Sunlight penetrated through the sheer curtains making the beautiful renaissance inspired paintings pop out from the walls in the hallway. Alexander looked down at me again, making me hide into his blouse.
We walked further down the hallway before walking up a set of stairs I hadn't seen yet. Dark oak doors lined the walls with a beige runner on the floor, plants decorated the place. My train of thoughts stopped when Alexander pushed a door open with his foot. I stiffened slightly when I saw Nico sitting behind a desk, talking to a man with blonde hair. Why are all Italian dudes hot, I groaned internally. Nico's gaze turned darker with the minute as he continued talking to the man.
His gaze seemed to soften when his eyes fell on me, giving me a sly smirk as well. "Giovanni, ci sentiamo dopo. Magari la prossima volta puoi portare Lilith con te." The man, Giovanni, chuckled, brushing invisible lint from his sleeve as he stepped toward us. My pulse ticked up as his gaze settled on me, assessing. "È carina, Alex, mhm?" His voice was smooth, but his gaze made my skin crawl. Alexander's hand tightened on my waist.
"Funny," Giovanni mused, his fingers brushing over the crown of my head. I tensed, shifting uncomfortably in Alexander's hold. He gave Nico a nod before striding out of the room.
"Did you sleep well, sweetheart?" I hesitated. My mouth was still restrained, the gag digging into my cheeks, making speech impossible. I nodded, my eyes flicking downward.
Nico's fingers drummed lazily against the armrest. "I can't hear you. Speak up." I made a soft, muffled sound, something between a hum and a gurgle. The heat in my cheeks had nothing to do with embarrassment and everything to do with frustration. He laughed, the sound low and amused. "That's better." His attention shifted back to Alexander. "Lei è la nostra piccola bambina." Stupid pricks.
I barely had time to react before I was lifted down into Nico's lap. The movement was seamless, like I was weightless, something to be passed around. My heart stuttered in protest as Nico's arm curled around my waist, holding me tightly. His fingers slid down my thighs, giving them a slight squeeze before keeping them there.
"Cas and I are going out, we got a hint about the Irish" Alexander stated, rolling the sleeves of his blouse up. Their tattoos were beautiful.
Nico's grip on my thigh tightened slightly, his fingers pressing into the fabric of my jeans. He didn't look at Alexander, his focus solely on me. "Do what you need to," he said, voice smooth but heavy with something unspoken. "Make sure they remember who they're fucking with." What in gods name did they do for a living cause for sure shooting people isn't normal right?
Alexander nodded and left, shutting the door behind him. Silence filled the room, thick and suffocating. Nico's hand remained on my thigh, his thumb stroking slow, deliberate circles. My breathing felt too loud in the quiet room.
"You bit me," he finally said. His voice was soft, too soft. "That wasn't very smart, piccola."I stiffened, my mind screaming at me to move, to pull away. But I stayed frozen, the weight of his hand keeping me still. His other hand lifted, fingers tilting my chin up, forcing me to meet his gaze. "What should I do with you?" I shook my head, my breath hitching against the gag still strapped around my mouth.
Nico hummed in amusement, his thumb grazing over the edge of the leather. Then, with slow precision, he reached behind my head and unbuckled it. The moment it loosened, I sucked in a deep breath, relishing the relief in my aching jaw. "Say thank you," he instructed.
I hesitated for half a second too long. His fingers curled in one of my ponytails, pulling it just enough to send a warning.
"...Thank you," I whispered, my voice hoarse.
He smirked, satisfied. "Good girl." He said removing his grip from my hair. My stomach twisted at the praise, but before I could react, he shifted me off his lap, putting me down onto the couch beside the desk "Stay put," he ordered, standing to his full height. I forced myself to nod, curling my knees into my chest. He gave me a small glare "I w-will" I stuttered.
He rolled his sleeves up as he moved around his desk, opening one of his drawers. As he pulled out a black sleek knife my breath hitched, he twirled it around his fingers before walking over to the couch I was sitting on "afraid, sweetheart?" He gave a small chuckle.
I shook my head quickly but the hammering in my chest seemed to spill the lie. He chuckled, leaning down so we were eye level. "Relax, piccola," he murmured, pressing the cool flat side of the blade against my cheek. The contrast against my warm skin sent a shudder through me. "If I wanted to hurt you, I already would have."
The sharp edge dragged lightly, tracing down my jaw, following the curve of my throat. My pulse pounded under it. His free hand curled around my waist, pulling me onto his lap. My back pressed against his chest, and I could feel every shift of his breathing. His cologne was strong and it didn't help to calm down. The knife ghosted down my collarbone, over the fabric of my sweater, stopping just above my ribs.
"Be still," he murmured. I obeyed, barely daring to breathe.
His grip on my waist tightened as the tip of the knife dipped lower, slipping just under the hem of my sweater. A soft gasp left my lips before I could stop it. The knife nicked slightly into my skin, I felt some liquid dripping down my stomach. Nico smirked against my ear. "Sensitive?" He whisper, his warm breath fanning my ear.
I clenched my jaw, refusing to answer. The blade trailed higher again slipping under the neckline of my sweater, pressing against the delicate skin just above my heart.
"You're so delicate," he murmured, his voice full of something unreadable. "It almost makes me want to be careful with you."
Almost.
I squeezed my eyes shut, my hands gripping the fabric of his pants tightly as if that would keep me grounded. The cold metal dragged upward, pressing lightly against my throat again. His lips brushed against my temple as he whispered, "But you don't like it when I'm careful, do you?" A shiver ran through me. And Nico just chuckled.
I stayed still, my breath shallow as Nico pressed the knife just beneath my jaw. "Not answering, piccola?" he murmured, dragging the blade back down, tracing the hollow of my throat. I swallowed hard. "I—"
The sharp edge lifted from my skin, and suddenly, his fingers gripped my chin, tilting my face up toward his. "What did I say about responding verbally Jules, mhm?" I nodded slightly, my lips parting to speak, but before I could get a word out, His grip on my waist tightened just slightly as he leaned in closer, his lips brushing my ear.
"Do I scare you?"
I forced myself to shake my head.
"Liar."
The blade lifted, pressing just under my chin again, tilting my head up. His dark eyes met mine, and I knew he could feel my pulse racing beneath the cold steel. But his hand—his hand stayed firm on my jaw, his thumb stroking lazily over my bottom lip.
"You should be scared of me," he murmured, voice quieter now, but no less dangerous.
I swallowed, my lips parting slightly as I searched his face. A mistake. Because he saw something in my expression that made his smirk deepen, his fingers tightening just slightly on my chin.
"You like this more than you let on, don't you?"
I shook my head quickly, my breath hitching. "No, I—" He laughed softly, cutting me off. "That little gasp earlier said otherwise." Heat crawled up my neck. My body betrayed me in ways I didn't understand, and Nico was too damn good at reading it. His free hand slid from my waist to the back of my neck, holding me still. I barely had time to process it before his lips brushed against my temple, slow and deliberate.
"Don't make me gag you again, piccola," he whispered, his breath warm against my skin.
