"Come on it's ready," Luca smiles, peaking his head from behind the door frame and looking at me, Darcy and Santiago who are watching Black mirror in the movie room.
We returned last night from our mission to eliminate another rival arms business that popped up near the coast, we were obviously all excited to see Darcy but we arrived to a worried Santiago and Romeo who told us about the events that took place while we were away.
After explaining in detail what transpired, it was clear that Darcy's 'friend' had something to do with the mysterious explosion. We all agreed not to tell her, we know it would break her heart to know that her best friend played a role in her attempted murder and we were told by her doctor to avoid stressing her out.
To distract her from any suspicious thoughts we hastily put together a little gender reveal in the back garden. She always said she wanted something small with just her family which made the guest list easy but she was really upset when she found out that Elena 'couldn't come'.
The truth is she's gone completely ghost, Lorenzo questioned Darcy's new friends and they said she left soon after Darcy did and hasn't been seen since.
"Chop chop," Luca calls as he hurries down the hallway in front of a waddling Darcy and me and Santiago who are slowly walking, matching her pace.
She's only six months but her stomach is the size of a full term one, it's funny watching her waddle around all day.
"Okay, ready?" Luca says excitedly, as he removes his hands that were covering Darcy's eyes revealing a decorated back garden.
A huge pastel yellow ballon arch is in the centre, surrounded by banners and fairy lights. Luca had Arlo and Dante but together this diy wooden table that's made out of wooden pallets and covered in a table cloth so that's it's close to the ground.
Darcy finds sitting in chairs uncomfortable so theres pillows surrounding the table as well as blankets.
"I love it! Thank you," She gratefully thanks Luca before heading out into the yard. I follow her, almost tripping over Bear who lays asleep in the sun like the lazy old bastard he is.
She's talking with our brothers when she locks eyes with a women who's walking through the backdoor, chatting with Luca. She immediately gasps, causing me to look towards the woman I don't recognise.
"Oh my god! How the fuck did you get here?" She squeals, waddling as fast as she can to the woman and engulfing her in a hug.
"Language," The woman playfully scolds her.
"Who's that? Your grandmother?" Santiago asks, watching the interaction intently. I shake my head, having no idea who this woman is.
"Surprise!" Luca shouts, doing jazz hands like an idiot. "I can't believe it," Darcy says ecstatically, now hugging Luca.
Darcy and the woman approach us, arms linked. "You guys remember Mrs Gail right!" Darcy asks excitedly.
"Norah," The woman scolds her again.
I rack my brain for any memories of a Norah, finally remembering that day we visited her in that little cottage in the woods all them years ago.
"Nice to see you after so long Norah," Lorenzo greets. Darcy and Norah catch up for a while before Luca calls us all over to sit at the long table.
Santiago and Darcy sit at the end while we all sat at the sides, I roll my eyes when I find that I'm sat next to Nico who always flirts with me any chance he gets. To be fair can you blame him.
We all laugh and joke as the beaming sun shines down on us, I feel content knowing all of my family is here and happy.
We all eat the finger sandwiches and snacks Luca masterly prepared like the top chef he is until Arlo returns from the kitchen, holding two cupcakes. He places one in front of both Darcy and Santiago who both stare at them, their gazes filled with anticipation.
"Okay wait wait!" Angelo says urgently, arranging himself at the end of the table so he can get a good shot of the moment with his camera.
Darcy has this huge grin on her face, the brightest I've ever seen her smile. At first I hated the idea of her being pregnant and I hated that prick Santiago even more but now that I see how happy they make her I love them babies and I guess I can tolerate Santiago.
"Go on." Lorenzo nods at Darcy, telling her to take a bit out of her cupcake. She picks it up carefully and takes the tiniest bite out of it before turning it around, revealing to everyone the colour.
Blue.
"Wow a boy, who could have guessed." Nico says sarcastically, causing Romeo to snicker. Darcy nudges Santiago, making him pick up his cupcake and take a much larger bite.
He looks down at it and smirks before revealing it to all of us, blue. Two boys, highly predictable for this family.
"Wow congratulations you two! You're going to have your hands full," Norah says cheerily, standing up and pulling Darcy in for another hug.
When she pulls away Darcy's face is tear stricken, causing the familiar feeling of dread to spread through me on reflex but I calm down after noticing that they were clearly happy tears as she excitedly hugs Santiago.
Wow I'm going to be an uncle to two nephews.
Ivan Volkov slumps in his leather chair, impatiently tapping his foot as the phone continues to ring.
"I'm sorry-" The other side immediately says after finally picking up.
"Your apologies are meaningless to me, I gave you one job and I expected you to fulfil it," He states, the resentment and hatred dripping off his seething voice.
"I tried my best, I really did but it wasn't the right way to go about it we need to think smarter," She babbles desperately.
"Your best clearly isn't good enough, god your mother would be ashamed to see what a disappointment you turned out to be," He growled. "Come home now," He ordered before hanging up.
Ivan Volkov had once loved his daughter, that was until she grew up and her face morphed into an almost identical replica of his late wife's, the woman he loved and the woman that betrayed him.
As his daughter grew older he began to realise how utterly useless she was. She could never quite live up to his expectations, she wasn't particularly good at anything and she was absolutely no help in running the mafia.
He began to feel hopeless, believing he would never have a competent heir to pass his business onto, that was until his paths crossed with Darcy Russo. He loved her like a daughter, trained her as he would have done his own if she weren't so futile.
But when she left him, betrayed him for the Italians just like his wife something clicked in this brain. Any sense of logic and reasoning flew out the window as all he could think about is one thing, getting her back.
At first he wanted to kill her, blow her to pieces but when that plan failed and he felt relief he had a realisation, he didn't want her to die.
He decided he wasn't going to kill her, it would be a waste of the hours of work he put into making her who she is today. Instead he was going to find her and break her down as he did all them years ago, making her weak and vulnerable again so he could mould her into what he wanted, a subservient daughter. One worthy and powerful enough to take on his organisation.
All he had to do is rip her away from those Italians and take back what is his.
