Italy is my birth country and the place where my biological family resides. Should I even give them a chance to accept me? It has been so many years since my kidnapping. I am not the same innocent five-year-old princess anymore. My name is feared throughout the Legal World, not just The Underworld. Just the mention of my name gives people chills.
"Clover, Zachary, I need your opinions on something." I enter the living room, where my Underboss and Consigliere are sitting.
"Why does it sound like 'you're gonna kill yourself?'" Clover rolls her eyes at me.
"Because... I kind of want to return." I hesitate, wanting the approval of my two trusted advisors and best friends.
"You want to become The Sicilian Princess again?" Zachary sits up on the couch, giving me his full attention, knowing this is a personal and vital topic.
"Yes, but I wanna ask your guys' opinions first before I fully decide," My head continues running wild.
"Rin, remember what I told you last time?" Zachary looks me straight in the eyes, not fearing me.
I give myself a moment to recall what Zachary had said in the past. "If I ever wanted to return, both of you and Clover would support me," I answer my own question.
Walking over to the kitchen island and grabbing a nice large red apple to eat. "So, Rin, have you decided how to meet your family again yet?" Clover starts talking, destroying the plain silence in the room.
"Clover, didn't I just say I haven't fully decided things yet?" I growl back while giving her a serious glare.
"Sorry," She yields.
"I think the first thing we should do is put The Sicilians under twenty-four-seven surveillance." Zachary started searching the kitchen cabinets and drawers.
"That's actually a good idea." I acknowledged before taking a bite out of my apple.
"Rin, it's already three pm. Don't you have dinner with The Ramos'?" Zachary looks at the clock while grabbing Kinoko no Yama, a mushroom-shaped snack that combines the crunch of a biscuit with a white strawberry chocolate and chocolate cap from the kitchen cabinet.
"Good point." Crap! Crap! I am going to be late for the meeting...
Today would mark the one-year point when Diego asked me to be his girlfriend. Is he ever gonna seal the deal? If he does not, I will ask him to marry me. I love him so much; I don't know what to do without him. He is my King, my root that brought me out of the darkness. Diego was the one who showed me, true love, not love from a guardian, brother, or parent but partnership.
Stepping into フィッシュオンプレート (Fish On Plate), one of the fancy restaurants I own in Toyko. "こんばんは (Good Evening)," Ryūzaki, an older woman in her thirties dressed in a light pink Homongi Kimono, bowed from behind the hostess stand while speaking in Japanese. "マダム S、ゲストが到着しました (Madam S, guests have arrived)." She recognizes me immediately, and being a good hostess, she shows me all the way to the top high-end private VIP room.
Seeing Diego... just stunned me with his strong muscles popping out of his black and white suit with the dark green plain tie complimenting it all together. "Love, you l-l-look amazing!" He stutters for a second, taking my appearance.
It took me so long to fit together the Dark Blue Halter Neckline Shirt and Black HIGH/LOW Skirt to match my signature silver dragon necklace. I am so glad he is mesmerizing.
"You do too, Black." My cheeks blushed pink as Diego wrapped an arm around me, guiding me to the table as he sat me next to him and in front of Diaz.
"こんにちは (Hello)," A young teen dressed in a light pink Homongi Kimono and bowed before introducing herself in Japanese. "Welcome to フィッシュオンプレート (Fish On Plate). My name is Uchida." She switches to English fluently as she clicks her ballpoint pen, ready to accept orders.
"内田、5分で戻ってきて甘辛い醤油漬け枝豆 (Uchida, come back in five minutes with Sweet and Spicy Soy Glazed Edamame)," I ordered an appetizer that Diego and Diaz would willing to eat.
"はい、もちろん奥様 (yes, of course, ma'am)" She does a full bow with the bending of the waist.
Waiting for her to leave, we all stare at the menus, which are written in Japanese and English. "Love, what do you think about the Karaage?" Karaage is a Japanese method of frying chicken.
"Try it, you might like it, and if you don't, I'm getting Yakisoba." I set down the black menu after reviewing the different alcoholic beverages.
Having weird silence in the room, Daiz comes out and asks. "So, Rin, have you found out who has been stealing the recent shipments."
"No, this crew is good enough to avoid basic detection, and another thing I have noticed is that more than just the shipments are going missing." I buried my face in my palms for a second.
"What-" Diego stopped speaking when Uchida opened the door with Sweet and Spicy Soy Glazed Edamame in her hands.
"Are you ready to order?" Uchida clicks the end of the ballpoint pen, placing the tip near her notepad.
"Yakisoba and a bottle of Pinot Noir," I ordered Pinot Noir wine to go with my Yakisoba noodles.
Truthfully tonight, I just want to get drunk and leave all my care behind. But tomorrow, I need to prepare for Italy, and I can't prepare for my trip with a hangover bugging me.
"The Karaage, please." Diego didn't even spare a glaze at Uchida's beauty to my ultimate pleasure.
"I will have the Buta-no-shogayaki," Daiz picked out fried ginger-flavored pork.
"Is that all?" Uchida looked taken aback by all our attitudes toward him.
"Yes," I quickly responded, wanting to return to talking without her in the room.
"Diego, do you remember what I have told you about my involvement within The Mafia World?" I started the conversation slowly, not willing randomly speak out that I am Elma Farfalla Monti, the only daughter of Lorenzo Monti, The Princess Of The Sicilian Mafia.
"Yes, I remember... Are you in trouble?" I see Diego's body language change a complete one-eighty from relaxed, trying to enjoy the evening, to Who Do I Need To Kill Now?
"Rin, don't you forget that you are technically my daughter-in-law." Diaz hinted at something which I have no clue or idea about.
"I am fine. It's just that I am planning on returning back to Italy." My eyes immediately go to Diego, hoping he does not freak out about this sudden change.
Seeing Diego not reacting at all, Diaz steps in and asked, "What do you mean 'returning?'"
"Diego, remember when I told you my birth name." I closed my eyes for a second, pushing unwanted memories from resurfacing.
'Малко момиче (Little Girl), Малко момиче (Little Girl), what's your name?' The light from the hallway enters my cold, disgusting, pitch-black cell, hitting my face and making my eyes squint. Meanwhile, this new tall male figure walked in as I instinctively backed up all the way to the farthest corner.
'You better answer me!' His eyebrow twitched in annoyance, grabbing my chin with his big middle and index fingers forcing me to look at his cold green-brown eyes.
'E-Elma,' I shivered in fear, crying my eyes out.
"Elma," Diego answers, snapping me out of my memory relapse.
Finding Diego with a concerned face and a hand on my shoulder. "Hey, are you ok?" He whispers into my ear.
"I'm fine," I mouthed back before Diego removed his hand.
Taking a deep breath in. "Well, before I turn eighteen. I want to spend time with my biological family. I left twelve years ago."
'Dom, Ally, guarda (Dom, Ally, Look)!' I excitedly showed off the cartwheel that I just master to two of my brothers.
'Wow, è stato incredibile, Munchkin (Wow, that was amazing, Munchkin).' Alonso praised me, picked me up, and spun in circles by my waist.
"The family you were kidnapped from." Diego enlightens the fact that still haunts me. "Are you sure you are ready for this?" My King, looked more stressed and nervous than I.
"I do, Diego. I want to regain my crown." My nails dug into my fits as I pounded it down on the table.
"Crown?" Diaz and Diego, at the same time, questioned.
Here goes nothing, Elma... "I was born into The Sicilian Mafia." There was so much shock written that they didn't even react at first.
"Rin-"
"My last name is Monti." I take another deep breath. "My name is Elma Farfalla Monti, the only daughter of Lorenzo Monti, The Princess Of The Sicilian Mafia." I finished with raging confidence that could literally overpower Daiz.
Seeing Diaz smile and chuckle simultaneously took me completely off guard. "I am glad you finally told us. You know, at first when Diego introduced you as his girlfriend. I thought you were the daughter of one of our enemies." Diaz amused smile as he relayed his first impressions of me.
"Did I really make that impression?" I scratch my neck, and Diego immediately slaps my hand away and glares at me.
"You did," Diego chucked too.
"Oops!" Nice going, Elma. You have really outdone yourself this time, and the worst part is you have done it to your boyfriend's father and your business partner.
"Hijo, es ahora o nunca." Daiz speaks up, gesturing something to Diego in his native language.
Man, I wish I knew Spanish now. "Is there something wrong?" I expressed verbally, getting very worried about what was beyond my control.
Now seeing Diego get up from his seat. "Sakai Rin, otherwise known as Elma Monti, will you marry me, Diego Ramos?" My King was on his knee with a small box opened containing a sliver-looking ring.
Shouting up from my seat, wrapping my arms around Diego. "Yes!" I kissed my Love passionately, pulling back. "I Love You So Much, Diego Ramos!" He placed the ring on my right ring finger.
After receiving my ring and taking a few bits of my Yakisoba, my mind finally processed that my ring was not a traditional engagement ring with expensive gems.
"Um, Diego?" I set my chopsticks down.
"Is there something wrong?" He turned his attention to me, attempting to read what was wrong.
"The ring..." Diego's eyes go into a panic. "There is nothing wrong, Diego." I had to reassure him so he does not jump into the rabbit hole. "It's just I have noticed it's not a traditional one with jewels," I asked, wanting to know how he came to choose this ring for me.
"I just thought you prefer one without since your tastes are simple, and I also consider our line of work thinking that a jewel would get in the way." Wow, Diego really spent time shopping for a ring. "The band is made of Platinum. I have already engraved my family's crest, and when we get married, I was thinking about engraving your symbol... or now your family's crest." He finishes the nervous rant, looking for approval from me.
Chucking to his antics, he froze. "You know you're cute when you start ranting."
"Rin, you freaked me out!" Diego sighs, massaging his brow.
"Sorry, Black."
"You know you two are perfect for each other," Daiz speaks up after seeing our back and forth.
"¡Padre!"
"Oh, Diego... Will you move to Italy with me?"
"You know, originally, I was gonna move to Japan, but Italy works." Diego
"But aren't-"
"Rin, Diego is not my first son." Diaz
"And yesterday, Padre had promoted me to the liaison between The Dragons and Spanish." Diego
"Liaison?" I had to ask, forgetting what that English word meant.
"The person who communicates between two groups or organizations, Rin." Diego clarified, not blaming me for not understanding.
"Oh..."
"It's ok; English is a hard language." Diaz
"Rin, I know we kinda talked a little bit about this, but when are you gonna show your face to The Underworld?" Diego
Originally before The Great Underworld Turbulence, The Underworld consisted of Clans, not Mafias. These days many people think The Underworld and The Mafia World are different when in reality, they're using an old term that most assassins and non-mafia related people use to segregate themselves from The Clans or the modern term, Mafias.
"My eighteenth birthday; I'm gonna officially retire as an assassin and reveal my face."
"Why are you retiring?" Diego
"It's because when I am officially an adult. I have plans to control BlackGuard and Nova legally. And because of my return as a Monti, I need time for my family too."
"That makes sense; when I was sixteen, I had to choose between business and becoming a lawyer."
"Padre, you wanted to be a lawyer?" Diego
"I did," Diaz
"So, you choose your family."
There is a rule between all mafias that you had to be sixteen and over to join or, in other words, take the omega oath, but that never stops certain mafias from using young children. The only reason it's sixteen and not eighteen is becuse 30% of most new mafia members are around the ages of sixteen to eighteen. Although the sixteen and overrule applies to the different mafias, there is one exception, which is made for the children of The Don or Donna, allowing them to raise a successor.
Back when I was ten, during the time Natsue found me. I made an offer to join The Japanese Mafia, which in terms meant Natsue adopting me to be his child so I could swear my loyalty. At first, Natsue was unconvinced, but after realizing I was determined to get my revenge with or without him. He accepted wanting to raise me the right way after my trauma.
"Your correct, but my dream was to become a lawyer versus my Padre, who wanted me to be his heir." Diaz had an affiliative smile, sharing a dream he once had.
"What made your choice?" Diego showed curiously, being fully engaged in the story, folding his hands above the table.
"The day your Aunt Juana died that day made my eyes open to realize that I need the power to protect your Mama, Diego." My father-in-law showed an expression of grief for the loss of this sister.
I understand what it means to lose something you love dearly. Even if I never truly lost them, it hurts like hell. What really gets me is that Diaz Ramos, The 39th Don Of The Spanish Mafia, wanted to be a lawyer nevertheless.
"Gracias, Padre, por compartir." Diego speaks in Spanish, which annoyed me since I can only understand: Italian, English, Japanese, German, and Bulgarian.
"Of course, hijo, the past/history will help guide you in the future." Daiz held a smile of pride for his second son, Diego.
"Hm," I cleared my throat, hinting to Diego I what to know what he said.
"I said, 'Thank you, Father, for sharing.'" My King whispered to me with a teasing smile.
Oh, Diego, you don't know how much I love you. I just hope you don't betray me...
