Chapter 4 part 1

Matias

Being upset while walking though paths full of people who want you dead is certainly not a good idea. Especially when you're like Matias.

Every time Matias gets angry, he will always become irrational and will stop paying attention to his surroundings.

As a kid he almost got hit by a car because he was too upset to check the road properly. It was an issue that he refused to address.

Matias was now about halfway back to his home. It was getting colder now and he had to resist every urge to put on his hoodie and pull his arms into his shirt. Chill bumps went all the way up his arms and made the hairs on the stand up.

Between the cold and his anger, Matias was too distracted to notice the group of 5 people following him through the alley.

Matias only had about a quarter of the way left when he hear a loud bang. Before he could turn around or do anything do defend himself a bullet went clean through his arm, just below his elbow, and there was a woman jumping onto his back. Any normal person would think the lady was a psycho. She pulled at Matias's hair and kicked all around all while her legs were either holding her up by his waist or her arms were supporting her while around his neck.

Either way, Matias had to get her off. The girl didn't weigh much, but she was fast and sprawling around all over him. He tried to grab her over and over with no results other than a long thin scratch across his cheek from her nails grabbing onto him.

He had to make up a quick idea and act on it fast, he turned where his back, with the girl still on it, was facing the nearest brick wall. He shifted his weight forward and then immediately pushed back as hard as he could. The adrenaline added some strength as the girl smacked straight into the brick wall. Matias was just trying to get her off but she must've hit her head because she knocked out on the ground. Her whole body limp while sitting up like a teenager who fell asleep doing homework.

The four other people, who had just been laughing and enjoying the show, were now running after Matias as he went in circles and around corners trying to get them off his tail.

He twisted and turned running through every possible route, but it was to no avail.

One of the four must've caught onto his pattern because when Matias turned a corner he was right there, waiting with a knife in his hand. The other three had stopped behind Matias and all had their hands on their weapons. Two of them wielding knives and the other a gun.

"Whatcha gonna do now pretty boy?" The one in front of him teased.

Matias racked his brain for an idea. Something, any idea at all, but got nothing. He heard the gun load behind him and began to turn around.

"Don't move! You move and I'll kill you here and now!" The man with a gun shouted. It was obvious he didn't get to give orders often and was getting a disgusting kick out of it.

Matias remained a statue, not daring to move in the slightest. He was painfully aware that it was no empty threat. One move and his head would be blown clean off. He looked around, only looking at what he could see without turning his head.

The man in front of him had lowered his knife. He had let his guard down. The way he was facing was the fastest route to get out of the alley, but went in the opposite direction of Matias' apartment.

The other two people walked in front of him, one a woman and one another man. The woman was tall and muscular. The type of look you'd expect from someone in this situation. However, the man was short and a little chubby. He couldn't be taller than 5'6 and didn't look intimidating in the slightest. Matias was sure he could outrun all three of them.

His thoughts were interrupted when he felt a cold metal on the back of his head.

"Why don't we take you back to the boss, he'll be delighted to hear that you came back here knowing this is his territory, and that you owe him lots of money" it sounded as if the man was talking through his teeth, but he somehow managed to still sound a bit wimpy.

Matias cringed at how the man spoke like a side kick in some comic, but realized all too fast that he shouldn't be worrying about that right now.

Right as the woman took a single step forward to grab Matias, he got an idea. It might've been far from a perfect plan, but it was all that he had.

Matias horse kicked the man behind him, landing his heel right in the man's privates. He ducked as he did this, but the man was distracted by pain and didn't fire the gun. He must've been really new.

Matias jumped left, going around the muscular woman. He kept on forward away from the woman until he reached the two men who were now side by side blocking him from escaping. But Matias couldn't stop. Not with muscle lady on his ass and the other man slowly recovering and probably realizing that he still has the gun.

He slowed down just enough to kick the chubby man square in his stomach, knocking him to the ground. Matias once again continued forward, but not before the last man standing jumped at him. He knew he needed to keep moving forward, but came to a shockingly fast pause, causing the man to fall to the ground.

The man caused Matias to stop just long enough for the woman to grab his collar and pin him to the wall. The cold metal of her knife caused Matias to flinch as it was pressed against his throat. His face scrunched up as he furrowed his brows and clenched his jaw.

"Don't just sit there, get the gun you idiot!" The woman shouted back at the only man who wasn't injured.

Usually most people through here would have guns, even if they couldn't shoot, so it puzzled Matias that only one of the five had one. He quickly realized that was the last thing he should be thinking about when the woman turned back to him and her look alone sent shivers down his spine. She had an aged face with multiple piercings all over. She had scars on multiple parts of her face and her eyes held a fire that makes you want to jump in it just so you can perish and never bear witness to it again.

The man approached the woman and held out the gun for her to grab. This was his last chance. Matias lunged both of his legs forward catching both of the two off guard. The man dropped the gun and the woman hesitated too long with her knife on Matias' throat. Matias turned out of the way of the knife and only got a non-fatal cut across his neck.

Matias took some quick steps backwards, not yet far away enough to turn his back on them. Just as he was about to take off the woman lunged at him. It was like half a second passed and she moved from multiple feet away to crashing into his body.

Matias felt an excruciating pain on the left of his lower torso before crashing to the ground with the woman on top of him. Everything went hazy for a moment before the pain in his torso intensified and he saw the woman holding a knife covered in thick, red, blood. It was only then that he really got a grip on the situation. He had been stabbed.

His breathing quickened and he was huffing through every breath. The pain in his wound was agonizing and it took everything he had to not scream out. The pain distracted him long enough for the woman, who was now sitting on top of him, to grab one of his arms and pin it above his head.

She set down her knife for just a second before moving to grab his other hand. Without thinking or even realizing what he was doing he snatched up the knife and swung his arm up. He had put the knife through her side of her skull with no hesitation.

Her blood dripped down onto Matias' face before her body went limp and fell onto his shoulder. The reality of the situation hit him all at once as he shoved the body off of him and stood up fast.

He stumbled around for a few moments, from both pain and fear before putting a hand on the wall and catching his balance. His gaze shot up to the men who had all at least somewhat recovered from his attacks and were now staring at the woman's dead body.

Matias couldn't even think of what he had done, all he could think about is how he needed to get out of there. He took a few steps forward and grabbed the gun off the ground, pointing it at the three men, one of which was still on the ground.

"You.. you try to follow or attack me and I'll shoot your ass!" Matias yelled in an attempt to hide the worry and fear in his voice.

The three men stayed silent and unmoving.

Matias glanced at each of them one more time before turning and rounding the corner. He would never make it back to his house like this, and he couldn't go to police or doctors. He had no family in the area and his only friend was Lexi who he would never be able to explain this to, so he went the only place he knew he could go.

It was now dark outside and there was nobody on the sidewalks. Matias slowly staggered through the city. He was almost there when he realized he had nothing to show for who he was. If he showed up exactly as he was right then, he would just be Matias. He figured that would cause more confusion, which would need more explanation, which would waste his time.

Matias didn't have to consider his options for very long before he rounded a corner into a dark gap between two buildings. The same gap between buildings that the hero had used the night the villain discovered his identity.

Matias did his best to push away the pain coming from all over. The bullet hole in his arm, the slice across his neck, the stab wound by his stomach, and the general ache from all the running and fighting. It was indescribable.

He pulled his hoodie off his waist and slowly turned it right side out, trying to avoid causing himself too much pain. He pulled the hoodie over his head with his good arm before putting it through the arm hole. He then lifted his injured arm to put it into its sleeve, but quickly decided it wasn't worth it and left it out, sitting inside the torso part of the jacket.

Matias stood still for a moment trying to let the pain calm down a bit before he continued. He pulled his black mask from his back pocket and winced as he held both his arms up to clip it behind is neck. He decided the hat was too much work and he continued stumbling down the sidewalk. He walked at an annoyingly slow pace and his hand never left the side of the buildings as he used them for support.

Finally, he had reached where he had been trying to go. Though he had spent 20 agonizing minutes trying to get here, he was now hesitant. He stared at the hero's door, forgetting the pain as best he could.

The hero had a family in here right? Would he be interrupting a family movie or scaring his wife? Matias stood at the door for another five minutes rethinking all of it. He wasn't really sure the hero and a family. And he especially wasn't sure the hero had a wife. Besides his situation was more dire than a movie, right?

The pain was getting the better of him and he stopped thinking. He finally lifted his hand to knock on the door and silently cursed that this house didn't have a doorbell. He did his best to knock but found his arm too weak to make a sound loud enough to be heard from inside the house. He took a step back and kicked the door a few times. His legs were also very weak and didn't make a sound as loud as he would've liked, but all he could do was pray that the man inside heard it.

He shifted and put more weight onto the wall. He was dripping blood everywhere and was begging his body not to give out. A few more moments passed and it finally happened. The door opened.

The villain raised his head weakly and met Samuels gaze.

The look on Samuels face couldn't be described as anything but pure shock. The villain was on his door step, bleeding out, and looking at him like it was nothing.

"I... uhm.. how.. why are you-" Samuel couldn't decide where to start. He had so many questions along side all his fears.

"Please just let me in" the villain paused and huffed a few ragged breathes

"I'll explain everything... I swear"

Never in his life did he think he'd find himself pleading for the heroes help at his doorstep.

The hero gasped and covered his face with his hands. It all hit time like a wave. The villain and the hero weren't encountering each other. The villain and Samuel were.

"Why are you here!"

He finally worked up his courage and needed to know how the villain knew his address and why he was begging for his help.

The villain shifted his gaze down to the concrete between himself and the hero.

"I had nowhere else to go" the villain spoke in a pathetic voice, no louder than a whisper.

"What?" The hero breathed out

He had heard what the villain said, he just couldn't believe it.

"I had nowhere else to go!" The villain half-shouted before grunting and falling to his knees, gripping his stomach.

"Hey, hey take it easy!" The hero started to move towards the villain before pausing and stepping back.

"Just stay here for a few minutes. I'll be right back, I promise"

And with that he closed the door and retreated back into his house.

"Damnit" the villain mumbled and got comfortable against the wall.

He didn't know if the hero was going to come back or not, but he was too tired to care. He leaned his head back on the brick wall and finally let himself rest.

----------------------------------------- I told y'all we were getting to the good part!

Sorry the update is late, I just had my first few days of school and completely forgot about the story.
