Nancy paced around in her bedroom trying to figure out how to cancel this trip. She looked in the mirror and remembered her pregnancy. "Of course, I can use my pregnancy," she thought, but then she wondered what she would tell Damon. She wasn't even experiencing any pregnancy symptoms. But Damon didn't need to know this. She thought to herself and asked a maid to call for Damon to see her.
While she was waiting for Damon, Odelia walked in. Her head was high with ego as she made her way into their room. "Odelia, what a pleasant surprise. You are the one who heads everything around here. Don't you?"
But Odelia straight up came and stood against her. Her voice had much contempt when she said. "If you think you have Damon around, you are so wrong, my little flower. He has been good with his previous wives too. There had been women before you who thought they had won at it. But it all comes crashing down."
Nancy hardened her jaw before she warned. "I can throw you out of here for this,"
But Odelia remained standing on her feet. "You don't know anything about Damon, about his friends and his likes. He loves to torture. He didn't go hard on you because you were a woman or maybe because he didn't want to destroy a figure he could use. But he will soon show his true colours." Nancy knew this was where she couldn't let Odelia win.
"Do not worry about me. I don't need your warnings. What I want you to do is do your job. Get my shoes squeaky clean. What can I do? They say you are the best one at your work." The maid looked at Nancy shocked. Nancy was about to pass her when Odelia asked,
"Don't you want to know more?" Nancy smirked before she looked at her back. "No,"
"Not about his mother? It was Damon who caught her with another man. He is the one who told on his mother. Poor boy must have not realized she would be killed." Nancy didn't know why she was frozen and wasn't asking Odelia to shut her mouth already.
"I wonder if Damon's previous wives were murdered because they had lovers or Damon believed they had lovers." Odelia tried her best to unsettle her but Nancy recalled the moment when Damon found her on Giovanni. He trusted her even when he had seen her at her worst. She knew Damon was as smart as he was cruel.
Nancy smiled and asked her, "Are you finished or there are any other cards?"
"So, you play the strong I guess," Odelia stated,
"I know you can't be fired because Damon believes you handle his house perfectly. But I guess he won't be left with any choice if you jump out of the window. Or get bitten by a snake." This got Odelia's expression changed completely. But Nancy came at her and added, "I have survived a lot with Damon. You are the last person who will tell me what he can or can't do. My shoes?" Nancy told her before walking out to look for Damon.
Nancy knew she had to tell Damon about her not-so-well condition at the earliest if she wanted Damon to apologize for turning the invitation from Fyodor down.
She walked into his study and caught him busy on a phone. "Of course,..." Damon seemed busy talking about something on the phone.
"Who was that?" Nancy asked hoping it wasn't Fyodor when Damon put the phone down.
"It was Rossi's family's head, Mr. Leonarodo II..." But before Nancy could relax Damon added, "He got to know about our trip to Fyodor's invitation to his island. He was asking if his company could collaborate with Fyodor's for the natural gas."
Nancy vaguely reminisces how it was all her father's. But she has long made peace with the fact that it was all Fyodor's now. She didn't want anything back. She only wanted the safety for her brother and now her unborn child. Nancy gulped and looked lost in thoughts and it indeed got Damon's attention.
"What? You were down at the breakfast table. I told you to go get some rest. Why aren't you resting?" Nancy looked up and smiled at how he had started caring for her.
She wonders if she should tell Damon all about her past but then she recalls how once he told her that there won't be any secrets between them. And, she didn't say anything about her past. Nancy wanted to hope that Fyodor knew nothing about her but it was the same as the pigeon closing its eyes as the cat advances.
"Nancy?" Damon called for her attention when she didn't reply. Nancy wonders if Damon was saved from Fyodor. What if Fyodor plans to kill Damon to further his influence on Alaska? But she quickly shook her head. Fyodor couldn't do this. It wasn't even geographically possible. But Damon was unknowingly strengthening his potential enemy in the future.
"I wanted to talk about my pregnancy," Damon instantly got lines on his face. "What about it?"
"I don't feel good. And, I am tired all the time. I think..." But cutting her off Damon suggested,
"...that we should tone it down a little. I think I can do this much. What do you think of me?" Nancy groaned realizing he was talking about sex.
"No, it's not about that. I can't see myself flying to Bulgaria. It is so far from here." This got Damon puzzled.
"I thought...fine if you say so. We don't have to." Nancy finally let her breath out. But then Damon added getting back to his table. "Also, I guess you need some time away from me. Or I will only make you feel more tired."
Damon retrieved something out of his drawer but Nancy was focused more on his words. "What do you mean?" Nancy asked with a smile.
"Well, it means I will leave for the invitation without you. Let it go, look what I got you,"
Nancy looked at the two rings. She smiled looking up and asked, "What is this?"
"Rings. One for you and one for me." Nancy smiled and told him, "But I already have a wedding ring," Nancy showed him but Damon was quick to hold her hand and carefully removed the ring. "What are you doing?" Nancy laughed when Damon put a new diamond ring on her finger.
"This would remind you of this moment. A moment where I looked at you with so much love. And, you felt safe in my hands." Damon got his hands on her waist before coming to rest his right hand on her belly. Nancy rested her head on his shoulder for a moment before she too picked up Damon's ring and slid it onto his finger.
"This one should remind you that Nancy Anderson needs nothing but a life with you." Nancy really wanted to enjoy this moment but the looming danger on Damon had her heart at unrest.
Damon kissed her head and told her. "Should we go and see a doctor if you are tired all the time? I am sure they can get you something good." Nancy smiled and tried to keep him close. She didn't want any harm in Damon's way too.
"What about you too don't leave for Bulgaria? I want you here," This made Damon give her a genuine smile. He loved how his wife was trying to keep him around. "As much as I am touched by your request. I also need to stay away from you. So, you can get rest."
"I am fine with you. Really!" Nancy tried to press but Damon shook his head. "You don't look like it. You need to sleep and relax. I will come back before you would start to miss me." Nancy didn't know how to stop Damon. She didn't only want her baby and herself to be safe. She wanted Damon to be safe too.
"Fine,..." She thought about it a little before she told Damon. "...I am coming with you,"
"But you said..." Damon resisted,
"It's not like we are on a commercial flight. I will sleep." Nancy had her voice a little raised at the end. As if she was steeling herself and finding the courage to go on this trip.
"Fine, I heard you," Damon said before locking his mouth with hers. "But please get some rest. You look tense and tired."
Nancy wonders if she is this bad at hiding her emotions in front of Damon.
"Sure," Nancy replied,
Even though Nancy didn't want to go and see any doctor Damon took her to the same hospital where she was once admitted. This made Nancy wonder if Odelia was lying. Why would Damon name this hospital after his mother if she was a horrible woman? Nancy made sure to dress to kill. She owned the ground wherever she stepped.
They didn't have to wait for their appointment and a lady doctor was already waiting for them. Nancy didn't like it when she had to undergo the ultrasound. She didn't trust these tools but Damon insisted it was for her own good.
"It seems she is doing good. This...this dot here is your baby." The doctor pointed at the screen and Damon smiled before he chuckled. "He is just a seed and you have gotten such an attitude. Imagine him growing more. I wonder what..." Damon held her hand but Nancy was quick to get his head down and hold hers up. "...there is nothing your hands can't handle." She laughed a little before she too tried to get up and look at the screen.
"Come on, laid back. They will give us a picture." Damon told her.
"A picture?" Nancy asked, "What if I don't want it? I would like to keep him away from the evil eyes." Nancy replied,
"Really? Robert showed me the ultrasound. I will might show him ours." Damon smiled.
"No, you won't," Nancy stopped him. The doctor forwarded a clean cloth piece to Nancy. Nancy thanked her with a smile before she sat up trying to rub the gel off her belly.
The moment they stepped out of the doctor's office; Mr. Remington was waiting for them.
"Oh, Mr. Remington," Nancy said making Mr. Remington widen his eyes with surprise. "You remember my name."
"Of course, I remember your name." Nancy used her fake accent and pleasing tone. Damon knew she hated Mr. Remington just by Nancy's voice.
Damon was quick to give Remington a raised brow who was quick to apologize. "I only wanted to say hi and say congratulations for the baby."
"Damon darling, he performed the surgery on me. Or not. Who was the other one who did?" Nancy brought up the topic.
"We fired him immediately," Mr. Remington replied,
"As you should," Nancy agreed,
"What happened? What did that surgeon do?" Damon asked,
"Nothing, Damon darling,..." Nancy faked her concern for Remington. "...he was rude when I questioned him about some medication but Mr. Remington here..." Damon interrupted Nancy's speech with. "...is fired from his job." Damon completed for Nancy who tilted her head thinking they were caught up in a situation but didn't bother to care much.
"What did I..." Mr. Remington was speechless.
"You didn't only not train your surgeons better for how they would treat my wife of all the people but also came to bother us here when you knew we were having an important moment of our life. If you didn't care about my wife what you should have been doing to my men and their families." Damon asked,
Nancy dramatically put her hand on her mouth as if very touched by the situation but then added with a fake accent. "I think Damon darling has a point. But wait a minute, did you dare to raise a question in front of my husband's decision."
"Do you want him killed?" Damon asked Nancy but Nancy thought about it for a moment before she said, "Maybe you should turn him in. He has enjoyed quite a life outside the jail." This made Damon look at Mr Remington before he gestured for the two guards. "Hand him over to the sheriff. Tell them we have helped them find the prison breaker."
Damon couldn't help but ask Nancy as they were getting down from the hospital stairs. "You were playing with me, weren't you?" This made Nancy look at him. "Couldn't I?"
"It takes a huge number of resources to give a person a new identity. Mr. Remington was living here for twenty years after his prison break. He had built quite a comfortable life here,"
"And, that all came crashing down." Nancy smiled and Damon wondered why she was acting this cruel. "And, I thought only I was cruel," Damon replied,
"Of course, you are Damon darling," Damon opened the door of the car for her and Nancy got in. "How?" Damon asked the moment he got in. "How am I different from you here?"
"You helped a doctor twenty years ago to escape the prison when he was guilty of raping and murdering a sixteen-year-old girl. Only because he was offering money and could be a great addition to your sin city for a surgeon. He has been practising here even if he doesn't have a license anymore."
Damon understood her game. "First, it was a nice addition. Second, he hasn't committed anything in the last twenty years." Nancy smiled nodding her head. "Even if I buy your words, he is not eligible for kindness one bit. Karma always gets you. And, today the Karma got him,"
"What if Karma got for me one day." Damon didn't hesitate and asked for her opinion without coating one word. Damon's face didn't hide the tension. That was of doubts. He doubts the light his wife sees him under.
The car started and Nancy took her time looking at his face before she told him. "I have chosen you, Damon. And, I will not let anything reach you until the day I breathe my last." This got Damon to raise his brows. "Double standards much,"
"Think of it anyway. You are my child's father. And, my baby's father isn't going anywhere I am not going to."
"Well, this makes me recall the Bulgaria trip. Are you still on?" Damon asked and Nancy smiled, "Very much,"
