Both men stared at each other with great contempt, one with a purpose, the other just because he could.
Enzo would never understand why Dimitri hated him this much, he'd never done anything to cross him, ever since taking the position of Don, after the sudden and mysterious death of his father.
Dimitri had been the ruler of the Russian mafia, way before Enzo took over from his father, but this hatred directed towards him was something he never understood.
But now he felt like, Dimitri was just jealous of him, because he was married to one of the most feared women in the underworld, that was why he kidnapped her, or rather her sister, thinking it was her
His eyes moved from Dimitri and landed on her, she looked frightened, scared and timid, like she always looked. Yes she looked like his wife, but they were different in so many ways, she was shy, timid and inexperienced, especially with mafia things, but his wife was bold, outspoken and very skilled.
He knew she'd had to have endured a lot from Dimitri, he knew how heartless he can be with hostages.
Dimitri saw how his gaze moved from him to the woman standing beside him, he smirked when he saw the pained expression on Enzo's face.
This is what he wanted, he would bring them both to their knees for him They didn't deserve his pity or consideration. His hold on her tightened because he wouldn't be taking any chances tonight, she was his and it'll remain that way until he said otherwise.
"Well well, if it isn't the husband of the year" Dimitri muttered with a smirk, Enzo tensed at that and Tatum stepped up to reduce the tension.
He had set up this ball to expand his allies and not to have them killing each other, he'd heard of the rumors but never thought it true until he saw her tonight with Dimitri.
She looked exactly like they'd all told him, the stories and tales, although he couldn't see her face, he knew from her body that she was a beautiful goddess.
"Dimitri, keep it together, no murdering each other remember" He muttered stepping closely beside Dimitri.
Cora was dumbstruck, he was here, Enzo was here. How badly she wanted to ask him if her sister was here too, she wanted to free herself from the devil's grip and go with Enzo but she couldn't, unless of course she wanted to die.
Her eyes moved around the hall in search of Cara but she came back unsuccessful, her eyes landed on Enzo again and he had a look of sadness and regret for her.
Tears were blinding her vision so she quickly looked away. Enzo knew she was looking for her sister and as much as he wanted to speak to her, he couldn't because Dimitri was already walking away with her in his arms.
He was not stupid, he knew he couldn't do anything rational, Dimitri wouldn't bring her out here without setting a few things in place, he couldn't risk her life.
He clenched his jaw as his second in command stepped beside him "What should we do boss"? He asked and Enzo just looked at him before looking back at Dimitri and Cora's back disappear in the crowd.
"Nothing" he breathe out and his second in command just stood there clueless, he didn't understand why his boss would ask them to do nothing, this was their Donna's sister, and they all knew how much her disappearance had affected their Donna so much
"But boss...." He started speaking but his capo cut him off
"We can't risk it Gabe, the moment we do anything, he'll kill her" he explained to his second in command. If anything happened to Cora, Cara won't take it lightly, they had to thread carefully.
The night was still young, they had enough time to come up with a plan that wouldn't get Cora killed.
He remembered how it was when she was just taken, Cara wouldn't eat or sleep for days, she kept blaming herself for her sisters kidnap.
They were ambushed in their own home, and deceived into leaving the girl alone in her room, only to come back minutes later to find her gone and the two guards stationed at her door, shot dead.
After searching for almost a month and coming up short with nothing, they finally get a call from Dimitri, and that was when he received the first video of her tied up in a chair, beaten, bruised and soaking wet.
Dimitri had sent the video telling Enzo how good his wife looked tied up to a chair, Cara almost killed herself after watching it because she said she was the reason her sister was suffering.
Dimitri took her thinking, it was Cara, apparently he didn't know they were twins, actually only a few people knew, and those few included him, his men and her parents
And now she was here with Dimitri and he couldn't do anything because he'd be risking her life if he did. They'd been trying to find out where he put her but it had been unsuccessful.
They knew it was Russia but where in Russia? He had to quickly find his wife and tell her to keep away from public eye.
He brought her here not knowing, Dimitri would be here and that too with Cora.
If Dimitri knew that Cora wasn't Cara at all and they're two different people, he'd kill her
He pulled out his phone and called his wife
"Where are you"? He asked immediately she picked up
"Bathroom, why'd you ask"? She felt something was wrong but she wanted to know why
"Stay there, Gabe is coming to get you and you'd both leave through the back door" he instructed, she couldn't understand why he suddenly wanted her to leave, was the place under attack
"Is something wrong babe"? She asked and he just breath out "I'm coming to meet you" she said and he quickly stopped her, she can't be here, not now
"Just stay there Cara, I'll explain to you later, Gabe will come get you and you'll both leave" he rushed out, the other line was silent for a while before she breathe out
"Okay" she whispered, she didn't know why he suddenly wanted her to leave but she'd trust him and leave.
Ever since the kidnap of her sister, she hadn't really been the same again, she blames herself for it She was the one Dimitri wanted but because of the uncanny resemblance between both of them, he took the wrong sister without even realizing it
But she didn't know why Dimitri would want her of all people, she'd never had any dealings with him whatsoever.
Dimitri had seen how beautiful Cara looked earlier on, he couldn't help but stare at her, for a moment he was remorseful for all he had to do to her but all that vanished away when he saw her husband.
They don't deserve his remorse or pity, to think he'd even somehow let her thoughts cloud his mind, ever since that day he walked in on her naked, his mind has been filled with so many obscene things about her.
He was clutching her hand tightly while she stood beside him after they'd walked out on Lorenzo, she was nervous, he could tell because her palms were sweaty but he dared not let her go.
He almost didn't bring her because Ivan had almost talked his ear off as to why it was a bad idea bringing her with him
She was a prey here, everyone who knew who she was would want her for himself, that was why he was glad it was a masquerade themed ball, it would be hard for anyone to recognize her.
Cora thought she didn't want her sister here but seeing Lorenzo changed that, she wished her sister was in fact present here, she'd missed her greatly and even if for just a second she wanted to have a glimpse of her.
Dimitri could see every fucker in the hall moping at her, he wanted to pluck their eyes off, for some reason, he wasn't okay with them eye fucking her even though she was with him.
For all they know she may be his wife.
Lorenzo was still deep in thoughts, how would he get Cora out of this mess without putting her life in danger? He barely even focused on the ball anymore, Gabe had successfully escorted Cara out of the place and back home, now he could focus on getting Cora out of Dimitri's reach.
If only she can excuse herself and go to the bathroom he'd have enough time to help her, but Dimitri wouldn't even let her.
He walked further into the Hall and stood a few feet away from both of them, he didn't like how Dimitri's hands were on Cora
She may not be his actual wife but she was innocent in all of this, she doesn't even know how to defend herself, she barely ever had any interaction with them back when she was still at the mansion.
The event had seemingly progressed and Cora had come to understand that the ball was just a guise for these men to sell and do all sorts of shady business.
She hadn't left Dimitri side all evening, he had made sure of it, even when he talked business and confidential things, he made sure she was standing right beside him
She really didn't like how they discussed killing and drugs without any care in the world, she didn't feel comfortable with it.
Back at Enzo's mansion, she'd never been familiar with things like that, she always made sure to stay away from them and their business but here with Dimitri, he forced her to be a part of it.
She was beginning to feel pressed and her legs were getting tired and numb from too much standing, she had tried shifting her weight from one foot to another but it was of no use.
She finally gave up and decided to speak up, she looked at the man beside her, he was very engrossed in the conversation he was having that he didn't even notice that she was uncomfortable, or maybe he did but didn't just care.
She contemplated to talk or not but the uneasiness between her legs couldn't wait any longer.
"Dimitri" she whispered, this'll be the first time she'd be calling his name in all of the 3 months she'd been under his captivity.
It was only but a whisper but he heard it and not only that but it stirred something in him, never had he heard her voice so soft and soothing.
He felt his heart palpitate at the voice and the way his name rolled off her tongue, he looked down to her to find her staring at him, those brown eyes looking at him with sadness and emptiness.
"I need to use the bathroom please" she pleaded hoping this devil of a man would at least listen to her and let her relieve herself of this sensation she was feeling
For a good minute, he was dumbstruck as he stared at her, why did his name sound so sweet coming from her, no one had ever said his name with so much calm and quiet before.
He finally regained his senses before he clenched his jaw, what was wrong with him, was he really just admiring her?
"No" he snapped and she felt defeated but she couldn't hold it in any longer.
"Dimitri please, I really need to go" she whispered, he looked at her and saw that she was indeed really uncomfortable but there was no way he would let her go on her own.
The bomb was still very active and he couldn't be more than 5 feet away from her. He quickly looked at the men he were talking with an excused himself before looking back at her.
"Let's go" he grumbled before pulling her with him again, as they both headed for the bathroom
Lorenzo was watching their little exchange, he was at first happy that she'd attempted to leave his side and had hope that he'd be able to talk to her and possibly save her but that hope died down the moment he saw Dimitri follow her.
This was his only chance, he had to do something, so he signaled the only person in the room that he could rely on and would help him
Who do you think Enzo called??
Will he be able to save Cora??
