~~~Violet POV~~~
I opened my eyes slowly, wincing as the light assaulted my senses. I blinked rapidly trying to get used to the brightness. As I looked around I saw that I was in a white room, with one large window and fluorescent lights on the ceiling
My heartbeat sped up and my head started to swing as I looked around.
I turned my head to see Mia in the door way.
"Am I in hell?" My voice was a soft murmur.
"Nope, cause right now I'm in heaven. Look at you Violet with a busted black lip, dazed and confused. I had to see this with my own eyes." Mia beamed while rubbing, her hands together briskly.
I grabbed the sheets tightly "So you came here to gloat, at my down fall? " I lifted my head. To look at her " Tell me how does that make you better?" I scoffed. I immediately dropped my head, out of pain.
"Who said I was trying to be better? You deserve this." She pointed around the room " You and your friend has been hurting people. Causing pain and suffering. And to watch you get what's coming to you, warms my heart." I could see the anger boiling, behind her eyes. Spilling onto her bitter smile
"Enjoy this while you can because...." I started to cough hysterically. My chest started to tighten
She started to chuckle. "Oh I will." She flipped her hair and turned around "Nurse Nurse, Violet just woke up. She seems upset and frantic....For some reason." I heard her voice trail off. As I was engaging in a tango, with the ache in my body.
My eyes started to feel heavy. "Breathe Breathe. Calm down let's make sure everything is okay." The blurry face person continued to franticly touch me. "Do you feel pain?"
I just looked straight, at the doorway where Mia stood. "My chest feels tight." My voice slowly travelled around the room.
The nurse bubbles on. Her voice reminds me of Sydney "You so lucky to be alive. Are you glad to be back?"
I just watched the nurse write something on a notepad. "You should have let me slip away." My voice was soothing whispers of a weary traveler, seeking rest. " I hope the guilt of you helping me. Will last a life-time. My voice was somber, as if carrying the burden of a heavy heart.
The woman's eyes widen in shock. I turned my head and closed my eyes.
---
I opened my eyes to witness Diggy seated solemnly in a chair before me, his somber silhouette silently stirring the space.
Diggy leaned forward and stated "I'm surprised you convinced Branson to come back."
I rubbed my eyes, to make sure it was him "How did you know, I was in here?" I questioned.
Diggy shrugged his shoulders. "This is a small town. And you do know I keep tabs on all my people." He shot back
I rolled my eyes "He raced?" I queried
He gave me a smirk "Yeah... like he never left." He chirped.
I scoffed "Don't ever think I did it for you.. you know what I am entitled to. " I looked at Diggy as I said that
Diggy leaned back in his seat. "How could I ever forget. You stay reminding me?" Diggy shot back
"Well I got to get going. Can't be in the same, spot for too long. You know shadows hide in the dark." Diggy continued
And just like that I was alone.
"I'm fine by the way." I tried to inform him but he walked out. And I was left alone.
----
I was staring straight at the ceiling, for hours. I heard the foot steps.
Immediately looked at the doorway. I saw the skull mask, with a hoodie on. And all the memories came rushing back. Being dragged all through my house by my hair
Before I could really register. What was going on he clamped my mouth shut. I looked outside to see. The sun was shining bright and I moved my eyes to the open door.
Oh this fortune teller is bold.
It just keep staring in my face it was quiet. I was squirming under his gaze. It was a white mask with pitch black eyes.
"I just came back to make sure. you didn't forget about me." The robotic voice taunted " I know your body remembers, looking at the bruises." It's eyes were black holes.
Deep bottomless holes. Deep emotionless eyes. Deep soulless eyes. Deep unforgiving eyes.
"It would be a lie, if I told you I didn't want to hurt you. Cause I enjoyed every moment of it." The robotic voice was digging into his pockets. While keeping eye contact. "It was a pleasure to get acquainted with you." He pulled out a packet,
It remove his hand from my mouth and squeezed my cheeks. Which caused my mouth to open. It poured that packet's components in my mouth.
I started to kick my feet. And blowing raspberries. It pressed it's hand on my face. Over my mouth for a few seconds.
"It's best to not upset me again." It growled, each syllable dripping with a venomous promise of retribution. "Cause next time you might die. I really don't need you." It removed it's hands and started to walk out the room.
With a swift, mechanical movement, it withdrew its metallic hands, the sound of grinding gears filling the room like an ominous symphony, before turning and striding purposefully toward the exit, leaving behind a lingering aura of impending doom.
I tried to opened my mouth to scream bloody marry. But nothing came out .Only my throat was tightening.
Immediately pressed on the emergency nurse button over and over.
Nothing
I stood up from my bed. I felt my legs betray me, turning to jelly beneath me as I collapsed onto all fours. With every ounce of strength, I attempted to crawl, desperation driving me forward towards the door.
"Hey you okay?" I looked up to see a male nurse in light blue scrubs. His voice a beacon of concern amidst the chaos of my own panic.
Ignoring his question, I aggressively propelled myself towards him, my hand shaking as I pointed frantically to my throat .
His words pierced through the haze of fear and confusion, cutting through my frantic thoughts with a razor-sharp clarity. "Did you eat something? "
I nodded my head
"You having an allergic reaction?" He was comforting me "nurse bring me Antihistamines medicine now." And 2 nurses ran off.
----
"You still a sleep? The doctor said you can get discharge, today." I opened my eyes to see my mom. I immediately close my eyes and turn over. "You were a sleep the rest of yesterday."
"Come on honey." She started shuffling and moving around the room. I didn't care enough to see what she was doing
" I will fill in the discharge papers. Out in front at the front desk..." My mom started to ramble. I sat up right. To look at her "Oh you made effort to show, up for me mom?"
"What ?" My mom held on to invisible pearls
"You heard me." I covered the blanket over myself
She took in a deep breath " you know what I am going to sign the discharge papers."
"That won't be possible today." I heard a deep voice. I sat up to see who it was it was doctor Wilson." I looked at my mom
"We need to monitor her for a week." He was looking at the clip board
My mom opened her mouth to protest. I quickly chimed in "fine by me. At least the will be people around."
There was a knock on the door
''Good day we here to interview violet, for the assault?" The sheriff walked in while stating
I just rolled my eyes. I threw my head back. Against the wall.
"What's the problem?" Doc Wilson said
"It's been a long day............''I groaned
''What do u mean? You've only been laying down here all day?" My mom stated confused with a raised eyebrow.
I was staring straight at the wall as my mommy. Was unpacking my stuff. I laid in my bed thinking of garden of possibilities.
Gasp
I turn my head to find the source. Sydney stood there in the doorway.
Sydney's eyes widened, reflecting an overwhelming surge of relief and happiness. A brilliant smile broke across her face like the dawn after a long, dark night. Her hands trembled as they reached out to clasp mine, the touch was confirming she feared losing me forever.
"I was so scared, Violet," Sydney whispered, her voice breaking with emotion. "But you're here, you're really here."
"I promise who ever this is. Will have their will their head on a platter." Sydney continued to rub hands.
"I am okay. It's good to see you.. again." My words tumbled out in leisurely-paced.
Her body hunched over, as if carrying the weight of her unspoken grief on her shoulders. Her clenched fists were the only telltale sign of his silent struggle
She wept openly in front of my mom, doc, sheriff and I. Her usual strong happy facade crumbling. The room was filled with an uncomfortable silence.
I tried to set up in bed. But failed. So I gently patted her on the back. To comfort her. My mom came over and held Sydney.
"It's okay the worst is behind us." My mom whispered
She looks up her eyes all red and puffy, like she had an allergic reaction "Okay when will she be discharged?"
"In a week" my mom answered.
She looked at me in confusion "That's a long time. We have to do asleep over and I promise to visit you every day."
"of course how is the gala planning going." I turned to look at her
"Excuse me. We need to interview Violet, for the assault ." The sheriff asserted himself
I just rolled my eyes. I threw my head back. Against the wall. Hard the pain skipped through my body.
"Girl what's wrong with you." Sydney gasped
"Whoa." I gawked.
"What's the problem?" Doc Wilson said
"It's been a long day............I want to rest'' I groaned
''What do u mean. You been laying down there all day?" Sydney inquired
I just sighted "What questions... Do you have sheriff?" I ignored everyone in the room and zoned in on the Sheriff.
"okay can everyone exited the room?" The doctor Wilson demanded. My mom and Sydney walked out the room.
"I wish we could have met under better circumstances." The sheriff, said while he took a seat next to me.
I just laid there. not saying a word
"So do you remember what happened."
I turn my head to look at the sheriff. This was it. I could paint out. The whole truth to him. Tell about the gifts messages and the texts. It can all come out and I can be free.
"No I don't remember a thing. I went to bed and woke up...here" I looked around the hospital room. I decided to paint a lie, because I don' know what the Fortune Teller would do to me.
He raised a brow at me. "That's a shame. Are you sure?" The Sherif repeated.
I just nodded my head.
"Oh okay? do you know any one that would want to hurt you?" The sheriff moved on
I just shook my head "I am very sweet and lovable. I can't think of a single soul?" I paused when to catch a reflection on my self. On the a tile I had a cut on my forehead. I had a black eye and overall my face looked puffy and distorted.
I snapped right back. when I heard the sheriffs voice. "Let me repeat my question. Now what did you mean? Earlier you said you had a long day. Weren't you suppose to be in bed?" The sheriff asked
"I had a lot of visitors. And a police interview on top of that please....I need sleep." the Sherriff just nodded his head in responds
"We will do everything in our power to find your abuser?" The sheriff said. "Thank you for your time. please contact me if you remember. anything. It's a real shame this happened to you"
I just smile and nodded at his words.
"You have very beautiful eyes." The sheriff gave me an compassionate smile
His words was Speechless Bolt of Surprise. And those words took me back, like Echoes in a Quiet Chamber.
Was the Sheriff the Fortune Teller.
A shiver ran down my neck.
