Y/n stumbled into the police station, she had a pounding headache and felt overwhelmingly dizzy. The head police officer saw her Masayoshi Motarasu, he immediately sighed and dragged his hand down his face as she approached him, "Please officer, will you just hear me out?" Y/n pleads, she's being coming here everyday after school, at the same time.
"I understand, that times must be tough for you... Considering the death of your sister but you can not waste valuable police time. You are aware that what your doing is an offence, right?" He says, picking up his mug, full of fresh hot caffeine.
"Why won't anyone listen to me!?" Y/n says, and her head spins even more, she feels a migraine coming on. "I'm aware, that this must be frustrating but you need to consider the fact we have your sister's killer. She's most likely behind the rest of those murders anyways, I know you don't want to hear this but you should focus on your mental health and leave this stuff to us." Motarasu states, Y/n was growing more agitated by his word's, the more he spoke.
Ever since Musume's death and Y/n's father had sent her to doctor's where she was diagnosed with severe depression, after that everyone treated her differently.
She had never felt so alone.
Saki's parents had withdrawn her from the school and Y/n watched her getting into a car with her parents and driving off.
Frueddo came up to her saying, "I'm sorry, my parents don't want me... Hanging out with you, I'm also sorry for all the things people are saying in the photography club... Saying your a the second killer and stuff like that."
She just wanted to be seen, heard and she was slowly loosing everyone, she always has bandages wrapped around her knuckles. She really needs to stop punching things...
She feels so much weaker she joined the martial arts club, since she believed it would take her mind off things and help her with her depression.
Turns out she's got too much anger inside of her, she swung messily at a martial arts member but there was so much anger inside her heart that she managed to somehow land a punch. A crack was heard in the room, she thinks she accidentally broke someone's jaw.
Budo had a talk with her, about how she was always welcomed to practice self defense at his club but swinging with your emotions instead of your mind can get people hurt.
It seemed that, she always caused some kind off damage.
Splits in families and her own.
Her father had cried in front of her and her heart sunk, she knew the feeling, feeling so helpless knowing you can't do anything to stop it.
Whenever her father asks if he could cook something for her, she always said she didn't feel hungry, that's what she always said when someone asks.
"Then, let me talk to someone else then. Since this clearly isn't going anywhere." Y/n snaps, she barges past him and she spots that young officer ,who always interviews her whenever a murder happens.
She hates that she talks about murder so casually, like it's normal.
He was currently on his break, with a box of donuts in hand and he was scoffing them down as if they'd disappear any moment. "Want...One?" He speaks through chews of the sugary treat, Y/n shakes her head and he places the box down, on a near by round table.
Out of everyone in the police station, he has a strong hatred for the Aishi's as his father was apart of the case involving Ryoba Aishi. He was ridiculed, along with the entire force and it was a horrible time for his family. He sits down at the circular table, with his donut box in center, Y/n is on the opposite side.
His name is Enjo Kanojo, his gaze softens when he sees the bags under her eyes, "Do you have evidence?" Kanojo asks so suddenly it catches her off guard.
"Kind off?" Y/n shrugs and he immediately sighed dragging his fingers through his slicked back hair, she heard he was 18 and fresh out of university.
He tilts his head to the side, staring into her eyes, "Well, do you have a testimony? Any documents, photographs, videos, voice recordings?" He replies, and Y/n wearily nods and he perks up almost instantly.
"Okay, so we have something to work with. I've heard you've been doing some detective work, did you find any biological evidence? In case you don't know what I'm referring to, I mean things like fingerprint, impression evidence; blood, hair or even an eyewitness." He asks so many things she loses track of them already, for some reason she was finding it hard to focus on what he was saying.
"I did find a hair sample, it got stolen as soon as I gave it to some science guy at school. I don't go to the Photography club much anymore, I've kind of lost interest in everything I use to like so I don't have my camera. That picture had an image of the killer dropping the weight onto the stage, I could get my camera back from the club." Y/n begins and he nods along listening intently, he then begins to jot something down on a piece of paper and then placing his pen down.
"Oh yeah, some video was posted of my classmate Osana, the date and time it was posted helped me narrow down a list. Some of my friends had clubs so they were at school and so were other club goers. Kokona even saw him in town with Amao." Y/n rambles and Kanojo fake coughs so he can talk.
"That's all great but you need to gather all your evidence up dates, times, witnesses, places and weapons used. Without it, we can't make a case so we must try getting as much as possible." He cuts in, "I can't talk any longer, my break is about to end but remember this, no detail is ever to small to be useful." He abruptly gets up and both him and Y/n hear Mr Masayoshi shouting for him to get a move on.
He flashes her an apologetic smile, before rushing off.
Why does she still suspect Ayato?
She's conflicted with emotions, one side defends Kokona and the other side protects Ayato.
She notices the paper Kanojo left behind, she pulls it closer and it has a phone number on it with his name underneath.
She smiles placing it in her pocket, she stands up walking past the front desk where Kanojo was being scolded and she saw Ayato outside.
She couldn't even pretend that she didn't see him, since they already made eye contact.
Ayato gives her a wave from outside the glass door, there's no turning back now. She opens the door to greet him when, "Sorry, ma'am we need to ask you further questions." Kanojo says, placing his hand on her shoulder, making her step back into the police station.
She knows exactly what Kanojo is doing.
"I might take a while, I think it's best for you to head home since you it's going to rain soon." Y/n says, Ayato gives her back a smile yet his eyes were dull when he briefly looked at Kanojo, who was already giving him a death stare.
Ayato wanted to scoff at the officer's attempt to intimidate him, how could he scare him when he had to look up to meet his eyes?
Ayato was quite tall for his age he even was in middle school as well, he remembered when Y/n called him a giant
"I don't mind waiting." Ayato said, he knew she was up to something, he could see her gulp at his words and how she looked anywhere but into his eyes. "I um- Sure..." Y/n stammers, these pills don't help her at all, with lying.
The door closes behind her and she makes the mistake of turning back to look at him, he watched, standing unnervingly still. Once they were out of sight, Kanojo opened the back door for her and Y/n thanked him and exited the police station.
She entered an alleyway, it she looked up to the clouded sky and a droplet of rain cooled her burning forehead, she noticed it was raining and she sighed knowing she had no umbrella.
She looked left to right before exiting the alleyway, she wrapped her arms around herself and her teeth chattered. Her hair was getting drenched/frizzy, each step she took made a flash off rain water splash onto her ankles.
Today was not a good day for her, the person behind her wasn't having a good day either.
Ayato trudged behind her, he was debating whether he should approach her since she seemed... Sad.
But, he also didn't mind watching her hair bounce with each step she took either, maybe a gift would help.
Maybe he could reveal he's been the one handing her gifts this whole time, he wants her to fall in love with him naturally. Her mental state is already spiralling down so it's the perfect time, then he can show and make her understand her that she needs him.
He has no intentions of kidnapping Y/n, he might not feel emotions but she's conjured up the feeling off love in his heart. If times do get desperate, he will have to kidnap her.
It's for their love, they are meant to be.
His heart will always beat for her.
He sends her a text, asking if finished talking to the officer and if he could come over to her place to study. He sees her quickly pulling her phone out her pocket and covering her phone screen with her other hand, to prevent rainfall getting onto it.
She types back a message with one hand so there is one typo but he gets the gist of the message: I don't freel so well right now but you could come over for a bit. Thank you for what you did the other day at her funeral I appreciate it.
Ayato smiles and continues to follow her till she reaches her house safely.
He eventually gets home, he enters his room and his eyes land on his corkboard.
Pictures of Y/n in different places, different poses and all types of expressions on her face were scattered all over his corkboard, almost covering it entirely. As he stared into her eyes, he opened his shrine to take a whiff of the musk from the knickers, he recently stole from her.
She was so addicting...
The fact that he can be relatively stable when he's around her proves he's already ahead of his predecessor's. The women in his family had the same condition as him and they all resorted to kidnapping and mind breaking.
He wouldn't need to resort to such extremes but those options are always on the table.
He even out did his own mother, after listening to the those 'basement tapes' it was quite obvious that it was his mother's first time speaking to his father as well. He also found the tape, where his parents were just about to leave for America as well.
Yet, there was another thing that made him and his mother different, her way with words, she managed to make an entire courtroom and everyone in Japan love this sweet, innocent school girl who was 'wrongly' accused.
When in reality, the detective was a 100% right to be suspicious off her.
He gets his cat carrier out, from the corner of his room and lures Yua in with some cat treats, the door on the carrier clicks shut and Yua lets out a meow after getting tricked into going in.
He gets his yellow raincoat on, with boots and all and heads out to her house.
The door swings open after he knocks a few times and he steps into the deathly quiet house, "Hello, Ayato..." Y/n says, she's in her pjs and she honestly looks like she crawled out of hell to get back to Earth, she wouldn't be in this state if she was with him.
Ayato opens up his backpack taking out one of the videogames she likes, he holds a copy of Yanvania and her eyes widen at the sight of the game.
He forgot about that Oko incident.
"Sorry... How about we play Magical Girl Pretty Miyuki?" He asks, she nods she's in dry clothes now and he smells that lavender scent on her, he recently left a gift box at her door with the same perfume he wore at the funeral.
"Sure, weren't we going to do homework?" Y/n questions, slumping down onto her couch, Ayato opens the carrier door and the Yua jumps on her and lies on her lap.
"It was just an excuse for me to see you, you've been so distant and I can respect that you need some space but I'm worried." Ayato sits beside her, so close that their legs are touching, they both have game controllers in hand.
"Especially, since you've been taking all those antidepressant pills."
"I don't want you to worry about me, maybe it's just better if you forget me completely. I think I'm a curse to men and women, I've talked to atleast all the victims at some point and now their gone. I don't want you to die." Y/n spoke, her voice was shakey, it sounded like she was suppressing the urge to cry.
He heard Oko saying something similar to what she's was currently saying now, just before he killed himself.
"I'd rather die than be away from you, Y/n. Nothing will stop me."
Tears immediately run down her face and she lets out a sob, he decides to be bold and wipes her tear away. He can feel her warmth radiating off her. He feels like he's orbiting a sun, despite her ice cold house, she's the only warm thing there.
"You don't mean that... I'm serious Ayato, I don't know who to trust, my own friend for years killed my sister and someone is going on some rampage at school and Saki and Frueddo have moved on! But I haven't! I can't, I feel like this is all my fault and I tried acting like I some brave confident leader so my friends wouldn't have to be scared." Y/n jabbers, all Ayato sees is a broken girl, so torn by the fact she's finally realized she isn't some hero here to save the day.
Heroes are fictional for a reason.
These past weeks, weren't meant originally meant for Y/n to come waltzing in and finally being recognized after spending most of her life in the dark.
It wasn't time for Y/n too suddenly become miss detective, solving crimes and thinking she's living out her dream.
These past weeks, have shown and proven that there is only one thing in the world, predators and prey.
He's the predator, she's the prey.
"But, me making sure they weren't scared, made me even more scared and it was so stressful for me to even carry on with my life normally!"
"And why do you think this is your fault?" Ayato queries, time to put her weakened mindset to the test.
"I've being playing some stupid detective these past few weeks and I- Forget what I just said." Y/n sighs, she pets Yua till she jumps off her lap she feels a hand on top of hers and she looks down to see Ayato's.
Well, that confirms it, she is the person who's supposed to be after him.
"I'll always be there for you, Y/n."
"You keep saying those words... Do you even know what they mean?"
"It means I care."
Ayato had been reading up on psychology and it's helped highlight how much Y/n's being dealing with emotional trauma. Even when she was younger, she didn't have much maternal love or paternal.
She's lacked emotional support from the very beginning and she's been alone, hearing a simple phrase such as I care definitely made an impact on her.
She pulled him into a hug, "Thank you, thank you so much. You've always been there for me, I'll carry on for you." Y/n chokes out through tears, Ayato wraps his arm around her and his eyes land on her slightly open cupboard.
He was confused by what she was saying.
