No trumpets sounds when the important decisions of our life are made. Destiny is made known Silently.
The Pandavas returned to their part of the palace. Today, for them have been a very hectic and tiring day. So many new revelations and decisions were taken.
Their mata had kept such a big secret from them. It had hurt them, but they have understood how much pain Mata was in at the loss of their brother. All of them entered the room where family meals were taken.
They sat on their respective chairs.
"Jyesht Yuddhisthir, Maa ne hume yeh sab kyu nehi bataya? (Why didn't Mother told us these things?) " asked Bhima.
"Gyaat nehi Bhima! (I don't know Bhima) I had no idea we had an elder brother. All of us got to know today itself!" said Yuddhisthir.
" Waise bhi (anyway), even if she had told us, we would be of no help! We were children when all this happened and some of us were not even born!" lamented Sahadev.
All the brothers agreed. They all were rather young at that time to be of any help.
"By the way, bhrata Yuddhisthira, bhrata Bhima, anuj Nakula and Sahadeva, I have a plan!" said Arjuna, excited as he leaned towards them.
"Nehi!! (No!!!)Every idea of yours land us in trouble all the time." Nakula said.
"That's because you two are always up to mischief. No matter which one of us does the mischief, the blame falls on you by default." pointed out Bhima, laughing at his little brothers pouting faces.
Arjuna rolled his eyes at their faces while Yuddhisthira had a small smile on his face.
"Suniye to puri baat pehle!! (Listen to my entire plan first!)" Whined Arjuna.
" Acha bollo bollo.(Okay say, say.)" replied Yuddhisthira fondly, thinking who ever thought that the twins were
the only mischief maker of the family, was so wrong!
" Aise nehi (Not like this), come in a huddle." said Arjuna, quickly going towards the middle, near the open floor. The other brothers followed. Nakula and Sahadeva was excited to hear what their elder brother Arjuna had planned. While Yuddhisthira was intrigued and Bhima grumbled at having to get up, but went along with his younger brother's wishes.
They all huddled together. Arjuna said or rather whispered.
"I asked the spy to wait for us in the atithishala. We can find out where Jyesht lives and go to meet him and see him for ourselves what kind of person he is."
All the brothers' eyes widened.
"While it is a good plan, bhrata Arjuna but we can't go as Princes." said Sahadeva.
"Offo, murkh.(No, idiot!) Who is going in these royal clothes? We will go in commoners clothing." scolded Arjuna.
" Then it's okay!" replied Nakula.
" It's a good plan, we can go right Bhrata Yuddhisthira? " Asked Bhima.
Yuddhisthira looked at his brothers' eager faces and did not have the heart to say no to them. He nodded his consent. He was also curious about his elder brother and that girl too, whoever she was!
Kunti walked down the hallway of Pandava side of the Palace. She worried about how she was going to explain to her sons about not telling them about their elder brother. She entered the family meal room, to see her sons huddle among each other. She blinked utterly confused. Why did she always stumbled upon her sons, when they were behaving weird?
"Putro!" She called. Her sons jumped apart all of a sudden, as if they were caught while stealing ladoos or makhan.
Yuddhisthira prayed she did not ask him anything, he cannot lie! Arjuna looked at his brothers and signaled them to divert their mother's attention. Nakula signaled back.
" Maa! Pyaari maa! (Darling mother!)" Said Nakul. He grabbed Kunti's shoulder's and made her spin.
"Putra Nakul!" Said Kunti, shocked at her son's weird behaviour. He passed her to Sahadeva, who took her for a spin too.
" Maa, be happy! Today is a happy day!" said Sahadeva. He passed her to Arjuna, who made her spin as well.
"Kya maa?(Why mother?) Why such a sad face? Smile please!" said Arjuna. He passed her to Bhima. Bhima simply picked her up and deposited her on her seat carefully.
Kunti clutched her head, which was going round and round. Her eyesight returned after a few minutes.
Yuddhisthira placed a glass filled with water in her hand, which she took. Her hand shaking a bit.
She sipped the water for a few minutes.
"Tum logo ko hua kya hai?(What has happened to you?) Why were you spinning me around all of a sudden?" asked Kunti, utterly confused.
" Wo...actually maa, we were just so happy. We got to know about Jyesht today. We found him today as well! So, we decided to celebrate!" said Sahadev happily.
" You all are not angry?" questioned Kunti, hope in her voice.
" We were hurt maa, that you did not trust us. But we understand! It had hurt you to even speak about Jyesht! And we were children then, too young to even help you! toh nehi maa hum mei sei koi rusht nehi hai! (None of us are angry mother)" said Yuddhisthir gently.
Kunti smiled happy her sons understood. She just hoped she get her eldest as well, then her family would be complete.
Unknown to her Arjuna said softly to his brothers so only they could hear him.
"Ajj Ratri! (Tonight) "
The Pandava very stealthily walked past the room of their mother and disappeared in the darkness of the night.
"Bhrata, aur kitna dur?(Brother, how long?) " Asked Sahadeva.
" Aa gaye hai!(Here we are!) Come inside." said Arjuna to his brothers.
One by one all the brothers slipped inside the room. Arjuna entered last. Inside the room four marshals stood giving adequate light to the room, but not enough to be noticed by anyone. There was six chairs present. On which the guptachaar was seated. He got up when they entered.
"Thank you for staying!" said Arjun.
"Koi baat nehi Rajkumar! (No problem, prince) How can I be of help?" asked the spy.
" We want to know about Jyesht!" said Bhima immediately.
Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva slapped their foreheads at their elder brother's straight forward question. Yuddhisthira simply smiled and was very amused. The spy was confused.
"But Rajkumar, I already told what I know about him!" said the spy.
" We know, we wish to see the house where he lives. Can you take us?" questioned Nakula.
" Of course!" said the spy.
"Then let's go!" replied Arjuna.
The spy showed the five Pandavas, Karna's house near the Ganga ghat. Then he left as ordered by them. They planned to come in this very place tomorrow before anyone wakes up.
Dawn was still five hours away. The birds haven't even woken up. The night was still prevalent, but five people were already up and were having a huge breakfast, prepared by their brother Bhima.
The Pandavas were all ready to do their operation Jyesht Bhrata.
" What about Maa? She will worry!" asked a worried Yuddhisthira. He was still not sure about this secret outing though he was curious.
" Don't worry Bhrata! I already told my daas to inform her about our sudden excursion." said Nakula.
" What? You told her the actual reason?" asked a horrified Arjuna.
" Nehi! Kya bhrata, thora to vishvaas kijiye! Mei koi chota baccha nehi hu! (No! What brother, believe me a little! I am not a small child!) I told her that we are going to a weapons exhibition in a neighboring village!" said Nakul exasperated.
While Yuddhisthira and Sahadeva looked absolutely entertained at their antics. Bhima was busy in his world of food.
"Aap logo ko bhojan nehi chahiye?(You don't want food?) Then, I am finishing the rest of the food!" said Bhima, annoyed they were not eating.
" Nehi bhrata!! (No brother!)" Yelled both Nakul, Sahadev and Arjun. Yuddhisthir chuckled.
All the Pandavas finished their food, finally after a lot of arguments and leg-pulling. They were already dressed in common clothes, so they ventured out towards the house of Karna. Karna was wearing a matted golden dhoti. He was walking down the ghat for his morning bath. He had been feeling that someone was watching him since yesterday. Even now, but when had he turned back no one was there. The Pandavas saw a man walking down the Ganga ghat. They stopped to see, if this was their eldest brother.
" Aap ko lagta hai yehi hai humare Jyesht? Koi aur bhi to ho sakta hai! (Do you think this is our eldest? Anyone else could be there!) " Questioned Sahadev.
Arjuna had stopped them curious about the person. His instincts have been screaming at his to stop, when they had seen the male.
"Dekne mei asuvidha hai kya? (Where is the problem in watching?) And there is no one else around other than him. And the only
house near to this ghat is the one that the spy pointed out!" said Arjuna.
" If Arjuna wants to observe this male! Let's observe, it not really a problem. And it's better than observing the house!" said Bhima, irritated.
All the brothers looked at each other and hid behind the bushes and trees bordering the area. When Karna had turned back, they all had hid before peaking again. They all saw him emerge from the water, his hands joined with the sun coming up behind him. He truly looked divine at that moment as his own radiance was increased at that moment, unconsciously. His Kundal's glinted in the sun rays.
Karna had no idea he had an audience, neither he knew he was releasing radiance unconsciously. He offered prayers to his celestial father, going about his everyday routine of performing yoga before the Sun.
Pandavas blinked at the scene before them. All of them were amazed. Only one thought going through them, ' This has to be their eldest brother!'
A shout was heard by them. That caused them to hide again in their respective places. They saw a beautiful young, coming towards the direction of the ghat. She seemed to be older than the five of them, but younger than their eldest brother. Karna had already finished his daily yoga practice. He turned to see Advika coming toward where he was. A soft and slow smile brightened his face, his radiance still increased, not that he realized he was releasing radiance.
Advika smiled at Karna when she reached him. He was again releasing his radiance, without realizing. Her smile turned exasperated. Really, does he want to announce to the world that he is a devputra?
"Aap firse wahi kar rahe hai! (You are still doing it again.)" She said exasperated at her dear friend. Karna blinked, wondering what he did now?
"Maine kya kia? (What did I do?)" He asked.
Advika shook her head at his confused tone. "Look around!" she gestured to him.
"Oh!" said Karna, his smile sheepish, as he looked around and he saw that he was literally glowing and so was his nearby surroundings, which would become ash if he did not control his radiance. The only one who was not affected was Advika. She was Devi Prithvi's daughter, therefore she was used to far more amount of heat.
"I learnt how to control it when I was in Suryalok, Pitashree taught me how to. I don't know why is it getting released without my knowledge!" said Karna frowning.
"Perhaps you have something on your mind?" guessed Advika.
" Sakha? " She questioned again, when she saw him deep in thought.
"Do you feel like someone is following us?" asked Karna, as he looked around.
"Nehi to!! Kyu?(No, why?)" Asked Advika, curious.
"Pata nehi kyu aisa lag raha hai parantu ( I don't know why ) but...I feel as if someone is following us!" he said.
"Your paranoia is talking! Come on, you said you would come with me to the bazaar! You are coming right?" asked Advika, a sad pout on her face.
"Of course!" said Karna, a smile on his face.
Advika smiled happily as she chattered about how she promised Radha kaki that she would bring the best vegetables in the market. Karna simply smiled fondly at his dear friend.
On the other hand, the Pandavas were very confused. Who was the girl? She seems very friendly with their Jyesht. And Jyesht was also speaking with her happily and even with a soft smile on his face. Was she a friend of Jyesht? Or something else?
"Kaun hai yeh stree? (Who is this women?)" asked Bhima, wondering about the lady with his eldest brother.
"Pata nehi! (I don't know!) Perhaps she is the same female who the spy was talking about, yesterday?" guessed Nakula.
"Ho sakta hai! (It could be!) We will have to follow them to find out. Come on! They are moving." said Arjuna, urging them to move forward.
All the Pandavas followed at a distance behind them, being very careful to not get caught. Their Jyesht seemed to be a very able warrior and experienced as well. He had almost caught them once or twice.
While the Pandavas were great warriors too, but they were not experienced. Not yet! They followed behind their brother and his lady friend towards the market.
Their brother's lady friend seemed to have gone straight to the place where vegetables were sold. Their brother followed at a sedate space and was choosing vegetables from the cart.
" Waah, looks like jyesht knows how to cook!" praised Bhima, happy he had a common interest with his Jyesht. An excellent cook knew his vegetables after all.
While Yuddhisthira smiled fondly, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva simply rolled their eyes.
"Let's spread out!" suggested Nakula.
All nodded, but Yuddhisthira cautioned " Don't go far!"
They agreed and all spread out, around their targets, that is, their Jyesht and his lady friend. All of them went to nearby stalls looking like as if they are going to buy something.
Yuddhisthira was at the cart selling vegetables, near his elder brother. Nakula and Sahadeva was behind him at a toy stall. While Arjuna and Bhima were beside them in a cloth stall. All of them were sneaking glances at their targets, uh..Karna and Advika.
Karna saw the vegetables in the next cart was fresher, especially the cabbage. He decided to check it out. He signaled Advika that he is going over there and to join him after she finish paying for the purchase.
Yuddhisthira tensed when he saw his elder coming towards exactly where he was standing. He prayed to whichever lord was listening to help him out. His eyes strayed to his brothers who all looked tensed. His father had named him and blessed him so he would never be tensed in a war. He never said anything about how to deal with his elder brother, who had no idea about him, and whom he was tailing like a spy. He literally yelled 'HELP!' in his mind.
Karna looked at young man beside him, who was standing with the only cabbage on the cart, in his hand. He looked tense.
"Do you need that?" asked Karna, pointing at the cabbage.
" Uhhh! No.." said Yuddhisthira, looking wide eyed at his elder brother who was asking him whether he wanted the cabbage. He was so tensed. He decided to scold Arjuna for this very bad idea. What was he supposed to do now? He had never been in such a situation, before.
Karna raised an eyebrow at the young man's tensed face. He was like an open book for him. It made him wondered why the man was worried about a cabbage of all things! Perhaps he came for the first time to buy vegetables? Possible.
" Yeh chahiye to le sakte ho! (If you need this, you can take it.) I can always look elsewhere! This one is fresh, if you are wondering whether to take it or not!" advised Karna, feeling a bit sympathetic.... since the young man was so tensed. Though something in him wanted to help him, he had no idea why.
Yuddhisthira was sweating buckets by now.
" Nehi!(No!) You can take, I don't need it!" said Yuddhisthira hurriedly.
" Sure?" asked Karna, still a bit skeptical.
"Arey, sakha! If he is saying he does not want the cabbage, then why are you pressuring him?" said Advika, joining the conversation.
Advika looked at the male beside Karna, who seemed tensed to buy a cabbage! So weird! Karna nodded, bought the cabbage and left along with Advika.
Immediately when they left, the other four rushed to Yuddhisthira.
" Are you okay?" asked Arjuna, worried if their operation was over.
" Yes! But I am not doing this anymore!" said Yuddhisthira, happy to have his brothers near him and still annoyed at the plan or at Arjuna, the plan maker.
" But..." protested Nakula and Sahadeva.
Before they can complete, a huge commotion was heard within the market. Huge trumpets were heard, as the announcer arrived.
" Suno suno, the praja of Hastinapura! It has been announced that a Kala Pradarshan will be held two days from now, within the arena of the palace. It is open to everyone within the praja. The only requirement is that you should know the weapon you are participating with. If you wish to participate then be present at the arena at the third peher of the day. This is open to all the varnas. No one will be discriminated. "
Karna and Advika stood near the back of the huge crowd. The disguised Pandavas stood behind them. They could hear clearly whatever their eldest brother spoke.
"You will participate right?" asked Advika, very excited.
" No!" said Karna, looking absolutely disinterested.
The Pandavas eyes widened. Oh no! This would spill water on every planning of Pitamaha. Before they could do anything, they heard the lady friend of Jyesht speaking again.
" Kyu nehi? (Why not?)" Asked Advika, not understanding.
" I don't want to!" replied Karna.
Karna had gotten a lot of positive appreciation from his celestial family as well as his gurus. He did not have the need to prove himself. Shani dev had made sure what he saw happening without Advika's presence, will never take place at all. So Karna's innate need to prove himself and to gain appreciation for his skills was not there anymore. So he had no want to go to the Kala Pradarshan. Advika was stubborn. Her instincts were saying Karna had to go to this Pradarshan, something would be revealed then. What? she had no idea! She was someone who heeded her instincts, so she did what she could to make him agree to go!
" Aap ko meri kasam! (You have my swear!)" Said Advika.
" Kya? (What!)" asked Karna, absolutely shocked.
" Go to Competition, please?" said Advika.
" But why?" asked Karna, now confused and a bit baffled at her persistence in making him go there.
" Look, it has been years, right? Kaki has no idea about your skills! She would love to see her son participating! and I want to see by best friend participating! please?" explained Advika.
Karna looked at her for a while before agreeing. He had never seen her be so stubborn. If she wanted to see his skills, she could show both her and his family within the confinement of the forest. There was no need to go to a competition!
Why was she behaving so weird? And why was he still feeling as if he is being followed?
