Chapter 10 part 2

Samuel

He really, really, cared about his daughter. That being said, when she was so scared that she started crying because she couldn't find her dad, he felt pretty guilty. He has responsibilities as the hero, but his responsibilities as a father should come first.

Now, Samuel laid on the couch lost in thought. Ellie was laying right beside him, crammed in between his body and the couch, sleeping. All that crying can take a lot out of a kid.

Samuel, however, was fighting sleep. His eyelids were droopy and his limbs were like noodles, but he refused to go to sleep. He had too much to think about for him to go to sleep.

Where did that woman come from? For Samuels entire life he thought he was the only one with powers. And then, Matias showed up. Now he'd finally gotten used to the idea of it just being the two of them and another person with powers shows up.

It wasn't just that though. She was strong. The amount of power she was producing and controlling was ridiculous! Neither Samuel nor Matias have ever come close to using that much power all at once.

She was strong, and she knew it. The whole time they were fighting, if you could even call that a fight, she was just messing with him! If she wanted to badly hurt or even kill him she could've easily done that. She also could've decimated all those buildings and killed every pedestrian she encountered. But she didn't, and Samuel itched to know why.

Every thought slowed down in his head. He wanted to keep thinking, he wanted to figure out what was going on. But his body had had enough, and it was ready to sleep.

His eyes fluttered open, not fully willed to wake up yet. He let out a long yawn before looking up at the tv which was..on? The tv was switched to a recording of the news and was showing himself, or rather the hero, talking to the interviewers.

He felt around for the remote, trying not to move too much and wake his daughter. His eyes scanned the room before meeting with another pair of eyes.

"Good morning sleeping beauty" the person said with a laugh.

"Why are you in my house, Matias" Samuel replied coldly, though a smile crept onto his lips.

"Dude you got your ass absolutely kicked, why do you think I'm here?" Matias teased, pausing the tv.

Samuel glanced over at his daughter who was clung onto his side. He moved her arm off of his chest and slowly sat up. Once he was fully out of her grasp he stood up off the couch.

"How cute" Matias joked.

Samuel only responded with a glare. He walked over to where Matias was sitting and grabbed his wrist, pulling him up.

"Damnit Samuel, I'm still injured you prick!" Matias hissed through gritted teeth.

Samuel stopped to look back at the now standing Matias. He kept his hold on his wrist while looking him up and down, assuring he was okay.

"Don't do that, you look like you're checking me out"

Matias's remark made Samuel release his wrist and look away towards the wall.

"Just come on" Samuel muttered, bringing a hand up to cover his face.

"Yessir" Matias responded with a smirk.

Samuel led the two of them into his bedroom and stood with his arms crossed. He waited for Matias to close the door before he immediately started talking.

"Do you know who the hell that was?" Samuel wasted no time asking.

"What? No, I've never seen em before" Matias responded, startled.

"Me neither! How did someone else with powers live here the whole time and neither of us caught wind of them?"

Matias tried to respond, but Samuel was talking too fast for him to get a word in.

"Plus, why would she just walk down a street to damage some buildings and scare some people? That makes no sense!" Samuel was nearly flailing his arms around while he talked.

"She obviously was holding back too! The whole time she was just tossing me around and not really hurting me! It's like she was saying 'I don't even have to try to kick your ass, so you better stay out of my way'" Samuel tried to continue his tangent, but was interrupted.

"Samuel!" Matias almost shouted.

They looked at one another for a moment, Samuel looking a bit dumbfounded and Matias having a look that Samuel couldn't read.

"We both know she's strong and that she wasn't actually trying to badly damage or hurt anything or anyone. I don't think that's what we should be worried about"

Samuel waited a long moment for Matias to continue.

"When is she going to come back?" Matias finally said.

"What?"

"People don't just show up to cause a bit of trouble like that and then never come back. She's going to be back at some point, and it'd be nice to know when" He explained.

Samuel looked at the floor for a few long seconds before looking back up at Matias.

"How are we supposed to know when she'll come back?" He questioned.

"We don't"

Matias's response made Samuel pause once again. He knew that was the answer, but he didn't expect him to just admit it like that.

"Anyways, you were the one there. Did you see their face? Anything important?" Matias said.

Samuel snapped out of his thoughts.

"I don't thinks so. I mean I saw she had long, black hair. That's about it" Samuel said unsurely.

"Well at least we know it's a girl, that's a start" replied Matias

The media was doing their best to figure out lots of things about this new villain, including their gender. Though they didn't really catch onto her being a girl quite yet.

"Long hair doesn't mean it's a girl. Did y'all have an.. interaction" Matias teased, trying to lighten the mood

"You make me sound like some kind of creep when you say it like that" Samuel lectured.

Matias only raised an eyebrow with a smirk on his face.

"Oh really?! That's how you're gonna be?" Samuel joked.

The two each laughed for a moment before looking back up to meet the others eyes. They gazed at one other, smiling like children.

Samuel enjoyed the moment and honestly wanted it to last forever. He had suddenly forgotten about the new villain and all the drama going on. He simply wanted to enjoy this time with Matias.

However, Matias widened his eyes before looking away. He brought a hand up to cover his face and, though he couldn't see it, Samuel was sure he was biting his lip again.

"Matias"

Samuel finally ended the awkward silence. But Matias only hummed lightly in response, his hand and eyes not moving.

"Matias" he said again.

He took a few steps toward Matias so they were now only standing a foot apart. Samuel could now see that Matias's face was flushed a shade of pink, and he couldn't help but smile.

Before, Samuel was sure that with how things went down with Ellie's mom that he wouldn't even want a relationship for many more years. But Matias was different. He loved the way he talked, how he gets flushed at simple things like holding a long eye contact, not to mention he was incredibly beautiful. Samuel found himself surrounded by all kinds of feelings when he was around Matias, and he couldn't find the will to push them away.

Samuel reached a hand up to grab Matias's off his face. He savored the moment and Matias was too shocked to even resist. Just as he expected, Matias's bottom lip was curled up into his mouth as he chewed on it.

"Matias, would you please stop biting your lip like that" Samuel said sweetly.

He watched as Matias let go of his lip and looked right at the floor. As much as he was enjoying himself, he figured he would save Matias a bit of embarrassment.

"We'll figure all of it out, I'm sure she won't do anything too harsh, right?" Samuel brought the topic back to the new villain.

"Mhm" was all Matias said before Samuel exited the room, holding the door open to Matias to follow.

Samuel truly thought it was amusing how Matias put up a tough act but still got flustered easily. Matias could joke with Samuel for hours but the second Samuel says or does anything simple like holding eye contact he gets embarrassed.

"Do you think she recently moved to the city or do you think she's been watching us and our powers all this time?" Matias asked with a hint of embarrassment still in his voice.

Samuel made his way to the kitchen, Matias following close behind him.

"That's what I'm worried about" Samuel replied briefly.

He opened a cabinet full of cups.

"You want something to drink?" Samuel asked pulling a cup out for himself.

"Something to drink, or something to drink?" Matias asked with a smile.

Samuel turned back at him with an annoyed expression.

"My five year old daughter is in the other room, what do you think?" He remarked.

"Yeah yeah" Matias sighed "grab me a cup"

The two sat at the counter and discussed this new villain for longer than either of them intended. They repeated many questions multiple times and came up with multiple theories. However, they ultimately didn't figure out anything new.

"It's kind of silly how they're calling her 'the new villain' don't you think?" Matias quizzed.

Samuel gave him a look of curiosity.

"I mean I already thought it was silly that we're known as 'the hero' and 'the villain' but isn't it even worse that when another person shows up they get the name 'the new villain'"

Matias chuckled a bit, which made Samuels heart race. God, he was obsessed with Matias and they only really met a few days ago.

Samuel laughed lightly.

"You know, I used to think that there was no problem with those names because they were at least accurate" he sulked, trying his best to sound like it was a joke.

He looked down at his hands. There was nothing he regret more than how he had treated and thought about the villain over the last few years.

"But now every time I hear someone call us 'the hero & villain' it makes me want to disappear" Samuel admitted the feeling that had been nagging him.

He finally looked up and met Matias's gaze. They shared a meaningful look as they observed one another's eyes.

"Don't let it bother you" Matias said suddenly, "who the hell cares what everyone else thinks, right?"

He smiled stiffly at Samuel.

"I don't know" Samuel said hesitantly.

"I wish it didn't matter what everyone else thinks, but it does. Hell, it matters a lot" Samuel raised his voice a little, but it still remained quiet.

He took an annoying notice of the sudden shift of mood, but he couldn't help it.

"It's not fair that everyone praises me and hates you when I'm the one who started all of this without trying to talk to you first" Samuel spoke, referring to their first fight multiple years ago.

"I mean, I didn't even bother asking if you really did any of it before I started fighting you!" Samuels voice cracked with every few words.

"Samuel.." Matias whispered

"And you can't even try and say that everyone seeing you as an awful person doesn't bother you! There's no way you are unfazed by everyone hating you!" Samuel looked up at Matias desperately.

His eyes were watering, but he refused to let a tear fall. He had no right to be sad about this when Matias wasn't. Matias should be the one bothered, not him.

"Samuel, you don't have to worry about all of that" Matias tried to console him.

"Are you serious? Matias all of this is my fault" Samuels voice lowered again, cracking intensely on his last few words.

Matias only looked back at Samuel with wide eyes. Was he mad? Or upset? Samuel couldn't read his face at all, it drove him crazy.

"I'm sorry" Samuel said weakly, laying his head down on the counter.

He took long deep breaths. He couldn't let Matias keep seeing him as upset as he was. It wasn't fair. He refused to cry in front of him right now.

He felt a hand just barely rest on his back. The touch was gentle and comforting, like if he put any more pressure Samuel would shatter like glass.

"Of course it bothers me" Matias said soothingly "but that's just how things go"

His hand started rubbing circled into Samuels back.

"I'm used to it by now"
