"Dinner is ready!" I yelled, knocking on Lionel's door. Almost immediately, he flung open his door and dragged me to the dining hall, passing Rex on the way there.
I waved at Rex as Lionel ran by, and he waved back, looking confused.
As Lionel burst into the dining room, not wasting a second to take his seat, I went into the kitchen to bring out the garlic bread as an appetizer of sorts. Chef Cooke and the other kitchen staff greeted me as I walked through the kitchen to the plate where I left the bread to cool and rest.
By the time I walked back into the dining hall, the rest of my siblings were in their seats, and Lionel was raving about the smell of the bread to all five of them.
"It smelled so good while it was baking, and there was so much butter all over it. Corvalia even said it would be better than the jam with bread, which is already- It's here!" Lionel perked up the second he saw me carrying the plate.
"This is rosemary garlic bread," I said, setting down the plate. "Just tear it apart like this," I ripped off a piece of the bread to demonstrate, "and enjoy!"
I handed the piece I was holding to Lionel, who immediately folded it in half and took a massive bite.
The rest of us all ripped off our own chunks of bread, enjoying the warm, soft, and buttery taste. The crust was softer than normal breads, something I personally preferred over hard, crunchy crusts.
"Whoaa, it's really good!" Isaac commented. "Better than what Lionel described!"
Lionel shot him a glare, but was too busy stuffing his mouth to bother replying.
"What do you all think? Is it better than the jam or not?"
Lionel gulped down whatever he was chewing and replied, "It's definitely better."
"Really?" Rex said. "It's good, but I think the jam and butter is also good too."
"Jam is good, but this garlic stuff is even better," Lionel said. "What if you make the garlic into a jam?"
"Jams are sweet, and I don't think sweet garlic would taste very good."
"Okay, but what about a salty jam for the garlic. That way you can spread it onto bread, just like with the fruit jams."
That wouldn't taste the same, but making a stash of garlic paste would be good to have for the future.
During this conversation, the kitchen maids brought out our dinner, and we continued eating. Of course, the bread was gone before the end of our meal.
