It was dawn and the company had met at the wall. We were all dreading this moment, this could be the day someone declares war and we be killed. We all had our weapons. I had my sword and my daggers, Bofur, Bombur and Gloin were holding spears with these funny hats on. I stood next to Kili who was standing beside Thorin.
The army of elves had made their way to the mountain. Before it looked like there only a couple hundreds but I was wrong, there are thousands of elves ready for battle. The people of Lake-Town have followed the elves, they had found decent weapons but some of their shields and other weapons were made up of objects they must have found in Dale. Every single one of them was armed to kill.
Bard and Thranduil were making their way through the elves. Bard was riding the same white stallion as yesterday and Thranduil was riding an elk, it snorted as it came to a hault in front of us when Thorin shot an arrow at its hooves. "I will put the next one between your eyes." Thorin challenged whilst pulling his bowstring back.
All of the dwarves shouted and cheered to show support for their king. Thraunduil held his glance on Thorin with a spine-chilling smile. As if on cue all of the elves, in sync with each other, loaded their bows and aimed it right at us. Everyone but Thorin was quick to exclaim and duck behind the wall, which I must admit included me. These elves were intimidating and everyone knew that, even Thorin. Thranduil held his hand up, signalling to his army to lower their weapons, they followed his order in a matter of seconds.
A gentle gust of wind make my hairs stand. "We have come to tell you payment of your debt has been offered, and accepted." Payment? "What payment? I gave you nothing!" Thorin yelled "You have nothing!" Bard reached into his coat and pulled at something that shocked us all. The Arkenstone. But how? But I thought-
I shot my head to Bilbo who was looking as guilty as ever. He must had made a deal or some trade with Thranduil and Bard. If Thorin finds out...he will literally kill him. Everyone was trying to process how he has the Kings Jewel, I was doing the same. The jewel twinkled and and glowed many different colours it's beauty contrasted the pain it gives.
"We have this." Bard held up the jewel, showing it to Thorin which made him furious. I was standing there trying to process my thoughts until I could see Kili next to me frown and become angry. "They have the Arkenstone. Thieves! How came you by the heirloom of our house!" Kili shouted "That stone belongs to the king!" I swung my head back to him, frightened of his burst of anger "Kili." I whispered but his eyes remained set forward.
"The king may have it," Bard tossed the stone around in his hands "with our goodwill. But first, he must honor his word." Thorin shook his head in disbelief. "They are taking us for fools. This is a ruse. A filthy lie," he hissed "The Arkenstone is in this mountain! It's a trick-" "It's no trick." Oh no. I turned to see Bilbo standing there, he knew he was going to regret what he is about to say. "The stone is real. I gave it too them." Thorin's eyes became dark as he slowly turned to Bilbo. My heart was pounding, concerned for the safety of my father. "You?"
"I took it as my 14th share," Bilbo said calmly. "You would steal from me?" I don't know what it was but there was something about Thorin that scared me to my core. "Steal from you? No. I may be a burglar but I like to think I'm an honest one. I am willing to let it stand against my claim."
"Against your claim?" Thorin voice sound scarier than before, I slowly stepped forward worried Thorin should sense my fear. "Your claim?" Thorin said in disgust. "You have no claim on me," he slammed his sword onto the floor which bounced with a loud clang. "You miserable rat!"
I flinched at Thorin yelling at Bilbo, somehow Bilbo has managed to stay calm and not freak out. I don't think ive said this yet but I must say, Bilbo has come a long way and that makes me proud to be his daughter. "I was going to give it to you. Many times I wanted to, but..." I admired Bilbo as he held his feet firm on the ground. "But what thief?" Thorin growled. Bilbo inches closer to Thorin. "You are changed, Thorin. The Dwarf I met in Bag End would never have gone back on his word. Would never have doubted the loyalty of his kin!" Bilbo yelled.
"Do not speak to me of loyalty. Throw him over the rampart!" I gasped and my heart skipped a beat. But no one moved, it somehow got even more silent than before. Thorin spun around, furious, but no one was following his order. "Did you not hear me!" Thorin grabbed Fili's arm. Kili and I stepped forward to help Fili but he was able to shake Thorin off. I don't like where this is going. "I will do it myself!" Thorin stormed over to Bilbo and grabbed him by his tunic. He yanked him over to the edge.
"Thorin stop it!" I yelled, anger boiling in me. He continued to yank Bilbo by his coat, Bilbos eyes widened in fear as he got closer to the edge. I watched when Thorin held Bilbo over the drop of the wall and pressed a firm arm over his chest. Everyone tried to shove Thorin off of him but he was too strong. I was so blinded by rage that I didn't meant to shove everyone out of my way until I got to Thorin and braced myself for what I was about to do.
"THORIN!" I burst out. I clenched my fist and swung it hard and punched Thorin hard in the face which sent him stumbling, clutching his face. Everyone gasped, including myself and it went dead silent. Bilbo's knees buckled and fell to the floor, Bofur helped him up and get over the wall whilst Thorin looked as if he was about to kill me.
"But (Y/N)-" Bilbo was very hesitant to go over the wall and leave me but Bofur handed him the rope and ushered him down "Go, she'll be okay. We've got her." He placed a hand on his upper back before Bilbo used a rope to climb down the wall to down below where he ran beside Gandalf as he starred up in horror.
"You." With flaming eyes Thorin strode over to me and grabbed me by the collar of my tunic. Everything moved so quickly that I didn't have to react before he lifted me into the air and pressed me up against the stone wall. The whole company ran forward and tried to rip Thorin off me but he was not standing down, he only held onto me right. I breathed heavily and inched away from him. My palms were sweaty and my heart was pounding in my chest...I was terrified.
"I knew you were trouble from the start! Your lucky if I ever let Kili near you ever again! I DO NOT WANT MY NEPHEW FOOLING AROUND WITH A SHIRE RAT!! " He screamed and spat in my face. My lungs tightened and everyone was silent. What did he say? My stomach dropped at the words "Shire rat". And suddenly it all becomes clear.
Thorin must have felt Kilis fury behind him because he realised what he said and released his grip on me, dropped me onto the floor looking at his hands. I curled up on the floor and tears formed in my eyes. Kili dove down to me and held me in his arms, slightly rocking me back and forth.
My breaths were quick and short as I tried to hold back the tears that welled in my eyes. Shire rat. Two words have never been more of a punch to the stomach. "Shhh, it's okay." He whispered. I clutched his arm and swallowed as I looked at Thorin who was looking at the hands that held down Bilbo and I, I could see the regret in his eyes and i'm glad he's finally coming to realize. Kili helped me stand up, we made sure to stand far from Thorin as he turned to Bard below.
"Are we resolved?" Bard yelled, clearly trying to move on from the present situation. "The return of the Arkenstone for what was promised?" Bard projected his voice. "Give us your answer." Here we go. The moment we have all been waiting for. "Will you have peace...or war?" A raven flew to the mountain and next to Thorin. He smirked. The suspension was killing me. What Thorin decides will decide our fate. "I will have war."
Our attention was brought the hill where we heard marching in the distance. A huge army of dwarves marched forward. They had metal armour and carried spears and swords. The army was led by a dwarf who had red hair, big jackets, a robe and was riding a oddly large pig/boar.
"Who is that?" I said to Kili, my voice still a bit shaky. "Ironfoot," the army marched closer to us, the dwarves around us cheered "He is Dain, Lord of the Iron Hills. Thorin's cousin." The elves, people of Lake-Town and Ironfoot all marched towards each other and met in the middle "Is he like Thorin?" I dreaded to ask. Kili sighed "I've always found Thorin the more reasonable out of the two." Great.
"Good Morning." Dain said in a heavy Scottish accent, stronger than Dwalin or Gloins "How are we all? I have a wee proposition if you wouldn't mind giving me a few moments of your time. Would ya consider... just sodding off!" He yelled over the different armies.
"Oh come now, Lord Dain." Gandalf! I'd never been more happy to see him in all my life, if anyone can persuade a stubborn dwarf it's him. Gandalf the grey," Dain was shocked by the wizards sudden appearance. "Tell this rabble to leave, or i'll water the ground in their blood!" Even though Dain was on our side I was still anxious. I gulped and clutched Kili's arm tighter. "There is no need for war between Dwarves, Men and Elves. A legion of Orcs march on the mountain."
What? Is what Gandalf claims true? "Stand your army down." Gandalf said. "I will not stand down before any Elf," Dain looked at the Elves of Mirkwood "Not least this faithless Woodland sprite. He wishes nothing but ill upon my people. If he chooses to stand between me and my kin, I'll split his pretty head open! Still if he's still smirking then."
The company cheered. "He's clearly mad, like his cousin." Thranduil said from his elk. "Ya hear that, lads? We're on!" I sucked in a breath and looked at Kili. He will still looking ahead, he sighed. Clearly this is not what he wanted, but part of him expected this right from the beginning."Let's give these bastards a good hammering!"
Dain positioned his army up until the ground suddenly began to shake. I held onto the wall and tried to keep my balance, it was like a mini earthquake, like the one when the dragon woke but more intense. We looked up to a mountain in front of us, rumbling was heard and was approaching us quickly. Everyone turned to the noise scared, everyone unknown to what may be under the ground.
"Were-worms." Oin mumbled. Were-worms? A giant worm like thing bursted out the ground. It had claws and thousands of blades for teeth. I was horrified by the creature ahead. It was able to crush a larger boulder stuck in its jaw. Another one bursted our the ground next to it. Then another. Another. And another until there were 4 wriggling around still in the ground. They all went back into the ground leaving a deep hole in the mountain.
"Come forth my armies!" Someone said in Orcish. Azog. They've found us. I looked over to Ravenhill, not far from the lonely mountain. Azog stood there with two other orcs by his side. He was is armour and had a new blade in his arm. A loud horn blew and something (one of their creations that I am unknown to) lifted its wings and signalled something...or someone.
Suddenly, out of those holes in the mountain thousands of Orcs came flowing out. "The hordes of hell are upon us! To battle! To battle, sons of Durin!" Dain led his army to war. I backed away from the wall shaking my head. I can't do this anymore.
"(Y/N)?" Kili turned around concerned over the rumble sounds of the start of war. "No. I cant. I cant do this." My breathing picked up and I was still shaking my head. "Cant do what?" Kili stepped forward, luckily the company was too busy watching the fighting to notice me. "This! I can't go to war, Kili." My voice cracked when I said his name. "Yes you ca-"
"No!" I snapped, fear was quickly taking over me "I am a hobbit! I am used to sitting by the fireplace, reading my books and living my quiet life, not armed for battle and watching hundreds of innocent people being slaughtered!" I looked over Kilis shoulder, over the wall and could already see dwarves being killed.
I tried to push Kili away but he firmly wrapped his arms around me and rested his chin on my head. "Hey. You are ready for this, i've seen you fight. We have trained for countless hours together and you are more than capable of slaughtering those orcs. Look, no one wants to have to go through this but we are here at the lonley mountain, we have traveled so far for this, we cannot give up now. We have to forget our fears and get out there. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
I was almost ashamed of myself when a tear fell down my cheek. I don't know why I cry so much, i'm not normally an emotional person. I was terrified but Kili is right. I have come a long way since the Shire, it is way too late to turn back now. I pulled away and wiped the tear off my cheek. "Okay. I can do this." I shook my hands down b my my sides, convincing myself. "That's my girl." Kili smiled at me which made me feel at home.
"I'm going over the wall, who's coming with me?" Fili said, grabbing onto his sword. "Aye!" The dwarves yelled, I yelled the same time as everyone else. Im just gonna face my fear and go for it. I will try not the think of what may be ahead, i'm doing this for the company that I am apart of.
"Stand down." Thorin turned from the battle below us. "What?" Ori said in disbelief. "Are we do nothing?" Fili said. I would have spoken up but after what just happened I feel I should keep my distance. It's not the right time. "I said stand down!" Thorin yelled walking down the stairs leaving the chaos behind him.
I wanted to say something, to anyone at this point. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. Kili wrapped and arm around my shoulder and squeezed it, he was clearly disappointed as was the rest of the company. Do we stand down like Thorin said? Or do we disobey him and do what we believe is right?
—————— HEY GUYS! Thank you all so much for reading this story, this is my first story and so far I am really happy with it, which I also hope you are too.
During the scene where Thorin pins and shouted at (Y/N) we see a darker side of him. Even though this wasn't part of the movie (of course) I just thought it would add a bit of ☕️ tea ☕️. I apologise if you like Thorin but I thought it would just be a good scene to include to spice things up a bit, but so many questions have opened up 🤭
Does Thorin regret was he said?
Does Thorin apologise and fix his mistakes?
And what will happen next?
AHH! I'm so excited to write the next chapter and see more of Kili and (Y/N). Thank you all for making it this far and reading this, I have worked really hard for this. I also apologise ahead of time if chapters will take longer to come out. Since summer is over that means I am back in school which means I won't have as much time to write, but I will still try my hardest.
Anyways, i'll stop boring you and let you read the next chapter (if it's out yet). Enjoy!
BYEEE!
