It was pure chaos when the dwarfs discovered the pantry overflowing with goods, they had swarmed the dining room, quickly filling the expanded table with every bit of food we own. "Put that back." Bilbo began chasing round the dwarfs after they walked out of the pantry with new bowls of food. "Put that back," "Put that back." He repeated, thrusting a finger at them, but they brushed past him as if it weren't his house.
Bombur came out of the pantry with 3 large blocks of cheese. "Excuse me- A tad excessive, isn't it? Have you got a cheese knife?" Bilbo played with his dungarees, clearly in shock."Cheese knife? He eats it by the block." Another dwarf walked past carrying a large piece of meat. Why do we even have this much food?
Once they'd finally managed to strip all form of food from the pantry I took myself into it and took a swing of ale. Bilbo let's me have a drink of ale every now and then, I am of age after all. I'm practically an adult. "(Y/N)!" Bilbo was standing my the door shocked. I just shrugged. "Don't knock it till you try it." I shrugged swinging another gulp, and we're going to have to get through tonight whether we like it or not. It seems these dwarves aren't going to pick up and leave anytime tonight.
Bilbo stormed off, furious about the whole situation. I was gripping the shelf with one hand and the other holding my drink until someone had somehow crept up behind me. "Drinking ale, that's a bit strong for only 7 o'clock." Kili. "You are acting like you didn't just bring another whole barrel of Ale because you ran out." Another sip. "Touché." He smirked.
Just before I brought the mug up to my mouth it was snatched out of my hands. "Hey!" I exclaimed as it nearly spilled all over my face. "Your will be walking around upside down on your hands if you continue. How old even are you, (Y/N)?" I rolled my eyes "I'm nineteen, in human years" I told him with a look "How old are you, Kili?"
He barked out a laugh before leaning against the counter and taking a sip out of the mug I was just drinking from "You never ask a dwarf they're real age." I was about to laugh until my lip curled up when I realized what he said "So what, your like an old man?"
He snapped his head toward me and actually looked offended. "Old man?! Please. I am actually incredibly young for a dwarf, i'm by decades the youngest out all my company," He looked up at me over the mug as he brought it up to his mouth. "Can I get a number then, realistically how old are you?" He exhaled as he thought "Realistically, I am about twenty."
I was about to respond before one of the dwarfs called Kili for supper. With my drink in his hand he smirked at me before running off. I had given up trying to get my drink back so I just followed the laughter coming from the dining room.
My jaw dropped when I looked up to see Fili walking across the dining table handing out ale and the other dwarfs were stuffing their faces with food. Bilbo was pacing around the house with Gandalf following behind and I could hear him going on some sort of rant.
I slowly turned back to the table when suddenly the noise dropped to silence. They began all chugging their drinks at a concerning pace, some of them had let it fall down their beards but some had taken their time. I was stood at the head of the table completely shocked. One of the younger dwarfs stood up and did probably one of the loudest and longest belch I have ever heard. Ew.
I couldn't stand being in a room with dwarfs burping so I went out into the hallway to meet with Bilbo whining to Gandalf about the damage. "... and I'm not even going to tell you what they have done to the toilet. They've all but destroyed the plumbing. I just don't understand what they are doing in our house!" I didn't even want to ask.
Bilbo and I were facing Gandalf with our hands on our hips, trying to process any of this. Suddenly, nearly out of no where, the younger dwarf (Ori?) tiptoed over to Bilbo nearly startling him. "Excuse me, sorry to interrupt but what should I do with my plate?" He asked with the most politeness and manners I've heard all day.
I almost jumped as Fili came out from behind me. "Here you go Ori give it to me." Gandalf quickly jumped out the way as Fili threw the plate to Kili with a pipe in his hand, which he then threw to a dwarf by the sink. They continued to throw plates and bowls whilst Bilbo tried to stop them and at every piece of pottery they caught Kili flashed me a little smirk that made heat rise to my face in a blush.
"Excuse me! That's my mother's Westfarmimg pottery, it's over 100 years old!" Bilbo watched in horror as his pottery was being thrown from dwarf to dwarf, terrified anything would drop. From the dining room I could hear 4 dwarfs slicing knifes together as they tapped their feet to a certain rhythm. I was curious as the beat almost sounded like a song.
"Can you don't do that you'll blunt them!" Bilbo called. "Ooh, do you hear that, lads? He said we'll blunt the knifes." "What is happening?" I mumbled to myself. Then beside me Kili and then Fili began to sing. "Blunt the knives bend the forks." Kili sung with his deep voice. "Smash the bottles and burn the corks" Fili continued. I stood there shocked. I didn't know they could sing so well. The rest of the dwarfs began to tune in and ended out breaking into a song.
Plates, bowls and cups were flying across the room, from one dwarf to the next as they continued to sing their song. I almost burst out laughing at the look on Bilbo's face. Like he was in some nightmare, and I think he might me.
I was smiling and the joy that had suddenly filled the room until I was swiftly pulled into the dining room by someone. Before I could get a chance to look up and see who it was they were swinging me around and dancing with me, the only thing I could do was hold on and dance. It was truly exhilarating to be singing along with the dwarves as I danced my boots off, it was the most fun i've had in a long time. New people.
"Thats what Bilbo Baggins hates!" The song had finished and I had some how ended up standing on the table. Mine and the person who was holding me chests were rising and falling out of breath, my face red from exhaustion. I peered up to find the dark haired dwarf holding me in his arms, pressed against his chest. "Kili?!" He looked down to me and smirked. "The one and only."
I laughed, pushed myself away from his chest and jumped off the table with the help of Kili and Fili's hands which were held out for me as soon as they jumped off the table.. I giggled and stepped off the table and thanked the two gentle-dwarves as I soaked in the fun and adrenaline I just experienced.
I turned around to see all the plates and cutlery had been cleaned and put away. Everyone was laughing at Bilbo's priceless face until a loud and firm knock was heard on the door that wracked through the hole. Everyone's laughing died and a look of seriousness appeared on their faces. I looked up at Gandalf. "He is here."
Bilbo opened the door to a tall, dark haired dwarf. His hair and beard was the same style as Fili's but his hair was a dark brown, almost black. "Gandalf," he bowed his head " I lost my way, twice, I never would have found it if it weren't for that mark on the door." It was obvious that this dwarf held great power so I rushed forward to take his jacket out his hands and hang it up.
"Mark? There's no mark it was painted a week ago." Father looked distressed as he pushed past the dwarf to check the door. On the door was a mark, it was small but it glowed a bright blue. That must have been what Gandalf was doing earlier before he left. "There is, I put it there myself." Gandalf said with hands held in-front of him. I just simply patted my fathers shoulder and gave a sympathetic smile.
"Bilbo and (Y/N) Baggins," Gandalf started "Allow me to introduce the leader of our company: Thorin Oakenshield." Thorin stepped forward and I gulped at the power that radiated off of him. He looked at me and then Bilbo which he gave an curious expression.
"So," Thorin stepped a step closer to Bilbo and crossed his arms over his chest "This is the hobbit." He stated. "Y-Yes," Bilbo stuttered as Thorin circled him like a shark circling its meal "And this is my daughter (Y/N)." He gestured to me standing beside him. Thorin angled his head towards me. I nervously smiled and raised a hand in a wave "Hi."
He slightly narrowed his eyes at me "Goodevening." He said as he finished his circle around Bilbo. "It is." I mumbled to myself so quiet he didn't hear. "So," Thorin continued looking at Bilbo "Tell me, Mr Baggins, have you done much fighting?" "Pardon me?" Bilbo questioned the dwarf circling him once again. Boy Thorin sure knows how to intimidate you. "Axe or sword? What's your weapon of choice?"
"Well, I do have some skills in conkers, if you must know." Bilbo made a strange face as he played with his dungarees. I held back from face palming myself. Not what he meant Bilbo. "But I fail to see how that's relevant." Bilbo added as he looked up at Thorin.
"Thought as much," Thorin looked over his shoulder to his company "Looks more like a grocer than a burglar." They all laughed at his joke leaving Bilbo looking confused and embarrassed, I almost felt bad for him. I twisted my lip and looked down at my feet as Thorin walked through our house and into the dining room where he had just missed a grand feast.
I exhaled as Thorin wondered around, inspecting every painting he passed. "Well he seems intolerable." I whispered under my breath with my arms crossed over me. "He," Kili spoke from beside me "Is my Uncle." I froze and resisted the urge to widen my eyes, I mentally cringed at myself before turning to him with my apologetic smile "Yes," I thinned my lips "Well he does have a smashing beard." I playfully punched his forearm. "Don't worry," His cheek lifted with a small smile "He can be unbearable at times, but he deserves to."
I followed behind Kili back to the dining room. Bilbo sighed as he had found the dwarfs back in the dining room, but they had lit more candles and a map had been laid down. "I just wanted to have supper." Father turned to me. "Believe me, so did I." Our attention was brought to the dwarfs who had seemed to have started some confidential meeting.
"What do the dwarfs of the Iron Hill say? Does Dain join us?" Dwalin asked. As Thorin shared the disappointing news I slowly made my way around the dining table to Kili and Fili sitting in the corner and pulled up myself a stool. "So who is this Dain Thorin speaks of?" I whispered to Kili. "Dain Ironfoot, son of Náin, grandson of Grór. He was meant to stand by us during our mission to re-claim Erebor but as you hear he will not be joining us." He gestured with a disappointed expression.
"Re-claiming Erebor?" I asked. "Yes (Y/N)." Gandalf brought all the dwarves attention to us. "That's why we need a burglar." Ori snapped his fingers. "Yep, and a good one I recon." Bilbo fiddled with his dungarees. "Well are you?" A dwarf asked. "Am I what?" Everyone turned to Bilbo.
"He said he's an expert, he-hey!" The dwarfs celebrated as Bilbo stood there speechless. As the dwarfs celebrated Kili turned to me. "Will you come?" He looked up at me from his seat with big innocent, brown eyes. "Of course I will, I long for an adventure. That is if Father will even let me go." I sulked as I looked over Kili's head to look at Bilbo.
"Ah i'm sure he'll let you. Plus, we could really use someone like you. Small, fragile, no noise. The perfect burglar!" Fili poked his head into the conversation . "Well thank you, I guess the only thing I can do is ask him and see what he says." I tried to have hope but i'm about 99% sure I know what his answer will be. Yay.
