Samantha's words stuck in Kaito's mind. He hated that she was absolutely right. He had never been the type of person to run away from any fight. So he wasn't sure what exactly was coming over him.

He needed to go to Haruka, report the suspicious behavior and put an end to this case so he could finally return Samantha and Keiji back to America safely. And that's exactly what he had planned on doing, tonight. He and Nina were planning on returning to Inochi's office.

"There's no one here again." Nina pointed ahead. "You're not gonna tell us to report back to Haruka again, are you?"

Kaito took a step towards the crosswalk and tilted his head up. He saw a dim light shining through the tightly closed blinds on the third floor. Although there was no type of security guarding the entrance, it wasn't like Inochi to leave his office for several days. "Hmm.. no." Kaito looked at Nina. "You see that light up there?"

"You're right, I didn't notice that before."

"Not quite sure if someone is on the main floor, but whoever is up there, they'll be getting quite the surprise."

Nina's eyes widened. "How do you suppose we get up there?"

"We won't," Kaito smirked at her. "I will. You will enter through the main entrance."

Nina blinked at him as if he told her Kanye West became king of the world. "Are you crazy?"

"I've been told so."

"How are you even going to get up there?! You're not Spider-Man! You can't stick to walls stupid!"

"Oh please. Climbing that wall won't be an issue for me. Do you know how many times I had to set up traps on top of buildings? The best way to kill is from above. The targets never see it coming."

"And you're expecting me to waltz through that main entrance as if I belong there? Alone?"

Kaito slapped his hand on Nina's shoulder. "You're a cop. You can take care of yourself, can't you? I'm the one doing all the dirty work. All you have to do is set up Wilson's devices and get the heck out."

Before Nina could say anything else, Kaito stepped ahead and began ambling across the street. The largest grin appeared on his face as Nina called after him while jogging toward the building. "Kaito, this is ridiculous! Let's just go back to Haruka, and let his team find Inochi to investigate."

"No."

"No? What do you mean no?" Nina stopped abruptly to prevent herself from walking into his back.

"I'm not a part of Inochi's family, but he upholds a code. One that I must follow. There is a code of chivalry. I am not going to bring harm to him or his business unless it's completely necessary."

"Even so, do you know how out of hand things will get if I waltz into the wrong area and get caught?"

"I should ask you the same thing. Do you know how out of proportion our investigation will be once Inochi finds out I ratted him out to the cops? I'm just trying to see if he has anything to do with Katashi's disappearance. That's all."

"Kaito!--"

"Don't get caught." Kaito shushed her and placed his index finger to his lips. "Do your job, and I'll meet you back out here in 15 minutes." Kaito turned around to the building and grabbed onto the wooden pillar. He tightened his hold as he climbed against it, and hoisted himself over the tiny roof that put him closer to the window on the third floor.

Nina slapped her palm against her forehead in frustration. "Haruka.. why did you assign me to work with your crazy kid?" She mumbled to herself. Then she went ahead through the entrance, leaving Kaito to do his own thing.

Kaito jumped and clutched onto the edge of one of the third-floor windows, slipping for a moment before finally regaining his composure. It had been a while since he'd done this much climbing. He needed to go back to the gym and train. Kaito slid the window panel open, swung one leg through it, and pulled the rest of his body inside the office.

He let his feet land on the floor softly and clapped his hands together to get the dirt off. Then he sighed and glanced around. The light was on, but no one was inside. Kaito took a deep breath and carefully took steps towards a desk by the right of the room, and skimmed the various documents. Other than a few business documents and invitations to some major events, nothing caught his eye.

"Where could Inochi be?" Kaito mumbled to himself.

"State your purpose of being here, and you'll find out." A deep and heavy accented voice growled behind him. Kaito felt a cold barrel of the gun pressed against the back of his head, so his muscles tensed up. The voice belonged to Inochi, but Kaito knew with the new haircut and style of clothes, he wasn't able to recognize him.

"You're awfully quiet. Cat got your tongue?" Inochi spat. "In English, that is the expression for, you have nothing to say? But I don't like silence from trespassers. So I'm going to count to 10, and if you don't state your reason for climbing through my window and snooping I'm going to blow your head out." The sound of the gun clicking made Kaito's blood rush. "8.. 9.."

Kaito quickly dipped his head and turned around with his hands in the air. He used one hand to lower his mask, and Inochi stopped counting and only blinked at Kaito. "Kaito?"

"It's nice to see you, Inochi," Kaito smirked at him. Inochi was a tall man, the same height as Kaito with a scar on his left cheek. His hair was permed into curls and he reeked of cigarettes. Despite his unusual appearance, Kaito still viewed him as an old friend that introduced him to a way to provide for his family.

"Jesus, you've gotten fat." Inochi lowered his weapon and reached up to point at Kaito's face. "How much American food did you eat? I told you not to eat the hamburgers."

Kaito chuckled at Inochi's observation. He wasn't fat literally, but he hadn't been able to do his usual workouts at a gym ever since he was arrested. Kaito was still built well because he watched what he ate constantly, but not going to the gym was affecting his body.

"Why did you come through the window, kid? You should've taken the elevator!" Inochi swore under his breath. "Scared me half to death."

"There was no security at the door, so I figured something was up." Kaito lied.

"Oh, okay." Inochi placed the gun on the desk and punched Kaito in the stomach without warning. Kaito crouched over slightly, taking the hit, but a soft groan escaped his lips.

"Where have you been all these years? I've been trying to reach you! Did you change your number? Why did you cut your hair? You look like one of those celebrities from Korea."

Kaito stood back up straight. "I thought a new look would suit me."

"Trust me, boy. It doesn't."

Kaito brushed his hair back and glanced at himself in a nearby small mirror. He knew Samantha liked the cut. Maybe her taste was changing him.

Inochi walked over to a nearby mini-fridge and pulled out two cans of beer. He handed one to Kaito, but Kaito eyed it suspiciously. "It's been so long since we've sat and had a conversation." Inochi walked over to two couches and sat in one, and gestured for Kaito to do the same.

"Actually, I don't really have much time to chat."

"Hunting a new target? Is that why you're in a hurry?" Inochi popped off the top of his can and took a nice long swig of the drink.

"Um.." Kaito sighed. "Actually, I just want to ask you some questions."

"Ask me questions?" Inochi laughed. "We haven't seen each other in 3 years and you want to ask me questions? We know everything about each other."

"Not everything." Kaito opened his can and took a small sip of the beer, letting the bitter liquid run down his throat.

"Are you accusing me of something, boy?"

"Not at all." Kaito smiled at him. "You remember back when I was a kid, struggling to make ends meet for my family? You helped me pay off my family's debt."

"Uhuh." Inochi hummed. "How are they by the way? How's the child brother of yours? He must be like 21 by now. Does he still run away from women?"

"I was hoping you'd know." Kaito leaned against the arm of the couch.

"What do you mean?"

"Katashi went missing a few years ago." Kaito narrowed his eyes at Inochi.

"Oh. I don't know what to say." Inochi took another swig of his can. "Are you expecting me to say something?"

"He had some contact with Asuka. Needed to borrow some money for something."

"Stupid Watanabe's."

"But when I met with Asuka, he said that he hadn't heard from him in a while." Kaito downed his whole can in one go, and chucked the empty beer can aside. Then he cracked his knuckles and glared at Inochi. "I'd hate to find out that a good trusted friend of mine had anything to do with my little brother's disappearance."

"Are you serious?" Inochi scoffed and took out a cigarette. He placed it in between his lips and lit it. "You're suspecting me?"

"Asuka knows about my family because he is a ruthless dastard who doesn't know his place. He paid to get intel on me." Kaito spat. "But you're the only Yakuza boss who knows about my family, in a closer way."

"I wouldn't ask about your family's well-being if I knew where Katashi was, Kaito. Don't be stubborn and accusatory. That's not how I taught you. Think, don't act rashly."

He was lying. Kaito noticed how defensive he was, but there was clear evidence that Katashi had something to do with Inochi.

"I'm not sure where all this is coming from." Inochi gestured at Kaito's whole frame. "You disappear for some years and then you show up dressed as if you came from Tokyo. Now you're accusing me of doing something to your brother. I won't stand for it. We have an oath, but if you're having doubts, I suggest you leave my office and come back another day."

Kaito stood there for a moment, but vibration from his pockets brought him out of his thoughts. Kaito checked his phone. Nina texted him to let him know she finished planting the cameras downstairs.

"I'm sorry. These days I've been exhausted. I should head out." Kaito pushed himself off the arm of the couch. "It was good seeing you again, Inochi. I'll come back when I have more time." Kaito left the office through the main entrance this time and met up with Nina down the block.

"That dastard lied to me." Kaito clenched his fists. "I can't believe he lied to me... to my face."

"Are you okay?" Nina frowned at him. "What happened up there?"

Kaito ignored her and stepped aside, but Nina grabbed him by the shoulder. "DON'T!" Kaito snarled at her. "I need a moment alone. Leave me be." He yanked himself away from her and left her in the street to watch him as he stormed off. Nina felt confused, and she decided to call Haruka to warn him about Kaito's behavior.

~

Kaito stumbled back to his mother's home, drunk as a sailor. It was raining hard outside, so Kaito was drenched and cold. His mind felt foggy and his vision wavered more with every step he took. Just before he could reach the gate, he bumped into someone's shoulder.

The movement caused Kaito's blood to rise, and he felt very hot in that moment. His body was filled with fury. Not only was he lied to by a very close friend, but now some idiot had pushed him off his course. He was overwhelmed and overcome with bitter anger, and he was ready to unleash it.

"Hey.." Kaito darkened his tone and snatched the person who bumped into him him. He slurred out an insult in Japanese and began swearing uncontrollably. The local was a young man, too focused on getting out of the rain to notice Kaito's appearance.

"I'm talking to you lanky piece of sh—" Kaito was shoved back roughly. Kaito caught himself in surprise. The local only ticked him off further. "Do you want to die?" Kaito was craving blood. He wanted to see the young man's blood drain out of his body. "Come here." He gestured and slurred aggressively.

"Gomen'nasai!"

"If you don't come here, I'm going to snap your neck." Kaito spat venomously and slugged a step forward. He raised his fist and landed a blow on the young man's face. "I'll kill you."

The young man flew to the ground. His body collided with the mud and snow. Kaito tilted his head and climbed on top of the man, before punching him over and over. The man shouted for help, but no one else was out on the street to hear him.

A few thugs passing by noticed the two and went over to investigate. Two of them grabbed ahold of Kaito and the other helped the young man who was bruised all over his face to safety and away from Kaito's rage.

Eventually, the fight that started with a drunk and an innocent local turned into a brawl full of thugs. Kaito was too drunk to keep track of all the attacks handed to him. He was punched and kicked, and thrown into the mud several times, and it didn't help that the rain was causing him to slip around.

Every hit was a lot harder to take. Kaito's frustration rose when he couldn't land a single fist on either of the thugs.

"Stop!" Samantha's voice rang from the distance. "Stop it!" She grabbed one thug's arm and tugged him away. "Don't hit him!"
