Katie followed me back after school.

She was quiet.

I thought about Dominic, how oddly quiet he was, how angry he seemed to be. I looked at Katie and noticed the very same thing. Something was happening between them.

"Katie?" I started, hoping she would be more willing to talk than Dominic was.

She simply nodded, willing me to continue.

"... Is everything okay?"

She nodded, staring at the ground as we walked.

"Do you want to talk?" I tried.

She looked at me, tears surfacing, and after a moment she shook her head and turned, walking back to her house. I opened my mouth, wanting to call for her, but didn't.

I watched as she walked back, confused as I heard her quiet sobs.

What could have happened?
