The story will start before you broke out of your cell

=================================

(Y/N Pov)

'I've always felt alone. My whole life. For as long as I can remember. I don't know if I like it or if I'm used to it, but I know this. being lonely does things to you. Feeling shit and bitter and angry all the time just... eats away at you...'

Despair. It was all that I feel right now. For God knows how long I've been stuck in this small cell, I couldn't scream- no. I couldn't even speak, to begin with.

Even if I tried my hardest to even utter a word... My mouth wouldn't open. Even when I hear HER music through this cell, this FUCKING cell, it wouldn't open, I can't tell her I hear her music through her gramophone.

I screamed in my mind. 'I hear it! G-God, Charlotte I hear it! Charlotte I hear it! I hear it Charlotte! God, how can I tell her I-I hear it?!'

But no matter how hard I struggled, no matter how hard l tried screaming for her. My mouth wouldn't open. It. Wouldn't. Open.

I sat down in defeat, silently crying to myself as I listened to her music, I enjoyed every second of it. It sounded so beautiful and serene, yet solemn, and lonely. I sat in silence listening to her music.

...

Until the music stopped. I snapped out of my trance and jolted up, wondering what happened to Charlotte

...

Then a letter slides into my cell, it was from Charlotte. I quickly ran to it and opened the letter. "Could you hear it from up there? I had turned it up extra loud for you. There's no better time than these for a little music... And yes, I feel lonely."

'Charlotte... I-I heard your music... I-I love it Charlotte... I'm so s-sorry for leaving you like this...'

I read the next letter. "Of course I could play the music again... But is it worth it? It'll never be the same magical moment again... That one moment... Between all the dreary ones... This can't go on forever"

I got another letter from Charlotte.

"I don't even know how many people are dead... I am afraid to look, I can only see what is outside my window... And I see nothing but blood."

I stopped. My heart started to grow worried, I calmed down and continued reading her letter.

"I think I am alone. Everyone... Is... Dead..."

'H-huh..?' My skin went pale, I got dizzy, and was breathing heavily... But I recomposed myself and continued reading her letter.

"The city lights are going out... The town has no electricity anymore. The only lights I see are coming from the prison."

I hesitated but continued reading the next letter.

"One more day... Tomorrow evening... Until then, you must come here. I will wait here. If you can't make it well... ...I fear this world has no place for me anymore. I am awaiting your arrival. Until then, here's a Blueberry Pie I made for you."

I opened the envelope and took the perfectly cut pie in the envelope, I don't know how she fit it inside but I didn't care about that anymore. It was a Blueberry Pie with a perfectly round, bright red, juicy cherry on top. I wanted to eat that pie, it looked so delicious. But I only prayed for Charlotte's safety, I kept praying, praying, and praying. Hoping that she was happy and patient, hoping she would wait forever for me. I know l was being selfish. But... I don't care. I want her to stay by my side forever.

Moving those thoughts away, I quickly ate the Blueberry Pie, it was amazing, it was so juicy and sweet. It was the best thing you have ever eaten, probably because this was the only decent meal I've had in all time...

I finished the pie and immediately fell asleep on my bed.

I woke up in a cold sweat, I couldn't stop thinking about her, I was worried about her.

I looked around and found an envelope in front of the cell door, it was from Salvadore. My best friend.

"Did you hear that wonderful music? I tried to head in its direction, but it was over too quickly. I'm so tired... I will go sleep in an empty apartment. God knows theres enough of those now... I need to see you again friend. You're probably still in that cell... All alone... Tomorrow, I will come visit you. But first, let us rest, friend."

'S-Salvadore! H-he's going to visit me!?' I was excited. Like. REALLY excited. Practically jumping around in my cell, feeling happy that my best friend, Salvadore. Was safe and sound.

I stopped jumping around when I saw another letter. This time, it was from my happy buddy.

I was assigned a happy buddy by Mr. Money, he wanted me to not feel happy or suicidal for whatever reason... My happy buddy occasionally sends me games to play on my "GameBoy" and a nice... Smiley... Picture to hang on my wall.

I came back to my senses and read his letter.

"Buddy!!! Are you playing your games??? Are you happy??? I am happy. But tired! Sleep buddy, sleep. Tomorrow... It'll all end."

For some reason, that sounded scary and cryptic to me... It sends a shiver down my spine. It felt like he was forcing these words out to me.

I snapped out of my thoughts and climbed back to bed, it was a tiring night. So I closed my eyes and waited to fall asleep... And waited... And waited... And waited..

...

For some reason, I couldn't sleep. It was the hardest time I have ever had to fall asleep. But I kept tossing and turning, eventually drifting to sleep.

THE NEXT DAY

I woke up from my sleep, stretching myself while sitting, making a few crack sounds. I noticed a letter in front of the cell door, I groggily walked to the letter and read it.

It was from my happy buddy.

"Goody goody morning! All good?? All fine?? ...I don't care..."

My heart dropped seeing this, I knew it would happen eventually but hearing this from someone who said fake, nice things is... Quite shocking.

"I am not your friend. I was never your friend. Doctor Money was blackmailing me. He kidnapped my daughters. He told me they were safe. They told me they'd be okay. As long as I kept you happy. ...but he lied."

I was shocked. He was trying to make you happy so that his daughters are.. Safe.

"My daughters are dead. They died from the virus two days ago. I never even got to say goodbye... But to you, I will. You cannot lose hope as I now have. I have another game for you. I don't have the money for the expenses, but there's a huge market for organs now. I have already sold one of my lungs yesterday. And now, I will finish what I started. I signed for them to take all my organs, money up front. I will not survive the procedure of course, But that's not important. You are one of the only ones left who are still healthy. Please don't lose hope. I hope you enjoy the game. I doubt it because it isn't fun. Like, seriously, not at all. I hope you keep going anyways. Always keep going. Don't give up like me. You never know how much more time you have... Goodbye."

You stood still, in disbelief and looked at the poster your happy buddy gave you. He was just trying to keep her daughter safe... But Mr. Money took every hope he has away, his daughters, his only motivation to keep living. I silently cried and played the last game he sent me. It was called Crank Master. It was a game where you shifted levers until you get a happy face, it was a really bad game as my happy buddy said...

You kept playing until you got a letter.

It was from Mr. Money.

"It has come to our attention that your happy buddy has stopped talking to you. We would like to remind you that you are loved and that you must remain happy."

There was another piece of paper falling from the letter, I picked it up and read the following.

"You are worth every penny."

'H-huh..? I am worth every penny..?' I stuttered.

But before you can start thinking, you got a letter from Salvadore.

You opened and read the letter.

"The town is dead. There is no life left in it. I am walking through these streets all alone. I am on my way."

...

"I think I am close to your prison. I am looking forward to seeing you again. You being in that cell all this time, you must still be alive... Right?"

'N-n-no Salvadore! I am alive and well!' It was scary, now your best friend is questioning your existence.

"I might be writing to a dead man... That thought is kind of scary. I will not give up though. A little virus won't kill you now, will it?"

I sighed heavily and sat down on my bed, everything seems more sadder. Mr. Smiley was dead, and-

...

A letter slid inside my cell. It was from Mr. Money...

"Listen, we have noticed that you are being contacted by someone with a measurably free spirit. We would like you to ignore all his letters from now on."

'What?! No way I am going to ignore my only best friend! Fuck you Mr. Money!'

"You are being taken care of. You are being protected from the virus and the horrors of the outside world. Do not forget: You are a PRISONER."

I grumbled in anger, why should I listen to him?! But I have no choice anyways since I'm stuck inside here...

.

.

.

About an hour later, I got a letter from Salvadore.

"I think I can see your prison from here. Maybe one or two hours now... I can't wait. And once I'm there, I will release you from your prison. Sincerely, Salvadore"

You get a letter following that from Mr. Money

"This friend of yours... Salvadore. He cannot be here. I do not appreciate the way he talks. I do not appreciate the way he's talking about freedom to you.

'Hah! What are you-' my thoughts were cut off by another letter from Mr. Money

" This is no joke. Cease all contact with this Salvadore."

'Fuck you Mr. Money!'

Another letter from Salvadore.

"Friend, I have arrived. Where is your cell? Where are these letters being sent to? I cannot enter the building all the doors are locked."

'I... I don't know Salvadore! God, all I know is I'm in a stupid cell...!' I sat down while thinking of a way to tell Salvadore, another letter from him slid in.

"I broke in, but the elevator won't come and there are no stairs. It seems I have no way of getting however high you are up. There must be another way. It is getting late friend. Maybe I don't have to get up there, maybe... You can come down here..?"

(Second Pov)

(Y/N) soon became enraged, 'Huh!? I can't even fucking get out of this cell! And you're telling me to come down?!'

You thought it was impossible, there must be a way to tell him you can't. You soon get another letter from Salvadore.

"You know, the building you are in was never meant to be a prison. There are no cells on the bottom floor, and looking at the plans, there are no cells anywhere. Doctor Money money must have repurposed the building for locking you up. ...but why would he do that? It seems so arbitrary. But no matter. What matters is that, the lock on your cell door is powered by electricity. Which means that... If I manage to destroy the prison's generator. You will be free to leave friend. Wish me luck, Salvadore."

(Y/N) was happy, he can finally escape and meet his friend Salvadore, and maybe figure out a way to escape this "virus" with Charlotte! Speaking of Charlotte, (Y/N) got a letter from Charlotte.

"Are you coming? Please tell me that you'll come... I'm so lonely..."

'Y-Yes! I'm coming! Please wait for m-' Your thoughts were cut off by another letter from her.

"I'm sorry, friend."

You stopped reading, you were afraid.

The next letter was all covered in blood. Your heart skipped a beat, 'N-No way this is her blood right? Y-Yeah... Maybe...'

You hesitantly opened and read the letter, sweat falling from your forehead.

"I'm so very sorry."

.

.

.

A thud was heard.

(Y/N) was on his knees, holding the blood-covered letter, (Y/N) was crying. Warm tears formed and your body tensed up, all he could do was cry. First, it was your happy buddy. Now, it was Charlotte. But... You still have Salvadore! Maybe... Just maybe you two can escape this place! (Y/N) prayed that he'll be safe, always safe. Soon, you got another letter from Salvadore. Your hands were trembling, afraid of what happened to him. You read the letter.

"I have found the generator, friend. I only need to destroy this, and you will be free. Come find me at the entrance friend. I look forward to shaking your hand once more."

'Finally!' You thought, Salvadore was going to save you! You sat down, tapping your foot in anticipation, so you waited. .

.

.

Suddenly, the lights go out. Red emergency lights turned on, and an audible click was heard from your cell door.

Another letter slid in, this time... It was from Dr. Money.

"Oh. Your friend tried to destroy the generator. That didn't really work out too well for him, did it?"

'What..?' You probably misread it, it's hard to see with the red dim lights... You continued reading.

"He got electrocuted. Your friend is dead They all are."

Your eyes widen. 'No... No... No... That's just...' Your emotions went blank, the excruciating pain coming from your chest after reading those words "Your friend is dead."

You didn't cry. You didn't know how to feel, your mind went numb. Your body was trembling in sadness, you continued reading the letter.

"Now your cell door may be open... But what do you think leaving will accomplish? This town is dead, You and I are the last ones here. The backup generator only has energy for those red lights. So the door is unlocked now. Just stay in your cell. I will send someone to fix the generator for you. You will be able to keep playing games on your portable entertainment product, without a care in the world. You will be allowed to do whatever you wish to. On one condition: DO NOT OPEN THAT DOOR.

'Fuck you that's what! I'm sick of this cell you put me in!' You thought out loud. You ran out of your cell and into the dimly lit red hallway, it was empty. There were no other signs of life other than you, you kept wandering around the hallways. Trying to find an exit. You stopped, and you found a metal plate with a button that goes up and down. And that's when it hits you. 'Is this an elevator button?! And the loose wire hanging near my cell door... No way...'

You quickly took the "elevator button" with you and ran back to your cell, no other sound was heard. Only your footsteps were heard.

You arrived at your cell and quickly reconnected the wires back with the "elevator button" you found to the loose wires hanging out.

You doubted this would work, I mean that's just... Stupid..? You don't know... You clicked on the "down" button.

Click

Holy shit it just worked.

The elevator door closed... Your cell door I mean. And you felt like you were going down, gradually going faster the more it goes down. It was getting faster that you started to lose balance!

Whuuzzzzzz .

.

.

Thud

'ouch....?' The elevator completely stopped, you looked around and your bed was in disarray, the table you got from Salvadore was completely broken, and the painting from your happy buddy was on the floor. Still with that creepy smile. And Charlotte's painting...

You forgot about her! You quickly ran out of your cell and tried to find the entrance, adrenaline rushing through your body. You almost fell due to shaking so much, but you can't stop now. 'Too late for that anyway.'

You saw it, you saw the entrance. You ran shakily to it, all you could hear was your heartbeat, you almost choked due to the sheer pressure. You placed your hand on the door, you were so close to being outside. But you were panting and shaking heavily, is the virus really deadly? Will you die from it? Is there a cure for it? What happens next when I open this door? Will I be free or meet the same fate as the rest of the world?

Pushing those thoughts away, I opened the door and was met with the cold breezing night.

'I.. I'm finally outside... C-Charlotte... I-I have to find her..!' You ran aimlessly around the town, it was so dark... So empty... But that doesn't matter to you, what matters now is that you HAVE to find her.

You ran around the streets, knowing that she lives somewhere near your prison, so she must be close.

Your footsteps were so loud it can be heard, maybe because of how empty this town is, you thought...

After some walking, you finally found a pastry shop, you walked closer to it until you can read the sign, "Charlottes pastry shop".

You stopped in your tracks, it's her shop. You breathe heavily, not sure if you keep going or go somewhere else. You also found that the back of the shop was covered in blood.

You were sweating, God knows how you were sweating with this cold, empty night. Building up courage, you opened the door and were met with a metallic smell of blood... And cake.

It smells horrible... But it's too late for you to back up now, you kept going to the back of the shop, glancing at some of the cakes on display while walking.

And there you found it. The blood-stained walls. And an envelope. It was from Charlotte.

You hesitantly picked up the envelope and slowly open the seal, it was covered in blood stains here and there.

You read the letter that was inside the envelope, it was exactly the same writing as hers,

"To my only friend. When you're reading this, I will already be dead. My shop will probably look quite messy. I have decided, that I'll go to the back room to die, so you don't have to look at my corpse. I'm sorry I couldn't be more patient waiting for you. But that doesn't matter now. What matters is that you're here. Against all odds, you managed to escape the prison. I'm aware that this may seem like a bad ending to this story, but you're here. You're here, and I have baked another cake for you. I'm not sure how fresh it will be when you find this, as for I know, you never will, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. I wish you the best of luck.

I love you, Charlotte"

...

You noticed the same Blueberry Pie she made for you, it looked the same as the one she sent to you. The most delicious pie you ever ate in that God-forsaken cell. You sat down and listened to her gramophone, your mind feels empty and your chest hurts. It hurts so much you're not sure how to express this feeling, but you kept it inside.

You put the letter in your pocket and ate the cake. It was as delicious as you know it. But with a much more sadder atmosphere. You eventually finished the cake, and with your hunger satiated and your emotions numb, you went outside and tried to find Salvadore's body and properly bury it, you did the same to Charlotte's bloody corpse. You don't know where Mr. Smiley's body is but you kept his "GameBoy" that he gave to you in memorial of him, finishing your work with 3 mounds, each with their different markings.

Mr. Smiley's tomb with a smiley face formed using small rocks. Salvadore's tomb with a giant rock you found. And lastly, Charlotte's tomb. With a single rose flower you found.

You stood there, motionless, looking at their tombs. You didn't know what to do. You were very tired, it was cold. You were freezing.

(Y/N Pov)

I kept staring at their graveyard, my mind was filled with hate, regret, sadness, and anger.

'This world... Is so unfair...'

"Fuck...." Was all I could muster up, it was my first words after waking up in that cell, kind of stupid.

I snapped out of my trance and went back to the pastry shop, the atmosphere was as dead as everyone here. I had to sleep, not outside though. Too cold.

I sat down and laid my head on the table, remembering all the events that happened, all those letters...

I eventually cried to sleep, figuring out what to do tomorrow.

THE NEXT DAY

"Urrgh... My back hurts.." I woke up while massaging my back, maybe it wasn't a good idea to sleep on a chair...

The sunlight hit my face, it was morning. I enjoyed the heat of the sun, I mean. I got locked up without any access to sunlight so it was a nice feeling.

================================== Author note: Yayyy I can use the funny author note (not really I was after watching a gameplay of presentable liberty so I'm in a big sad) Here's what you look like

(Your only wearing a white shirt and black pants, picture is an example, you can change but you have bags under your eyes ((plot)) ) Art not mine ofc I took it from pintrest :p ==================================

Standing up, I took a stretch, making a few cracking noises. Feeling ready to take on the world... For 5 seconds.

"What do I do now...?" I didn't know what to do. I mean, waking up in a town full of dead people is not pleasant.

I went outside and walked for a bit, thinking about what to do now. The cool breezing air hitting my face, oh gosh it's really chilly here.

"Maybe... I'll travel around... Like Salvadore..." I mutter out loud for anyone to hear, but nobody was there. After a few minutes of walking, I went back to the pastry shop, taking one last look at it before going out.

All the memories. All the pain. All the suffering. All the sadness. It's over. I was no longer inside that cell. I am free.

06:37 AM, SOMEWHERE IN RHODES ISLAND

"I-Is there... something you n-need...?" A specific Guard Operator asked

"Operator Melantha."

Now the named Guard Operator, Melantha. Tensed up.

"I want You and your Reserve Team A4 to investigate a town that has been suspected to have a Reunion base camp. I want you to report on what happened in that town."

"B-But we can't d-do infiltrating-"

"You are not going to infiltrate Reunion." The medical department officer said

"A-ah... T-Then..?"

"For the last couple of days, the town has drastically decreased in population. We think that Reunion might be the cause." She said, putting the paper down

"A-Alright... I-I will prepare m-my team..." Melantha blurted out, she was nervous

"Thank you, Operator Melantha. You are Dismissed."
