I was curled up in the cold, gloomy corner sleeping. I could hear light mumbling of dwarves, I wanted to wake up but I chose to ignore it. "(Y/N). Cmon, wake up." A familiar voice whispered, I felt a hand on my shoulder, gently shaking me. I mumbled back and swatted the hand away, whatever this was for I didn't want to wake up for this.

I heard jingles of keys and a cell door open. "(Y/N)." A different voice spoke. I could recognise that voice anywhere. "Father!" I stood up and ran over to the hobbit. I threw my arms around him. "You found us! Thorin was right!" He pulled away. "Thorin? What did Thorin say?" "Don't worry about it. Come on let's get out of here before the elves come back." Bilbo ran off to free the other dwarves. I turned back to Kili. "Cmon, let's go." I ran back to him, grabbed his arm and pulled him out the cell.

"This way, all of you." Bilbo led us down the stairs. "Down?" Bofur whispered "We need to get out, not go further in!" "Would you all just trust me, please." We all followed right behind Bilbo. He better have a plan or else we are stuck here forever.

We all tiptoed into some sort of basement/ pantry. Two elves were asleep and had slumped onto the table. "Come on." "I don't believe it. We are in the cellars!" Kili whispered loudly in disbelief. "I know what i'm doing." He didn't mean to snap at the company of dwarves that didn't believe in him. I do, he's a very clever hobbit.

I walked past Bilbo after Bofur "I do hope you know what your doing." He put a hand on my shoulder "Trust me." There was a line of barrels, some were on top of each other. "Everyone, climb into the barrels quickly." All of the dwarves got into a barrel each as strange as it was. Accept, there was a problem. "Father." "Yep." "We are numbered 15. There are only 13 barrels." He looked at the thirteen barrels which each had a dwarf in them.

"Ah." He smacked his lips shut and twisted his lip. "(Y/N)," Kili whispered from my feet "You can hop in here with me." "But what about Bilbo?" I gestured my hands to Bilbo. "No i'll be fine you are my main concern. Get in," he ushered me to the barrel "I'll be fine." I was hesitant but I got in. "Fine." I was surprised that I managed to fit into the barrel with Kili but it was still a tight fit as our bodies pressed up against each other. "Great. Now, hold your breath." "Hold my breath?"

Bilbo walked off out of view and pulled a large lever. The floor tilted upwards and the barrels began to roll down into the floor which no longer there. We all screamed when our barrels fell down into a cave with a lake at the bottom. My screaming was cut off when I was submerged in water. I held onto the barrel so I wouldn't fly out. Kili was squished behind me doing the same.

We came back up to the surface, gasping for the air we desperately needed before we were thrown into a lake. Bilbo fell into the water not long after us with no barrel, he flapped about before coming up with wide eyes. "Well done, Master Baggins." Thorin praised Bilbo whilst he used his arms to paddle himself away and out the cave.

"Hold on!" I gripped onto the barrel when we fell down a waterfall and once again into the water. Our barrels was thrown around by the currents, the oxygen stored in our lungs was quickly running out. We all one by one bounced up over the crashing waves at the bottom of the short waterfall.

We were quickly flowing down the strong current in the lake. My hopes were finally up when the gate was up ahead in view, we're so close. However, I heard a horn blowing which must mean only one thing. "Oh no. The gate!" I called out to the company.

A guard elf ran up some steps and pulled a lever. The gate under the bridge began to close. "No!" Thorin tried to get to the gate before it closed but he was just a few seconds too late. We were all under the bridge bashing into each other. When we knocked into Dori's barrel I lost my balance and was thrown into Kili's chest. He grunted. "Sorry!"

I got back up and he held me in place. I shot my head around when a heard an arrow and a groan. An arrow had been shot through an elven guard, he fell onto the concrete bridge under him. From over the bridge on Orc jumped over and growled. Oh no.

Large groups of Orcs jumped over the bridge and fought the dwarves. Elves and Orcs fell into the water. Whenever a wave hit us I held on tightly. Nori was fighting an Orc that had made his way under the bridge. I watched in horror when Kili was eyeing the lever on the bridge. "Kili. Kili, if your about to do what I think your about to do don't do it." He didn't listen.

I called out for him when he jumped out the barrel and onto the sides, dodging an Orcs attack. Dwalin threw him a sword which he used to defend himself. The elves had taken away our main weapons from before but I was able to sneak a dagger past the she-elf in sheath hidden in my inner thigh. I was able to pull it out just in time to swing at the Orc coming up from beneath the water.

I kept my eye on Kili who was fighting and slowly making his way to the lever. The area was finally clear for him. He ran towards the lever but time had felt like it stopped as my heart stopped when an arrow pierced deep into his thigh.

"Kili!" Fili and I both screamed at the same time. Kili stifled a groaned and let out an awful cry when his legs buckled and he was on the floor clutching his thigh. I watched in horror and clutched the barrel with my trembling hand. On orc was coming up behind him until it was shot by an arrow.

"Oh you've got to be joking."

I watched when the she-elf from before ran down the stairs staring at Kili. She continued to shoot and kill any Orcs in her path, her skills were incredible and they were absolutely nothing compared to mine. I was about to jump out of my barre to try and get to Kili until Legolas emerged from the bushes with his army and began killing the Orcs.

Whilst everyone was occupied Kili managed to pull himself up and pull the lever with all his body weight. The gate opened and Kili once again fell to the floor. I would have jumped out and helped him is our barrel wasn't being pulled by the current. Just before I went under the bridge I pressed myself up against the barrel.

"Kili! Please, you have to jump in!" With every bit of him he managed to get up and jump into the barrel. He was panting and groaning from the pain. "Kili!" I grabbed his face "Kili what were you thinking!" "I got us out of there didn't I?"

I gasped when we fell down another small waterfall. We went under once again. When we came back up we were gasping for air and our barrel was half full with water. I starred down at Kili's leg with wide eyes and a parted mouth which a gasp escaped from. The arrow had snapped and the arrowhead is still buried deep in his leg. We were standing in a pool of blood and water, Kili had gone pale.

Orcs were not far behind us, I could see them shooting arrows and running after us. I felt helpless watching Kili panting in excruciating pain and I had nothing to help him. We were tossing and turning. Gasping for air and clutching onto our barrels. I looked behind me to see that Legolas and the she-elf were running after us. I forget we are still their prisoners. We were still being thrown around the river by the current and Orcs were on our tails. We fought off any Orcs that threw themselves at us...literally.

We all watched when Bomburs barrel had somehow made it onto land and is now rolling down the hill. He's even managed to take down a few Orcs all whilst sitting in the barrel. He eventually made it back into the water. I do wonder about that dwarf sometimes.

But this was no time to wonder, the elves were still after us. Legolas even jumped into the river and used the dwarves heads as stepping stones, Dwalin looked as if he could snap Legolas' leg as his boot buried into his head.

I watched his bow skills with amazement. He was able to kill three orcs with one arrow, and at the right moment he was able to quickly switch to his dagger and use it perfectly. Now i'm no fighting expert but he is amazing, it all seemed so easy to him like it was his second nature.

However he stopped when we were slowly getting out of vision. Then, we were gone. We had finally made it out of Mirkwood and away from the Orcs. We had lost the current but we were safe. Bofur emerged from his barrel "I think we've outrun the Orcs." "Not for long. We've lost the current." Thorin began paddling towards land. "Make for the shore."

I helped Kili paddle ourselves to the rocks. Once we were close enough I helped his swim the final distance. His leg was really messed up. And I have no idea what we are going to do about it.

Our boots squelched and our clothes were soaked. My hair had fallen out of its braid and onto my face with effort I managed to pull out the hair band. Kili groaned and fell onto the ground. "Oh Kili." I bent down to next to him. I handed him a cloth which he put on his wound. He hissed when the fabric met his flesh. I looked at him with worry. He paused. "I'm fine. It's nothing."

"Right, because your looking your very best right now. Of course your not okay," I looked at his leg "It'll need binding." Fili crouched down next to us and checked up on his brother. "On your feet." Thorin was up and walking. "Kilis wounded," Fili stated "His leg needs binding."

"There's an Orc pack on our tail. We keep moving." I grabbed Kili's head and placed a kiss on his dripping hair. "Where?" Balins hair has fallen onto his forehead. "The lonely mountain. We're so close." Bilbo was shivering. "A lake lies between us and that mountain. We have no way to cross it." Balin said.Bilbo and Balin began to have their own conversation.

Whilst everyone was focused on Balin and Bilbo I saw something come up from behind the rocks. Or someone. A tall man in a dirty brown coat held his loaded bow. His hair was wavy and it had a few grey strands here and there at the roots. He had a quiver on his back and dark brown boots.

He silently pulled back his bowstring, he aimed at Ori. Everyone's heard the creaking of his bowstring and spun around. Just before he let go of the bowstring I grabbed a rock and threw it at him. I didn't do anything, as I expected, but anger him. He aimed his bow at me in-between the eyes. "Do it again and your dead." I stood there keeping eye contact with him watching his every move, trying to predict his next.

"Excuse me," Balin stepped forward with his hands us "Do not harm the young lady. If you hurt her you have a company of dwarves up against you." The man lowered his bow, I sighed of relief. "Your from lake town if I'm not mistaken?" Balin said. He brought his bow back up aiming at Balin, confirming that he was in-fact from this Lake Town. "That bard," Balin pointed to it "It wouldn't be available for hire by any chance?"

——————-

"What makes you think I would help you?" We followed the man over to his barge whilst he rolled our abandoned barrels onto the boat. "Those boots have seen better days." Balin was probably the best person for dealing with other kins, more respect, more patient that the dwarves I have met. "As has that coat." I tuned into the conversation. The man gave me a side glance with a raised eyebrow, not in a rude way but in a most questionable manner. As if to ask what I am doing with a company of dwarves.

"Uh, no doubt you have some hungry mouths to feed back at home." Balin assumed. The man seemed to pay little attention to Balin so I stepped in. "Do you have any children..." I waited for his name. "Bard." "Bard." I repeated. "I have two daughters and one boy." "And your wife must be a lucky women. She must be stunning." He stood up and faced away from us. "Aye. She was."

"Oh, i'm sorry." I went red by my rudeness. Dwalin and Thorin were mumbling to each other at the back of the crowd and Bard noticed. "What's your hurry," He called them out "I would like to know who you are and what your doing in these lands." Bard stepped of the barge and faced Balin. "We are simple merchants from the Blue mountains, journeying to see our kin in the Iron Hills." Balin lied through his teeth whilst bowing his head. "Simple merchants you say?"

He turned to me and my father who were standing up against the rock wall behind us. "You two, you're not dwarves like your company. What business do you have with these dwarves?" Bilbo and I looked at each other, neither of us able to think of a quick enough lie.

"The young hobbit is with me," Kili called from the back of the crowd where he had taken a seat for his injured leg "Her name is (Y/N), and the hobbit beside her is her father. Started out as a journey to our homeland but got caught in a bit of an obstacle." That worked. Balin agreed with the nodding of his head which Bilbo and I copied. It surprised me how well these dwarves are able to lie.

Thorin decided to steer away from the conversation of lies and to a more beneficial one."We need food, supplies, weapons," Thorin finally spoke "Will you help us?" "Please," I chimed in "We would really appreciate it and we will pay you a good price." The mention of money perked him up. We all jumped onto the barge and sailed away. That mountain is just within our reach.
