chapter 22 | bullets

"what doesn't kill me better run"

-unknown

Blake POV

Getting from the 3rd floor back to -4 was quite a challenge, but nothing too serious. It was achievable. I was now sitting in front of the door that led to the room from the other side of the double sided mirror. My plan was simple.

Deal with everyone from the other side of the door. (I counted 5 people on the security camera in the control room but could have changed in the 30 minutes it took me to get here) Get Aria. (Deal with Luca in the process if it's necessary) Get to the car. Get the hell out of here.

Simple.

I take another deep breath and open the door. 10 pairs of eyes immediately turn to me.

Dammit. It's double the number of people I initially expected. Monique isn't in the room. Lucky for her because she would have ended up dead.

I deal with the two ones closest to me. I grab the knife from the one on my left side and stab him in his leg. While I close the door so no sound gets out of this room. I use my legs to trip the one on my right and he falls to the floor. I kick his diaphragm and he starts coughing, a kick with the pistol at the back of his neck and he's out cold. I grab the other one's head and hit it against the wall, leaving him unconscious as well.

Afterwards it's a moment of silence. I make eye contact with the rest. They aren't agents I personally know. But before I get to think about my next step I hear Luca's voice coming from the other room. And I look through the double sided mirror.

I freeze. The oxygen leaves my lungs and my mind goes blank.

On the other side of the mirror is Luca, standing across from Aria at a small table. Luca is saying something and Aria is looking with the most dead expression in the mirror. There's no emotion on her face and her eyes are hollow. But the lower half of her face is filled with blood and my shirt, that is still on her, is filled with blood. Fresh blood. Her blood.

Change of plans. All these agents here are dead. I just wanted to knock them out but they clearly let this happen to Aria and they deserve death. She's still handcuffed to the table, no way to defend herself.

"Come on Aria, we both know that deep down you want to work with me" Luca says as he leans in.

I don't stay to think. Instincts kick in. I grab the nearest gun and shoot 3 agents right in the heart before the others start shooting at me and I'm forced to hide under the nearest desk. Unlike me these people shoot aimlessly making bullets ricochet everywhere. I crouch down trying to defend myself as best as I can. I feel a small pain in my abdomen but ignore it.

Amateurs. They can easily hurt themselves by shooting like this. After using some of their ammo their shooting stops.

My turn motherfuckers.

I don't wait for them to start shooting again. I empty my gun towards their side of the room making every bullet count. After I stop I hear 5 bodies fall to the floor. I wait a couple more breaths to make sure they're all down and I stand up. This room is soundproof but it's just a matter of time until someone comes to check or looks at the security cameras.

The room looks like a butcher's workshop.

I look over at Aria again. Trying to come up with a plan. My adrenaline is at an all time high and I'm breathing heavily.

But my thoughts interrupt again when I see Luca punch Aria. It takes all self control to not burst in there.

Blake focus. If you storm in there right now without a plan you're endangering yourself and Aria. Deep breath in.

I start the calming breathing exercises I was taught while looking around the room for something to trigger a plan. My eyes stop when they land on a phone.

At least MI6 was good at one thing. Making us memorize all the phone numbers of the ones you worked closely with. And considering my history with Luca I know his phone number by hard.

I wipe my hands on my sweatpants. The same I have on since I dressed god knows when in my apartment, I'm definitely going to get rid of these with the first opportunity, and dial Luca's number.

I look at him through the mirror as he picks up the phone and holds it to his ear.

"Hello, Luca" I greet in a taunting voice.

I see him freeze. "Blake"

Aria visibly relaxes when Luca says my name and I can't help but feel a smile forming on my lips.

Considering the situation it's really stupid of me to let emotions get in my way right now.

"I see you've been busy hurting a defenseless girl, I guess old habits do die hard"

He whips around, first looking at the security camera then staring at me through the mirror.

"Whatever you're up to Blake it won't work"

I just chuckle in return, while I start searching for the keys to the interrogation room.

"You should be home by now, what will Monique say when she finds out you disobey direct orders"

I don't respond. Silence has always pissed him off more than any insult I could come up with. After I find the keys I start searching for a gun that still has bullets. Death would be too good for Luca but it wouldn't hurt to have a back up plan.

Luca lets out a frustrated sigh and brushes a hand through his hair. "Okay, Blake you don't have to talk but you can listen to Aria's pleas for mercy." He threatens with a sick satisfaction.

I whip my head towards the mirror. He puts the phone on the table and before Aria could even blink he punched her again. Her head whips to the side and she starts coughing up blood.

I see red. I secured the last two guns to my body and entered the room just as Luca was about to punch her again.

His hand stops mid air. And he looks at me clearly surprised. He didn't expect me to get here so soon.

I point a loaded gun towards him.

"You know how this works. Untie her and step back"

I knew he wouldn't do that and I also knew what he would do next. I basically taught him everything he knows.

Luca sneers. And lunges. I was prepared. I moved to the side but apparently my brain was faster than my body because he managed to grab my forearm and slam me against the wall. The gun flies from my hands.

Shit. What the fuck just happened.

I let out a groan of pain. Luca produces a knife out of thin air and tries to jab it in my abdomen but I catch it at the last second and twist his hand so it falls to the floor.

"Fuck you Blake, for always ruining everything"

He grabs me by my shirt again and slams me aginst the wall, losing his balance for a second in the process. I use that window to push us both forward, him landing on his back, me landing on top of him. I start sending punches towards his face but a sharp pain in my abdomen stops my attack and Luca get's the upper hand again. Pushing me off with his legs, taking the knife from the floor and thrusting it towards my neck. I grab his hand at the last second and try to keep it away from my throat. But he's pushing down with his entire body weight and the blade is inching closer to my skin.

Luca has a psychotic smile on his face. "I can't believe I'm the one who finally kills the great agent Blake'' he grits out.

My lungs are giving out and my hands start sweating.

This is not happening. This is Luca for fucks sake. I can't die by Luca's hands. As I gather my strength to try another attempt at pushing him off. I hear a gun cocking. And by the widened of Luca's eyes I bet he's heard it too.

"And I can't believe I'm the one who gets to kill your sorry ass" I hear Aria's ragged voice coming from behind Luca. And I swear she sounded like an angel in that moment. My angel. "Like honestly, agent Luca, kind of embarrassing for you" she mocked him.

I feel the pressure on the blade lessen and the sound of metal clashing to the floor. Luca has his hands raised.

"Go on, don't be shy. Stand up. Hands where I can see them." Aria's voice has more confidence but it's still slightly shaking.

Luca is breathing hard. Like he's calculating if he should jump her or not. But before he gets to make a decision I kick his kneecap and he falls to the floor with a yelp, his leg at an awkward angle. I crawl over to him, grab his shirt and push his head against the concrete one more time and he's out cold.

I collapse on my back breathing heavily. My head is fuzzy.

But I can't pass out now, I have to get Aria out. I slowly get to my feet using the wall for support and walk over to Aria. Each step requires a tremendous amount of effort. I slowly take the gun out of her hands and whisper softly.

"Hey, hey it's okay, breath, in out in out"

I wanted to tell her that everything is going to be okay and that she's going to be safe. But we still needed to get out of the building. And I don't want to make promises I can't keep.

Aria isn't responding, still staring at Luca's unconscious body on the floor.

"Aria please, we have to go"

I grab both of her shoulders and try to move her towards the door but I trip over my legs and fall on my knees. This apparently snaps her out of whatever shock she was in because she crouches in front of me. The fog disappeared from her eyes. She puts her hands on my shoulders balancing me, keeping me upright and looks me up and down. "You look like shit"

I snort. "Have you looked in the mirror recently?" I retorted back. She laughs "Actually I have"

I smile.

Dammit Blake. Focus.

"Come on. Can you stand?" She gets to her feet.

I try to do the same thing but my legs don't really want to cooperate and I almost fall back down but Aria grabs one of my hands and swings it across her shoulder to support some of my weight. It's honestly not much but I can move. Sort of.

"I can't carry your heavy ass all the way out you're going to have to walk on your own, you think you can do that"

I can't really talk. All my energy is going towards standing up. So I just nod and hope she gets the message.

We somehow make our way to the door and Aria half drags, half pushes me. And she's already breathing very hard. If she's lucky she only got a concussion from Luca's punches, no internal bleeding. And I can't believe she can stand and support some of my weight.

She opens the door and we step in the room behind the double sided mirror.

She inhales sharply.

"Blake..."

There's blood on every surface of the room.

"They let him hit you" I shrug nonchalantly trying to not make a big deal out of it. But Aria's eyes are wide and she's looking around the room.

"But they're..."

"They're dead, yeah." I inhale. "Look, you might think we're a sick agency but we actually have a set of rules, and what Luca did to you goes against half of those rules. And these men let it happen."

Aria doesn't say anything. She lets me lean on the wall and takes a step forward. Looking at the bloodbath in front of her. Apparently she was supporting a lot of my weight because I slowly sank to the floor, the pain in my abdomen growing.

I hissed again. And she immediately turns to me and rushes to my side.

"What the fuck Blake, I don't think Luca had such a strong punch." She looks over me worriedly and when she sees that I've been clutching my abdomen where a big suspicious amount of blood was, she immediately removes my hand and lifts my shirt.

"Blake..."

If I wasn't in so much pain I would totally appreciate Aria looking at my bare torso. But considering the huge bullet wound in the middle of my abdomen I was using all my energy to remain conscious.

A/N

I'm sorry for the long wait but here is a slightly longer chapter. Now that I managed to bring the story to a much more interesting place I really hope I manage to write the next chapter faster.

Hope you enjoyed it!

Any suggestions/ ideas?

How do you think they are going to get out of the building?

Are they going to get out of the building?:))))
