It had been a while since Logan was left alone to warn the boy who was with Barron's group. As time passed in silence, the comforting sound of music in Y/N's ears helped to release any previous tension. After a few minutes, shouting could be heard, coming through the one ear that wasn't covered by the earbuds. Barron's voice sounded angry, but it was abruptly interrupted by a loud noise, which made her feel alert. She knew Barron wouldn't be angry without reason, so she believed. However, the fact that Logan was getting involved made her concerned.
Y/N thought "Logan," as she turned her head in the direction where Ashlyn, Ben, and Tyler were looking. Y/N took out her earbud and handed it back to Ben. She, Taylor, and Ben all stood up quickly, feeling concerned about all the shouting.
But when she turned her head, she noticed Ben quickly approaching to address the situation. And it wasn't a verbal confrontation, it was physical aggression. Y/N realized this was a bad sign and, in her role as Taylor, she tried to stop him from escalating the situation. Y/N knew that Ben had a temper, but she never expected him to resort to violence this quickly.
Ben quickly rushed over and reached out to one of the two guys holding Logan back. His large hand slammed into the red-haired guy's face, causing him to fall to the ground with great force, hitting the back of his head. Logan took advantage of the distraction and broke free from the remaining guy's grip, joining Ben in fighting off their attackers.
"Ben!" Taylor yelled as she tried to calm him down. However, she was interrupted when a girl with light purple hair grabbed Taylor's hair, causing Y/N to become alert.
"Who are you?!"
"Back off!" Y/N didn't want to resort to physical force because she didn't want to harm anyone. However, something inside her snapped.
"TAYLOR!" Tyler shouted as he ran towards her, but he was punched in the face by one of Barron's guys.
"TYLER!"
She was about to confront the random girl who attacked Taylor, but she was instead kicked in the stomach by the girl. Y/N had to take a moment to recover, but she did so instantly. She gritted her teeth in pain as she staggered back, holding her stomach. The adrenaline pumping through her veins fueled her anger, and she quickly regained her composure.
She could feel the anger boiling inside her, a primal instinct taking over. Y/N tried to push it down, to regain control of her emotions, but it was too late. The adrenaline surged through her veins, fueling her actions as she lashed out with a strength she didn't know she possessed. In that moment, all thoughts of restraint vanished as she unleashed a fury she never knew she had in her. The consequences of her actions would weigh heavily on her conscience, but in that moment, all she could focus on was the overwhelming need to protect herself and those she cared about.
"Knock it off!" Y/N pulled the light purple hair girl off, yanking her hair hard as she fell back holding her head at the force. She was breathing heavily and clenching her fist as she looked down at the girl who was slightly beaten. Y/N turned to her side seeing Taylor and asked, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just my head-"
Taylor didn't have a chance to react as the girl kicked Y/N's knee, causing her to fall down. Taylor tried to help Y/N up, but she was also attacked. The girl took advantage of the distraction to get up from the ground and pulled Taylor by her hair, trapping her arm to prevent her from escaping.
Y/N was about to help Taylor, but a sudden cry made her turn back. She recognized the voice as Ashlyn's. Y/N's heart sank as she heard Ashlyn's cry. When she looked over, she noticed Ashlyn kneeling down, covering her ears with her hands to block out the noises. She knew she had to make a split-second decision - help Taylor or go to Ashlyn's aid.
"Ashlyn!" Aiden called out to her, but suddenly he was punched in the face.
Y/N quickly turned around and saw Taylor struggling a bit. "Go to her, I've got this," Taylor said as she groaned under the grip of purple hair.
Y/N hesitated for a moment, but then her eyes narrowed with determination. She gave a quick nod before turning away from the fight and running towards the distressed redhead.
Amidst all the chaos, with everyone fighting, she focused on helping Ashlyn. She crouched down and saw Ashlyn trembling, wanting everything to stop. Y/N was confused as to why Ashlyn was covering her ears. She anxiously asked, "A-ah, um! What's wrong, Ashlyn?!"
"I-ITS...SO LOUD!" Ashlyn cried out.
It made Y/N quickly realized how loud it was, triggering her sensitivity to noise. Y/N had momentarily forgotten about this amidst everything else.
Watching her struggle to cover her ears made Y/N want to help. She placed her hand over both of Ashlyn's ears, applying a bit more pressure, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Y/N couldn't even imagine how uncomfortable it must be for Ashlyn. Y/N never fully understood how Ashlyn's hearing worked. She knew Ashlyn was sensitive to loud noises in reality, but she didn't understand how it was different in the phantom dimension.
More questions always arose after discovering new things, but now was not the time to ponder those possibilities. Right now, she had to focus on helping Ashlyn with her pain from the sensation of sensitivity, even though Y/N didn't experience it herself, she could tell it was painful. She couldn't see the strain on Ashlyn's face, but she could imagine it. Y/N looked around, hoping to find something that could help, but nothing seemed to work. Then, she noticed a pair of headphones on the ground in the distance.
Recalling Ashlyn wearing those headphones from earlier, Y/N thought that might be the solution. As she was getting ready to reach for the headphones, she stopped when she heard the sounds of frustration and anger from the others, the sound of fists clashing echoing in her ears. Turning her head, she saw chaos unfolding and felt a rush of negative emotions - anger, rage, and anxiety. She stood frozen in place, wide-eyed and gritting her teeth. This reaction was unusual for her, and she wondered if it was because of Barron or the situation they were in, or both.
Y/N felt a strong urge to do something. The sounds of fists hitting Barron's group filled the air. Y/N's emotions were escalating rapidly, causing her eyes to twitch and her breathing to become unsteady. She felt a surge of anger and had the urge to hurt someone. The tension in the room was high, with punches and kicks being thrown around.
Y/N and the group were all feeling aggressive, except for Ashlyn, who was crying from all the noise. Y/N felt like she was in a trance, unconsciously applying pressure to Ashlyn's ear while staring at the group. She felt paralyzed by her anger, unable to move because she couldn't leave Ashlyn's side. She could feel the tension building, the aggression in the air thickening with each passing moment. But despite her own anger simmering just beneath the surface, she couldn't bring herself to join in.
As much as Y/N wanted to confront the group, to make them stop and see reason, she knew that it wouldn't end well. The situation was already volatile enough without her adding fuel to the fire.
So instead, she focused on comforting Ashlyn, trying to shield her from the worst of it. As she watched the chaos unfold, her thoughts felt hazy. A strange surge of energy ran through her, tempting her to create even more chaos than what was already happening. Unbeknownst to them, the lights started flickering and phantom figures appeared in the windows, adding to the chaos.
Ashlyn was overwhelmed by the noise and the presence of the phantoms, which affected her more due to her sensitivity and connection to the other dimension. As the chaos intensified, Ashlyn felt a surge of energy coursing through her body, causing her to shiver uncontrollably. She closed her eyes and focused on grounding herself, trying to block out the overwhelming sensations threatening to consume her.
"CALM DOWN!" Everyone in the group was startled by Ashlyn's words, which triggered a sense of familiarity. They suddenly became aware of the situation and felt a shockwave of realization wash over them, bringing them back to their senses.
It took a moment for everyone to understand the situation as Barron's men and Barron himself were seen leaving the scene. Everyone present was in shock and confusion, trying to process what had just happened. The flickering lights stopped and the area was illuminated once again. The group stood frozen in silence, trying to make sense of the situation. Y/N felt Ashlyn's hands trying to lower, but Y/N's pressure made it difficult.
Eventually, Ashlyn's hands were released from Y/N's grip. Y/N's hands moved away as she slowly lowered her hand. Her gaze remained fixed on the group in the center, her expression filled with surprise.
"Just... what was that?" Taylor asked, hugging her elbows as she tried to make sense of the strange sensation they all just experienced. "... I'm not usually that... violent." she said, her expression showing anxiety, apprehension, and nervousness.
It took Y/N a moment to process the strange occurrence that just happened. "What was that... This... Energy- the sensation was just..." She lowered her head and thought to herself.
"...Yeah well, they attacked us first. Maybe we did go overboard... but at the very least they deserved it." He stood with his arms crossed, his expression beaten but stern, his eyes narrowed.
"No... guys, honestly something didn't feel right." Y/N got up on her knees and placed a hand on her arm. "Did you feel... something off, too?"
Everyone remained quiet.
She felt a chill running through her body, causing her to shudder. This sensation was not welcoming, as if a new side of her had taken over, with little of her consciousness remaining.
"... I don't think that's just the problem." said Ashlyn, her eyes widening with shock. "Their not wrong, however... this could be... bad."
"What are you talking about?" Tyler asked.
She started by saying, "... You guys..." then paused for a moment before continuing, "...were making the same sounds as the phantom do."
That... didn't sound good.
A tall man wearing a black hood was sitting on the roof, away from the light and partially hidden in the shadows. He was smoking a joint and eavesdropping on the group below without them knowing. The man, whose name is Ryan unknown to them, has been constantly keeping track of them, listening and watching from the shadows. This explains why Ashlyn has been hearing things around the graveyard.
It's unclear how long he's been there, but he clearly has a purpose. Many things have happened with the group unaware of his presence, leading to more conflicts and confusion coming their way unexpectedly.
However, they will soon face bigger challenges, and time will show that these challenges will arrive very soon.
Yeah... I know, this is all I got. However, I'm telling y'all there's gonna be lots, and lots of angst stuff coming. Ooh, boy...
