The days go by painfully slow and Aso has managed to wiggle his way into Y/n's heart, she has started to look less tired and the bags under her eyes have almost vanished. That twinkle she had in her eyes when Ayato had met her had began to appear once more.
She's is still very tense but she's been with her friends and him a lot.
He saw just the two of them hanging out around the school and how he was so straightforward with his words, "You know me and you could date, and we could both become athletes. Imagine that, us both becoming famous and it being you and me, what do you say?" Aso smirks up at her, looking up at her while he was in the pool and she was on the edge.
"I mean, I'm not really good at sports and I don't know you that well to be willing to become an athlete with you, sorry." Y/n replies and Aso nods.
"That's fine, you'll find out I'm very patient so trust me I'll get to know you and you'll get to know me." Aso smiles and Y/n returns it.
Ayato stared daggers at him from afar, Y/n belongs to him.
Ayato has also learnt his routine, it consists of hanging around a huge group off people, Y/n, her friends and the people in his club. He's shoulder to shoulder with Y/n, laughing and putting his arm around her shoulder.
Withstanding the urge, to plunge a knife into his throat has been killing him. There have been numerous situations were they were face to face and he could of killed him. He had his knife in hand and he was exiting the supply closet, he assumed no one was around till Aso bumped into him.
"Why are you caring a weapon around? Your not apart of the cooking club... Wasn't the whole club shut down after Amao disappeared?" Aso asked staring at the sliver blade, that fitted so neatly in his hands.
"It's a box cutter...I was going to place it back where it belonged." Ayato answered, it was clearly a lie and he made it even more obvious by hiding it behind his back, Aso raised his eyebrow but nodded and walked off.
He wished he just killed him that day.
It reminded him of Amao, when he mindlessly followed him into his house, falling right into his trap. Therefore, he payed the price for that. Kizano did as well, only some people who didn't hate him found it crushing, that he died in such a way.
Osana got off lucky, because he had something ten times worse planned, he should of let her suffer.
Aso comes to school extra early, swimming back and forth to practice for the first tornament of the day. The sports festival doesn't happen often, that's what he's heard but Aso is finally back and because of these killings. It's only purpose is to serve as a distraction.
He knows Y/n knows that, yet she still decides to remain oblivious. She's even made a poster with the letters of Aso's name and Kokona, saki and her have been planning on holding it while he swims.
That's definitely not happening.
He decided to make a truce with Aso, apologizing for the other day and asked if he could walk with him to school, on the day of his tournament. This saves him the trouble of having to manually sneak into school.
They are both in the boy's locker room and all it reminds Ayato of is the time he snuck into the girl's locker room just to catch a glimpse of Y/n.
Ayato just stood in a corner scrolling through his phone looking of pictures he managed to snap of Y/n, till he interrupted him.
"C'mon man, join me, I like to challenge someone before my tournaments." Aso beams, looking in Ayato's direction, he somehow resisted the urge to scoff.
"Maybe, I will join you but I'll sit on the sides for a bit." Ayato smiled back and Aso grinned back, he had light yellow swimming trunks on with two black lines going down either side.
"That's the spirit, I'll meet you there! Last one there is a rotten egg!" Aso spoke as he ran out, of course he turns absolutely anything into a race.
Ayato changed into some plain black trunks, he felt too bare for his liking, and he especially didn't like being in the open as well. He opened his locker, revealing a full bottle of water, more importantly Aso's bottle. He had hid and taken it, while Aso was chatting about the places he went for sports tournaments and how his parents were so proud of him.
He gave Ayato a chance to speak after he apologized for getting to carried away, Ayato told him about some fake hobbies he had and Aso seemed convinced.
Ayato picked up his neatly folded uniform, out of his locker and dug in his pants pocket, till he found the crushed up sedative he placed in a ziplock bag.
He carefully tipped it into, the open bottle lid and afterwards he closed it and started shaking the bottle, to stop it from screaming 'hey I'm trying to drug you'.
After he was done, he scrunched the bag up and placed it in his pocket, he placed his uniform back in his locker with a slam and walked slowly to the pool.
Ayato shouted, "Hey, you left your bottle in the locker room!"
"Thanks, Yan. Toss it here, I'll catch." Aso response, Ayato throws it and Aso catches.
Aso gives him a thumbs up and chugs down a heap of water, only a quarter is left after he's done. Aso throws the water back to Ayato and it catches him off guard so it hits his stomach instead. He heard that the drug immediately takes affect and makes you feel quite relaxed and drowsy.
The drug has done something to Aso since he suddenly stopped swimming and started doing a starfish in the water.
He was bobbing about on the surface, with his limbs stretch out, he started randomly smiling at the clear blue sky.
The interesting thing about this pool is that it has one of those roldeck covers, along with a ladder, that you must use to get out.
Aso began swimming again but his movements were much slower and sloppier than usual.
Chlorine began to get into his mouth and he spluttered a lot as began to sink, then re-float.
It was as if he suddenly lost the ability to swim well.
He also found a very useful remote the other day ,that is linked to the pool cover, he pulls it out of his swimming trunks pocket.
His legs are left in the water as he sits at the edge, "Do you know what this remote does?" Ayato asks tauntingly, waving the device in his hand. Aso doesn't pick up on his sarcasm, due to his deteriorating awareness of the situation.
"For um...P-pool cover?" Aso coughs out, clearly growing tired and needing some help in getting back out the pool, as his drowsiness begins to kick in.
Watching Aso swim is similar to watching paint dry.
Aso has just reached the other side of the pool ,where the pool cover is and he turns, he desperately needs to reach the other side ,where the ladder is.
Ayato simply watches, click.
The pool cover slowly trails behind the struggling swimmer, Aso in a clear panic looks to Ayato for some assistance that Ayato simply won't provide, he's not helping him.
Ayato stands up and begins walking the same pace him and the pool cover are going, "Do you know what I like?" Ayato pauses, waiting for him to answer but all he heard was the splishing and splashing from Aso as he tried to carry himself to the other side of the pool ,while he raced against this new competitor, the pool covers.
"I like the fact that even the greatest swimmers can still drown." Ayato laughs over the sound of Aso's pure desperation, "I wonder who will win... Aso Rito the sports prodigy... Or the pool covers , it seems to be moving slightly faster than you can physically go at the moment."
"Maybe, I'll let you live if you can reach the ladder..." Ayato taunts.
Aso swims as fast as he can possibly go, fighting against sleepiness and his muscles getting stretched to their limits. It's no match for the covers, his fingers reach the edge of the pool and the covers close right on them.
Ayato stared down at his trapped fingers, "You did reach the ladder... But I lied." He whispered, loud enough for him to hear, he harshly stomps on his fingers making them sink beneath the cover as it closes with a thud.
He waits, he still hears some splashing underneath but that soon dies down and so does Aso.
This can be ruled off as plain old negligence or a tragic accident, Aso did announce that he was going to practice early so everyone knew he was coming here. That makes the suspect list larger.
Ayato walked off, changing out of his trunks, with one less person in the room, his hands stroked the picture of Y/n he had stuck to the inside of his locker. He then touched the key that unlocked his shrine of her, that was tied around his neck.
He pulled out his phone and it showed messages between him and Kokona, she didn't know it was him. To her this was an unknown number asking her to meet him next week, promising a life changing chat.
He actually wasn't lying about there talk being life changing.
Lessons were cancelled due to the festival, Ayato changed back into his uniform and merged with the crowd, he spotted Taeko and carried on walking with her.
Every day leading up to today, his class had to do a variety of sports practice and the people who scored the highest had a chance of facing off against Aso. Ayato decided to keep a low profile, he doesn't need attention being drawn to himself.
He sits on a the bleachers, next to Taeko and some random classmates, there are oceans of people in every row and on the opposite side of the pool. People cheer when they see their favorite classmate standing at the starting line on the edge off the pool.
Y/n and her friends are standing up with a banner they wave about in the air while cheering, they are blocking the view of the people behind them but they continue anyways.
"Settle down students of Akademi, we have all come together to celebrate this moment we are all about to see momentarily. I thank my assistant Genka and other faculty members for coming to watch this wonderful occasion, I thank you all as well. Now, Genka, unveil the pool are competitor's will be swimming in." The principal announced, Genka presses the button and the pool covers begin to slowly pull away.
The swimmers do some quick stretches and some blow kisses to the crowd.
The crowd chants loudly, hyping up the swimmers.
Aso isn't there.
Something floats to the surface and an outbreak of screams begin.
"Everyone, calm down, please evacuate and faculty members get the students from your class to line up outside the school in an orderly fashion!" The principal tries to shout over the panicking students who quickly rush off in a huge swarm.
The principal's eyes meet Ayato's and he glares at him, Ayato returns a cold blank stare and turns his attention to Y/n.
Y/n grabs Kokona and Saki as she pulls them along to get away from this area, she does turn her gaze to him though ; fear is etched into her soul and she looks to Taeko sadly.
The crowd pushes Y/n forward so she continues to run with her friends.
Ayato follows the crowd at a much slower pace and Taeko is clearly scared but Ayato tunes all the noise around him out as he places his hand to his heart and begins to focus on the beats of his heart.
The sound of his heart beat begins to fade and he soon hears another, those fast beats are definitely Y/n.
He could visualize her whereabouts, at any point in time, due to him stalking her and he could visualize the presence of near by objects that could be used for commiting murder.
He can hear the direction she's travelling and he can vividly see the pink outline he's use to seeing, she's up ahead.
Noise rushes into his ear channel and he looks into the direction Y/n has gone to and he follows it, while pretending not to hear Taeko's calls.
He notices that she's lined up along with everyone else and he goes to his place, which is at the front of the line due to his surname beginning with an a and the order being alphabetical.
"Students, no one is allowed to leave till after the police arrive and have spoken to everyone." A random teacher shouts, getting everyone's attention.
Blue and red flashing lights arrive and Ayato sees the principal tense up, as usual the principal requests the interrogation is done at the police station and not at school.
"No officer, I didn't see Aso in the morning." Ayato answers, no one else was there to disprove his claims so this would be a breeze.
"Alright, your free to go." The officers states, he then shakes Ayato's hand and Ayato walks out the room, spotting Y/n in the waiting room looking as gloomy as ever.
She reported him, and of course they didn't believe her.
He did warn her not to.
She'll see what happens when she doesn't want to obey his words.
