"Elma, You Need To Breathe." Dominic held me around the torso, preventing me from killing Bozhidar. As the rest of them just stood there frozen, seeing my deadly side emerge. Destroying the sweet innocent princess image I have been playing in front of them.
Finally calming down my nerves, I took charge of the situation exactly like my training has entailed. Knowing my family's past history from my disappearance. They are going to be ruthless, scaring the crap out of the underworld just like twelve years ago.
The Monti Family holds the values of family and loyalty to the core, unlike the other mafia families. When someone gets in the way, they have no fear of getting rid of them. Many people have avoided the bloodline of The Monti's for this purpose only.
Oh, Crap! I am really in deep trouble now... They all saw me kill those two men with no effort or hesitation. Going inside the house, I attempted to head straight to my room, but a pair of hands went on my shoulder. "Neonata!" Dad called me Baby-Girl as Mateo placed me on the couch between him and his twin.
Why am I freaking out? They are my family... will they force me to tell them what happened twelve years ago? I don't know what will happen, but they will not let it go this time. What could I tell them?
"Elma, my Neonata, it's time you learn about the real family business." You could feel the air in the room instantly change to fear, almost like they were afraid of me disappearing again from their lives or me rejecting them.
Finally, They Have The Damn Guts To Tell Me The Truth! I don't know how much longer I could act like I don't know Italian. It's literally the language I grew up speaking.
"We are The Sicilian Mafia, and I am The Don..."
"Sapete, famiglia, non sono un idiota (You know, family, I'm not an idiot)." I spoke in my native tongue, shocking everyone but Dominic, the brother who found out earlier.
"Che diavolo (What the Hell)!" Mateo shoots up, swearing in Italian.
"Devi prendermi in giro (You must be kidding me)!" Alonso rubs his temples.
"H-ow, did you find out?" Dad's voice sounded like a cricket.
A devilish grin mysteriously appears across my face. "Am I not supposed to know who The Monti Family is?" I pulled out my hidden knife and started fidgeting with it. "There is a reason why The Sicilian Mafia is still prosperous and gaining two new allies." They were completely stunned by my speech.
Clap. Clap. I heard someone clapping their hands from the hallway. "You are definitely my granddaughter and a Monti Leader." The old rusty voice comes out and looks exactly like Old Man from Germany but older.
"Old Man?" I questioned, hoping he was the same Old Man from my adventures.
He has given me so much advice as The Sixtieth Don Of The Sicilian Mafia. Many times I have suspected he knew I was his granddaughter, but even the moment it came up, he left it alone. I guess, thinking back to those moments, he could tell that I was not ready to return. But I was also in the current mess of integrating The Japanese and German Mafias.
"How are you doing, Elma?" Nonno smiles, opening his arms for a hug unexpectedly.
"I'm good, but how is your leg?" I gestured playfully toward him since it had been a year.
"It would have been better if you didn't shoot me," Nonno grumbles, creating a scene.
"You Did What!"
"Twin, did I hear our Principessa say she shot Nonno?" Mateo attempts to whisper but fails.
"Did you seriously forget you almost ran into a building that exploited seconds after I shot you?" I scowled at him like he was a child and not my Nonno.
"Nope!" He huffs like a proud mythical dragon, trying to cover up the fact he forgot.
"Can someone tell me what just happened?" The silent Dominic speaks up in shock watching Nonno being playful with me like we know each forever.
"Oh yeah, your still here..." I turn around, scratching my head with a cheeky grin.
"Care to explain?" Dad keeps his stern face, waiting for an explanation.
"Son, Elma is the girl who saved me a few years back in Germany." Nonno changed back to his hard-core demeanor.
"Wait, so you're the assassin!" Mateo shouts out while receiving a glare from the majority in the room.
"Nonno, did you tell them an assassin saved you?" I grinned out, wanting to throw knives at him.
"I might of...?" Nonno hesitated to feel the tip of my dangerous demeanor.
R-I-N-G! R-I-N-G! My phone goes off, interrupting and gathering the attention of the room. Knowing the call had to be important since Caleb had overridden the silent mood. "Speak!"
"We have found Elio's position and are preparing to retrieve him." Caleb clocked a gun in the background.
"Good! Make sure he gets immediate medical attention." I paused for a second and switched to Japanese. "とカレブ、少なくとも2人のブルガリア人を明日のために生かしておくことを忘れないように (And Caleb, remember to keep at least two Bulgarians alive for tomorrow)." My tune was playful but had a hidden deadliness only a few understood.
"Of Course, Donna. Elio will return to your side soon." Caleb assured me before ending the call.
Now off, I realized my whole family just looked at me weirdly for some reason. Did they forget I am fluent in Japanese? "Did you guys forget I am fluent in Japanese too?"
"No, we didn't, Principessa." Ricco took charge and spoke.
"Is there something wrong then?" I started being worried that another bad thing had just happened.
"Neonata, can you tell us honestly how many languages you speak?" Dad called my Baby-Girl again which some reason satisfied me.
"Four but technically five since it's been years." I shrug like it's no big deal forgetting many people have trouble just learning a second language.
"So, if I remember right. You speak English, Japanese, German, Bulgarian, and Italian?" Romeo counts out on his fingers, almost like he is trying to recall a list.
"Yes, but I am still learning German and super rusty on Bulgarian." I smiled, waiting to attach myself to Dominic like a koala.
"Sorella, I'm curious why you are learning German. I understand you lived in Japan for a while, but..." I raised my hand, stopping Mateo's sentence.
"Originally, I was only speaking Bulgarian and Italian." I close my eyes and take a deep breath in, pushing all the negative memories away. "Eventually, because of my line of work. Japanese, English, and German became required if I wanted to run my empire smoothly without requiring a translator." If only they knew that my worst language is English. Even today, I have trouble spelling, understanding 'fancy words,' and pronunciations. I am just lucky that I am not speaking in broken English anymore.
"Empire?"
"Yes, my empire in which due time, you will put the puzzle pieces together, famiglia (family)." I leave them stumped except Nonno since that old man already knows. Luckily he didn't spill the beans, to my relief, but he is still my Nonno, and if I never say it, he will eventually.
"Elma, do you not trust us yet?" Romeo looks even more hurt, asking out loud.
"Of course, I trust you guys! I'm just waiting until I become an adult to expose my empire! And in the meantime, we can play my game." I got over-excited while Nonno looked at me with horror knowing the different types of games I love to play.
"Twin, are we sure our Sorella is seventeen?" Mateo thinks he is whispering again.
"You're right; that is a good question. We have been outsmarted multiple times already." Romeo lays down the simple facts.
R-I-N-G! R-I-N-G! My phone goes off again, stopping the chatter in the room. "Speak!"
"Aloïs, Fünfzehnter, Bayern, Deutschland, Dalton (Aloïs, fifteenth, Bavaria, Germany, Dalton)." The hesitant voice says the code that shares his identity with me. Aloïs, part of the fifteenth Bavaria, Germany unit, and under the command of Caleb Dalton.
If I hadn't enabled the coded messages when soldiers call me, I would have no clue who they were.
"Weitermachen (Continue)," I switched to German.
"Donna, Elio Monti, hat sich behandeln lassen, bringt siebzehnhundert vorbei (Donna, Elio Monti, has received treatment, drop off seventeen hundred)." Aloïs briefs me efficiently before I handed up.
Knowing that Elio is safe in my custody, I can finally relax and not worry about him getting tortured or, even worse, killed.
