In the next few days, Damon seemed to be taking care of Nancy a lot. As they had spent some time in Italy a lot of stuff had piled up that needed Damon's attention. Though Nancy had ordered her staff to pack for this trip to Bulgaria she would look at the things they were packing on a daily basis with much apprehensions. A lot of scenarios would play in her mind but then each time she would remind herself that her husband was a strong man too. He has gotten allies too and Fyodor couldn't be this stupid to attack on her husband and her.
The evening before their travel Nancy tried her best to not show her worrisome face to Damon. Or knew he would leave her at home for her own good. She still couldn't courage up to tell Damon about Fyodor. But she certainly couldn't leave Damon alone to deal with it.
Damon told her how she would love it in Bulgaria. Or how he had fitted a larger bed for her on the plane and promised her that all of that would be hers. So, she would get a good sleep during the flight. Nancy knew this formal trip demanded of her to look impressive. And, Nancy had used this week to style her dresses, shoes and bags. A whole team had worked to prepare a wardrobe for her.
Robert came to see Damon for the evening tea knowing they wouldn't be able to see each other in the next few days. Nancy was enjoying the evening with her husband but smiled at Robert's arrival. "So, how's everything going?" Robert asked both Damon and Nancy about their packing.
"We are ready to leave. Make sure Fyodor's shipment arrives on time. I wouldn't like to lose my face." Damon replied,
"Isn't Robert coming with us?" Nancy asked to which Robert looked around. "I was never coming. The invitation was always for you and Damon. How can I come? It's an intimate trip where you two couple would enjoy a few days."
"Explain intimate?" Nancy asked,
Robert shrugged his shoulders looking at Damon for help. Damon gestured that he would take it from here. "Let me explain this to you. Even though they are not family we are going to kind of forget this fact and spend a few days without any interference from our staff. Also, they are hosting us. So, we will not take the number of guards we usually take but fewer. Only the necessary ones for the show." The more Nancy realized this information the more she was surprised.
"Why would we do this?" Nancy asked,
"Because it shows that we are not there for the war but for the friendly days out," Robert explained gesturing for a maid for the tea too.
"When we aren't certainly friends?" Nancy asked back.
"You got it," Damon told her.
"No, I didn't get it," Nancy announced having quite a firm and clear voice and Robert could tell something was coming from Nancy's mouth that was going to annoy him.
"What part?" Damon gave Nancy his hard face. The one he has started using her to signal to not disrespect him again in the face of Robert.
"At our wedding, you had exceptional security but still your friends brought an insane number of guards." Robert huffed leaning into his chair. He knew he had the better answer to this one so he beat Damon to it.
"It was because it was a wedding. In previous times, the guests would bring extra people to stop anyone who could attack the wedding for the dowry or take the bride away. I know we don't live in those times but at the wedding bringing the bulging guards is a sign that they stand with us and would let no harm come to this wedding. It was a wedding. What reasons do we have to bring our bulging guards to Fyodor and his wife? That would be straight-up disrespect."
Nancy who was out of reason only looked at Robert with so much contempt.
"You want to say something?" Damon asked Nancy. He was surprised that his wife was out of reason.
"He is a Russian. We are US men." Nancy replied,
"You are a Russian," Robert came so fast for this one. He didn't even think.
Nancy seemed to be shaking with anger when Damon asked, "Do you have any reasons left?"
"I don't need reasons, Damon darling. I want three hundred of our bulging guards who are great at every combat skill in the dictionary with us."
"What!..." Robert gasped now finally getting up from the garden chair. He paced around trying to cool himself down before he asked again. "Three hundred?"
"I didn't stutter." Nancy scoffed,
"Damon leaned into his chair before he looked at Robert. "She is right. We will do it."
"Damon, are you crazy? They have asked for you two. But you will go with three hundred extra men?"
"We have been to his island. He can easily accommodate all of our men with his." But Robert couldn't wrap his mind around this one. "Are you even thinking this through? What would Fyodor and his wife would think..." But then Robert trailed off looking at Nancy. "...Oh, I am a fool to even discuss it with you. The pregnant wife always wins. Who cares what Fyodor and his wife think when Damon has his pregnant wife ordering him?"
"Finally,..." Damon smirked before coming to hold Nancy's hand. "...you understand it. Nancy was always going to win this discussion. In fact, make it three hundred and twenty men. The ones who were going to us previously plus the numbers my wife has asked for," Nancy smiled at Damon's decision. She was finally relaxed for Damon had agreed to her suggestion.
"Why? I wonder why?..." Robert raised the concern again and Damon was quick to look at him. "Last time we had eight guards. We took our security lightly and we were attacked mercilessly. It was my wife who had to jump in the water even when she didn't know how to swim. She was pregnant at that time too. What makes you think we don't need the guards who would prefer to save us in such a situation? Fyodor guards would make him the priority if any such situation arose again. And, Nancy is right. It is again the sea we are going to. Though we can avoid going to a beach it is still a private island and surrounded by sea. I think I can understand from where her concerns are coming."
Robert too looked at Nancy and gave in. "If you had mentioned it from the start, I would have understood you too. I will soon call Fyodor and tell him that Damon and his wife are coming with three hundred and fifty people. And, it is not negotiable." Robert turned around and walked for a few feet before he walked back to them again.
"Nancy, if you don't feel safe all of it doesn't matter. We would be a failure if the women and children of our family were scared. If there is anything else you would want. You can tell me."
"Guns, can you give them the best guns?" Her demand made Damon and Robert exchange glances before Robert nodded and told them. "Have a safe journey. And, if you want, I can travel to the nearest hotel in Bulgaria from that Island. Would you want that?" And, Nancy nodded in an instant.
It was only now Robert realized that whatever had happened in Italy had shaken Nancy to the core. She was on a murder spree when she tried to poison him but it was all because she wasn't herself after living the horror, she had to in the dark sea alone.
"Fine, I will travel with the guards and will stay at the hotel from where I can take a small ship to the island any time you need me." Nancy smiled and whispered, "Thank you," but Damon was quick to interrupt. "What's the point of going on a trip if you don't feel secure? You can stay here..."
But Robert was quick to stop him. "Can't you see? She won't let you be on your own? She loves you more than she fears someone attacking you people again." Saying this Robert took his leave and Damon held Nancy's wrist and guided her to his lap. "What's wrong with you? Nothing is going to hurt you. I will make sure of it always." Nancy smiled and whispered, "I know. I just want to be cautious."
"And, there is no harm in it. Are you happy?" Damon asked to which Nancy nodded, "Yes, very much."
When they board the plane Damon helps her with her fear of the plane. And, later on talked to her about the weather. But then shifting his gaze to her dress he asked, "Isn't this a little too deep on your chest?" Nancy smiled shaking her head. The dress was fairly modest only showing a little of cleavage when someone would look from above. "No one is going to look at here. Also, you didn't say anything about this cut for the last two hours."
"I don't know. I don't want you to be seen in this one. Don't tell me you don't have anything modest on you,"
Nancy got her head on Damon's shoulder and held his arm to her. "Don't worry, I will change before we will land. I will wear modest while we are going to stay on an island." This brought an instant smile to Damon's face. "Sounds good to me. Modest is good. Only I see my angel and no one else."
Damon tucked her in her bed after a few hours. They were still on the plane but Damon wanted her to have a shut eye before they landed. Nancy couldn't help but praise the bed. "This one is so good."
"I know, right?" Damon smiled before kissing her on her mouth. He got the covers on the windows down. "The flight will be over in the next five hours. You have been sitting for quite some time now. I will wake you up in four hours." Nancy listened to him saying when he dimmed the light. Only the light passing the covers was enough to lighten the room.
"Sleep," Damon ordered and Nancy quickly closed her eyes.
Damon left her alone and wondered how much time it would take Nancy to let go of her fear of getting attacked. But he wouldn't mind doing anything no matter how big or small to make sure that her heart remains at rest.
Nancy, on the other hand, couldn't rest. After years she was going to look at the man who had killed her father, her aunt and other loyal staff of her family. She knew it would be very stupid on her part to believe that Fyodor wasn't planning something. She knew he had found her. But was also convinced that she wasn't as vulnerable as ten years ago. She was Damon Anderson's wife and was going to be the mother of Anderson's heir.
Nancy has already changed into a modest dress. Their plane landed at Bulgaria's national airport. A few cars were there to pick them up with Fyodor's security. And, even though Damon insisted on accepting the gesture Nancy wanted to ride the cars that were theirs and had their own men.
"I am sure it is the first thing he is going to talk about," Damon told Nancy who couldn't care less about it.
Their car was pulled in front of a dock from where they were to take a ferry. Robert was already standing there and shook hands with Damon. "I am staying here in a hotel. I have booked these ferries for you two and your guards. I figured if you didn't care about riding his cars Nancy wouldn't be comfortable riding his ferries too. "Thank you so much, Robert," Nancy told him.
"You are welcome. Take care and have fun. I am sure you won't need me in these two days and will have only good things to talk about when you return from it." Nancy looked at Robert and for a moment wondered how disappointed Robert would be if he got to know that she never shared the real reason with them.
"Thank you," Nancy smiled to Robert and got into a ferry along with Damon. They viewed the island from afar and Damon was indeed right. It was beyond beautiful. Nancy had never been here. Bulgaria was never where her father was. It was from where Fyodor belonged. Nancy realized how Fyodor hadn't invited them to Russia in her own home where some of the old associates could side her after learning she had some strong back from Andersons. Instead, he has brought them to where he was the strongest.
Nancy looked at her back to find nine other ferries in which her guards were coming. Around twenty-five or more were on her ferry. Their ferries came to shore and the knots in Nancy's belly only got stronger. But not for once she let it on her face. She wonders if Fyodor will try to kill her or talk to Damon to give her over. But then Nancy shook her head realizing he couldn't do this. Fyodor will be inviting his death if he asks Damon to hand her over.
She knew Damon would kill him on the spot if he disrespected her. At least, this is what she wanted to believe. And, if that point reached, she wanted to have their guards around too. Nancy has already ordered their guards that they were to cook their meals themselves and not trust anyone for anything at all.
