We had completed the first day of riding and night hung over the forest. "We sleep here for the night. Fili and Kili take the first night watch." Thorin instructed his two nephews. I used my bag as pillow and wrapped my cloak around me. I shivered from the cold night sky and the dwarves snoring kept me wide awake.

Coming to the decision that I wasn't going to sleep any time soon I grunted, stood up and brushed off the dirt that had collected on my clothes from dirt to moss. I was wearing my bronze tunic with a black cloak, equipped with leather hood that ran down my back to thighs, black slacks and my brown, worn down boots.

I tiptoed around Bombur and Bofur before I made it to Fili and Kili, who were by the fire. Fili was smocking his pipe, gazing off while Kili sharpened his dagger. "Can't sleep?" Kili whispered whilst moving up on the rock he was sat on. I sat down next to Kili on the rock with was so small our shoulders were touching. "It's just a lot quieter in the Shire." I admitted, missing the comforts of home.

"You'll get used to it," Kili was silent for a few beats "And I know it's the snoring keeping you up. They're my family, i've had to deal with it my whole life." I laughed quietly. "As if you don't snor." I nudged his shoulder with mine. "I do not!" He brought his hand to his heart, offended. "Alright then. I believe you." I looked back at the fire trying to hide my grin. "You don't do you?" "Nope." "Well then." He shrugged. My face grew hot, I didn't know if it was from the fire or because of Kili. I hope it was the fire. But whatever it was, I need to get the blushing under control.

At the corner of my eye I saw that Bilbo also couldn't get to sleep. He pulled an apple out of his pocket and fed it to one of the ponies. "Shh, here don't tell anyone." I heard him whispering to the pony. A loud, godawful screech was heard from far away and my mood shifted. "What was that?" Bilbo walked over to us by the fire, pointing to whatever was in the dark forest behind us.

"Orcs. There ought to be dozens of them out there." Fili was crouched in the corner smoking his pipe with his feet up. "They attack in the wee small hours, no noise...just lots of blood." My mouth slightly parted and I sucked in a breath at the horrors of the world. But I turned my head to the snickering from behind me, Fili was chuckling behind his pipe whilst Kili smirked at the ground.

"You think a night raid by Orcs is to be joked about?" Thorin stormed past us and looked off into the distance. "We didn't mean anything by it." I had to bite back a grin as Kili looked like a child who had been told off. "No. You know nothing of the world." Thorin said in distaste.

Balin had appeared almost out of nowhere "Don't take it personally lad, Thorin has the most reason to hate Orcs." I made the bold move rested my head on Kili's shoulder, which he didn't seem to mind at all, as Balin told us about Thorin's past and how Azog murdered King Thror. I sat there devastated as I couldn't even imagine how Thorin must be feeling. I looked over to Thorin, he was staring out into the distance with the moonlight beaming down on his face, listening to the story that all dwarves know well.

When Balin finished the story an awkward silence was held in the air. I tried to break the silence. "Well, I better get some sleep." I stood up and carefully made my way over to my sleeping corner trying my best not to tread on anyone's fingers as some laid spread out of the rock floor. "Goodnight lassie." Balin rested a hand on my shoulder as I passed him. "Goodnight." Fili said.

"Goodnight, (Y/N)." That voice stopped me in my tracks. I turned around to see Kili staring at me. "Yes. Goodnight, Kili." We both exchanged a smile until I turned around before anyone saw me blushing. I don't know why that stopped me in my tracks, but something about Kili made my stomach go crazy.

As I laid down and turned my back from the company of sleeping dwarves I wondered how I was having feelings for Kili so fast? And were these even feelings? I shook off the daunting questions and finally got some sleep after a very long day of walking and prepared for the next.

We had completed yet another day of riding and now the night was creeping up on us. Kili and I were last in the line so we were the last ones to get off our ponies. The two of us were laughing at something Kili had said until Gandalf stormed past us in a rage."Where are you going, Gandalf?" Bilbo called. "To seek company with someone with some sense." "And who would that be?" Bilbo asked again wanting answers as to why our wizard is storming off. "Myself! master Baggins" He snapped, angrily.

Once the wizard was out of sight I walked over to Bilbo. "What happened?" "I'm not sure? All I know is that Gandalf won't be joining us for a while." "Oh." Was all I said. "Yes. Well, i'm going to set up my stuff." We parted ways and went over to our ponies to grab our belongings and bring them to wherever we were setting up camp.

We had made camp in the forest, a fire was lit and food was being cooked. "Fili, Kili and (Y/N), you watch the ponies," Thorin instructed "Food will be sent once it's done." Fili, Kili and I agreed and ran off to watch the ponies for the night whilst the others set up camp for the evening.

——————

"(Y/N)? Kili?" Fili quietly called from behind us with his back turned. "Fili?" Fili looked almost guilty. "We may have a slight problem." I felt Kili standing right behind me. Just before Fili was about to tell us Bilbo came out of the trees with three bowls of food.

"Oh, hello Father." I said with my hands on my hips. "Hello, (Y/N)." Kili and I took the bowls out of Bilbo's hands and turned back to Fili. "Sorry Fili, you were saying something?" "Oh yes." He paused to gulp "We started with 16 horses..." "Yes?" Kili signaled with his hand for him to carry on. "Now we only have 14."

Me, Kili and Bilbo stood there in silence. "Ah." I placed the bowl down on a log next to me. "Yes." "Well," Bilbo was backing away behind us "I shall leave you too it, good luck-" "Actually as our burglar, we thought you could take a look." Fili angled his head as one leg was propped on a rock, inspecting a fallen tree. I was standing between Fili and Bilbo until I had noticed Kili was gone.

"Kili?" I whispered. "Pssst, (Y/N). Over here!" Kill whispered from a bush, I slightly crouched down to see him up ahead hiding behind a log where I could see movement up ahead that wasn't him. It was something huge. I gulped as the trees moved and I could hear shuffling of large feet.

Whilst Fili and Bilbo were practically arguing... "Just have a look!" Fili begged. "I don't understand why I have to do it!" Bilbo threw his hands in the air. "Because. your. the. burglar. of. the. company." Fili pinched the bridge of his nose. As they continued to bicker with each other I crept away and over to Kili.

"Kili." I crouched down next to him. "Look." I looked up to see a huge troll holding two horses by their legs. I gasped but Kili brought his hand up to my mouth so we wouldn't be heard. "I'll go get Fili and Bilbo, (Y/N). Stay here and keep an eye out for any more trolls." He placed a hand on my shoulder before disappearing and leaving me all by myself. Great.

And with that I was alone. My heart was pounding as I spotted two more trolls by a fire. Should I investigate? But I was told to stay here? I ignored the questions in my head and crept closer to try and see the camp they've created, cautious of any weak twigs beneath my boots. However, I almost blew my cover and screamed as Kili laid a hand on my back. "It's me."

"Look," I pointed to the trolls "The horses are trapped in those fences." Myrtle and Minty were caged in by a thick rope and a fence taller than them, so they couldn't jump over themselves. "Yes," Bilbo appeared from my left "We should do something about it." "Yes. You should." Kili had stood up and pushed Bilbo forward, forcing him to go. This is an awful plan.

——————

I was close to running out every time Bilbo was close to being caught. "Oh God, I can't watch this anymore." I brought my hands to my eyes. "All of you stay here, i'll go get the others." Fili patted our backs and ran off to go and get the others. This was serious, they've got our ponies and possible Bilbo if he is seen.

My heart was in my throat. Every time one of the trolls turned their heads my heart skipped a beat. I felt useless watching Bilbo. He was behind one of the trolls, trying to get its knife which was dangling in the belt around its waist. He was struggling, not to be seen, the knife being much larger than him. "I have to do something." I stood up but Kili pulled me back down by my waist.

"Are you crazy? You will be caught and they will kill you." He said with worry. "And you thought it would be a good idea to send my father out there?" I snapped. Kili looked back at Bilbo and I noted that he gulped which told me he was now only realizing that this may have been a bad idea. I sighed and slumped back down. I held onto a branch ready to get up and run out any moment now. All I could do was watch and trust Bilbo to get that knife without being seen.

——————

I gasped loud when one of the trolls had caught Bilbo and held him to the height of his mouth. "Father!" I yelled. "No, (Y/N)!" Kili tried to stop me but I ran out, I was seen. "Let go of him!" I roared at the troll squeezing Bilbo's waist. I clenched my fists, anger and fear was boiling. "Well, look what we have here." Said one of the larger and hideous trolls, his voice was deep and sounded like he needed to cough up something.

I was stood in the middle of the three trolls, my knees were buckling from fear. They towered over me. I screamed as a large, meaty hand grabbed me and pulled me up. "Let go of me!" I screamed. I tried to wriggle myself out of his grip but he squeezed me harder. Where is Kili when I need him?

"Kili?!" I screamed hoping he could hear me."Another Burgularahobbit!" One of them squealed with excitement. "Don't bother cookin' them, I love a bit of raw hobbit." I whimpered as the trolls squeezed me even harder. Suddenly, Kili came running out of the bushes and sliced the trolls knee with his signature sword. The troll screeched in pain.

"Drop them!" He shouted with curled fist hung on his sides "You what?" The troll holding me gurgled. "I said," he spun his sword with a smirk creeping up on his face "Drop them."

As a cue all of the dwarfs ran out and began fighting. The dwarf holding Bilbo dropped him and the one holding me threw me onto Kili, luckily Kili had dropped his sword and his arms were open wide to catch me. I screamed as I fell onto Kili's chest, with a thump. "Are you okay?" He looked up to me and made sure I was okay. "Yes i'm fine. Thank you." Kili pulled me up and shielded me as he and the other dwarfs fought.

I felt absolutely useless without a weapons thought I don't see how much more use I would be with no experience. Whist the trolls were occupied, Bilbo had crept away and tried to untie the ropes around the ponies so I sprinted over to assist him. "Help me with this knot." Bilbo whispered over the fighting. "The ropes too thick," I groaned "Maybe if we-"

I was cut short when Bilbo and I had been caught out of the corner of the trolls eye. One clenched me in his fist and swung me around in the air. "Get you're meaty fists off me!" I yelled as we were being lifted into the air. "Finally, we got our food back." The largest one burped. They held me and Bilbo up, they held us by our arms and legs and they pulled hard. I moaned in pain as they pulled harder. "Drop your weapons, or we rip them in half."

Kili looked like he was about to run forward but Thorin held him back and placed his sword in the mud. All the rest of them followed him and threw their weapons onto the floor. Kili threw his in anger and his sword with a clang. My heart was pounding and my limbs were close to being dislocated from my body. "Ow." I whimpered holding back tears.

"Right, bag 'em up." And with that the dwarfs, including Bilbo and I, were thrown into bags and pilled ontop of each other. The trolls grabbed a handle full of us and tied them to a stick above the fire, fortunately I wasn't part of that bundle. The dwarfs got more scared after every turn the trolls did with the stick as they were closer to being cooked alive.

"Hurry this up, I don't want to be here when the sun comes up and be turned to stone." The middle troll complained. I felt Bilbo, next to me, try to stand up. What is he doing? "Um sorry, hate to interrupt but you are going about this completely wrong." Bilbo crept into their conversation.

"What do you mean?" The troll on the far left stood up and stomped over toward Bilbo. "Um well they stink for starters. No amount of herbs will cover up this lot." The dwarves murmured to each other, offended that they got called smelly. "Doesn't bother me, 'obbit." "And! And the secret to cooking dwarfs is to...to skin them first!" He fake smiled to try and said with the rank trolls.

Noise erupted at Bilbos advice. Bilbo rolled his eyes with irritation. "Nothing like a bit of raw dwarf." The smallest troll said, his eyes looking in two different directions. He picked up Bombur and held his high above his mouth. "Nice and crunchy." He licked his cracked lips to reveal his hideous teeth.

He was just about to drop him into his mouth until Bilbo jumped in just in time. "You don't want to eat that one! He's got worms...in his...tubes." The troll squealed threw Bombur away in revolt. "In fact, they all have! It's a nasty business I wouldn't get involved in it, I really wouldn't." All of the dwarfs began yelling at Bilbo and his lies.

"I haven't got parasites!" Kili yelled from above me. "We don't have parasites!" the others yelled."Kili!" I hissed which made him stop immediately. I finally caught onto to what Bilbo was doing. He was creating a distraction. Smart hobbit. Thorin had also caught on to what Bilbo was doing so he kicked someone hard in the back which brought them all to realisation. "Oh i've got massive worms!" "I've got parasites as big as my arm! I've got the biggest parasites!" Kili yelled. "Huge ones, you don't want to eat me!" All the dwarfs were yelling at the trolls.

"And what do you propose we do then? Let them all go?" The troll in the middle bent his knees and leaned in to Bilbo. I could smell him from here and he reeked of what smelt like dead animals and troll waste. I had to hold back from gagging. "Well." Bilbo shrugged. They've caught on. "Don't you think I don't know what your up to ferret..." He poked Bilbo with his huge finger. "Ferret!" Bilbo was clearly offended. "...he's taking us for fools, we'll i'm not falling for it."

Just before the troll was about to take a swing a Bilbo I spotted Gandalf ontop of a rock. "Who is he?" The trolls began to talk amongst them. "No idea." "Can we eat him too?" The smallest smiled showing his grotesque teeth. With that Gandalf planted his stick into a massive boulder behind the trio of trolls. "Let the dawn take you all!" As the stone broke, a bright light beamed onto us, blinding the company as well as the trolls.

The trolls screamed and roared as they tried moving but their movement became gradually stiffer until they turned to stone. Literally. Their moves were stuck midway into the air and their mouths half open from screaming, but now they're out stone cold.

We all cheered when we were saved by our wizard and being saved from becoming troll food. All of the dwarfs were helping each other get out of their sacks, Kili helped me get out of mine. "Here." I balanced myself using Kili's arm as I stepped out of my sack. "Once again Kili, thank you. You saved my life." "Well I wasn't going to watch you be eaten. I would never forgive myself." We smiled at each other and I pulled him in for a hug. I wrapped my arms around his neck and his hands were wrapped around my waist.

"What was that for?" Kili smiled. "Just... just to say thank you." We walked past the company side by side until I turned to him and grinned "So, parasites the size of your arm?" "Well I didn't want to get eaten by trolls, I'm too pretty to be eaten by trolls." I playfully shoved him and chuckled "Sure, Kili."

Once the company were finally free from the sacks we walked out the camp and found the trolls cabe which we climbed into, not far from the stone trolls. "Aw what is that stench?" Nori pinched his nose. The others coughed and gagged at the horrible smell of troll, feet and sick. An indescribable smell. We climbed deeper into of the cave to see many riches. I separated from Kili as I bent down to grab something shiny I had seen by feet beneath coins and necklaces.

From underneath some coins I pulled out a small sword. Just my size. "What have you got there?" Kili gestured to my sword. I came back up to Kili and showed him my sword. The blade was sharp and the handle was a dark maroon colour. It had a engraved design of a rose on the blade. It was beautiful. "I think i'm going to keep this." I gently ran my hand along the blade. "It's a beautiful blade." He said running his hand down the razor sharp blade.

I look to my left to see Bofur putting a chest in a hole. "What are you doing?" Bilbo asked before me. "We are making a long term deposit!" Gloin cheered. The chest was filled with coins and all sorts of jewels. It was so overflowed i'm surprised they managed to close it.

I walked over to Bilbo to see, next to Gandalf, holding a sword. "I like your sword." "Thank you, i probably can't even take a swing but i'll give it a go." He played with the sword in his hands. "Alright, Father. Just make sure you don't hurt yourself." Bilbo laughed at our little inside joke of me telling him to not get hurt, due to his clumsinesses. Once we all had finished looking through the troll cave we, one by one, we exited the cave into daylight.
