What the fuck? You don't think I am someone who can be loyal. Don't you?" At first, Nancy didn't think much of it but when Damon raised himself on his palms she wondered if it really meant something to him.
"I didn't say it." Nancy denied,
"Yes, you didn't say it but it is all on your face." Nancy narrowed her eyes because looking at Damon it seems she was in trouble.
"I only meant..." Nancy looked away because he was too close. But Damon quickly held her head and made her face him again. "Yes, elaborate?" Damon asked keeping his eyes at Nancy's mouth.
Nancy gulped and gasped while managing. "I only said it so you affirm that you would be loyal to me. It was stupid move."
"Oh, really?" Damon's expression softened. Nancy nodded realizing he was right about the warm and humid weather. Their bodies were sticky. Damon got off to her right side and held her chin to him before telling her. "You are the only woman for me. As long as you are breathing, I won't ever go to another woman."
Nancy recalled how he often expected her to get possessive for him. So, she read the room, "But you will after I die." But this got Damon's expression hard. He trailed her lower lip with his thumb and whispered, "Don't you ever dare bring up the topic of your death. You are never dying. You can't die." Damon got down to kiss her and sighed, pulling away.
"Tell me you won't die before me. You won't ever leave me." Nancy didn't know why but after a long time she was seeing someone worried for her. Even though her brain was screaming to not fall for the monster who had madness in his eyes her heart was fluttering and wanted to claim this moment. Despite the fact she believed his feelings were fleeting and she was irreplaceable in his life his eyes at the moment were genuine with her. Only now Nancy realized how lonely she had been. Because if her heart wanted to get involved with a monster like Damon, she knew she had problems that should be addressed.
"Say it," Damon pressed her waist more to him.
"I won't die,"
"That's like my lady," Damon leaned to her mouth to kiss her again and pulled away to press his mouth to her temple.
Damon didn't care how they were on the wooden floor. He was mesmerized by the sight of the woman in his arms. Though he didn't like how his stare makes Nancy uneasy he wanted her to ease into this.
Damon took her out after half an hour. Nancy was only wearing her long shirt and panties. Damon walked far to get chocolate bars from the bag. Nancy sat on the huge rock and while waiting for him looked at the other side of the estate. It too had a huge vineyard and a home at a distance. Her hair was getting on her face so she pulled her hair into a small bun.
She noticed Damon was coming back with the bags. So, she started looking at him knowing well that he likes her attention. Damon offered her chocolate bars and Nancy accepted.
"Should we get going after this?" Nancy asked but visibly noticed the change in Damon's stance at her question.
"I wonder at what point you will stop these futile attempts to avoid me." There was a taunt in his voice. Nancy didn't think much of it and shook her head. "No, I was only saying it. You told your driver to,..."
"You don't have to worry about them." There was an edginess in his tone when he told her to not worry. Damon took the space beside her and ordered, "Come on, eat." Nancy started unwrapping the chocolate and took a bite. "How is it?" Damon asked when she swallowed.
"It's good," Nancy tried to smile.
"Good," Damon repeated her words as if affirming this is what she had said. Nancy munched over her chocolate before she recalled how Robert was coming to see him.
"Robert is coming to see you. What if we make him wait?"
"You can't do this, right?" Damon snapped this time. Nancy looked at him in confusion. "Do what?"
"Be what I want you to be." This only made Nancy more confused. "What?" She whispered wondering what was wrong.
"A lover?" Damon almost yelled,
Nancy wonders what she was lacking to qualify for the lover. "I don't get it."
"And, you won't. A lover never reminds her partner of his work affairs. She would do anything to make him stay a little more. She is possessive of the time he would spend with her. But all you do is push me away."
"I didn't mean to push you away." Nancy defended.
"It feels like it. Sometimes I wonder if you are doing it on purpose. Doing it subtly as if you are giving your best to not be obvious." Nancy shook her head and tried to clarify. "These were never my intention."
"You fucking care about the driver who would have to wait. And, care about Robert if he had to wait. But you would never care for the moment we are living." Nancy remained quiet but how Damon was heaving in anger had made her anxious. She didn't want to have this conversation anymore. She had done nothing to deserve any of it. Her eyes were filled with water now. And, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She didn't want to be yelled at.
"Fucking say something. This moment has already been ruined," Damon yelled even more.
"I don't know what I did." Nancy came out but her lack of knowledge boiled Damon's blood. He kicked the bag away before coming to shake her shoulders. "Why the fuck on the earth you don't! Do you have any fucking idea how hard it was for me to put your feelings above my last night? I cared about us. How can you be so fucking ignorant?" Nancy already had tears in her eyes. But even now she didn't get what he meant. "You are hurting me, my lord." She pleaded but it only made Damon get his grip tighter on her shoulders as he gritted. "Now, you know, right? Either you are hurt or not. This is all you know and care about." Nancy held his wrists to get his hold off but Damon shook her more and growled. "...I should have remembered when you said that all your attempts are to keep yourself safe from me."
"Damon,...please...ahh..." Nancy cried out in pain and this finally brought Damon out of the madness. He let go of his hold on her shoulders and stated, "I keep telling myself that only your presence is enough but no. I know that I want more." Nancy's hands holding his arm were shaking when she said, "I am trying my best."
Damon noticed how she was shivering in pain. How much he had told himself that he would make today worth it. But he had hurt her again. Damon hugged her and whispered, "Fuck, I messed up again. Didn't I?"
"I...I never meant to cut this time short. I only reminded you because you mentioned it earlier and...I...I...I..." Nancy was sobbing and Damon pulled her head to his neck. Damon started rubbing her back all the while calming her down. "I get it. I get it. I swear I don't know what got me. I haven't...I haven't let out the anger from the last night, I guess. It is all still boiling in me." Nancy only sobbed more and Damon pulled away and held her face in his hands.
"Remember when you smiled at Dario, I told you I don't want you to offer your smile to any man. And, this is exactly what you did last night at the mall. Tell me, how am I responsible?" Nancy who was too scared to react shook her head. "No, no, you weren't responsible for anything." And, this made Damon take a sigh of relief.
"And, yet you misbehaved. In front of the whole staff. And, I was standing there believing I had lost you." Nancy who wanted to do anything to calm his anger shook her head. "No, you haven't lost anything. I am with you. I will always be with you."
Damon widened his eyes at her response. This is what he was craving from her mouth. "Don't cry. Just calm down. You know what these sobs do to me. These make me restless. These got to me last night too. I told you, right?"
Nancy nodded and rubbed her tears away all the while explaining. "I thought...I thought I was helping you by reminding you...but I won't...I won't ever..."
"Oh...I overreacted." Damon admitted, "Maybe, maybe you are not the lover type. And, it is not in your hands." This made Nancy look at him. She wonders if she is in trouble for her lack of being a lover.
"What?" Nancy asked,
"You are different. You are different than the women I have been with." Nancy huffed wondering what new trial he wanted her to put into. "Look, I don't want you to change. You don't want to jump on me or at any opportunity to be with me, fine. I get it. You are a smart woman who can support someone. You can be loyal and keep your legs shut. You have your set of qualities. But all of these attempts where you use your brain to get away from me. I see it, Nancy. I see all of it."
"I didn't mean to make you feel that way..." Nancy tried to calm him but it felt like he didn't hear any of it when Damon added.
"I see all of it. And, it boils my blood. And, you have no idea how I tried to hide it with a smile last night." Nancy quickly held his hands and pleaded without stopping. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to. I am sorry..."
"Fine, I get that we started on the wrong foot. But you already know me. There is nothing about me that you haven't seen. I can't say it about my previous relationships. But you, Nancy? You have seen it all. More than what was necessary but all of it. And, you still chose to stay. You didn't run. I have put my trust in you that you can make it."
"I will," Nancy made the promise and Damon smiled. He wasn't edgy anymore. "I am proud of you. I already have a feeling that we are to go a long way." Nancy didn't respond to this one and he chuckled. "For the first one, all the way back to our home."
Nancy nodded and Damon picked up her bag. It took them an hour and a half but when his guards located them coming Damon had Nancy on his back and was holding two bags in his one arm while his other hand was supporting Nancy at his back. Nancy who didn't want to piggyback like this couldn't refuse Damon's offer when he asked her to on the way. She feared otherwise he would blame her for not wanting to hold him. Nancy had taken notice of Damon's wrath again. Whenever she let herself believe that he won't hurt her. His hands abuse their power and make the realization of her place quite clear. Whenever she let herself believe she would be safe in his hands they suffocate her to death. Only now she learned he was gauging her every move. She wasn't invisible. She had to be in this for real if she wanted to gain his trust. She had to play the character of his lover even when no one was watching. So, she could act naturally all the time. Or there was no other way.
Robert who was also waiting in another jeep at the end of the trail couldn't believe what he was seeing. Nancy was riding Damon's back. He doesn't remember another girl doing it with Damon.
When Robert arrived at the mansion and the staff told him about Damon's strange rule about not touching Lady Nancy he didn't believe Damon had changed to this extent. But now he was seeing with his eyes. He could tell there was something changed about Damon. But could Nancy forget whatever he had done to her? Or was she still coerced into accepting whatever Damon decides for them as a couple?
Damon came to a stop when he noticed Robert standing in a quite formal white suit. He helped Nancy get down and kissed her temple before gesturing her to get into the jeep.
Robert offered Damon a knowing nod and Damon smiled coming to him. "See, I told you I will get everything in control."
"That I can see. But what's with the touching policy? I heard what you did in the mall last night." The mention instantly brought tension to Damon's face.
"What do you think? It is what it is. No one touches her if it is not me." Robert narrowed his eyes.
"Does this..." Robert pointed to himself.
"If you think you are a man," Damon explained,
"How can I be on the list? Don't you trust me?" Robert whined,
"Do you want to touch her?" Damon questioned back.
"Why would I? No!"
"Then, don't look like it," Damon warned.
"And, what about killing her?" Robert's question removed any kind of humour from Damon's face.
"Who will kill her?" Damon challenged Robert in a blink. And, Robert saw something familiar in Damon's eyes. And, the moment he realized what he was seeing in Damon's eyes he whispered in disbelief.
"She...she is Ken's sister."
"She is my wife." Damon corrected,
Robert shook his head. Now, half amused. "I had asked you to trap her in love. But she has you on a leash like a Russian dog in two fucking days..." Damon punched his guts and Robert grunted. "Fuck,"
Damon got into the jeep where Nancy was waiting for him. Robert took it as a sign that he would be driving home alone. He looked at their jeep leaving and already wondered how this one would end.
Robert was to leave for Greece after midnight. He believed Damon wouldn't join him at the dinner table and would spend his fake honeymoon with Nancy. But he was proven wrong when Damon appeared at the dining table with Nancy.
"What a pleasant surprise?" Robert stood up to welcome his host.
"You should thank you, Nancy. She insisted that we should eat with you." Robert looked at Nancy and nodded, "Thank you," But was surprised when Nancy only nodded and got her attention back to Damon. The last he checked Nancy would do anything to avoid dealing with Damon but now it was all changed.
The help pulled the chairs for both Damon and Nancy and they took the seat making Robert resume his place too. Nancy was about to turn the plate up when Damon stopped her and did it for her.
"So, how's everything back home," Damon asked looking at Robert but he shrugged his shoulders. "I guess it's not important." The eye Robert offered him translated that it wasn't the dinner talk around women.
Damon looked at Nancy and smiled. He realized he had told and shown a lot to Nancy about what shouldn't be talked about in front of women. But at least now he could give her a break.
"You two tell me how your honeymoon is going?" Robert initiated,
"You guess?" Damon asked coming to hold Nancy's hand on the table. Nancy smiled when Damon picked up the steamed chicken and placed it on Nancy's plate. "Thank you," Nancy smiled and mouthed a thank you to Damon.
"Eat well; you didn't have a proper lunch today," Damon reminded Nancy, who nodded instantly. Robert raised his brows. It was something out of Damon's element. And for a moment, it made Robert wonder if all of it was an act. Wouldn't Damon be exposed if he tried so hard?
"Ahm, I think I am the guest. Make my plate too." Robert asked Damon to which Damon narrowed his eyes. "You wish,"
"Oh, yes I wish, I heard you bought the hills that too on the spot. It must have cost a fortune..." But cutting Robert off Damon laughed,
"Anything for the love of my life. You see she rarely asks for anything. So, when she praised the view. I knew what to buy her."
"What a smart choice," Robert praised Nancy but the moment he caught her gaze she shifted her eyes instantly to Damon again. Robert wonders what it is about. Nancy didn't do this when he met her on the wedding day.
Robert narrowed his eyes when he noticed Damon picked up the napkin and helped Nancy remove something from the side of her mouth. Something screamed in him that Damon could never do this as a matter of acting. He surely wasn't acting. But what was it? Was he treating Nancy as his new pet? Because the chances of this woman winning Damon's heart with such a slim figure were thin.
"Well, I don't think I am hungry anymore." Robert announced and Damon retorted, "Can happen to anyone who has eaten the two whole fishes?" Robert shook his head before telling him. "I will be in the study if someone is wondering."
"No one is wondering...have some water, honey." Damon shifted his focus on Nancy again. "Thank you, you have your dinner too. Should I make a plate for you?" Robert heard Nancy speaking and was frozen. The last Robert checked Damon was a wife-beater and he was the one who advocated for this woman's life for a few more days. Was she a witch? Only this could explain how she managed to get married to him instead of getting brutally killed and was now the apple of his eye.
Robert rolled his eyes walking out of the dinner when he heard Damon saying. "Don't worry about me. It's you who barely eats anything."
"He is gone," Damon announced, making Nancy sigh, "How was it?"
"What? You were natural at this." Damon complimented her and still fed her all the plate. Damon had requested her to put on a show in front of Robert and Nancy followed the order instantly.
"I am glad I was of some use." Nancy accepted the compliment with grace.
"Well, I can feed you all my life. It is fun." Damon said to which Nancy only offered a little smile. "It was," Nancy agreed without a blink. She didn't want to upset him. Her feet were going ice worrying about if he would snap the next moment.
"He isn't going to sleep tonight," Damon said but Nancy fisted her other hand under the table. She knew better than to pass any comment.
"If you don't mind. Can I go and talk with him?" Damon seemed to be asking for her permission. Nancy was about to say of course, but then recalled how he won't like it. So, she asked, "How long will it take you?" Nancy noticed how Damon's eyes were filled with lust in an instant. "Why don't you get into a nice lingerie and wait for me?"
"I can do it. But don't take much time." Nancy pierced her nails into her fist while talking to him. Damon held her face and extended himself to kiss her on the cheek. "I will be quick,"
Nancy opened her fist and tried to take a huge gulp of air when Damon too disappeared after Robert. This was getting even more suffocating. Nancy knew she was acting all of her waking minutes whereas Damon believes she was acting only in front of Robert.
Nancy looked at the plate but huffed before picking up the glass of juice. She was about to sip on it when she heard some glass breaking. She stood up from her place and walked into the kitchen from where the sound had emerged.
A wine bottle was shattered on the floor with all the contents spilt. The staff seemed to be panicking and it sure pointed to the worth of the wine. "What are you looking at? Clear it up..." Nancy was still speaking when a young teen maid jumped. "Master will kill me. He had called for this wine. And, we only had one bottle of this at the moment. This is so expensive. I will never be able to pay for it." While the other staff only looked at the maid with horror.
"Don't worry, tell him I bumped into you," Nancy told her but she looked terrified.
"My lady, please, please, save me." And, this made Nancy offer, "Relax, give me some other bottle of wine. I will bring him the wine." Nancy instantly realized what she was saying. Damon wouldn't like her there. Or else he would have already brought her with him to see Robert in his study.
The maid took out another bottle of wine and Nancy held it and started walking to the study. She was still in the hallway when Robert's voice became clear to her.
"What's with our lady not maintaining eye contact? She never exhibited such social awkwardness before." Damon lit the cigar and was trying to hide his smile while answering this one.
"I killed the last man she looked more than I would like. I guess this is what followed,"
"Why are you doing it?" Robert asked,
"Because she is the love of my life. I won't like her to admire something I can't give her." Robert had a face of disbelief. "Are you listening to yourself? Don't you think this has gone a little too far? But who cares? As long as you train her to attend the auction how she should be attending."
"Robert, I haven't come here to this study to talk about what has already been decided. Tell me where your search leads you to." Damon had cut him off but Nancy wondered what they were talking about. What was this auction about? What has already been decided? Little did she notice her hand was getting sweaty around the glass and it was getting difficult to hold on.
"We did track the money. It seems someone had paid those men from Italy. And, you are already here. I believe you have to be very cautious about the auction day."
"Italy?" Damon said as if trying to think what to do from here.
"Yes, it doesn't lead us anywhere from here. A lot of heads and their representatives have come here for the general meeting. And, also your hotel's auction is serving as a favourite piece of meat too. It will be difficult to decide who to friend and who to kill."
"I don't think we have to do much. Our enemy is aware that we would be in the general meeting. I feel that the time he would show himself to us is near."
"But before showing us his face, he would weaken us more. I fear he would attack our hegemony in some form. The importance of this auction only increases at this point. So, for now, focus on the Hotel's auction. It is the very thing for which you flew to Italy on the pretext of your honeymoon. But now it seems the honeymoon is all you are focusing on,"
"I guess you were the one who said that the most important part was to make Nancy comfortable with me. You are getting jealous. You were convinced that I wouldn't be able to woo my very own wife..." The glass breaking in the hallway made both men look at the door that was only slightly ajar.
Robert opened the door but his shoulder was hiding anyone who was standing at the door. "You enjoy this spilt wine. I can't accompany you when my wife is waiting for me..." Damon said passing Robert but the person he found in the hallway took his breath momentarily. It was none other than his wife. "Nancy?"
