Damon got the gun in his belt before telling her. "Your sense of security should lie within me. I am your sense of security. Nancy started hyperventilating with anger. She gave him a sarcastic laugh as she managed. "I don't feel the same, Damon. I cannot feel the same for you,"
Damon turned around and opened the door of the suite for her. He walked out first and extended his hand for his wife. Nancy who knew that it was essential for them to keep the appearances held his hand. Damon walked beside her in the hallway. He had sunglasses on his face to hide the fact that he wanted to look around. The car was parked in an inside garage at the back of the hotel. It was made sure that the car Nancy uses was bulletproof.
The same practice was followed when they arrived the other hotel. Nancy believed that Fyodor must have realized that Damon didn't know about her past until yesterday. Because Andersons did none of these precautions and protocols yesterday. She was surely going to lose her face in front of Fyodor. The strength and influence she was trying to brag about yesterday were nowhere today.
Soon, they were welcomed by Fyodor's guards at the top floor. Nancy kept her head low and hid her eyes under shade glasses too. They were escorted inside a great oval shaped meeting hall. The view from up above was charismatic.
Nancy had her chest pressing. It was taking every bit of her strength to keep her shoulders up and neck high.
Fyodor and his wife appeared with four more guards. "I must say the weather today is amazing," Raya quoted and Damon smiled telling her, "Good morning, Mrs. Petrov." Damon got his sunglasses out and placed them on the table ahead. Nancy had to follow his action and remove her sunglasses too.
"Same to you, darling," Raya replied,
"So, have you drafted it with our clauses included," Fyodor meant business right away. His eyes briefly met Nancy's but he was quick to get his attention back at Damon.
"Yes," Damon's reply made Fyodor look at Nancy. His action didn't go unnoticed by Damon too.
The tension ever increasing when Fyodor said looking at Nancy this time, "It is in all of our best interest that we don't delve on the past. It has changed for a reason."
Nancy looked at Damon who refuse to look at her. The realization that peace was more important for him made Nancy helpless. She too never wanted a war. Hell, she too never wanted to do anything with what her father used to do or own. Fyodor could continue to keep all of it and she would have never told Damon a thing. But this right here was ultimate embarrassment. And, she couldn't help a witty response. "Reason being your greed and lust." Damon was quick to hold her hand under the table when Fyodor's face got tense. "Not exactly, perhaps it was your father's inability all along. He shouldn't have attacked at my ports."
"You shouldn't have killed his sister." Nancy nearly spats. This made Fyodor smile. "She was my wife. No one can raise questions about that."
Nancy pierced her nails in Damon's skin before she said, "Do you really want this peace treaty, Fyodor? Because she was my aunt. And, I could want to avenge her as I please..." But then she looked at Damon and asked, "...I can do that Damon darling, can't I?" Nancy knew she has put Damon on a tight spot.
"Sure," Damon said all the while putting the gun on Nancy's lap under the table. Nancy's heart dropped in her stomach. She couldn't do this. Her feet got cold.
Nancy instantly looked at Fyodor. Her expression completely changed when she told Fyodor, "The only reason we are signing this peace treaty is because I allowed it. And, you better never forget it."
Robert walked in with his twelve guards. He had a file in his hand. A man who was walking and entered right beside Robert came to stood behind Fyodor and whispered something in his ear. While, Damon's guards came to stand behind Damon with their gun out and in their hands.
Fyodor smiled and said looking at Damon this time, "We agree to all of your conditions. But just to make sure that you have discussed it with Nancy..."
"Lady Anderson," Damon and Robert corrected in unison. Robert walked to take a seat on the side of Nancy.
"Of course," Fyodor said before he looked at Nancy for long. "I want to make sure that Lady Anderson understands that she is to never speak of who her father was and what's her maiden name is."
"Can a sign on a paper take away from me what I am?" Nancy challenged Fyodor before adding. "I am my father's flesh and blood. Can this sign take it away from me?"
Fyodor looked at Damon for the explanation and stated. "I believe you two need more time,"
Nany held onto the gun. Now, when Damon had given her the authority to make a decision Nancy did feel the weight of her actions. Her one shot could start a never-ending vengeance. On the other side, everyone here wanted to forget her about her family and start anew.
"We don't need more time," Damon said looking at Nancy who refused to take on the liberty Damon had offered her.
"That's great," Fyodor mentioned,
"For the token of appreciation and collaboration I want to offer five of our natural gas hills. Also, if there is anything specific lady Anderson would want." Fyodor said this looking at Nancy who refused to look up from the gun. She let it go realizing she couldn't do it. She couldn't start the war and shed more blood. She wasn't raised for it. It wasn't in her.
Robert who liked the sound of natural gas reserves praised Fyodor's generosity. "Wow, that's quite generous of you," But Nancy interrupted Robert looking at him. "My father owned seven hundred and twenty-eight hills." Robert looked at Nancy and then looked at her lap before looking at Fyodor. "I am aware of the situation quite well. I have dictated that peace treaty. But if my sister-in-law doesn't want to give up on her father's name, I can't stop that. And, you know what it would mean for you Fyodor."
"Aren't you three people becoming greedy? I should haven't even offered those five hills." Fyodor said and signed on the document before forwarding it in front of Nancy.
An assistant got the document and forwarded it to Robert. Robert showed Nancy where to sign all the while telling her. "It should be your decision." Nancy looked at the paper and let go of the gun to hold the pen.
Robert who had asked his guards that anything could happen leaned into his chair now knowing this peace treaty was going to happen. Not that he was interested in Nancy's dowry but it could have been a great addition. Damon's kids could have been the rightful heir to all of what Ivanov's owned...
The terrain of Robert's thoughts came to a halt when Nancy gasped. And, in the next moment Robert noticed Damon getting the gun from Nancy's lap and shooting right between Fyodor's eyes. Nancy jumped but Robert and Damon were already covering her with their bodies. Robert got his gun out. But Damon was quick to shot Raya right above her ear when she yelled for her husband. In only ten seconds all of twenty men behind Fyodor were gone. Damon looked at his men and only one was shot on the hand. He had already asked his guards to wear the bulletproof jackets and make sure to aim for the heads of the enemies. Their guns had the silencer on but Damon knew the gunshots from Fyodor's men were heard across the building.
"We don't have much time left. We are to leave in two minutes." Damon announced,
One of the guards made sure that he had locked the door while Damon took Nancy close to the window. All of them shattered the windows and threw the ropes down. Nancy wonders when they arranged all of it.
"No, I can't do this." Nancy screamed realizing the height they were going to jump from. But not listening to him Damon picked her up. Nancy held his shoulders for her dear life. Her mind was still not wrapped around the fact that Damon had killed Fyodor. Didn't he want her to renounce her identity?
"Damon, I am scared!" She shouted in his ear but Damon who had secured the wire to his belt told her. "If you can bring me in your enemy's den telling me nothing about it. You can certainly do this too." He had already jumped and Nancy cried out so loud she knew the whole city could hear her. Damon got his feet on the floor while few of his guards were still coming down.
Five guards tried to cover for Damon who had Nancy on his shoulder. Robert took them into a car and they raced it to the nearby ferries. They had told Fyodor they were to leave through the plane but also knew it could be attacked or traced by Todorov family in the whole region. So, they chose for the ferries. Nancy was surprise to find her maids already on the ferry. She wonders if Damon had arranged all of it.
Nancy was still shivering from the moment Damon used the stationed rope to get down from the hotel building. Damon gestured to one of the maids who took Nancy to the inside part of the ship. It felt surreal when the city starting losing the sight on a far horizon. Nancy was sitting with three maids and she couldn't help but ask. "Since when you three were waiting for us here?"
"For four hours, lady." Nancy was beyond shocked. She could tell Robert and Damon had planned it all together but again didn't let her on the plan.
"What have we done?" Nancy whispered to herself. She held her head and took her time to line up the things in her head she should be worried about now.
