Emma POV
I was sitting on an empty bed in Hazel’s room, watching Mason pace around, clenching his fists and sighing angrily.
I was worried about him. He needed some peace and quiet, not this. I wished he didn’t have to deal with this again. I could see how scared he was, and it was breaking my heart.
My head was spinning from watching him pace around in a circle.
“Mase, man, can you please sit down?” Jax sighed. “I can’t watch you walk around anymore.”
I guess I wasn’t the only one who was having trouble watching him.
“Feel free to look away.” Mason said, shooting daggers at Jax as he continued to pace around.
He was going to make holes in the floor.
Jax rolled his eyes and laid down on Hazel’s bed with a huff.
I let out a small sigh and decided to distract myself with something else. My eyes fell on Hazel and Jax. They were holding hands and I smiled. I knew exactly how to distract myself.
“So, are you two together?” I asked, making Mason stop pacing for a second as he looked at Jax and Hazel.
Mason continued pacing around, letting out another angry sigh. Chris chuckled and spun around in Hazel’s desk chair.
“Yes, we are.”
“I don’t know.”
Jax and Hazel said at the same time.
I raised my eyebrows at them. Jax and Hazel looked at each other. Both of them were shocked and confused. Mason sighed angrily and Chris laughed.
“What do you mean, ‘I don’t know’?” Jax asked, sitting back up. “We are together.”
“Since when?” Hazel rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. “Did you ask me?”
“Oh, shit, man.” Chris laughed again. “You fucked up.”
“Shut the fuck up.” Jax said, sending an angry glare to Chris before looking back at Hazel. “What do you mean, I’ve never asked you? We’ve talked about this.”
“We did.” Hazel nodded. “But I’ve never heard ‘Elly, will you be my girlfriend?’ come out of your mouth.”
I tried to stop myself from laughing, but it was hard. Chris snorted and shook his head. Mason was still pacing around, but now he was looking at Jax and Hazel with an amused look on his face.
At least I managed to distract him a little.
“Elly, will you please be my girlfriend?” Jax asked, taking her hand in his and giving her a sweet smile.
“Yes.” Hazel chuckled, leaning in and kissing Jax.
A huge smile spread across my face, and I glanced at Chris. He was already looking at me. I felt heat rushing to my cheeks and I immediately looked back at Jax and Hazel, who were still kissing.
“Get a room.” Mason said with a huff.
“Well, this is my room.” Hazel said, looking at Mason. “So, technically, the three of you should get a room.”
Mason rolled his eyes, making Hazel chuckle.
“Ask again, Em.” Jax said, making me look at him.
He winked at me, and I laughed, shaking my head at his silliness.
“So, are you two together?” I asked, smirking.
“Yes.”
“I don’t know.”
They both said at the same time.
Chris and I laughed. Mason rolled his eyes and let out an annoyed sigh.
Hazel gasped and looked at Jax, who had a huge grin on his face.
“You suck, Jaxon.” Hazel said, slapping his shoulder.
“It’s called payback, Hazel.” Jax said, grabbing her and pulling her to his chest.
Hazel rolled her eyes but relaxed into his arms. I smiled at them. I was so happy for them.
“Em?” Jax called me.
“I am not asking a third time, Jax.” I sighed.
“No, not that.” Jax chuckled. “Can you please calm your brother down? He is driving me crazy. I’m getting motion sickness.”
I stiffened a laugh and looked at Mason. He was glaring at Jax with an annoyed look on his face.
“Massy?” I called him softly, making him look from Jax to me.
His eyes softened a bit, but the tension in his body didn’t leave.
“Come here.” I said as I patted the bed.
He studied my face for a second before he sighed and walked over to me. He sat down, leaning his head on my shoulder.
“Thank fuck.” Jax sighed.
I ran my fingers through his hair, and I felt him relax a little.
“What’s taking them so long?” Mason mumbled angrily.
“They are swiping the room and the dress for prints and other shit that fucker could have left behind.” Chris said. “These things take time, Mase. I’m sure that Peters will be here soon.”
“I think you and I should leave the school, Emma.” Mason said, making me stop running my fingers through his hair.
Leave the school?
But his friends were here. My friends were here. Everything we’ve worked for would be lost.
My eyes fell on Chris. He was staring at me, wide-eyed. His fists were clenched, and his jaw was ticking.
“Leave?” Jax repeated, shocked. “You can’t do that, Mason. You can’t let that fucker win!”
Mason raised his head and looked at Jax. He was pissed off. I took his hand in mine, squeezing it tightly.
“My sister is in danger again!” Mason said angrily. “It’s not about letting him win, it’s about keeping her safe.”
“You are more than capable of doing that here, Mason.” Chris said calmly.
“Did you forget that her heart stopped?” Mason asked, looking from Jax to Chris. “Did you forget that she almost died?”
Well, my heart didn’t stop, but now was not the time to correct Mason.
“Of course I didn’t.” Chris said, glancing at me. “But that happened only because she decided to help the police. That fucker would have never been able to get her otherwise. Do you think I would let him do that? I know for sure that you wouldn’t.”
“Neither would I.” Jax added. “She is safe with us, Mase. There is no need for you to leave.”
Mason wrapped an arm around my shoulders and kissed the top of my head. I could tell that he was lost in his thoughts.
A knock on the door made us all tense up.
The door opened and detective Peters peeked inside.
“Can I come in?” he asked.
“Yes.” Mason said, standing up. “Did you find something?”
“A lot of prints.” detective Peters sighed, closing the door behind him. “I’m assuming that most of them are yours.”
“When will you know for sure?” Mason asked him, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Well, I will need the five of you to give me your fingerprints.” detective Peters said, looking from Mason to the rest of us. “We will need to match your fingerprints with the ones we found in your room. If there will be any unidentified fingerprints left, they could be our unsub’s.”
“What did you do with the dress?” Mason asked.
“It’s in our lab.” detective Peters responded. “We are dusting the hanger and the dress for fingerprints or anything else that could tell us who put it in your room.”
“When will you know the results?” Mason asked, clenching his jaw.
“Soon.” detective Peters said. “We can start examining the fingerprints as soon as we take yours.”
“Let’s go then.” Mason said sternly, looking at our friends.
The four of us stood up. Detective Peters nodded and opened the bedroom door. Mason took my hand in his, pulling me closer to him.
“We will find him, Emmy.” Mason mumbled, kissing the top of my head as we waited for Hazel to lock her bedroom door. “I will never let anyone hurt you again.”
I looked up at him and smiled.
I knew that. Just as I wouldn’t let anyone hurt him again. Not even me.
