I woke up later than usual this morning mainly due to my injuries and how tired they made me. I didn't panic as my alarm on my iPhone 4 was set earlier than needed entirely for this a reason.
It was currently 5:45 and I needed to muster up the strength to shower in order to get to work on time.
I struggled massively. Every time i managed to get up my arms gave out which resulted in my ribs hurting even more.
Time was passing and i just needed to do it. I made sure to get to my knees whilst holding my hand over my mouth so I don't make a noise.
It took a while but i succeeded, and hobbled to the shower. I only had 15 minutes to shower, so i used the time witching the freezing water wisely.
The last time i used an ounce of hot water i was squirted down with the hose in the front yard and left outside for the night. Never again.
I guess they found out through the water bill or something.
I had trouble washing my hair as I couldn't move my left arm over my ribs. I think my shoulder was damaged as well.
Ill tell you now, it's very hard to wash your hair one handed. It's even harder trying to cook breakfast as well. There wasn't much left, so they had eggs and toast.
I got my bag and headed out of the door before I could hear their opinions on my food. I liked being out of the house before they woke up.
It gave me a piece of mind.
I loved that it was summer right now, as i didn't need a coat. I didn't own a coat and i usually froze during the winter.
I'd usually skate to where I needed to get too but seeing as my body was beaten I couldn't.
It's the only thing I've ever bought with my money and it makes things so much easier.
Today was a Saturday and i worked from 7 until 4. Then i went to the gym to teach the little girls for an hour. Usually i would have an hour to myself with Coach afterwards as well.
The diner was empty except for the manager. He is really secluded. He does his stuff and then he dips.
The restaurant was passed down through his family and most of us just thinks he doesn't want to be here. I cant judge him.
As time passes more fo the staff come in. My hair gets ruffled be every one of them. Terry, one of the chef's is the worst. I try and chase him after he does them but I'm never fast enough.
We have a little game going. I get a point every time i do it back to him. I think it's currently 198 to 0.
Yeah its been going on for a while. It's like he has this sense of me coming ready to mess up his flop of hair. I kind of see him as a father figure. He's the one who cooks my fries as well, as he knows I like them extra crispy.
"Hey squirt, ready to work for your fries?"
Terry appeared out of nowhere.
"You bet!" I replied as he nods and messes my hair up. I try to glare at him but i dint think it works. Ill chase him later when he's least expecting it.
The diner picks up straight away with people coming in for coffee's and some breakfast. Mostly our usual customers who have some small talk with me.
It wasnt until around 11am that i got my first weird customers, not in a bad way though.
These 2 boys came in. They were both dressed in suits, and were looking at this place as if it was trash.
They're obviously not from around here. This is the nicest diner around in this area.
I didn't really want to serve them as they were judging the diner, which had the best people in it.
I disliked people who judged things straight off the bat.
I tried to find Barry, the other waiter but he was busy with another table. I sighed as I realised I would have to go to these guys' table.
As I walked closer I could see how rich they were by their watches and phones. I'm pretty sure they both had Rolex's.
What were they doing in this town?
None of them acknowledged my presence as they were talking seriously.
I sighed and got my notepad out for their order
"Hello, what can I get you guys today?"
I think I shocked them as it was obvious they didn't expect my presence.
I waited for their order but they just kept looking at me as if I was a ghost. Did I have something on my face? No I didn't think so.
Why were they looking at me like that?
"Um excuse me but you kinda need to order something."
It didn't stop them in any way, so I decided to just leave and come back.
"Ok I'll give you so time and then me or my partner will be back for your order."
As I turned, happy to be out of that situation I was called back by a desperate plea.
"No, wait we are ready!"
I looked at them both with one eyebrow up telling them how awkward they were acting.
I think they got the hint as they got some composure to themselves straight away.
The two boy were obviously brothers. They looked so similar with black hair and blue eyes with tanned skin.
They kinda looked like me. Coincidences like this happen. It's not weird to look like other people.
Plus there's a 1/135 chance you'll meet your doppelgänger one day.
"Ok, are you sure? Because we are open 24/7 so technically you could be here all night deciding." I say trying to break the ice of the awkwardness at this table.
I don't know if it worked but they started having a gleam in their eye whilst the youngest looking one of the two seemed to be holding in a laugh. The other ones face was not moving at all. Like a statue.
"Um yeah. We are ready. How long can we stay here if we are paying customers?" Another one asked.
I've had a couple of people sleep here due to some things they didn't want to face. I always let people stay here as long as they order something every 6 hours and don't stay longer than 3 days.
These men didnt look like they needed anything but you can never assume what's going on in someone's life
"The policy is 8 hours, but between you and me if you are in trouble there is a back room you guys can stay if you really need it"
They looked at me again as if I was off my head.
These guys are weird.
"That's awfully kind of you but my idiot brother here just meant for the day" The oldest one said whilst elbowing the other guy.
"Well as I said the diners open 24 hours a day so if you are being a customer and don't need help basically forever." I said looking at the two as if they had lost some brain cells.
"Oh silly me. Anyway can we get 2 black coffee's please" The same guy asked.
"Really, no sugar nothing?"
"No, we want it black like our souls please" the youngest one said deadly serious which made me back away a little.
I give them an awkward smile whilst the obviously older one looked like he could kill the kid.
I gave them an awkward thumbs up and walked away to get their soul like coffee. I could feel their gaze still linger on me as I walked away and I had to refrain from walking weird.
Barry met me at the counter and asked whether I was ok as he looked towards the boys who were discreetly looking at me.
"You ok with those customers? You know I can take them if you want squirt?" Barry said concerned
"No, it's ok. They seem nice just conserved. And I'm literally 2 weeks older than you so how am I being called squirt now ?"
"Because you're tiny, and I decided to team up with Terry, see you squirt." He replies whilst ruffling my hair!
Ugghhh I have enough on my hands with Terry doing it now Barry?
I laugh it off and make the order.
After I gave the brothers their coffee with a minimal reaction from them I had my break.
I come from the break room and almost bump into the youngest brother.
His humour face was gone and was now replaced with a serious expression.
"Are you limping?"
Confidence is the key to making people believe you.
No stuttering or flinching
"Yeah I fell off my skateboard the other day and twisted my ankle a bit. It's on its way to healing" I said with the most confidence I could muster.
He looked as if he didn't believe me even though that had to be the best performance of lying straight to someone's face.
He looked hesitant to ask something.
"Um is there any way I could uh get your name? Not in like a weird wa-
"MARCO, WE NEED TO GO NOW!"
The guy looked as if he couldn't decide what to do. Giving me an apologetic glance he ran out with his brother.
I would've given him my name. He seemed nice enough.
The day went on as usual. I got my fries and was ready to head to the gym until I realised I forgot my grips.
I could not go to practice without them as I did not want to rip my hands on bars before the competition.
I realised I had no choice but to go home. I just had to pray that my foster parents weren't home.
If they were I'd either have to sneak in which I really didn't want to do or just risk going without.
Luckily I had enough time for the detour. I had a gut feeling that something was wrong but I thought nothing of it.
Not until I turned up to my house to see police tape and officers all around and outside it.
What!?
