Samantha drove home with a heavy heart. She felt lightheaded and her throat was dry. Confronting Leo about the news was something she was dreading. His car was parked outside, which meant he was home.

She pulled into the space next to it and turned off the car. Before stepping out, she prayed to help her face her husband. "I can do this.." She hopped out of the car and walked over to their front door. "I can't do this.." She unlocked the door and walked inside.

She saw her husband on the couch, completely focused on his phone. In her mind, she was debating on how to break the news to him. She had mixed feelings. She was anxious but happy at the same time.

She did imagine what it was like to have a little child running around calling her mom. The daydream looked appealing, but she knew that reality was going to be a lot harsher.

"Sam," Kaito noticed that she was walking slowly towards the couch after the front door opened. It was still early in the day, she had just come back from wherever after leaving while he was still asleep. "Where'd you run off to so early?"

Samantha gazed to her feet and furrowed her eyebrows together, and Kaito tilted his head at her reaction. He knew something was on her mind, but he didn't know how to comfort her. Lately, he'd been watching Japanese and Korean dramas to examine women's behavior.

The American shows lacked couples with loyalty. Often, everyone slept with everyone, which is definitely not an example he wanted to follow.

The men in the Korean and Japanese dramas acted too sappy for his liking, but it seemed that women enjoyed that kind of thing. It's been the only resource that's been helping him keep up the facade with Samantha.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, but I'm not sure if you'll be after I tell you." Samantha sat next to him. "Um, okay. Before I get started—"

"Just tell me." Kaito huffed. He didn't like when she took too long to get straight to the point. He felt he had already put enough work in earning her trust, so her lagging to get to the root of the issue pissed him off. He wasn't a man with a lot of patience.

Samantha sighed. "I'm pregnant."

Kaito opened his mouth but closed it immediately. Those were certainly not the words he was expecting to hear. He didn't even know how to react. "You're kidding." He blinked, secretly hoping she was screwing with his mind.

Samantha smiled at him and shook her head. "Surprise, surprise?" She waved her fingers and pressed a hand on her stomach. "I'm 8 weeks into my first trimester."

She couldn't be. It wasn't impossible, but he had made sure to be careful so this wouldn't happen. He didn't know what he was gonna do now. "That's.." He brushed his hair out of his face. What would the guys on the drama do? He racked his mind for ideas. "That's amazing." He tried hard to keep his voice level tone.

"It is?" Samantha swallowed hard. She wanted to confirm whether he was excited about the news.

"Of course it is. You're going to be an amazing mother." Kaito leaned forward and kissed the top of her head. He had to lie, there was nothing else he could do.

"Thank you." She wrapped her arms around him and pulled him close for a hug. "You're going to be a wonderful father. I love you."

"I love you too," Kaito mumbled back monotonously.

Kaito threw another empty glass beer bottle at the wall angrily before grabbing another full one. He was almost drunk. He was purposefully trying to get to that point. He already knew that Haruka was going to be majorly pissed once he found out that Samantha was pregnant.

That wasn't a part of the plan at all. And it wasn't like he could tell her to abort it. He put so much effort into making her trust him, and if anything wrong were to happen, it could push him back to square one.

He took a swig of the beer and wiped his mouth. Then he burped and slumped back into his seat. The door chime opened and Kaito spared no glance. He knew it was Haruka and Wilson that walked in.

"You're drinking?" Wilson smirked. "So early? What happened with Samantha this time? Did you get into another argument?" He teased, knowing that anytime Kaito drank early in the day was because he was stressed because of her.

"Are you drunk?" Haruka pulled a chair next to him and sat. "You shouldn't act like this, we have a case to solve, remember?"

"Did you ever regret the day you left Katashi and me when you found out he wasn't your child?" Kaito spat. "When you abandoned me in Japan, did you ever look back, or did you ever once think about me?"

The questions caught Haruka off guard. He tilted his head, completely puzzled by Kaito's inquiry. "What do you mean—"

"Did you ever regret leaving your son in another country to pursue your career?" Kaito hiccuped.

"Of course I did," Haruka confessed. "I still do. Because I left, my son turned out to be a deadly criminal. I'm not exactly happy about what I did." He crossed his arms. Kaito raised the bottle to his lips but Wilson snatched it away.

"Give it back." Kaito snarled.

"Look at the wall.." Wilson swore under his breath. There were glass shards stuck in the wall and scattered all over the tile. "Usually when you're upset, you don't throw things unless someone double-crossed you. What happened between Samantha and you?"

"Give it back you son of a—" Kaito lunged forward and snatched Wilson close by his shirt. Haruka stood in between the two men and pried Kaito off.

"Stop acting like a child and say what's wrong with you." Haruka nudged Kaito back. "Don't provoke him, Wilson." He pointed at the blonde man.

"I'm going to be a father," Kaito muttered angrily. He was angry with himself for allowing the situation to happen. After being abandoned, he didn't know the first thing about being a father. He didn't care for women, but Samantha didn't deserve this. His unborn child definitely didn't deserve to be brought into a cruel world by a loving mother and a deranged father.

"What?" Wilson dropped the half-empty beer bottle and it smashed on the ground. The liquid inside spread out all over the floor. "Samantha.. is she?"

"She's 8 weeks pregnant." Kaito hissed.

"Shite." Wilson dropped his shoulders in worry.

Haruka balled his fists and clenched his jaw. Then he raised his hand and slapped Kaito hard. His head whipped to the side, but Haruka didn't stop hitting him. Kaito allowed himself to be slapped. He deserved it.

"You dastard! Do you have any idea what kind of situation this will put us in? After this case, you'll be going back to jail! She's going to have to raise the child alone!" Haruka snarled in his face. "What did you tell her?"

"We're going to keep the child." Kaito groaned.

"You're not ready to be a father, you dipstick!"

"What else was I supposed to do? Tell her to abort it?"

"Yes!" Haruka snapped. "You need to bring that woman here and tell her the truth about everything. Tell her who you are! Then tell her to get rid of it! This has gone on for too long."

"I can't do that," Kaito mumbled. "If she finds out my identity, the mission—"

"Bring her to me, and I will explain everything. Your mission was to work undercover and find Asuka. We have to find your brother!" Haruka growled. "I never told you to get married and start a family! Do you know how many families you've ruined by executing your victims? You don't deserve a wife or a kid!"

"I only became that way because of you." Kaito croaked. "I killed those people because I had to. While you were having the best time of your life in this country, I had to grow up early and work to pay off the debt you left. You weren't going to take care of Katashi, so I stepped up as his older brother and helped raise him."

His words hurt Haruka, they were extremely painful to hear. Right now wasn't a good time for the two to talk about the past. Instead of letting Kaito offend him, he repeated his command. "You're going to bring Samantha here, and tell her the truth."

"Actually, I don't think now is the best time to do that." Wilson intervened. "What's going to happen if she finds out that a cop was the one who didn't stop Kaito from getting involved with her."

"I tried!" Haruka growled. "He wouldn't listen!"

"But she won't believe that." Wilson sighed. "It's your words against hers. She won't listen. The moment she finds out his real identity, I'm sure she will call your colleagues. I'm sure the others who work at your station don't know that Kaito is working undercover for you, right?"

Haruka chose not to answer. Wilson was right. Only a few on his team knew about Kaito's whereabouts. The workers at Queenstown prison knew, and so did a few of the Japanese police stations. But that was not the case for his American department. He was the only detective assigned to this case.

"I think we should wait it out. It's already too late for any of us to back out." Wilson stated. "Besides, I've found out something that's quite interesting. Maybe you both would like to hear."

"Go on." Haruka motioned with his hand.

"I overheard 2 staff members at the CW Company talking about Oliver, the journalist who died. He'd been acting suspicious and hiding some important business info before he quit." Wilson chuckled. "We have Samantha's cellphone to thank for this discovery."

~

Kaito pulled next to the tall CW Broadcasting station and parked his bike. He took off his helmet and placed it on the handle before swinging his leg off.

His goal was to sneak away inside the closed office and find the company's list of employees. It was pretty late, almost 11 PM, so it felt like the perfect time for a quick break-in.

He brought Samantha's ID card, this way he wouldn't set off any alarms. The company was not extremely guarded, but it had decent measures to keep unwanted people out.

He unlocked the front door with a hairpin and scanned the card. The alarm system flashed to green and allowed him to go through. Kaito quickly-paced his way through the lobby and studied the environment.

He saw that one of the main offices was on the left, but he needed to find a storage room. He hid back and forth against the walls and looked around. There was a dim light in the hallway that radiated out of a doorway.

Kaito took soft steps in that direction and opened the door. "There we go." He mumbled to himself and stepped into the room. There were shelves full of boxes and file cabinets, which contained hundreds of old documents. He ran his fingers across the different labels, searching for one that had the keyword employee.

After a few minutes, he found it and pulled the box off the shelf. Then he opened it and blew the dust off the folders. What was that journalist's last name again? Kaito tapped his chin and remembered before searching through the folders with 'H' on them.

He pulled out the exact folder with Oliver's last name and looked through it, but he noticed that there was an empty case for a USB drive. That meant someone must've been looking through the files before he did. He wondered why and took a quick photo of the empty case with his cellphone before placing the folder back in the box.

"Haruka.. there's an empty case in here and it looks like there was a flash drive that was removed before I got here. If Oliver had his hands on any important info, I think it was in there. We've gotta find that USB drive. I'm sending you the photo." Kaito sent a voice note the Haruka's number, before deleting his message.

It was a safety precaution so just in case Samantha looked through his phone, she wouldn't see anything suspicious.
