It took multiple hours for the Lambordi family to reach home. Among them about three of their state was battered.

Though Antonio's condition had stabilized but he was still under the observation by the medical staff and his brother Zach. As for Leila, she was also fast asleep in one of the hospital room with Luciano and Victor accompanying her.

Only Lucifer's state was critical. He had been under the heavy influence of drugs and physical and mental torture which resulted him to be in a comatose state. Angelo sat on the chair beside his bed, listening to the doctor as he narrated about the possibilities of his recovery.

Only Carlo and Xavier were at their home. Xavier was sitting in his office while Carlo sorted through the several documents in front of him.

Carlo noticed his brother's silence and raised a question.

"What's on your mind?"

Xavier looked up at him. For some reason, Carlo felt that something was strange. Earlier he had been extremely busy, from bringing the injured family members to hospital and then, his assistants and subordinates informed that the news of Lucifer Lambordi being alive had released. Although, a lot of people believed that it is a rumour and for confirmation, media and others were trying to contact them without stopping.

Carlo wanted to bury this matter for now and only confirm when his father got better but Xavier seemed to have the opposite on his mind when he stopped him.

"Xavier?"

Carlo called again.

"It's nothing. I'm just thinking our brothers seems to really not care that our father is miraculously alive." Xavier responded in a straightforward manner.

Carlo furrowed his brows.

"What do you mean?

"Nothing... nothing." Xavier dismissed the matter with the wave of his hand.

"What happened when I and Ace were rescuing father?" Carlo did not repress his curiosity further.

Xavier straightened his shoulders. Carlo observed him carefully. He felt like Xavier was deliberately hiding something.

"I killed that person. He was responsible for all of our sufferings."

The air tensed around them.

Carlo saw how the fingers of his left hand were scratching his right hand thumb's ring. The habit Xavier rarely displayed when he was tense.

"Who was he?"

Xavier stiffened for a moment. Carlo could not help but feel like there was something more that his brother was not letting on.

"Just someone from unknown origin. He was a threat to our family, in the past and future too... Thus, I eliminated him."

Carlo listened and then smiled faintly.

"Thank you, brother."

A moment later, his phone rang. He answered instantly seeing that it was from Angelo.

When he hung up, he informed Xavier about what Angelo said to him.

"The Silas family is at the hospital... The King's are also informed about Alexander. They will come here. Would you like me to deal with them?"

Carlo was infuriated after knowing what Alexander had done to Leila. Even Alexander was no more of a threat, he still wanted his family to suffer.

"There's no need."

"But--"

"Alexander had already cut ties off with his family. Why should we disrupt the peace when the threat has been already eliminated?"

"It's right if you say so. But we should still ask them for some serious compensation? It wasn't like they had truly given up on Alexander.... And who knows if they really did not have a hand in Leila's kidnapping?"

Xavier looked as if he was withholding a sigh.

"Do as you wish then."

Carlo stared at him for a moment before shutting the files he was reading earlier. Without another word, he left the office.

Xavier was usually cold and aloof but today, his temperament felt even more strange. He was never acting reserved when it came to the safety of his family. In these few minutes, Carlo felt like this Xavier was not the brother he usually looked up to.

Maybe something happened in his fight... What could have occured for him to change just like that?

Carlo shook his head.

His brother must be exhausted. He was tirelessly working since the past few days to search for Leila and all this rescuing and the sudden news of their father being alive might have taken a toll on him.

Even Carlo had tried to help his brother with his responsibilities since the moment, their parents were announced dead. Still Xavier wore the whole lot burden on his shoulders and there was a lot he refused to share.

Although Carlo wanted, he did not want to blame Xavier for his increased aloofness at the time period when his activeness was needed the most.

At the hospital, the whole Silas family was present. Leila had woken up an hour ago and Mrs. Silas as in Jennet was busy crying and pampering her.

"I was so worried that something would happen to you." The poor woman had not gotten enough sleep due to the stress of her goddaughter's absence. The dark circles and the tired look around her eyes was self explicable.

"Aunty... I'm fine. Please stop crying." Leila comforted her helplessly with a little blush of embarassment on her cheeks at everyone's silent stares who were present in the room.

These everyone were Vincent, Luciano, Adriano and three nurses.

Luciano was silently staring at the scene with jealousy filled eyes.

He should be the one comforting her.

A small knock sounded on the room and with the huff, Luciano went to receive it. Vincent stared at him confused.

A minute later, he returned with a familiar puppy.

"Milo!" Leila gasped.

Only then did Jennet released her, letting Leila recieve it.

"Milo, I missed you." Leila hugged it to the chest. The two month old husky had grown a little but it was still all cute and cuddly.

'So this was your plan.' Vincent gave a look to Luciano. To pull Jennet away, he had secretly called one of the guard to bring the puppy from home. Now he would not get jealous because he was the one who had gifted it to her.

Hence, everyone's mood brightened in the room and they became carefree as they saw Leila's smile.

But outside, the sudden dark clouds had covered the once blue and radiant sky.

In the Lambordi mansion, Xavier stood in front of the open window, watching the darkness slowly taking over the light. His eyes curved at the sight and a small chuckle left his lips.
