"You have disappointed me, my wife. Utterly disappointed me."
Nancy fisted her hands into a ball. Her knuckles were going white. She slowly raised her head to Damon who took notice of her narrowed eyes and pursed lips.
"Doing what exactly, my husband?" Nancy questioned back but then looked at Arnold again. Only a moment ago he was full of life. He must have a family but all was destroyed in a blink.
"Look at yourself. You don't even care if his blood soils you. You look pathetic mourning your lover."
Nancy touched the blood on the floor and raised herself to her feet. She came at Damon getting her hands on his face. "Is this what your problem, huh? You can't look at someone more handsome than you. Is this your problem?" Her voice was filled with resentment.
"More handsome than me." Damon raised his brows.
"He was," Nancy pressed as if it was the only fact in the room.
"Did you fall in love at first sight?" Damon inquired.
"Oh, I did, yes, I did. What will you do now? Kill me? Kill me!" Nancy shouted the last two words which echoed well in the space.
"I did nothing wrong then. I protected your heart from wandering more..." Nancy cut him off by vigorously shaking her head and came close to his mouth to whisper.
"You are pathetic." Nancy felt his gun on her belly and smiled wider.
"Come on, kill me. I will join Arnold in the afterlife. Or whatever it is." Nancy gritted challenging him.
"Burn in hell for all I care." Damon gritted,
"You will be the one in the hell, Damon Anderson. You!!!" Damon laughed shaking his head. "You think you will go to heaven after checking out another man in front of me,"
"Well, I couldn't help. He was handsome." Nancy tried to hurt his ego.
"Stop calling him handsome or I will have to teach you good..." But Nancy was quick to cut him off.
"You would have killed me if you wanted to. Deep inside you know what you did was for nothing but to satisfy your male ego. It was nothing more than you trying to show me that you can do anything with impunity. You know that he wasn't my lover. You know that he was only doing his job. You know that you killed a man simply because you were jealous...ahh..." Nancy gasped when Damon pulled on her hair to make her stop. Nancy spread her lips in a tight smile. And, even enduring pain she managed. "...and, you know you are..." Nancy gasped a little before completing. "...insecure."
Damon stopped breathing momentarily before he tilted his head and added quite calmly, "Let's take it somewhere else," Damon started dragging her out but Nancy put a fight against his hold. Her weak arms weren't able to do any harm. "Why? When you can raise questions on my loyalty why can't we discuss your insecurities?"
"There is no need to dry our dirty laundry while having ears around," Damon warned,
"Now you are caring about our dirty laundry...Damon, leave me. Leave me!!!" Damon noticed how she had started calling him by his first name. Damon had an iron fist on her hair and Nancy couldn't help but walk along with him.
Only half an hour earlier the band that witnessed a lovey couple ascending the escalator were now observing a couple no one would want to look up to. Nancy sobbed louder telling him. "You can't tell me that you love me and then slut shame me...ahh..." Nancy struggled to get free with her both hands clawing on Damon's fist that was sucking the soul out of her body. The pain was immense and fueled Nancy's desperation to get free.
"What are you going to do, huh? Kill all the men in the world...Damon, you are hurting me!!!"
Damon shook her head to him before gritting. "Stay quiet and it won't hurt," Nancy bit her mouth and started walking with him. At this moment she didn't feel more than an animal who he was trying to tame by inflicting pain.
Her dress had a huge bloody stain on the front while Damon's dress pants seemed a little wet at the bottom. The guards opened the door for them while their car was waiting already.
Damon opened the door and pushed Nancy in before kicking the door shut. Nancy couldn't help but break into sobs. She hated herself to ever let her believe that Damon could change for her. She almost believed he was capable to love and keep her safe.
The moment Damon got in, the car started without Damon ordering. The closed space of the car smelled of Arnold's blood. The night had turned into a grieving sin and filth soon. The air around them was horrified with the lingering sense of loss. The loss of trust and hope weighed heavy on Nancy's chest while the loss of loyalty was raging in Damon's veins. Their car hadn't left even the driveway when Nancy announced. "I find your driver handsome. Handsome than you. And, your security guard..." Damon started undoing his tie while Nancy kept adding to the list. "...and your favourite chef and butler..." Pulling Nancy's hair, he started to wrap the tie around her mouth shutting her up. Nancy first struggled but then only looked at him with her eyes wide. And, the moment she tried to make muffled words Damon shouted, "Quiet!!!
Nancy got her hands at the back of her head and started undoing the tie when Damon caught her hands and held them in Nancy's lap by using only his one hand. Nancy noticed her nails on Damon's hand. It had red spots in a lot of places. She didn't feel sorry for him. Instead, it made her recall how ruthlessly he pulled onto her hair and dragged her to the car.
She didn't fear what Damon would come up with this time. If this was where he wanted to kill her, she would embrace her fate. She couldn't possibly live with a man who would slut shame and drag her around in front of his staff and other people. The same people who were envying her a moment ago were shown only a time later in the hell she was living. At this time, Nancy was tired of hoping and waiting. And, had finally realized that it was never going to end.
Damon could feel her sobbing and heaving but didn't look at her. Until he felt her tears dropping on his hand. For a moment he wanted to hold her and coaxed her heaving body. But the moment he recalls how he extended the gun to her and she refused to kill the man he ordered her to abstain from feeling sorry for her. And, if all of it wasn't enough, she mourned his death. She dared to publicly mourn the death of the person he had killed. He couldn't forget the taunts at his feelings while calling him out as jealous and insecure. He clearly saw the passion where she didn't care about dirtying herself in the blood. All of it was adding to his rage. But her constant shivering while he had held her hands in her lap was knocking the ice out of his heart.
He gulped hard while realizing attraction could happen. If his wife had managed to keep her virginity intact while living in a place where spreading legs could get women a simpler life. He should give her some credit for not acting on her whims. He could see Arnold was handsome enough to win any woman's heart but wasn't his wife is someone who has shown some strength of character in the past. And, then her hot tears dripping on Damon's hand made his heart of ice melt. There was no ice but hot spring showers open when he gave up.
"I can't..." Damon leaned over her body and held her close. "...please, calm yourself down." This made Nancy to sob louder. "Don't worry. I won't punish you for this. Just calm down." Nancy's mouth was getting sored with his tie fastened but Damon forgetting she couldn't speak took it as her giving into his arms too. He scooped her with his arms to his lap and started rubbing her heaving back. "Don't think much. Just calm down." He didn't want her to sob anymore. He wanted to take care of her. She was the woman he wanted to offer the world to.
Nancy's fragile body fit his arms fine. Like they were made for each other. Damon held her hand that was dipped in Arnold's blood not long ago and rubbed it to make Nancy feel warm. "You have disappointed me but I hope for a future where you don't feel shame and fear on what your husband decides to do with other people." Nancy only sobbed harder. But then taking notice of her gag he pulled on the tie to free her from the torture.
Nancy didn't try to fight this time. And, it only encouraged Damon to say more all the while he rubbed his hand on the side of her face. "Did it hurt?" The place where he had tied it had a red mark already. Nancy remained quiet. She didn't dare to speak her mind.
"I got berserk while seeing you seeing him." Nancy looked into his eyes. It was beyond her comprehension. The pain Damon had admitting to this showed he was hurt badly.
"I wasn't..." Nancy barely managed.
"I believe you," Damon said reassuring her. And, this made Nancy stop breathing. Just like this, he was trying to make amends. Forgetting altogether that he killed a man with his bullets. Giving into his jealousy has cost a person his life. A family their loved one. He put an end to thousands of dreams and hopes while expecting his life to go as smoothly as it was before.
A tear slid over her cheek while their car came to a stop. It was running too fast they were home earlier than Nancy had expected. "Don't fear a thing. Don't fear me. Just smile as you were before. Let's put it behind us." Saying this Damon smiled a little to encourage Nancy to smile too. But Nancy shivered witnessing his apathy.
"I got you scared. Didn't I?" Damon pulled her to kiss the side of her mouth before pulling her into a warm hug.
Someone opened the door for Damon but seeing him holding his wife he closed the door again. Damon opened the door after five minutes. He was the first one to step out and pick Nancy out in his arms. But all Nancy could recall was the rage that had pushed her into the car. Nancy looked away when it got too hard for her to look into his eyes.
Damon didn't know why she looked mad but he could tell she was. Was she embarrassed too that he called out her checking out another man while they had an audience? But didn't she have to think about it before committing this kind of adultery? Don't think about that Damon. Or you will ruin the night again.
Damon smiled while entering the room but was quick to get her into the bathroom. Their bath was already ready with petals floating in the bathtub. The dim light was adding to the right tone. But inside their hearts, everything was crumpled upon. Nancy was disgusted by the horrors of the night that had rolled out while Damon was too on the edge. He was acting absolutely opposite to what he truly wanted to leash out. All he wanted was to yell and tell Nancy how she made him feel tonight. He wanted to drill in her head what he would want the next time. And, punish the fact into her bones that her thoughts, heart and eyes all belonged to him and should serve him. But wrapping it all in his raging veins he was keeping his smile.
He wanted to believe that a pious woman like Nancy deserved this patience he was trying to exhibit at least now.
Nancy noticed his raging vein right over his temple but the madness and smile on his face made her feel otherwise. Damon got her feet on the floor and started undressing her. "Have you ever heard of a black eye? This is exactly what we got. The next time we aren't going to have people around." He noticed Nancy's heaving body. And, it was for the first time not with fear. He could see the anger steaming off her. But he expected she would bottle it up too as he was doing.
"Let's get you clean." Damon tugged on her waist and wanted her to get into the tub but Nancy refused to budge. And, this made Damon gulp a little before he stated. "Don't you dare put on a show now? I told you it is behind us now. And, we act like it. No matter how fresh the incident is." Nancy looked away and shivered a little before a tear slid down her face again.
"Fine,..." Damon said passing her and grabbing a washcloth. "...I can't see that bastard's blood on your body." He dipped it into the bathtub and sat at the edge of the bathtub. Damon held Nancy's wrist and pulled her in. Nancy sobbed when Damon started rubbing the washcloth over Nancy's body.
He still had his suit and shoes on. He kept dipping the cloth into the water and rubbed it all over Nancy's belly and then on her thighs and the sides. Water gathered around their feet making the floor slippery. Damon turned her around and started rubbing the washcloth on her rear and it only made Nancy sob more.
And, not wanting to lose his temper Damon kept telling himself. She is having a moment. She is overwhelmed. She must fear their relationship almost got ruined. His ego was getting inflated with anything it could get. He was trying to do anything that could calm himself.
Nancy felt his hands going to her knees and then her calves. He was cleaning her as if she was a three-year-old who couldn't take care of herself. But standing there facing her back to Damon who was rubbing her body clean Nancy was realizing her position now. She was nothing and everything that could go wrong. She had nothing in her control. And, tonight wasn't an exception. She couldn't do anything about it. Arnold's blood wasn't in her hands. She could plead and she did. She could beg and so she did. She knew it would welcome her ruthless husband's wrath but she didn't care. She fought with bravery and lost. She had a baggage full of guilt on her back. She wasn't trying to deny her part in Arnold's murder but was finally realizing her limitations because God forbid what she would have to endure at the devil of a husband's hands if she kept with this attitude.
Nancy was finally realizing that it was fool of her to believe she could change Damon. The hurt was only coming from the blow she didn't see coming.
It was easier believing that she was limited and couldn't do much. Damon's hands around her legs remind her of the time when Damon told her that she would always feel suffocated in his hands. She sighed heavily and couldn't balance herself falling on her back. Damon caught her right in time and made her sit on his knee before coming to hug her.
"Calm down, honey. Nothing will ruin what we are trying to build." Damon started kissing the back of her shoulder and Nancy held his head when it started stinging her.
Damon laughed a little before falling into the bathtub with his back. He pulled Nancy right into it too. He pushed his foot on the edge and pulled Nancy to the other edge with him. He lay there letting his suit show the traces of blood too into the bathtub. The smell was still persistent in the air. The thought that the man who could come between them now had his blood in their bathtub gave different kinds of senses to Damon. Nancy had her head lying on Damon's shoulder. She had her eyes shut. Damon tilted his head to look at her face and then combed her hair back to her head.
A lot of thoughts were passing through Damon's mind. Each calms him down more. For he had his lover in his arms. He kissed Nancy's head before letting his arm rest on Nancy's chest.
Nancy opened her eyes finally after half an hour. She noticed Damon's arm. He was still in his entire outfit. His wrist watch was still working underwater. Damon curled up his mouth finding Nancy finally calm. He kissed her head and wanted to warn her against ever leaving him but then felt the moment was precious.
He was proud of himself for not destroying their progress so far. This night could have turned into a nightmare but he decided to calm his wife down. Damon was positive that step after step he will be able to build the kind of trust he wants from his wife. This incident made him realize that he loves his wife more than he previously believed. He kissed her head again and this time couldn't help to ask. "Tell me you will never leave me."
"You won't let me," Nancy replied in an instant. Damon got his hand on her arm and rubbed her. "I guess we did learn something from tonight. Didn't we?" His compliment didn't go well with Nancy and she tried to get up.
"I am getting cold."
"Right, let's get you in your nightgown." Damon had such calm on his face when he took Nancy out of the bathroom. He had a towel wrapped around his torso and offered a little smile to Nancy while lowering her on the bed. Nancy hated his smile. It was as if he was enjoying getting his wife back even after messing up. He was smiling but all Nancy could imagine was about Arnold's family that was going through a great loss.
"Did you say you were getting cold? I can warm you up." Damon whispered leaning to Nancy's face and sucking over her mouth a little. But the moment he pulled onto her hair and tilted her head to suck on her neck Nancy looked at the ceiling with her empty eyes. "You are right..." Damon said coming to mount her. "...I will never let you go. Not now. Not ever."
It was dark in the room and Damon's grunts were getting louder alongside Nancy's gasp for air. Damon was claiming his marital rights over her body while Nancy was trying her best to cope with him. The act wasn't something she was having a hard time dealing with. It was his suffocating claims that he whispered into her ears.
"You are mine, only mine." It would jolt Nancy's consciousness and make her realize how she was only his. She wasn't even her own anymore. She was only his.
Damon came to a stop and pressed himself even more onto her while releasing himself in her. Nancy gulped when Damon rested his head beside her face.
"It had been a long day. Sleep." Nancy turned her face around and refused to respond. Damon straightened and kissed her head before holding her head to his chest. He lightly patted her and waited for her to sleep. But when Nancy didn't budge and kept looking at nothingness Damon added,
"Well, I guess it is going to be a long night too." Damon lit a cigar. The smoke started blurring everything in sight. Damon was halfway through his smoke when Nancy asked,
"Why didn't you kill me?"
"Still scared? Why would I kill you?" Damon asked back.
"Don't lie. I saw it in your eyes. You believed that I was unfaithful..."
"And, I was right. I know the patterns, Nancy. Did you notice how he changed his walk when he was coming to you? He was for sure hard looking at you." Nancy shut her eyes disgusted. She could tell that some talks outright disgust women but Damon wasn't the one to care about it. She had to bear it with him all their lives.
"You...sinned by shedding an innocent's blood..." Nancy's voice had a crack.
"Yes, now we are talking. After having sex. Usually, sleep follows after sex." Nancy wanted to tell him that making love doesn't mean everything was perfectly fine. But he wasn't really her husband. Marriage vows aren't what she agreed on. She has only vowed herself into submission. So, she didn't have any authority to seek answers.
"Say it," Damon encouraged her.
"You...embarrassed..."
"Don't go there. I have never been this embarrassed in my whole life. But I am sucking it up good. So, do you."
Damon liked how she didn't bring up Arnold anymore. She was talking about themselves. Something that mattered.
"Aren't you even a little bit..." Nancy choked on her words and this made Damon wonder what she wanted to talk about.
"What? Complete it?..." Nancy sighed and refused to talk. She wanted to turn around to hide her emotions and face but Damon refused to let her go.
"Talk to me. You have started it..." Nancy hated why she forgot that he wasn't someone she could talk to.
"Nothing, you look murderous..."
"I can look murderous. My marriage was at the stake. And, my wife didn't stand by my side. Yet, we are here making love in this sheet because I let go of the grudge and didn't seek vengeance. You have become the death of me at this point. Sometimes, it feels that I am the only one trying for this marriage. Not to forget you looked even more murderous when you raised your voice at me." Damon laughed a little at the end but then offered her his cigar. It took Nancy a moment to realize he was offering her the smoke.
"No, thank you." Nancy refused,
"Do you want me to get you something else? We didn't have the dinner..."
"No," Nancy denied the offer.
"Is there anything else you want to talk about before we put even this night behind us?" His nonchalant tone informed Nancy that he was beyond talking. Her talk could do nothing but only make her life more miserable.
"No, I don't," Nancy replied,
Damon smiled and audibly sighed in relief. "What a relief. And, just to inform you. I didn't look murderous because you embarrassed me. Deep inside I was mad at the loss of what we had. But when you..." Damon extended himself to the other side and stubbed his cigar.
"...But when you cried in the car. I realized there is no use of my power if I can't keep my wife safe from my anger." Where Damon was expecting a compliment from Nancy she didn't even respond. To which Damon laughed a little and rolled over her. "It seems you can go on for a second round. You don't seem in need of any sleep."
Nancy knew she had little to no say in this. If he had decided for a second round he could go on. Nancy felt his breath fanning his neck. Damon combed her hair a little and added in a whisper. "I only controlled my anger because I realized in time that my wife isn't someone who would have acted on her whims and would give into temptation. I just know. I trust you. But the moment you ever gave me a reason. I think..." Damon paused a little. And, Nancy too raised her eyes to look right into his. Because she could feel his breathing getting laboured. Whatever he was thinking, only the thought was enough to shake him. "...I think I will boil you in a large pot of water. And, warm you up really good." Nancy could already imagine herself in such a situation. And, she was convinced he hadn't thought about it just now. He must have inflicted this pain on someone else in the past.
Sensing her discomfort Damon combed her hair again with his fingers. "Just don't worry. I know you are not that kind of woman. Remember...remember you said it yourself when we met. I have only started to truly believe it now. Am I wrong doing so?" Damon asked making Nancy shake her head. "No,"
Damon kissed her slowly before dipping his tongue into her mouth. And, pulled away to smile. "Of course, I am not wrong. You won't let me go wrong."
