In only fifteen minutes, their suitcases were being dragged out and their ferries were ready to get them on board.
Nancy believed Fyodor would take it as if they were scared of him but didn't dare to say a single word to Damon who seemed to be steaming of anger. She was standing beside him at the ferry but something tells her that they weren't in this together. Nancy took a small step away before she took another and turned around. She was about to walk away when Damon held her hand and made her stand beside him. "Don't you dare move from my side? Haven't you caused enough trouble already?"
Nancy's throat was constricted. She gasped taking in a huge gulp of air. The salty ocean air was the same as the tears in her eyes.
Robert met them at the entrance of the hotel. He was a little surprised to find out about Damon and Nancy's sudden arrival but was quick to book a presidential suite for them next to him and now was waiting for them at the entrance.
Robert didn't ask anything until they weren't inside an elevator. "What happened?" But Damon smiled before looking at Nancy. But all Nancy could see was his calm before he would absolutely blast. "Nothing, you wouldn't believe how lucky I am to have my wife."
Nancy tried to look to the other side but Damon stopped her. "No, look at me. You don't have anything to hide now. You are truly free. How does it feel?" Even Robert could feel the storm behind Damon's face now. The smile on Damon's face wasn't matching the words he was using with Nancy.
Robert wondering it is their personal matter and if he should leave them both alone. The elevator door opened and Robert quickly tried to excuse himself. "Fine, I will see you two in tomorrow morning, I guess,"
"No, you need to hear this one." Damon passed him and Robert looked at Nancy who was slowly walking behind Damon. He asked Nancy what it was about but she only looked away and followed Damon instead. Robert wonders if Nancy is the one who messed up. Because seemingly it looks like it.
Robert walked into their presidential suite. It had a huge living area with a bar set up. Robert walked to the bar and made a drink for himself while Damon finally turned around and looked at Nancy. "Tell me one thing, very clearly, and I will take your word for it." Nancy nodded and Robert looked at them before telling Damon. "Easy," but not giving Robert a glance Damon asked Nancy, "Do you even slightly hope or want by any means that I work to get your family prestige back." Robert narrowed his eyes and Nancy shook her head. "I have left it all in my past. You are my only family now. And, I will stand beside you no matter what."
"So, you will agree to whatever I decide for this family," Damon asked and Nancy instantly nodded,
"Then fine, you have to forget all about being Miss Ivanov. You will give up on this identity just as you have done in the past ten years. You will only be Nancy Anderson. Nothing more and nothing less," Nancy looked at him shocked. She would have accepted this decision of his but there was something more to his decision that made Nancy feel betrayed. Damon's eyes told her that he didn't like one bit of this fact. That he didn't like what she was or came from.
"Now, tell me. Do you accept giving up on everything you were? Forever to come." Damon came again at the absence of her response but Nancy gulped. If she didn't accept this decision of his she would be blamed for having an ulterior motive. Her loyalty and intentions would be questioned for Anderson's and their welfare. But if she does accept it. It will label her as a coward who didn't care about the bloodshed of her father, her aunt and her stepmother. She would be betraying her loyal staff that lost their life to protect hers. Perhaps, hoping that this way Ivanov's family would be saved.
Nancy thought about it a lot when she managed the words. "Even if I stand with you. Your child will be half Ivanov."
"Ivanov what?" Robert asked but then instantly recalled how Fyodor had gained control over Russia by eliminating most of Ivanov's family and presenting his son as the last heir who was last Ivanov.
"How can she be Ivanov? They were dead mostly." Robert asked. Robert's question got Damon's attention finally. He smiled before he told Robert.
"Meet my wife. She is Nancy Ivanov. The eldest daughter of Dimitri Ivanov." Robert's eyes widened. He wonders what had happened at Fyodor.
"Tell me you didn't kill Fyodor," Robert asked Damon. But his question only boiled Nancy's blood.
"Why would he kill Fyodor? He is not just a salesman he can finish in fifteen seconds." Nancy said before she turned around her heel. She didn't know where the bedroom was but figured she would find it out later. She walked to the terrace to dissipate her emotions but seeing that she was standing on an open terrace Damon yelled from where he was standing. "Get fucking inside!"
Nancy rubbed the tears rolling down her cheeks when she turned around while Robert helped. "It's the left door." Nancy ran to the door and shut it with a loud thud.
Damon looked at Robert and asked, "What does she want? You heard her, didn't you? I am sure she was planning to use me. So, I go for her against Fyodor."
"Calm down, I think it is a great news. You have married a woman who is coming with unimaginable resources and influence." Robert was shocked but didn't dislike the reality.
"Are you even listening to yourself? I wouldn't want that. Do you know what it means?" Damon yelled kicking the sofa. He wanted to dissipate these emotions. He still couldn't believe Nancy didn't trust him enough to discuss such an important thing of her past.
Robert narrowed his eyes. "I understand. It means she will be living in Russia taking over her father's inheritance while your children will be spending days without their mother. And, you don't want that. You don't want her to turn out to be a lost mafia princess that she will be regardless until her last breath no matter what you do about it. You had married a woman who was a beggar and wanted to take credit that it was you who turned her into a queen. But knowing she had always been a queen on the run hurts your ego."
"I want my wife only to be my wife and nothing else. I want Nancy all the time only for me." Damon said making Robert huff out.
"But at least, look at it from her side. Her father was killed, her whole family was killed and she had to survive in one of the world's most fucked up corners." This made Damon look at Robert who shrugged his shoulders. "There was no rule of law. She survived that and much more. And, now you want her to forget all about it."
Damon walked to Robert and lowered his voice. It showed he didn't want Nancy to hear them when he stated, "And, now you are thinking all about it? Who wanted to enhance this relationship with Fyodor for the last five years? You have worked hard on it. It's going quite well for the last three years. And, where this compassion of yours was when your father accepted a deal from Fyodor to look for her. And, you even looked out for her. To kill her."
But Robert didn't seem to care about it when he chuckled. "At that time, she wasn't your wife. She wasn't an Anderson. Forget about it, Damon. But I wonder if Fyodor hadn't killed Nancy and Ken, then why did he announce that they were killed?" Robert asked and Damon turned around and groaned in pure frustration. "Isn't it easy? He must have thought that these children will never get out of the shadows."
Robert didn't seem any problem with it and said, "Well, we can kill Fyodor and Nancy will be gaining all that wealth and influence."
Damon looked at Robert and asked, "Are you really this dense? If I kill Fyodor, they would want Nancy at his place. And, not to forget it won't be easy. There will be thousands of men who would still be loyal to Fyodor even after his death and that would pose a threat to my wife and my child always."
"You are thinking about it too much," Robert commented and Damon gave him a duh look, "I have to. I would rather have Fyodor control over what he has and keep my wife in Alaska and make sure she only has people around who I can trust."
"What if your wife doesn't think the same? If she doesn't share the same views as yours." Robert raised his voice but Damon didn't want to listen to him anymore.
"She has to. She will come around. I will handle her. You don't have to worry about her." Robert didn't like Damon's approach or his tone so he asked, "Fine, then you tell me what you would want me to worry about."
Damon realises he has to talk to Robert about the peace treaty Fyodor has offered, "I have seen Fyodor worrying about messing the relations with us. He has offered us a peace treaty and you will talk with him and accept this peace treaty."
This made Robert scoff. "A peace treaty? And, Damon Anderson? When was the last time you signed a peace treaty? Oh, yes, it was when...never." Damon raised his brows and ordered. "Get out of here,"
"Ok, I will leave. You are doing all of it to keep her safe. But would she be happy? She is going to see you as a coward. You will lose respect. Your wife's respect..."
Damon hated Robert at his moment the most. So, he had to ask Robert. "Then, do what? Wage a war and push her into a vicious cycle where she has to spend her every moment wondering if someone is going to kill her. Maybe I can do this to her. But I can't do this to me. I can't spend my whole life thinking she is not safe wherever she is."
"And, since when this lifestyle has become foreign to us? We have always lived like this." Robert reminded him.
But Damon felt like he was the only sane person left in the room. "All of this will not end with Fyodor's death. It will start with Fyodor's death. And, even then people will still be appearing to avenge his death. And, not to forget, he is the son-in-law of the Todorov family."
Robert turned around to leave but then stopped and added, "Your only downside is you are thinking it too much. Do you know what I am thinking? The influence it will get us. Once we wage this war everyone will be aware that we are scared of anything but war. How dare Fyodor offer us a peace treaty? And, what makes you think he will honour this peace treaty? The man who killed his wife and used her only for her family name to get where he is right now. To do what? To gain this whole influence in the region and the love of his life, Raya."
Damon looked at Robert for a long moment before he said, "You know how Russians are. They will never accept Nancy as their head. Once she assumes her power there will be nothing but never-ending assassination attempts on her. And, the next thing you would know it would be the Russian government after her too. Then, what Robert? I will be losing the very thing I had waged war for. I want Nancy around and safe. And, I want it more than her potential of what she used to be or could be."
"But they will accept your boy?" Robert reminded.
"That too if I have a boy, Robert. And, don't you dare make me talk out of it? Fyodor has asked for peace. We will give him that." But Robert was quick to cut him off. "Yes, and he will only honour this peace treaty until Russia and him aren't done with the war in Afghanistan. And, after that, he will come after Nancy. And, if he couldn't because you are standing in front of him then he will come for Anderson's."
"But we..." Damon was about to say something but then didn't. He gave him a gesture that they can't talk about it here. Damon didn't want to talk about his plans when they were still very much on their enemy's soil. "...we aren't left with any options but to keep my wife's security at the top. We will give them a peace treaty,"
Robert too realized that this isn't where they should have this talk so he agreed saying, "Fine, we will give them a peace treaty and maybe pray that he honors it."
Robert left but Damon realized he had to face Nancy now. Only if he knew who Nancy was, he would have never fallen in love with her. But now it was too late. Fyodor was right. It was too late for them.
