CHAPTER FOURTEEN Five Dollar Bill
"Mustang, this is Maverick requesting flyby." Pete requested.
"Negative, Ghost Rider. The pattern is full."
Pete started laughing his ass off.
"Excuse me. Something I should know about?" Merlin asked.
Pete quickly glanced over at the plane beside him that Kate was flying. She gave him a nod of approval as the three planes did a flyby.
They successfully landed their planes. Everyone on the carrier then started surrounding the area and making sure everything was okay. The pilots and RIOs climbed out of their cockpits. They had put their sunglasses on, and Pete started waving his helmet.
Kate groaned as she stepped foot on the floor. People started following her, and congratulating her on the attacks as she made her way over to find Pete through the crowd. Wolfman went up to her, shaking her hand.
"He's over there." He nodded over to where Pete was.
"Thanks, man." She thanked, walking over, seeing Ice looking at Pete.
"You! You are still dangerous, just like her." Ice told Pete with a straight face, then he cracked a smile. "You can be my wingman anytime."
"Bullshit. You can be mine." Pete responded, hugging Ice. After he let go, Slider picked him up, causing Kate to laugh.
When Pete got set down, he smiled as he looked at Kate. He took a step closer to her.
"What are you doing, Mitchell?" She wondered, already knowing the answer.
He shrugged. He looked around quickly before cupping the side of her face and kissing her. They both laughed when they broke apart when everyone started cheering them on. "You do realise they're never gonna let us live this down, right?" Kate asked.
"I did in fact know that." He whispered, hesitantly pulling away.
"Waitโ so... you two..." Wolfman started leading on. "I knew it! Slider, come on. I know you brought it."
Slider groaned, handing Wolfman five bucks. Pete and Kate looked at the five dollar bill with confusion. "Whatโ what is that?" Pete asked.
"Did you bet on us?" Kate questioned.
"Yeah. I knew it!" Wolfman exclaimed, fist bumping the air.
Kate shook her head, walking alongside Pete as they walked inside.
Pete had gone to the changing room, as well as Kate before they went back.
โ
Kate knocked on the door of the house. "Hey. Is he here?"
"Come on in, Kate."
Kate walked into the house, she looked around before she saw Viper.
"Hey, kid." He greeted, hugging her.
"Pete's gonna be an instructor at TOPGUN." Kate informed.
"So, the rumour's true." Viper sighed.
"Yeah... I mean, maybe he'll do a really good job, teach a new generation of pilots on how to be reckless."
Viper looked at her and noticed the expression on her face and knew what was going on in her mind.
"You know, when I first asked you to keep an eye on Mitchell... I thought you would have bailed 'cause of how intense he was. I didn't think you would fall for each other." Viper told her.
Kate scoffed as they walked outside and sat on the front porch. "How'd you know?"
"Well, you defended him like crazy. And when you were being a sassy and sarcastic shit in the first briefing, he looked like he was gonna marry you on the spot."
Kate nodded in understanding. "Well, I just came over to show proof of existence. I told Pete I was gonna meet him at the bar."
"Don't drink too much." Viper advised.
Kate shook her head, scoffing and she patted his shoulder. She found her way to the bar, which didn't have many people there. Kate smiled as she saw the baseball cap on the bar counter that read: TOPGUN.
