Yes! Monica had just informed me that my father and Dominic had just decided to get their princess back this evening. It's been five days since my spy told Dad where I was. At first, I thought they were not going to come for me and that they felt it safer to watch me from a distance.
Now being me, I could not help watching the clock, but then I got bored. So I decided to bake a Japanese dessert called Ichigo Daifuku, a strawberry-flavored daifuku consisting of a ripe strawberry coated in sweet red bean paste wrapped in a layer of mochi. It takes about twenty-five minutes to make and creates a batch of ten. The recipe requires a one-third cup of glutinous rice flour, one tablespoon of sugar, four tablespoons of anko (red bean paste), and katakuriko (starch).
After looking through my kitchen cabinets, I realized I needed Anko and Katakuriko to bake the Daifuku. So I quickly ran to the grocery store with Mila wearing her service vest. While at the grocery store, we grabbed what's needed for the Daifuku but also some peanut butter dog treats.
Once we returned back to my apartment. I started working on three batches of Ichigo Daifuku. The first two batches are intended for my family, and the third is for work. I'm only making some for work to cover the real reason I knew they were coming. An hour and fifteen minutes to bake thirty Ichigo Daifuku, and it's still early dinner time. It takes them forever to get here because it's only an hour and fifteen minutes from my apartment to The Monti Mansion.
Right now, I think I'm gonna act like they got the wrong apartment. I don't want them to know that I had planned for them to be here. D-i-n-g, D-o-n-g, my apartment doorbell goes off, and Mila starts barking at the door. Now quickly out of excitement, I yell, "C-O-M-I-N-G!" Now I opened the door with Mila growling right beside me. There was my Father, Dominic, and Elio. Father and Dominic were in their professional black suits. Vs. Elio's with his casual ripped jeans and baggy gray sweater.
"Hi, my name is Lorenzo Monti, and these are my sons, Dominic and Elio." The older male, my father, said without fear of Mila growling at him.
"Hi, I'm Elma. Now, if you don't mind. Read the signs next time, and apartment B is to the right." I stood my ground and pointed to my neighbor's Aldo apartment before attempting to slam the door shut until a nice shiny black dress shoe stopped it.
"We are at apartment A, where Elma Edwards lives?" My eldest brother speaks up from behind my father.
Now to escalate things. I stepped back, letting Mila go in front of me. "ミララウドノーアタック (Mila Loud No Attack)!" I commanded Mila in Japanese, which made the three family members in front of me raise their eyebrows.
"Please just look at this." My father calmly stated as he held some documents towards me.
I grab them and take a quick moment to glance at the documents knowing what they are. Custody papers making Lorenzo Monti my legal guardian and the DNA test showing that he is my birth father. "ミラ・スニフ、ノー・スレット (Mila Sniff, No Threat)!" I command, letting my muscles relax and visible guard down while keeping a hidden guard. At first, Elio steps back with a worried face before I say, "She just gonna smell you." I roll my eyes at him; the others see it but ignore it.
"Oh," Elio said as his face softened in relief to not be bitten. How is he the son of a Don?
"Thank you, Neonata! For hearing us out." My father said with a happy smile on his face. I can't believe I made The Don Of The Sicilian Mafia smile at me, but it's also not really a surprise since he is my father.
Once I had My Father, Dominic, and Elio settled in the living, I brought a plate of
Ichigo Daifuku. "U-m, these are some Ichigo Daifuku that I made today."
Just looking around the room, everyone seems to have a smile when trying the Daifuku. "Farfalla? do you know why we are here today?" Dominic spoke in a serious but soft voice that I had never heard from him.
"I have a pretty good idea." I held the custody papers as I sat across from my father, who was sitting next to his sons on the couch.
"Then you know that you're only seventeen, living without a guardian." My eldest brother just says it bluntly, stating the obvious.
"Yes," I responded, keeping eye contact with him.
"How much time do you need?" My father finally spoke up.
"Just give me an hour; I haven't unpacked anything yet from my move." I stand up, brushing off the crumbs from eating two Daifuku.
"ミラ、留まって (Mila, stay)!" I ordered in Japanese, making my two brothers and father realize that I speak more than one language.
"How many languages do you speak?" Elio, my youngest older brother, asked with curiosity all over his face.
"I am fluent in English and Japanese. But can only speak in German." Technically, I am fluent in four but am super rusty in Bulgarian, and I don't want them to know I'm fluent in Italian. The Bulgarian came from the five years of being held by The Bulgarian Mafia. The German and Japanese, of course, came from my mafia. Instantly when they heard Bulgarian, all three had upset faces, which Dominic and my father quickly masked up.
"Sorella, why did you learn Bulgarian?" Elio just lets out, getting a glare from Father and Dominic. Guessing Elio is wondering if I remembered what happened that night.
"It's ok," I paused for a moment as my muscles tensed up. "I lived in Bulgarian for five years, which I don't remember much since I was young. But from then on, I have lived all over." My shoulders tense up, realizing that I had told them the truth and then my fake cover-up story.
"Cool, Sorella! Personally, I have been to six different countries, but Dominic and Dad here have been all over." Elio lightens the mood making all of us smile with his bubby mood.
D-i-n-g D-o-n-g, my apartment bell goes off. Making me remember that Clover and Caleb were gonna stay overnight with me. We were gonna work on finding the spy tonight. "Damit!" I swore out loud.
"Language!" All three of them spoke at the same time.
"I hope you don't mind meeting my friends; I completely forgot they're coming tonight." I hesitate, knowing if anything goes wrong. It's Dragons against Sicilians with me in the middle.
"It's perfectly fine, Principessa!" My father gives me a reassuring look that I don't really trust.
Now the doorbell goes off again, D-i-n-g D-o-n-g. "Thank you, and I will be there for just a minute." I quickly race to the door.
"私の家族はここにいます、彼らは私が誰であるかを知りません (My family is here, they don't know who I am)," I say harshly, making Clover and Caleb tremble a little bit.
"はい、ドナ (Yes, Donna)!" They both reply back, earning a death glare from me.
"Family, this is Clover and Caleb," I said with a lot of hesitation as we entered my living room.
"Mr. Monti." Clover grinds out, taking a step forward.
Then Dad stands up from his seat and grinds out, "Miss. Heart."
For a few minutes, they both do a stare out until, "クローバー、それで十分です (Clover, that's enough)." I voiced out strongly, making another 'red flag' with my family.
"はい、奥様 (Yes, ma'am)." Clover finally stops the glare with Dad.
Right now, the tension in the room is still high because just recently, one of my members was stupid and pissed off at 'My Family.' That stupid member misinterpreted something, ending up getting an Italian killed. "カレブ、ファイルを持ってきた (Caleb, did you bring the files)?" I asked, making sure that he didn't leave with them.
"ここ (Here)!" Caleb ruffles through his black backpack and pulls out a dark gray pocket folder. This evening, we were supposed to review files containing how to get The Sicilian Mafia, aka 'My Family,' to agree on an alliance.
"カレブ、あなたは最高です! 私はあなたなしで生きていけるかどうか本当にわかりません (Caleb, you are the best! I really don't know if I can live without you)." I praise my assistant for all his help in Japanese.
Then Dominic clears his throat and says, "English?" Making me realize I'm doing it again, forgetting what language I'm speaking.
"Sorry. I almost forgot you guys were here," I mumbled out loud enough for everyone to hear. Getting a few chuckles while I couldn't help blushing for some reason.
"It's ok, Principessa!" Dad reassured me as he picked up another delicious Daifuku.
"Um, Elma?" Clover speaks up, getting all the attention.
"Yes, Clover?" I respond back, having my confused face on.
"Me and Caleb will be going now. I hope those files help." Clover says before leaving with Caleb.
"Yes, these will indeed help speed up the process." I thanked them both as I handed them some Ichigo Daifuku to go.
Once those two left, it was quiet as we all sat in the living room. Please refrain from bringing up how I know Clover and Caleb. Let's discuss something else so it's not at the top of their minds. "I Want To Make Something Clear." I sat up straight and used my strong business voice but not my evil, intimidating tone.
"Ok?" Dad responded back in a worried tone.
"I Will Not Drop My Current Life Just Because These Papers Say You're. My. Dad. And Legal Guardian," I said, pointing my finger at them with exploding confidence. Which they took as a complete shock and pride. Then after a second of them staring at me, I realized that I had projected too much of my aura onto them.
"And we will respect that," Dad yelled to me unexpectedly. Personally, I thought there was gonna be more of a battle.
"Thank You, Dad!" I exclaimed, giving him a big hug which surprised him.
"Oh, Sorella? You should know that you have four more older brothers." Elio just blurts out like it's nothing for a girl to have six older brothers.
"That means I have six brothers." I get a head nod back confirming. Ok, Elma. Make this realistic enough. "Wait! I have SIX OLDER BROTHERS!" I screamed, not caring about their eardrums.
"You know it isn't bad. It can get chaotic sometimes, but I won't worry about it, sorellina!" Dominic just comments, coming over to me and ruffling my hair.
Now I slap his hand away and kick him in the shin, saying, "Hey, Watch The Hair, Idiot!"
"Hey, what was that for?" Dominic goes into defense mode.
"My Hair!" I bit back at my eldest brother crossing my arms and putting my pufferfish face on.
Then I hear some aww from my family. How do they think I am cute? I am mad. "Ok, you two. It's already past dinner, and it takes an hour to get back." Dad said while looking at his watch.
"Got It, papà! Elio, do you wanna help me?" I asked my youngest older brother if he wanted to hang out with me.
"Of Course, Sorella!" Elio cheerfully accepted my offer.
"ミラ・リリース (Mila Release)," I ordered in Japanese, letting Mila off her command.
"Come on, brother. We don't have all evening." I dragged Elio by the arm to my room, with Mila following us to my bedroom.
