Evie

Evie stood before her open closet, arms crossed, biting her lower lip. The black dress shimmered under the soft light—a satin piece that clung to her curves perfectly—but the sky-blue dress, delicate and flowing, highlighted her eyes.

"Ugh... why is this so hard?" she groaned, grabbing both dresses and tossing them onto her bed. There was a party tomorrow night—one she should've been excited about—but something felt... off. An unsettling buzz lingered in her chest all morning. Maybe she was just overthinking.

Evie sighed, plopping onto her bed, running her fingers through her chestnut waves. Her phone buzzed beside her with a text from her best friend, Lily.

Lily: "You better not flake tomorrow! I expect you in something that turns heads!"

She chuckled. "No pressure at all, huh?" she mumbled, typing back: "Black or blue?"

Instant reply. Lily: "BLACK. Duh. Sexy vibes only."

Rolling her eyes fondly, Evie set the phone down. "Black it is, then—"

A sudden sharp pain shot through her skull. "Ow—what the hell?" Her vision blurred, the room spinning as if someone had yanked the ground out from beneath her. Panic clawed up her throat. She tried to stand, but her legs buckled.

This isn't normal.

Heart racing, she reached for the nightstand, knocking her water bottle over. Her surroundings melted into a swirl of colors—her room, the dresses, the texts—all fading into a kaleidoscope of light.

"Am I... dying? Dreaming? What's happening?!" Her thoughts spiraled. Coldness seeped into her bones, and then—

Nothing.
