He sat there, next to the open seat with a black hoodie on with the hood on his head so you could only see the loose dark brown strands of hair out from underneath. With his elbows crossed and on his desk he sat there, he wore dark washed jeans as his legs were splayed out. He didn't even notice I was standing in the classroom yet.

All he was doing was blankly staring at his desk.

I looked over to see Tilly and the girls sitting together, I huff as I walk over to them, and stop right where they were sitting. Tilly looks up at me, which was followed by Frankie and Adira.

"I am so sorry, we saved you a seat a next to us but then Sophia took your spot and wouldn't leave" she spoke sending a glare to the girl sitting next to her,

"I'm surprised you didn't hear Tilly while you were speaking to the teacher" adira laughed as she spoke, "I thought she was actually going to fight her" they all giggled which made ultimately copy and giggle at the thought of Tilly fighting a girl for my seat.

"Hey I want her to be sitting next to me for her first day of classes, but I am sorry that you have to sit with Landon for your first class. Hope he doesn't bite" Tilly's chuckle filled the air in her room. It made me feel good that she was literally about to physically fight for me to sit next to her, but at the same time now I have to sit next to Landon at the back of the room.

"It's okay, thank you for trying though" I smile to the girls, "We will make sure you're sitting next to us next class, promise" Frankie spoke as I started to walk off to my seat, Frankie was always so supportive and positive. She was like the human version of the sun, always bright and filled the room up with warmth.

I move past the other rows of desks and make my way towards my seat and desk. I seem to get a few glances and stares as I move past the other students.

"Alright settle down, settle down" the teacher began to speak to the class, and the loud chatter of the students slowly started to get quieter until it was silent.

I reach my desk quickly and take a seat. I take a look at Landon next to me, still away in a dream, he wasn't even watching the teacher as she began the class. My eyes quickly flash to the interaction we had last night and my heart skips a beat. I quickly snap out of it and face the teacher.

It's not like I'm expecting an apology. He hates me and that's how it's always going to be.

But the difference is I hate him too. I don't need him to like me.

The teacher went on to talk about what we were going to be learning and discussing in today's class. I felt really out of my comfort zone sitting here, I've never been to a class before so sitting here with like 20 other students is honestly really hard.

"Octavia what would you do in that situation?" Mrs Chambers voice broke my thinking and getting me to listen to her.

Fuck, what was she asking me?

I could feel my cheeks going red and getting hotter, it felt like everyone just turned around and looked at me, their eyes staring at me while I just sat there, silently panicking. Unable to answer.

"Firstly, you don't build a fire if you're being hunted. The smoke will easily be traced to your location. Secondly I would set up camp and keep watch for any movement" Landon's voice broke through the awkward silence in the room, he looked at me while he spoke, his eyebrows furrowed and jaw clenched, his eyes dark and piercing.

He then faced back to the teacher as he finished his sentence. The class just looked back at him and then me and back at him. Tilly, Frankie and Adira were just chatting to themselves quietly. But I could see the way the other girls looked at him, their eyes dreaming of what he tastes like. Do they even realise how much of a dick he is.

"Well, thank you Octavia" Mrs chambers sarcastically thanked me but knew it was a go at Landon for speaking instead. "But you are right, you may be freezing when in the wild, but if you build a fire, you're pretty much leading yourself to death" she continued on.

I huffed in annoyance, I really need to concentrate. My first class and I already got called on and didn't even know what I was being asked.

Even though I didn't even want to waste my breath for him, I felt the need to at least thank him for getting me out of that awkward situation that was very clearly going down hill quickly.

I turn my head slightly to my left to look at him, he hadn't moved, still sitting low in his seat his arms crossed on the table and his hood up.

"Thanks" I say, short and sweet, didn't want to say anything more than one word.

He paused for a second, and his head turned towards me, his eyes piercing through me, like he was looking straight through me.

"I didn't do it for you-" his upper lip curled up as he spat his words out, harsh but quietly so no one else could hear him. "-if you think I'd do anything for you, your delusional as well as stupid"

Wow

He looked me up and down before returning back to my eyes one last time, he then turned his head back around to the front and his attention back to the teacher.

My nose flared with angry. This guy is really getting on my last nerve and I'm just about over it. All I did was thank him and he feels he has the power to insult me. I take a few deep breaths to calm myself down. My first day of classes don't need to start with me losing my shit at someone who doesn't deserve any of my time.

The rest of the class went pretty slowly, Landon didn't look at me once and I didn't look at him.

Two can play at that game.

"Okay students, that is going to wrap up today's class, but before we completely finish up I have decided that from now on and until the end of the year those seats are now your permanent seats-" as soon as those words came out a few grumbles from the students appeared. "-meaning everyone you come into my class, you'll need to be in the seat you are in right now. I have written it down so don't try anything on me" she let out a belly laugh and looked around for anyone to speak up.

"This is stupid" I hear the grumpy boy on my left mumble under his breath, I roll my eyes. Of course he needs to say something.

"What was that Mr Barlow?" She says asking him in front of the class, I was surprised she actually heard him to be honest, it was quiet and I was the one sitting next to him.

"Nothing. Just a stupid idea" he mumbles again sliding back in his chair but keeping his eyes on the teacher.

"Well thank you for your unnecessary feedback tha-" she begins to speak back to him but he cut off Mrs Chambers from speaking any more,

"Why do I have to sit next to her? She can't even answer a simple question and shouldn't even be at this school in the first place" he sits up as he spoke as his opinions to the class, his voice getting angrier with each word.

"Get over yourself" I say rather unexpectedly, I think my mouth spoke before my brain even comprehended what I just said. I can't back out now.

I think I'm learning to actually defend myself.

My eyes spot Tilly and the girls staring at what was going on, their mouths gaped open and shocked.

The classroom was so silent I swear I could hear my own heartbeat. All the students just watching and honestly getting entertained.

His head just turned to me, all his facial features dropped and he just glared at me. His mouth started to open and about to say something which I'm sure what hurtful and disgraceful but Mrs Chambers replied,

"Mr Barlow. That is enough. You can come see me after your last class today to further discuss any inconveniences you think you have but don't go shouting at them across the room" she stood tall and waited for his response.

He simply just rolled his eyes at her and scoffed under his breath. His head turns to me one last time as the class starts to stand up and leave,

"Piss off and don't talk to me" he harshly spat at me with his words and his facial features showed a face of disgust,

"Gladly" I say turning my back on him and walking away, I could honestly feel his eyes burning into the back of my head.

That guy needs a cold shower and some major therapy.

I met up with Tilly, Adira and Frankie as they waited for me by the door, they looked to be whispering to each other and I'm sure I can guess what they were talking about.

I was honestly a bit embarrassed, my anger took over in the heat of the moment and completely forgot the whole class saw that interaction.

He just loves to make my life worse.
