Chapter 11 part 2

Samuel

"We'll figure it out"

Samuels heart was racing. He so badly just wanted to be truly worried about the new villain, but just being around Matias took all of that off his mind.

All he could think about is how gentle Matias was now that he was leaning onto his shoulder. And how he didn't think he deserved any credit from any of the 'good' things he did. Matias may come off as rude or absentminded, but in reality he was the sweetest person Samuel knew.

Samuel couldn't resist the urge to be closer to Matias. He always felt the need to be talking to him or touching him in some way. It was like as soon as they were apart a piece of him was missing.

He knew that they had only known each other well for a couple of days, but he wanted nothing more than to be around him constantly. Even though they were sitting incredibly close on the couch and Samuel was leaning over onto Matias, he still wanted to be closer.

They both were now looking back at the news station that was still playing, though Samuel had completely tuned it out.

That was until the villain, or rather Matias, had been mentioned.

"The villain has still yet to show up anywhere. Many believe that he will use the new villains attacks to cause chaos elsewhere."

Samuel could feel Matias tense up at the mention of himself. He pretended like he didn't care about people thinking he was an awful person, but Samuel was sure that it bothered him.

"Police have said they have had no serious gang violence calls, which is typically the kind of issue the villain would cause. In the last 48 hours they say there have only been two gang related calls. Both of which ended up being harmless situations called in by people walking on the sidewalk near alleyways."

For the first time since they had turned on the recording, Samuel was intrigued by what they were saying. It was known that the hero had made no appearances, so why had there been no crimes? Wouldn't his disappearance cause more crimes?

"This leads people do believe that maybe the hero and villain have big things going on behind our backs. Can we really trust the hero? Is he hiding these things from us to work with the villain?"

The tv suddenly went black. He picked his head up and looked over at Matias who had the remote in his hand.

"What a load of crap"

Matias's face displayed a scowl and his whole body was less comfortable than before.

"I mean you're the hero, how many times have you saved their asses?" Matias complained.

Samuel couldn't say that people thinking he was working for the wrong cause didn't bother him, but seeing Matias get worked up about it made his heart skip a beat.

"To be fair, most of the times people think I'm saving them I'm really just fighting you" he half joked.

Samuel watched as Matias's face relaxed and his stiff posture went away with a slow outward breath. Matias was clearly about to continue, but Samuel decided to speak first.

"I know what you mean though. They think that just because the other two with powers are being suspicious that I'm in the wrong too"

Matias let out a breath of agreement. The two dwelled in thoughts of their previous conversations. While neither of them noticed, they leaned slightly over to each other.

They both looked over to the nearby hallway when a door was open and shut. Ellie appeared in the hallway, walking into the living room.

"Daaad" She wined dramatically

Matias let out a laugh that Samuel found particularly heart warming.

"Hm?" He hummed in response.

"I'm hungry" she pouted "when are we going to eat"

Samuel held up his wrist to check the time but quickly realized he wasn't wearing his watch. On a usual day he wouldn't ever take off his watch, but with him not going into work or taking Ellie to daycare he hasn't had much of a reason to put it on.

He opted for pulling his phone out of his back pocket and turning it on. The time showed was 6:15.

"I'll make something in just a minute, okay?" He spoke to his daughter sweetly.

She nodded eagerly and pulled herself up onto the couch. Samuel took the opportunity to look over at Matias.

Would it be weird to invite him to dinner? What if he has plans?

Samuel bit his tongue briefly, pushing his doubts away.

"Would you like to stay and eat?" He did his best to sound calm, though his heart could leap out of his chest at any moment.

"You sure? Isn't feeding two mouths enough for you?" Matias chuckled

Samuel couldn't push away the smile that carved itself into his face.

"If you don't have anywhere to be then I'd be happy to feed one more" he insisted

Matias smiled back at Samuel. The two shared loving gazes, though neither knew what the others look meant.

Samuel snapped out of his daze and stood up.

"So are we going to cook or are we going to order?" Samuel looked at both Matias and Ellie who were still sitting on the couch.

Matias shrugged and glanced over at Ellie. Her eyes lit up with an idea.

"Can we have spaghetti?!" She practically begged

Samuel couldn't help but laugh. They had spaghetti all the time, but Ellie would never get tired of it. Now he always made sure he had everything to make it at all times.

"I guess that depends, does Mat want to eat spaghetti?" He asked

Both him and his daughter looked over at Matias.

"I'm down for some spaghetti" he said casually.

Ellie squealed and went to jump onto Matias. Last second she paused, only inches away from him. She looked up at him as if asking if hugging him was allowed.

Matias wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Ellie took that as a go ahead and hugged him back, though she was still very gentle.

"Alright well I guess I'll get started" Samuel interrupted "don't let her be too rowdy"

With that he walked off to the kitchen, leaving Matias and Ellie sitting on the couch.

Though he was a little tired of eating it, Samuel didn't think he'd ever get tired of making spaghetti. Something about being able to focus on both boiling the noodles and mixing the sauce just relaxed him. Though cooking just about anything calmed his nerves.

He stood in the kitchen cooking the food for no more than twenty minutes, occasionally hearing laughs from the other room.

He pulled out plates, forks and cups. He placed them all in a line and turned the stove off. He stood silently, waiting for it to cool off a bit.

After he had stood there for a few minutes he called out to the living room.

"Ellie! Mat!"

He mentally face palmed at calling Matias the same way his did his kid, but was quickly distracted.

"I wish you'd stop calling me that"

The voice came from directly behind him. He hadn't realized Matias was already in the kitchen and nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard his voice.

He visibly jumped, spinning around to face Matias.

"Oh my god! You're going to make me have a heart attack" Samuel complained light heartedly.

He smacked Matias on the shoulder, though that didn't stop his laughter.

"I almost just had to go to the hospital and you're laughing?" Samuel continued to gripe.

Matias only continued laughing, a bright smile displayed on his face. Samuel paused for a moment to take in the sight before he also started laughing.

The two were giggling messes by the time Ellie came into the kitchen.

"Spaghetti!" She shouted, making her presence known

"Yes, yes" Samuel smiled "where were you?"

Typically she would stand and watch the whole time while he made spaghetti, but she didn't come until a few minutes after he called her.

"Bathroom" she replied, too distracted by the food to say any more.

She grabbed her plate and handed it to her dad without another word. He chuckled at her eagerness and made her plate.

The three of them sat at the round table at ate, smiling and laughing the whole time. Ellie, of course, was the first to finish and was quick to ask for seconds.

Meanwhile Samuel couldn't take his eyes off Matias, and he even caught Matias looking back at him a few times. Overall, the dinner went by amazingly. The three were smiling ear to ear when they got up from the table and sat back on the couch.

Samuel made a point to assure that Matias sat down before him. He really enjoyed being close to Matias, but he had a feeling that if he sat down first then the two wouldn't end up sitting all that close together. Maybe it was weird, but Samuel didn't care.

Now, Matias sat in the middle of the couch with Ellie snuggled up to him on his left and Samuel sitting close on his right.

"Wow, you prefer to sit by Mat over your own father?" Samuel teased

Ellie frowned right at him, leaning over Matias to look at him.

"I'm just kidding, you can sit by him all you want" he explained.

Samuel leaned forward to grab the remote, his shoulder feeling cold as it lost its contact with Matias's for a moment. When he leaned back it was like a heating pad had been laid on him in the middle of a cold winter.

"So what are we going to watch?" Samuel asked, mostly to Ellie.

"Disney" she said confidently

The other two both let out small laughs.

"Okay but what movie on Disney, there are a lot" Matias asked sweetly

Ellie paused for a long moment, her face scrunching up in thought.

Samuel and Matias shared a look. It was clear they both found the whole situation adorable.

Ellie blurted out multiple Disney Princesses excitedly.

"I don't know if we're going to watch that many" Samuel chuckled

Ellie frowned, but picked one of the movies with no protest.

The three of them sat quietly as the movie started, Ellie hugging onto Matias's arm. Samuel, on the other hand, was trying to avoid hurting him since he was sitting by his hurt arm.

Matias leaned over towards Samuel, making him flinch.

"Relax, you're not going to hurt me" He whispered kindly

Samuel looked back at Matias with wide eyes. Had it been that obvious that he was trying to avoid causing him pain? They looked at one another, their faces close together.

Samuel only smiled and looked back at the movie, trying to hide his embarrassment.

A few moments passed, Samuel still trying not to move in a way that would cause Matias pain. Eventually, Matias sighed quietly.

Samuel felt the arm that he was leaning away from pick itself up and move to the back of the couch. Now Matias's arm was behind Samuels head, no longer in between their bodies.

Samuel looked up at Matias shocked and with a flushed face, though Matias probably couldn't see it since the lights were out. Matias only glanced back at him, a small smile creeping onto his lips.

Samuel took this as an invitation and did his best to be at least a little bit subtle as he leaned over onto Matias. His head was laid back onto him and he snuggled into him slightly, only realizing that he did it afterwards.

It was obvious to Samuel that Matias probably wouldn't do anything else, and he wasn't willing to push it further either. The two sat through the movie, leaning onto each other, more comfortable than they had ever been.

Samuel didn't think he'd be able to feel this way towards anyone after Ellie's mom, but Matias proved him wrong.
