"I went over to your place today... Katie doesn't really seem all that great," I informed Dominic over a phone call that evening.

He cleared his throat, some papers shuffled on the other end. "...Really? What, uh.. Why'd you go?" He asked, genuinely curious or confused.

"Well.. You told me she wasn't talking as much... and well, I wanted to check on her.. She's," I paused, remembering that whole fiasco between Dominic, Katie, and I. "She's my friend."

Papers shuffled, a pen clicked, "..yeah."

I swallowed. "Um.. Dominic? Are-"

"Yeah, sorry," he laughed nervously, interrupting me."Just distracted."

I swallowed thickly, listening to the soft noises coming from his end. "I can call another time-"

"No, no.. No." He said quickly. "Just.. let me," papers shuffled. He sighed, "okay.. I'm completely focused on you now, baby. No more distractions."

I swallowed, "I invited Katie over for dinner.. at some point.. who knows if she'll come or not.. I just think she needs to get out of your apartment and socialize again."

"Right... maybe even talk to my dad again," he suggested.

I nodded, then felt silly because he couldn't see it. "..yes."

It was quiet for a good minute, the only sound being the soft rustling sound coming from his end, which I only assumed was the couch as he moved.

"Violet.. how have you been doing? How's your day been? I just want to talk with you. I want to hear your voice."

"Oh, um," I played gently with a loose string on the hem of my shirt. "It's been good.. nothing too important, I guess," I mumbled.

"Mmm," he mumbled, his voice filled with sleep. My eyes widened, realizing it was almost 3 a.m. for him.

"Oh, Dominic, I'm sorry. Please, just go to bed. I can talk to you in the morning."

"Heyyy," he laughed deeply, "trying to get rid of me now, huh?"

"No!.. No... It's just so late. I feel bad," my voice lowered to a whisper.

He laughed lightly, "mmm, don't feel bad, baby. I'll be alright."

It felt so strange hearing him call me that - as if butterflies were flying around inside my chest.

"... Still," I said quietly.

"Don't let me keep you up, though, Violet... Hey, I'll be back soon. Not too long," he sighed deeply, a soft laugh escaping his lips. "I know what I'm doing once I get back."

"What?" I said softly.

"Take you out, kiss you till you're sick of me, just hold you," he groaned deeply and cursed. "It's so long."

I giggled. "It'll be okay."

He cursed again under his breath. "And that laugh... Now I'm getting sappy. Just fly out here, Violet. Just fly out here."

"... It's expensive.. I can't."

He sighed deeply. "I know, Love."

I hesitated, not wanting to hang up but knowing I needed to leave. "Um... I should go."

"Tired?" He said, his voice deep and sleep filled.

"Not exactly, but I need to. I have to work... I'm sorry."

"Mmm, don't apologize, Love.. I'll talk to you tomorrow, okay?"

"..okay... Bye."
