Chapter 4 part 2

Samuel

Ellie had picked out a movie for her and her father to watch to end their long day of fun and games. Now Ellie's head was bobbing up and down, desperately trying to stay awake through the movie.

Samuel looked down at his daughter with loving eyes, simply appreciating the moment. That was until the moment was interrupted by faint knocking at the door.

"I'll be right back baby" Samuel whispered as he stood up and headed for the door. He didn't know what he expected to be at the other side of the door, but it certainly isn't what he was met with.

His eyes widened as he stared down at the villain who was hunched over and leaning onto the wall for support, breathing unsteadily and bleeding on everything around.

Samuel was still taking in the image before him when the villain looked up at him. His eyes didn't seem to have any emotion in them and Samuel was drawn into them, realizing this is the most he's ever seen of the villains appearance.

His hair wasn't covered by any kind of hat or hood and his mask wasn't pulled up quite as high as usual. It looked.. familiar?

The hero pushed all the irrelevant thoughts aside and all the questions began rolling into his mind. How did the villain know where he lived? Did the villain even know that Samuel was the hero? Why had he just turned up at his doorstep like this?

"I... uhm.. how.. why are you-" Samuel struggled to make his words match up with his thoughts, but his mind was moving too fast.

"Please just let me in" the villains voice was quiet and much calmer than normal, though his words were followed by huffs of air and choked coughs.

"I'll explain everything... I promise" the villain was pleading with the hero. Practically begging the hero to help him out.

Samuel finally calmed down enough to process the situation. The villain definitely knew he was at the heroes house.. and he was staring right at the heroes unmasked face!

Samuel sucked in a bit of air and used his hands to cover his face. He could feel his heart rate speeding up.

"Why are you here?!" The hero spat at the villain.

There was no way the villain was genuinely hurt and asking for the heroes help. The same guy who stole, killed, and encouraged violence? No way.

The hero watched as the villains gaze dropped to the ground between them. This was just an act, right?

"I had nowhere else to go" the villain spoke in a small, weak voice that the hero never would've expected to come out of the villains mouth.

"What?" The hero mumbled, getting lost in thought once more.

He had heard the villain, but didn't know if he could believe him or not. For the hero, it was a 50/50 chance of if the villain was tricking him or if the villain was actually in distress.

"I had nowhere else to go!" The villain shouted firmly before doubling over in pain.

The villain fell to the ground and wrapped an arm around his stomach.

"Hey, hey take it easy!" The hero took a step forward and started to extend an arm to help before quickly pulling himself back. It was as if all of his feelings were in a war and he didn't know what to do.

However, he was now sure of one thing. The villain really did need Samuels help.

"Just stay right here for a few minutes. I'll be right back, I promise."

The hero wanted to help the villain, but he couldn't have the villain knowing too much about his life.

He made his way to the living room couch that his daughter was now fast asleep on and scooped her up off of it. The extra weight was hard on his still injured leg, but he didn't want to wake her. He laid her in her bed and left the room as quickly and quietly as he could.

He did his best to hide any evidence of Ellie. He picked up a few toys that made their way out of her room, grabbed all the games they had played earlier that day, and turned off the tv, which still had a Disney movie displayed on it.

Samuel grabbed a typical white cloth mask and put it on to hide his face. He gave the room one last look around before returning to the door.

He took a deep breath and opened the door only to find the villain sitting on the concrete, unmoving.

"Hey, hey! Are you alright?" The hero crouched down next to the villain and put a gentle hand on his back.

The villain opened his eyes slightly before making eye contact with the hero and jolting back, almost hitting his head on the bricks behind him. His breathing quickened and he tried to stand only to be met with a sharp pain in his torso and start falling back down.

The hero reached his arms out in an attempt to keep the villain from hurting himself further.

"Calm down, it's okay. Do you remember what happened?"

The hero stepped in front of the villain and put a hand on each of his shoulders, doing his best to balance him. The villain looked up at the hero and for just a moment the hero was sure he saw some real, strong emotion in his eyes.

That was until the villain pushed the hero away and looked back down at the concrete coldly.

"You're hurt. You said you had nowhere else to go." The hero reminded the villain.

"I remember, how much of a dumbass do you take me for?" The villain put his walls back up and spat out his response.

"You came to my house asking for help, I really don't think you have the right to be upset while I'm trying to help."

The hero did his best to control his tone. He thought the villains attitude was uncalled for, but still wanted to help. It wasn't right to deny anyone in this kind of situation. Even if it was the villain.

"Just come inside, please?" The hero tilted his head trying to make the villain look up at him. Of course it was to no avail.

"Let me patch you up at least. You don't even have to tell me how all of this happened"

The villain looked up only enough to see the heroes chest. The hero couldn't read his actions no matter how hard he tried, but he did notice the villain taking a few shaky breaths before opening his mouth.

"You're going to have to help me inside."

The heroes eyes lit up and he immediately went to grab the heroes arm. He noticed for the first time that it wasn't through its sleeve.

"I'll explain once we're inside" the villain said seeing the heroes confusion.

"Alright" the hero mumbled back as he went around the villain to grab his other arm.

The hero wrapped the villains arm around his shoulders before carefully grabbing the villain around his shoulder for support.

"Is this okay? I'm not hurting you at all am I?" The hero had now broken a sweat stressing about the villain.

"What a gentleman" he mocked

"I'm fine, but you might want to focus a little more on yourself with a bullet in your leg."

The hero stiffened, forgetting the villain knew about that.

They slowly made their way into the house and the hero sat the villain down on the couch as he fetched all of his first-aid equipment.

"Is all of that really necessary?" The villain questioned.

"Of course it is! You dripped blood all over my deck so it must be pretty bad" the hero informed, not looking up from the supplies he was fetching out of a basket.

"Anyways, you're going to have to take that hoodie off. Here I'll help you"

The hero stood up and went to grab the bottom of the hoodie.

"No, no it's fine. I can take it off myself, theres no need to treat me like a helpless puppy"

The hero crossed his arms and watched the villain struggle with his hoodie for a few moments.

"You sure you don't want help?" The hero smirked

The villain paused and looked up at the hero, a scowl presented on his face.

"Fine."

The hero pulled at the bottom of the hoodie, only pulling it up to the villains elbow before gasping and dropping the jacket. The villain looked up at him, a sarcastic look on his face.

"Sorry, sorry! I just.. didn't expect it to be that bad" the hero spoke quickly

"It's gonna get worse if ya don't help me get this damn hoodie off" the villain raised an eyebrow at the hero.

The hero took a quick breath.

"Sorry, here,"

The hero reached for the hoodie again and slowly pulled it off of the villains body. His face scrunched up looking at the villains wounds.

"I uh.. I don't know where to start"

The heroes eyes never left the villains broken body, scanning over the bullet through his arm, stab in his stomach, and slash in his throat.

"You can take that mask off ya know?" The villain strayed the topic away from his wounds.

"What?" The hero asked in disbelief

"I already know what you look like, there's no point in wearing that mask. Besides, white isn't your color" the villain teased.

The hero looked away from the villain and began picking out specific first aid supplies and setting them closer to the couch.

"I'll start with this one." The hero gestured to the villain's stomach.

"You're going to have to lay down"
