The State of Svarher has been one of Flashia's most isolated states, being literally consisting of islands way up to the North near the Artic. That has not stop the troops, both Flash and foreign (more specifically from Naeslagtland and Esterria) from flooding the island however.
Southern Port of Svarher Island, Flashia, 9/10/2017 After 3 days of sailing to the North, the ships carrying a mechanized battalion of the Royal Esterrian Army finally arrived as it now unloads the payload.
"Enjoy your stay at Svarher lads!" said the ships captain on the radio "Oh and in advance, your ferry back home also won't be free"
"We figured as much" said the commander of this battalion "Thanks a lot though, wouldn't be here without you guys"
"Aye, no problem!"
The armored APCs, in this case the tracked Ijzerwagens would get off their ferry from their taxi ride, with some crew looking a little disgruntled.
"No one told us it would be rough..."
"Hey it's the ocean after all"
As soon as the Esterrian troops had set foot to this land in the South, the first thing they noticed is that this particular town is sparsely populated. The crowds here aren't so crowded, but even then, they still feel quite welcomed here.
"You know, I hope that the Flash got some good accommodations, I just want to get some rests after all that bull on the ship"
"Don't worry they will"
These Esterrians are needed in the North, but by now, they had been tired out from the trip from Esterria to way up North.
...
As the trucks they brought with their ship cruises on the highway of Animaatland, the Geschnokean soldiers looked upon the scenery in awe.
"No way they have such many colors on such many cars!"
Colors other than black, as they are back in the Dominion and Verdecana, are really, and I mean REALLY expensive. Basic colors such as red and others are often associated with the higher class and while boring colors are more common here, they appears shockingly more than they should be.
And this is not even mentioning the designs of the cars, as even the common ones have a lot of curves which... surprise surprise, is also associated with the rich, making their own vehicles look extremely outdated.
"See? I told you Flashia is this advanced!"
"Oh shut up"
As they went on with their trip, their truck started to vibrate for whatever reason.
"Hey what's going on driver?"
"I don't know, it just shakes all of the sudden!"
"Did maintanence did something wrong"
"We checked all of it before and found nothing wrong!"
Theoretically, it shouldn't be possible, they only went so far and yet it was already shaking. It's a minor one at best, but it's still something to worry about for them.
But then, they saw it.
"By the gods... what in the Civilized world is this?!"
A behemoth of a vehicle entered their sight. And it wasn't a single one, no, it's an entire platoon. Big and quite loud, the vehicle with the angled square insignia with their 'heads' facing backwards had been cruising along the Geschnokean convoy. And judging by the fact that the shaking intensified when they got close, these vehicles must've been the source.
Soldier after soldier stared at the column in shock as to what they are.
...
"What a welcoming party isn't it?"
The platoon of Pansar 97 (Strv 122) was making their way up to the North when they were joined by the shocked Geschnokeans staring at their tanks.
"Sure did make an impression on them"
As each truck from the 1920s go past, platoons after platoons of an average army from about 90 years ago stared intensively into their AFVs.
"It's a bit uncomfortable getting such stares you know what I'm saying?"
"Get used to it man, we're somewhere in the 1700s after all"
"Why is the trucks from 1920s then?"
"Uh... magic?"
"Fair enough"
...
Northern Gladahjuland "First thing you want to do when you're stripping down the rifle" said an instructor in a room with a platoon of Berians of the Foreign Battalions "You want to have the mag out" the instructor then takes out the magazine of the RM08 (HK416 D14.5RS) "And then rack..."
CHA-CHACK
"...So that no round would be in the chamber. The next step is to get these pins out" the instructor points out both of the pins holding the rifle in place before laying the rifle on its left side and pulling them out "Just like that" What happened next is the instructor basically splitting the gun into two halves, which shocked the Berians for the most part as anyone could tell.
"Once that's done, get the buffer spring out" the instructor then pulled out a spring along with a cylinder from the lower half, separating then and putting them on the side on the table "And now we take the bolt out by pulling out the charging handle"
The instructor pulled on a rod that also brought god knows what that is before also putting both on the table besides the rifle that was then also put down.
"We put them on the side for now as we need the handguard out" he then get hold of the upper, front half "See this over here? Yeah go ahead and spin it anti-clockwise until it comes out"
The instructor did exactly what he had said, by giving the pin enough spin to the opposite direction of a clock ticking. The handguard was then slide off to the front, exposing the inside.
"This is what we call the gas blowback action, or more specifically, a short-stroke gas piston. You going to need this long one out" the instructor then pushed the long one in then up and out it went "And then we can do the other one" the short would also be taken out
"Now back to the bolt..." the instructor then grabbed the thing "The next thing you want to do is removing the firing pin by getting this small pin out" the mentioned pin was barely seen being pointed out "Now while you can do it by hand, I recommend getting a tool for this if you're new or your fingernail is short, like a dummy cartridge or a hex key"
He then proceed to push it out with relative ease with his bare finger.
"Make sure you don't lose it or else a certain someone will get whooped" he then took out a long pin, putting it on the table along with the other parts "Now for the extractor, we need these pins out"
The instructor then pulled out the few pins (for god knows how many times already) and out comes a piece of metal which is presumed to be the extractor.
"And you're essentially done in disassembling it" after he had put the extractor and the corresponding pins onto the table, he briefly raised both of his hands up and then putting them down "As for the assembly, you can just do the exact opposite. Watch carefully as I do it"
The instructor then slowly carefully put the parts back together again. First it was the bolt carrier group that gets put back together with the pins also in. Then it was the gas block being returned to original state before being covered up by the handguard that would slide in and smacked into place and the screw being tightened up again.
At the same time of tightening the handguard into place, he puts the charging rod in the upper half, then the bolt carrier and shoved both of them right in front. The cylinder would then be put back into the rather long spring before the assembly gets shoved back into the lower half. The 2 would be brought back together, closing the gap up and the pins pushed back inside.
"Now for the function check, rack..."
CHA-CHACK
"...And pull the trigger..."
CLICK
"...You should hear a click from your rifle. For the final step, put the mag back inside"
Said magazine from before would be inserted into the well right in front of the trigger.
"And you're done. If anyone's got any question, ask away"
As after that was said, among the Berians, one hand would be raised.
"Yes you in the back, what's your question?"
"I was wondering erm..." muttered the Berian as he stood up "I was wondering how long should we be able to do this, l-like the time"
"You know I was about to get to that. A soldier should be able to disassemble and assemble within a minute and thirty seconds"
The polar bear man nodded while he then sat back down.
"Any more questions before we move on...? No? Alright then, I guess it's time for you guys to practice eh?"
...
Somewhere in Naeslagtland "This is our new concept of an armored self-propelled carriage" said a man hailing from the Royal Institute of Development of Equipment and Technology (RIDET, sometimes known as RDIET corresponding to their other name) to his Flash counterparts "It is designed as a result of lessons learned from our troops past experience and knowledge gathered from our 3-day excursion to Gevaka, Flashia"
"I see you took some inspiration from some of our past equipment?" said the officer representing the Flash Land Army, commenting on the resemblance of a certain half-track model of the front portion.
"Well we figured since you are very good at producing such vehicles, we thought we could make it like yours for better performance... Do note it looks barebones for now, as it's a work in progress"
"I see... Would you mind if we do a test on its armor?"
"Oh, it would be a pleasure to know how it will perform!"
The Flash officer then signaled to his soldiers while the RIDET man got everybody else into position. Once that's done, everyone was facing the front of the carriage with some weapons that the Flash soldiers brought with them. The officer then handed out something to his RIDET counterpart.
"Hearing protection" he said "Put it on, it's going to be loud"
The man would follow through to what he said while the soldier brought out his black gun. The soldier laid down on the ground on his chest, and with a:
CHA-CHACK
He was ready to fire some shots. He took aim using a tubular device on the rifle before then flips the switch to 90 degrees, for them it would be semi-auto.
BANG-PING BANG-PING BANG-PING
After firing three shots with three clear pings of the metal being hit, the soldier puts his safety back on. The men of the institution alongside the Flash officer then ran up to the vehicle to examine the damage.
"That's a clear dent over here..." the officer points it out "...And here, and here... It stopped the SS109s though so that's good"
The RIDET lead nodded before they would run back for another round. This time, it's the Gevakan Buzzsaw's turn. The bipod would be deployed, and an ammunition belt would be loaded with the help of an assistant gunner.
The gunner pulled the handle back then push it forward again, then taking aim using his iron sight while his non-dominant eye is closed.
BRRRRRRRRRRRRP- KABOOM
A mage who had been standing by immediately put up an ice wall, shielding everyone from the shrapnel sent flying by the exploding carriage. The RIDET man who flinched by instinct looked back in shock.
"Well I don't know about you, but looks like you're going to have to work on the armor and the engine further, because I'm gonna be honest with you, it's terrible so far"
The man looked back at the officer, then began nodding before receiving a pat in the back with the Flash leaving. He now stands there, thinking:
'How do we even do this now?'
It should be noted that what caused the explosion was not an engine blowing up, it was the propelling magic gem making contact with a high heat such as a bullet hitting it. If Havenklein tells us anything, conventional explosive plus magic gems usually equates to big explosion.
Another thing is that those gem could only make as much weight move, with the new carriage theoretically nearing that limit with the new suspension system that is expected to be used on this design.
'Oh dear, how we do this?'
...
Northern Animaatland, 10/10/2017 The army of Geschnokea on the next day would kick off their round of exercises in the Northern region of the Animaatish state of Flashia.
"Dig faster damn it!"
These troops aren't allowed to train alongside Flash troops for reasons such as the fact that the Dominion is a part of the Kingdoms Union. And while you can argue that it's unlikely, the information gathered from their experiences passed onto their Gestrae counterparts is still a real possibility.
"Faster!"
Flashia could only provide them with a field to train in, but that's good enough for the contingent. Soldiers would dig themselves a rudimentary trench system with their shovels out with the rifles on their back.
Trenches is something that is very vital for the Geschnokeans in terms of military doctrine as they have proven time to time that they're a pretty darn solid defensive systems in many conflicts the Dominion finds itself in. Be it enemy infantry or cavalry, Geschnokean trenches held the line for them and in the process took many lives.
So of course, the first day is spent on digging it up while foxholes at the front is already set up, covering them from the other team. Oh yeah, this exercise is a team-on-team amongst each other, so it should be noted as that.
...
"My lord, we have detected multiple human-sized mana signatures to the South-West"
Hošče, Demonic State, 10/10/1702 "Just as I expected..." muttered the Demon Lord sitting on the throne that is still broken on the right hand portion, because what do you know? Those Berian carpenters are either dead or ran away "It was humans that dared to shoot down our wyverns... Now they will face our wrath"
The Demon Lord then turned to an orge.
"Any news regarding Verkog?"
"My lord" said the ogre who is now the center of attention "By tonight, he said he will set sail to the South-West land"
"Very well..." the Demon Lord nodded "Anything else?"
"We will also support Verkog's efforts by air, using an overwhelming number of wyverns from the Corps"
"Very good then..."
...
"Mr. Ibsen" said a journalist in the room "Would you like to comment on the situation on the State of Svarher?"
Barminde, Tilenogtyve The minister of Internal Affairs was getting to the end of the conference he's holding for today.
"Umm... yes" said Lars Ibsen on the stand "The situation in the island is as we know it, very complex in of itself. We don't know much about what we are facing at hand, I must admit that, but we have taken what I believed is the best course of actions for now"
"Are you aware of the fact that the ongoing evacuation is being met with strong opposition from the locals?"
"Yes I am aware, however I must remind to you all that evacuation is the best action like I said before. It's the best action just to be safe for the local Svarherans for now"
...
Northern Svarher "I'm telling you I'm not leaving!" said a senior Svarheran resident in a town in the North of the island as he stood with some protestors on the sidewalk.
"Why not?" said a soldier in snow camo with his rifle (more like a carbine as it's actually a 14.5 inch barrel) on the back "I thought we agreed that whatever's up there is a threat?"
"That maybe the case but I will not go one step one step away from my dear home!"
The 217th Pansarjæger/Panserjeger Brigade, known for sweeping Gevaka off its KUGNE occupiers is having a really hard time in convincing the locals here from getting out the North.
"You may come here all armed with machine guns with your tanks and all that! But you can't make me leave!"
"We literally shot down an entire squadron of flying lizards with bodies of goblins. I'm not making that up, it's on the TV itself"
"I don't care! I'm not leaving!"
"Aimo..." the soldier then turned to another one behind him sitting on the hood of an utility vehicle (Finnish Army G-Wagon) "Help me here..."
Aimo who is currently in the process of chowing down on a fresh sandwich looked up to him in confusion. As his mouth is stuff with pieces of bread, lettuce, cheese and ham, he shook his head before then getting back to his sandwich, as if he's trying to get "No can do" across.
The soldier sighed before he then turned his eyes back to the old man and the protestors, not knowing what to do now.
"Damn it, old man, I'm telling you that it's for your own safety!"
...
"So how did it go?" said Anton Dam, the Minister of Defense.
"What do you think?"
As both meet up at the backstage, the Minister of Internal Affairs Lars Ibsen is visibly tired out from the press conference.
"God damn, I didn't expect that much questions thrown at me..." muttered Lars.
"Oh you haven't seen my average conference yet..."
"Really Dam? Because that sure was a lot for me"
"Yep, I bet you haven't dealt with questions like trying a deal with an artillery barrage"
"...I still don't get it..."
"In a nutshell, I had to put up with a lot more questions that you did back there, in fact a few once took me until 11 PM to wrap up"
"Oh... damn, I feel bad for you"
"I got used to it anyways..."
...
"Sir Verkog"
Hošče, Demonic State Verkog the ogre had stepped foot into the port in Hošče once again. With the date having been checked, the ogre asked one important question.
"So, is the fleet ready?" he said.
"Ready to set sail" replied the lizardman "Troops had already been loaded into the vessels, although I must admit getting the goblins in was quite a pain to say the least"
"As usual"
Verkog walked down the dock and turned to look up at a large warship, the biggest they have in the DLA's inventory. This one once servedthe Berian Navy in the war. But in the aftermath of their sudden offensive, the ship along many others were captured.
It wasn't the biggest one Berian had, as the only ship of that class actually got away somehow, but it's the second biggest nontheless. Some pride would be felt in the ogre, until the look of uncertainty returned to him.
"Sir Verkog?"
The ogre then looked to the lizardman.
"Right..."
Both of them would walk into the ship together. The lizardman went in first, then quickly running to grab onto a pole and hold it firmly before the ogre made the vessel to tip to one side before getting back.
"Chax, tell me... am I that heavy?"
"No offense sir Verkog" the lizardman then let go of the pole "But judging from your size, I would say yes"
"...That's only fair in my eyes"
...
Huh, I wonder what the time is... Hang on let me pull out my watch real quick... Oh what is this?
*Skirmish in Reslania o'clock*
The border with Varika, Reslania Even in the night, while the cold North has been getting abnormally hot, the Confederation just can't seem to take a break when it comes to their border with Varika and La Ferdina. Nobody knows why they keep trying like this even though it never goes well for them in the past, but for now, their focus is the fighting.
"Where they at? I can't see anything here!"
"Gunshots are that way" a soldier of the Confederation Army points at a specific direction to North-East "I also see tracers coming from there too. Don't know what kind though"
From their experience being a vassal, tracers are just regular bullets with illumination magic infused into it, and while there are some difference between one fired from musket and one from repeaters, it's still difficult to tell which is which.
"One thing is for sure is that it's not ours"
"Yeah, well obviously"
A small group of soldiers ran forward with the rifles in their hands. Taking cover behind some barrier and also some defilade, the safety lever is flicked down to fire before the first CA shots were fired in the form of a short burst of full auto.
Note that they can't really see anything in the night so they have to rely on the opposing muzzle flash and a lot of guessing based on the information given.
"Another contact to our right!"
"How the hell are we supposed to hit them?"
"Just spray and pray you hit something!"
While the night sight does help out a little, pretty much every Reslanian man with a gun resorted to firing in full auto into the dark. Even their sniper pulled out his pistol and start shooting at where he felt where the enemy was.
CRACK
"Shi- That's definitely a repeater!"
"SILENCE THEIR GUN FOR FUCK SAKES!"
Machine guns would join in the cadance with a lot of tracers now flying around in the field, at where muzzle flashes were seen.
"Crap I think I won't hear a thing after this..."
After awhile, the party of full auto with occassional resting for reloading would then quiet down, as the Reslanian could not see anymore flashes coming for them. They wait in anticipation, and waited and waited. And after a really long while... there wasn't a single shot heard again.
"Did they run away or something?"
"I think so..."
"By the gods man..." the soldier took out his mag with his right hand, checking it "How many times do we have to teach them this lesson?" the soldier then rocks it back into the the rifle.
"I don't know" the other then puts his rifle down on the ground by its stock "I guess it's as long as La Ferdina is still considered a superpower in this continent"
"Superpower my ass... speaking of which why don't we just invade them?"
"To be honest, it's probably the fact our priority is the economy. We can't wage war without money and resources after all"
"Fair point"
...
The Commander-in-Chief of the Confederation Army facepalms in his office having received multiple reports about skirmishes around their border areas with La Ferdina and Varika.
"This happens so many time" said Yehor "It's not even funny anymore!"
"Well I mean..." said a staff under his subordination "It's La Ferdina and Varika after all"
"I know, it's just that why do they even bother trying again and again? It's like the definition of insanity or something..."
"At least our troops would get some experience out of those though"
"...You know I admit that as well, they're helping us a lot on this one"
...
Northern Animaatland, 11/10/2017 In the midst of an ongoing Geschnokean exercise in the snowy field, drones having been buzzing around at distance watching how the troops there doing.
"I can't lie this looks surreal" said the drone operator "It's like watching the 1914 in HD or something"
"Since when was this world not surreal itself?" said another soldier accompanying him as he viewed the screen "It's us in a fantasy world after all"
The drone operator nodded in agreement while both watched the Geschnokean as they rehearsed some of their tactics that is characteristic of a classic trench warfare, coupled with bolt action rifles and HMGs.
The opposing team armed with sword and clubs would charge at the trench before swiftly being 'gunned down' by the trench dwellers and their weapons.
"...You know I always wondered how they would react to a literal tank" said the soldier accompanying the operator.
"Probably the same as those Promaxians did back in 1917"
Tanks were brought to the life of warfare by Builtish forces in a war that happened between their side and Promaxia and its allies. The Crafarean War as it was called at the time basically made the foundation for armored warfare, although it didn't mature as much as today.
Oh and by the way, Webtana and Crafare is different. One is a region in a continent and one is the said continent.
"I would have guessed that too!"
"Yeah yeah, can we just shut up and enjoy the show now?"
"Right"
...
A utility vehicle of the Flash Land Army cruises down a small highway transiting in the North of Svarher in a foggy day.
"What a shitty weather isn't it?" said the driver.
"I mean, it's expected to be this way" said the passenger "But yes, it is really crap"
The vehicle continued to cruise at a moderate speed with headlights on in a brief silence.
"You know" said the driver again "I still can't believe we somehow got into a new world, losing all of the previous contacts from the previous in the process. And now we're dealing with a potential threats from demons apparently"
"Shit just happens man"
"Yeah, like it happens a lot that I don't know what's real and what's not anymore"
Again, quietness reigns over the vehicle's interior for awhile.
"Hey do you think that we'd be fighting those sooner or later?" this time, it would be the passenger that breaks it.
"Probably, just imagine if we get sprung into such action right now-" immediately after that, armed lizardmen entered the view in the fog "What the-?!"
The vehicle then swerved to the left side of the road, passing a few more alongside some goblins before one would end up right in front of the window after being rammed. The goblin tried to recover, raising his club up as if he's going to wack the vehicle while the passenger quickly unholstered his pistol.
BANG-BANG BANG BANG
Four shots of 9mm went out the windshield and into the goblin's body before it lifelessly fell off the vehicle, leaving traces of blood on the vehicle.
"Priority message!" said the driver in a panicking tone to the radio he hastily picked up while the vehicle accelerated "Unknown hostile contacts seen on M53 Highway!"
"INCOMING BEHIND US!"
The vehicle then quickly swerved back into the right side before a beam of some sort went past them, changing the left side mirror's pronoun into was/were.
"I REPEAT! UNKNOWN HOSTILE CONTACTS ON M53!"
...
Welp this marks the second time a Flash island gets invaded or third if count the assassin part
Patch note (16/10/2024): Can't really go a chapter without post-publishing fixing huh? (2/3/25): Changed the outdated designation to the correct Pansar 97 (thx @Danilocaba for reminding me this)
