"What about this?" Theo points fingers on the wrapper
"9 out of 10" I say
"Fair, what about resses?"
"Easy, 10 out of 10" it was the best thing I have ever had
We've been eating all the candy and chocolate Theo has brought from the mall.
"Uh, it's so good," I say while eating KitKat.
"We get it; stop moaning," Kenji said.
"I am not; get your ears checked up."
"They are fine."
"Oh then you're probably hallucinating sounds that you haven't heard before, does this reason sound better?" I tease
I hear a phone call, but no one is answering. I look around.
"It's yours, dumbass," Kenji says, pointing to a phone in my pocket.
I always forget I have one.
I look at the screen and see that it's Dorian who's calling.
"Hello," I say as I answer the phone.
"Come to my office; there's something I need to tell you."
I walk to his office and knock.
"Come in," he says.
I walk in.
"Here's the thing: I decided that it would be good for you if you at least finish the school." It didn't sound like a statement, more like a question, so he's not so confident in how I will react to this statement.
"I think that's a great idea."
"Really?" he asks.
"Yeah, I didn't get to finish it, even though I wanted to."
"May I ask why?"
"Just some problems with finances" I try to avoid the question and gave him different answer.
"Okay, if there's nothing else, you can go back to the Sweet eating."
"Okay," I walked out and was about to go downstairs when I heard Theo's energetic voice and some laughter.
I go to my room and go to bed. I start to overthink.
Can I really have this? It doesn't feel real.
I can go to school, I eat a few times a day, I'm not cold, and I have more than two clothes.
What if it all stops? I don't want to lose this.
I feel a tear slide down my cheek, and after that, my eyes close as darkness appears.
~~~
A knock woke me up.
"Who is it?" I ask, but no answer; more knocking
I don't say anything; it's dark outside, and knockings are getting more aggressive.
I get close to the door and open it slowly.
"What took-"
I gasp out of fear, and I know it shows on my face.
"What's wrong?" Kenji asks.
"Nothing." I breathe heavily. "What are you doing here?"
"Dorian told me to wake you up; you won't be able to sleep at night."
"Oh, okay, thanks." I close the door, but he stops it.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He asks being concerned
"Yes, why" I narrow my eyes being confused why does he care
"You looked terrified earlier."
"No, it's fine; I'm okay." I simply say
Just for a second, I thought that I was back in Russia while those men were banging on the door.
