After a surprising conflict and unexpected events, the group decided it was best for them to leave considering their situation. Luckily, they were fortunate to not have sustained any serious injuries during their altercation. They were only left with bruises and dirt, but none of them suffered any major harm. Ashlyn reached out to her dad to ask for a ride home after their fun and lively time was over. At the same time, Y/N also decided to contact her dad.
Shortly after, Ashlyn realized that while she would be leaving with the rest of the group, Y/N would be left alone at the arcade. However, Y/N was not bothered by this because it would help clear her mind.
After waiting inside for a while for Ashlyn's dad, the group decided to go outside and wait since her dad said he would be there in a few minutes. As they waited, there was a silence that felt slightly awkward, with some lingering tension after the recent events. After a few minutes, Ashlyn's dad, Mike, arrived in the jeep and observed the group, noticing their current condition.
"…What happened to you guys?"
Y/N observed the group getting into the vehicle, noticing a hesitant look in their eyes as if they were unsure about leaving her alone.
"Do you really not want me to come back for you? I can call your dad and let him know I got it." Mike's generous offer made her think for a moment. The girl thought it would be efficient, but she didn't want to be a burden since she had already made a call beforehand.
"It's okay. I already contacted him and he's on his way, but thanks." Y/N then looked at the others and said, "I guess I'll see you guys later then."
The redhead nodded and as they were about to leave, Y/N called out, "Um, hey Ashlyn." Ashlyn's gaze turned towards Y/N. "Thanks for this. I kind of feel like I needed some outdoor activities," Y/N said, placing a hand on the back of her neck. She glanced to the side and mumbled to herself, "Even if it's not my thing."
"Let's remember that we all came up with this idea together." Tyler made a comment from the back, rolling his eyes. "Overall, the experience was just okay."
"Yeah, it was an okay experience, for the most part at least." She thought about the earlier confrontation with Barron's group, which made her sigh and push that thought away. "Yeah, I know. I can't say I don't agree."
"Well, I'm glad you had fun at least, while it lasted." Taylor said solemnly as her shoulders slouched, feeling a bit dejected.
"We'll try to get back with an explanation once we figure things out."
"Alright. See you." Y/N gave a slight wave.
Y/N stood still as the car drove away, feeling the breeze and the quietness around her. Waiting outside, she couldn't stop thinking about the strange emotions they had all just gone through. The lingering feeling reminded her of Ashlyn's words. This sudden shift in behavior among them could lead to more worry and confusion within the group. It was new and unsettling, meaning there was still a lot of mystery to uncover in the phantom world and their connection to it.
Y/N sat quietly, absorbing the peaceful surroundings. She breathed in gently through her nose, letting her gaze wander around the empty parking lot. She sat at the edge of the pavement, deep in thought with her hand on her cheek. Unlike before, her face was now clean, no longer covered in dust and dirt. She looked down at the road with a somewhat bored expression. Suddenly, she recalled the intense anger she had felt earlier, a strong agitation that seemed to be holding her back from being herself. This feeling urged her to act out of character, making her wonder if others in the group felt the same way.
After some time, she spotted a familiar car in the distance and assumed it was her dad. As the car approached her, she stood up, only to realize it was Drake behind the wheel. He parked next to her and gestured for her to get in, but she felt annoyed by his presence.
"Dad..." Y/N muttered, squinting at him. Her frown was evident as she moved to the back seat of the car.
Suddenly, a clicking sound was heard from all sides as she tried to open the locked door. Y/N looked into his hazel eyes. It was clear he wanted her to sit in the front, for a reason she couldn't quite understand. Not wanting to argue after what happened at the arcade, she reluctantly got in the passenger seat and slammed the door as they drove home. Y/N turned her body towards the window, clearly not wanting to interact with him. Drake was driving slowly, too slow for her liking. If he wanted to talk, he could have pulled over, but he continued driving. The car was quiet, and so were the two individuals.
Honestly, this situation was making Y/N feel awkward as she shifted a bit. After what happened at the house, she couldn't help but feel anxious.
"I thought my dad was going to pick me up."
He chuckled softly at the girl's words before calming down his tone. "He said he told me to do it because he got busy with something."
"Something?" She asked, glancing her head to the side to see him driving, whose gaze was focused on the road.
"He didn't go into detail." He said while shrugging slightly.
Y/N sighed and turned her head back to the window. "What a lame excuse," she mumbled under her breath as she looked out with a bored expression. She didn't doubt D/N, but she couldn't shake the feeling that this was done intentionally.
"So… How was the arcade experience? Did you and your friends have fun?" Drake tried to start a simple and light-hearted conversation to lighten the mood in the car. It was clear that he was making an effort.
Y/N could see his effort, but she didn't feel like disclosing her experience to him. She knew he would probably freak out when she tells him what happened. She wasn't sure of the consequences of sharing that with him, as he might react negatively. It felt strange to her, even though he was her dad, she felt like she didn't really know the person sitting next to her. Her head was filled with thoughts and wonder, making the situation even more peculiar.
Regardless, she didn't feel like saying anything. All she wanted was peace and quiet after what happened because she already had a lot on her mind.
He sighed and tightened his grip on the wheel before releasing both his breath and his grip. "I knew you would do this," he said, glancing in her direction.
"Perhaps I wouldn't behave this way if you hadn't entered my life so unexpectedly, and at the worst possible time." She thought to herself, with a frown that went unnoticed by him as he was too focused on driving.
Y/N continued to look out the window, seeing her reflection in the corner of the mirror as he briefly looked at her. Drake leaned to the side, resting his elbow on the door while running his hand through his black hair. His hazel eyes softened with a touch of sadness.
He felt pain seeing how much the girl he knew when she was young had changed, partly because of his absence as a father. The look in her eyes was not one of recognition, but of a stranger. This situation made him feel guilty and he had hoped to reconnect with Y/N, but it seemed almost impossible. There were so many things Drake wanted to say, but he found himself at a loss for words. It wasn't that he lacked courage, he just couldn't express himself when his daughter wouldn't even look at him.
"There's so much I want to say to you, but I don't even know where to start or how to explain myself. Just tell me anything that shows me you want to understand. Don't you want to know the truth?"
Y/N squinted her eyes at her reflection as she heard him speak. In fact, she did want to know. Ever since she saw his appearance, that's all she could think about. She wanted to know why and what led to this. And even though she didn't admit it, she craved the truth.
Drake sighed in resignation, knowing he couldn't force her to say anything she didn't want to. He sat in silence until Y/N finally spoke up, willing to start a conversation.
Y/N inquired, "Why did you leave?" She finally asked the question that had been on her mind for so long, turning her head to see his expression more clearly.
"My parents." Drake's voice was bitter as he adjusted himself properly on the seat. "They were busy with work and asked for my help in person. My parents are wealthy and run several businesses, so I assumed they just needed some extra hands." Drake gripped the wheel slightly, catching Y/N's attention. "The business had been in my family for years, and I was next in line to lead."
Y/N was intrigued by this news but didn't think much of it. What puzzled her was why they needed help if they had so many businesses already.
"Yeah, there was a lot going on. What else can I even say? My parents are manipulative, and I guess I'm a victim, as I always have been."
He took a deep breath, almost sounding annoyed as he explained the cause of it all. A small frown appeared on his face and his eyes narrowed slightly. It was clear to Y/N that there was more to the story. She continued to listen, not turning away or interrupting him.
"As a child, I always tried to meet my parents' expectations. However, no matter how hard I tried, it seemed like nothing I did was good enough for them. Even when I did well in school or tried to impress them with my achievements, all they seemed to focus on was preparing me for the future. They had high hopes for me, but their main goal was for me to take over the family business that had been passed down for generations. I guess they expected me to follow in their footsteps."
"Well... Did you?" Initially caught off guard by Y/N's question, his head turned towards her briefly. His eyes shot open for a second before softening, narrowing in thought as he seemed to be reflecting on something.
"Yes, that's exactly what I did. At first, I planned to stay for a week, but when I learned that your mother was sick, I tried to leave. However…" his words started to fade, almost hesitating. "… they didn't let me. Even though I tried to tell them that I wasn't ready to take over the family business, they didn't listen. I couldn't go against them because they took away my privileges and used their connections to limit my freedom. That's when I realized their true motives. Eventually, I was able to contact D/N and explain everything to him. But it didn't take long for my parents to find out about our conversation. Despite talking to your father and explaining the situation, I knew I had to follow my parents' decisions."
Drake narrowed his hazel eyes as he looked at the road. "And just like that, I eventually took over their business... just like they wanted me to." He sighed, lowering his head and closing his eyes while shaking his head slightly. "But... I'm finally here. I can finally see the girl your father raised in front of me. You're beautiful, a very beautiful young girl." He said in a gentle tone, his once annoyed tone weakening as he spoke those words.
Y/N's eyes softened as she listened to everything he told her. The way his words flowed and carried meaning, and the way he was expressing himself made it almost tempting to give in. But to her, it would take more than sweet words to make up her mind. She looked down at her knees, a look of doubt and uncertainty weighing on her mind as she stayed silent in thought.
"Does this mean... You'll stay?" Y/N raised her head back at him, her voice softening.
The sound of her almost pleading and seeking reassurance in her tone reminded him of a child version he used to see when she was younger. She sounded like a lost child wanting her parents to stay by her side. "I won't leave, not now or ever," he reassured her with a smile, reaching out to gently cup her cheek. "So... do you forgive me?"
Y/N's gaze was focused on him, analyzing his expression closely. She could sense the sincerity and compassion in his words, understanding that he genuinely meant what he was saying. The look in his eyes confirmed it all. After taking a moment to collect her thoughts, she was prepared to provide her response, her decision clear in her mind.

.
She said "NO," with a flat expression that lacked emotion.
"Huh?" Drake was visibly surprised and shocked, quickly pulling his hand back as the car suddenly lurched forward briefly and slowed down.
He was definitely taken back by her blunt response. Drake had to compose himself because he wasn't expecting such a direct reply, but he managed to calm his emotions. Deep down, he kind of expected this reaction, but he still held out hope that she would forgive him. However, everyone has to deal with the consequences, even if it wasn't his fault, and Y/N understood that. Y/N blamed only his parents for involving him in their issues while she suffered, and for neglecting her and his feelings. In a moment of silence, Drake let out a light-hearted laugh, showing he had accepted the situation.
He chuckled and placed his hand back on the wheel, remarking, "You're really something." It felt like a special moment, where all past burdens and worries were forgotten. "You have the right to choose not to forgive me, but I won't pressure you to change your mind. I will always love you, even if you hate me. My love for you and your parents will never change, now or in the future."
Y/N blinked and remained silent as she gazed ahead. She wasn't sad or upset, just quiet. "This feeling... It's odd." she thought. Despite this, she felt a slight sense of acceptance. "But... It was nice to hear."
The week passed by quickly and a lot of things happened. After the conversation with her dad, Drake has been spending a lot of time at the house, which she wasn't used to. D/N's parents were happy to have him back and they all caught up on lost time. Everyone seemed happy, especially D/N.
Drake has been trying to talk to Y/N, but she didn't feel like talking to him much. She wasn't used to people leaving her life for so long and then coming back years later. As a teenager, she has grown and just because she has a soft heart doesn't mean she will forgive him easily. Even though she knows it's not his fault, it still made her feel annoyed.
It didn't bother her, but the sudden changes in her life were overwhelming. Despite this, she was still trying to relax. She will eventually gather the courage to talk to him on her own, but for now she is trying to keep to herself.
ANOTHER THING...
Since the incident at the arcade, Aiden has been texting her non-stop all week. He is the one who texts the most every day, even when she is busy or at inconvenient times. Despite already seeing each other at school and in class, he continued to do so.
Dealing with him was a hassle, and Y/N could only imagine how others felt when he did the same to them. It bothered her the most, considering he was the one bothering her. She wasn't sure if he genuinely cared about her or was just checking up on her, but there was no need to constantly message her. She thought about blocking him, but instead, she just muted him whenever he spammed her.
After the arcade, Y/N received a message from Ashlyn as soon as she arrived home. She learned that the phantom was starting to affect reality, which was surprising news. This left her with many questions and thoughts on the matter. Y/N realized they needed to take action to prevent any more negative consequences.
Unfortunately, they couldn't do much to stop the influence on themselves, as it could return since they didn't know how to stop it. Y/N had some theories, like their prolonged exposure to the phantom realm or Ashlyn's ability to hear it. She kept a secret book with all her theories, hidden away in the hopes that it wouldn't be found.
However, they were just theories, some of which may not even be true since her theories could potentially be false. Even so, they were all in her mind, in case any of them are actually accurate. Regardless, she did share some of her opinions in the group chat to avoid making it seem like a lost cause.
Y/N wasn't sure if the group agreed with her thoughts, but she had her own opinions. Despite this, they were all working together to solve problems. However, one day, unexpected events occurred that left Y/N feeling overwhelmed. Even with everything going on, she just hoped she was doing the right thing.
Currently, Y/N was walking outside on the sidewalk, taking slow steps and looking at the neighboring houses. She was on her way to Ashlyn's house for Ben's little sister's birthday party. Y/N found out that Ben's sister's name was Lily, which she found to be a cute name that reminded her of a white lily flower. Her decision to go was last-minute since she didn't have much going on at home, just the usual routine, so she didn't have many plans as she initially thought. She hoped her sudden appearance wouldn't surprise the group too much, but it was a possibility.
She was dressed casually and carrying a gift for Lily as she headed to the Banners' house. She wasn't sure if her parents would arrive on time or at all. However, they had promised to come, and D/N was responsible for bringing the food.
As she approached Ashlyn's house, she walked up the small porch steps and stopped in front of the door, hearing chatter from inside. She felt a bit nervous, as she had never really attended events for people she didn't know, especially since she had no friends. However, things were different now. Taking a deep breath, she pushed aside any doubts and knocked on the door.
Soon, a face appeared and Y/N recognized the redhead hair as Ashlyn. She stood there with her hand on the doorknob, looking at the girl in front of her. It was clear from the look on her face that she wasn't expecting her arrival.
"Y/N, you're here," Ashlyn said, surprised to see her. She slowly released the doorknob, her eyes widening slightly. "I didn't think you were going to show up,"
"Yeah, me neither," Y/N replied, shrugging slightly. "Sorry, I know my arrival is kind of unexpected, but I remembered the invitation and decided to come anyway."
Ashlyn couldn't help but sense that there was more to the situation. She knew something was up, but at the same time, she didn't want to delve too deep into questioning her own or Y/N's reasoning. "Well, I'm glad you put some thought into it. Aiden and Ben are inside, the others haven't arrived yet so you're early."
For some inexplicable reason, Y/N started to doubt if coming here was a good idea. She couldn't tell if it was nerves or just pure doubt she couldn't explain. She had a feeling she would be met with this kind of surprise, so it shouldn't be a problem. They even invited her, so there shouldn't be an issue, at least she hoped.
There was a brief moment of silence as the two of them stood alone, each lost in their own thoughts. Y/N knew that the silence wouldn't last long, so she decided to break it.
Y/N glanced inside the house and asked, "Can I come in?" She raised her eyebrows, seeking permission.
"Um, yeah. Of course, come in." Ashlyn replied. She excused herself and made way for Y/N to enter.
Upon entering the room, she immediately noticed the change in atmosphere at Ashlyn's house. It had a very comfortable and relaxed vibe. The surroundings were peaceful, except for the light-hearted conversations she heard from all around. She recognized Ashlyn's parents' voices and saw the new faces of Aiden's parents. As soon as she stepped inside, she saw the Clarks, with Ben holding a child - presumably the birthday girl, Lily.
Y/N observed that the girl had long brown hair, similar to her brother's hair color, leading her to believe that she must be the girl they were talking about. Y/N noticed Ashlyn and Aiden's parents chatting, but she decided not to interrupt. While Y/N enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, Aiden noticed her arrival and his smile seemed to brighten. With his red eyes, Aiden spotted Y/N holding a present and called out to her with his usual smile.
"Hey, you made it!" he said with a chuckling smile, a hint of surprise visible on his face as he seemed happy.
The girl's calm expression faltered when she heard his voice. She felt like his voice signaled trouble or something worse, and she didn't like it. She let out a sigh and started walking reluctantly towards them. "Is it really that much of a surprise?" As she approached the two boys, she glanced at Ben and got a better look at the girl.
"You really surprised me, Y/N. I didn't think you'd-"
At that moment, the girl in Ben's arms gasped in surprise, revealing a small bit of her broken tooth. "It's you!" she exclaimed, pointing in the girl's direction almost accusingly.
The two girls watching the scene were a bit puzzled. Y/N wondered if Lily was pointing at one of them, feeling confused. Ashlyn's expression mirrored Y/N's confusion as her eyebrows raised, but she remained silent. Y/N needed confirmation and pointed to herself to ask, "Me?" she said out loud.
"Aiden's the one who-" Lily's got cut off when Aiden quickly covered her mouth to stop her from saying more, while Ben looked surprised at his reaction, glancing at him.
Aiden whispered to Lily to be quiet and then turned to Y/N with a nervous laugh and smile. He said, "Don't worry about Lily, she's just being silly."
Lily was attempting to push Aiden's hand away as she tried to protest. She made small groans as she struggled to prevent his hand from covering her mouth, while Aiden tried to silence her.
Aiden's current behavior was unusual and not something she saw every day. It was clear that he was hiding something, which wasn't surprising to her, but it was still strange to witness. However, she didn't see why Aiden's personal life had to involve her. Knowing Aiden, it was probably something trivial, so she wasn't interested in finding out more.
"Oh... okay?" Y/N gave her a skeptical look. "What is even happening?"
Ben, who was caught in the middle of a playful tussle and slight argument between Aiden and Lily, decided to intervene to calm the situation. He gently placed his hand on his little sister's head to soothe her, reminding her of his presence. His touch stopped the argument, with Lily giving Aiden a small pout while holding onto her brother's shirt. Aiden eventually stopped too, brushing off the situation with his usual smile. Ben was relieved that they had calmed down.
Ashlyn observed the interaction between the Clarks with a calm expression, wondering if this was a common occurrence for them. She sighed as she tried to understand the purpose behind it, but she wasn't sure if she should intervene since it wasn't her business. Y/N was confused but impressed by how quickly Ben resolved the situation. She thought it was sweet how Ben's friendly nature helped avoid a potential disaster. His affectionate way of calming the situation was heartwarming.
After everything was settled, Y/N turned to Lily with a faint smile and said, "So, your name is Lily, it's a very nice name." This caught the little girl's attention. "Happy birthday."
Lily stopped for a moment, a slight smile of happiness appearing on her face. "Thank you," she said softly, with a sweet smile. Her long brown hair fell over her shoulder, complementing her features.
Y/N was taken aback by the adorable smile of the little girl. She felt a tightness in her chest and thought to herself, "Aw, she's... so cute." She couldn't help but admire the girl's cuteness, noting how quickly kids grow up while still maintaining their adorable charm.
While the group was chatting, Ashlyn briefly went to the kitchen, leaving the others. Y/N felt unsure about what to say to Ben, who couldn't talk, and also didn't know how to start a conversation with Lily. Y/N was typically introverted and quiet, so being in a social setting like this made her feel awkward and out of place.
Aiden was chatting with his cousin, Ben, who was standing there quietly listening. Their bond seemed unbreakable as Ben placed his hand on Aiden's head while he spoke. Y/N turned her head, hoping for a reason to leave, but no words came to her. She just stood there and let out a quiet sigh. This lifestyle wasn't for her - constantly being out, hiding from phantoms, running from them, having close calls, and always playing it safe. All she truly desired was a completely normal life.
As Ashlyn approached, Y/N's attention shifted back to Ben and Aiden. She found herself particularly drawn to Aiden as Ben rubbed his head. There was no specific reason for her interest, just a result of boredom. Aiden caught her staring and smirked. Y/N seemed a bit spaced out and tired at first, but she quickly refocused, anticipating Aiden's inevitable comment about her gaze. She then lowered her gaze slightly.
"Earth to Y/N," he said, waving his hand in front of her face, but she swatted it away. She gave him a blank look before turning to Ashlyn, who had arrived with a bowl of candy.
Y/N watched as Lily reached for candy and saw the brown-haired girl put a lollipop in her mouth. Aiden tried to grab a piece from the bowl Ashlyn was holding, but she pulled it away and pushed his hand, making him flinch in surprise.
At that moment, Ashlyn's mom joined the circle with a smile and stood between Ben and Aiden, with Ben on her left and Aiden on her right. Y/N stood next to Aiden, with Ashlyn beside her. Emma turned to Y/N and said with a smile, "Y/N, what a surprise! Sorry, I didn't see you come in. Where's your dad?" She asked with a curious expression, her hand on her lower hip.
"He is just taking care of some things at home and should be here soon. I hope you don't mind if my grandparents and an extra guest come along."
"I don't mind at all, but I'm glad you're here. Ashlyn mentioned that she didn't think you could make it," Emma said with a slight smile, looking at Ashlyn who met her gaze but then quickly glanced down at her phone.
"Yeah... I did," Y/N lowered her head slightly and gazed down, appearing to be deep in thought but unable to come up with anything.
Ashlyn's mom nodded in understanding and hummed, "I see." When Emma noticed the girl's mood, she reached out and took a candy from the bowl Ashlyn was holding out. This caught the girl's attention and made her lift her head slightly. "Hey, you should relax, you seem tense. So please enjoy yourself," she said with a smile as she handed the girl a lollipop and then walked away. "Hope you have fun," she added.
Y/N looked at the lollipop she had just received from Ashlyn's mom. The present she had set aside earlier was now tucked under her arm as she gazed at the candy, feeling puzzled. She blinked, trying to understand her actions. Even though she wasn't in the mood for sweets, she decided to make an exception this time. Eventually, she sighed, raised her head, and turned only to see the others staring at her. She looked from side to side and confirmed that they were indeed looking at her. "What?"
Emma approached Mike as he started whispering something to her. "I don't think we'll have enough room in the house to seat everyone, so let's go ahead and move to the graveyard." he suggested. Emma agreed with a nod.
"Ashlyn, do you think you could wait here for the twins and other guests? When they arrive, please bring them to the graveyard," Emma asked.
"Yeah." Ashlyn replied casually to her mother's request.
Afterwards, everyone in the house left to go to the graveyard. Aiden and Ben were beside her, with Lily accompanying them and Ben holding her in his arms. The gift Y/N had been holding earlier was now securely held in her hands as she walked alongside them.
"I've been wanting to tell you that you have been sending me a lot of spam." Y/N whispered softly in the blond's ear as she moved closer to him. She sighed quietly and asked, "Why is that? I want a good reason for it."
As she whispered softly in his ear, his red eyes turned towards her. "I was just worried," Aiden said with a slight smirk and an innocent smile, his eyes closed. "Did you not see my messages?"
"Yes, I saw them, but did you have to send so many?" she asked in response to his concern.
"Well... You weren't responding."
Y/N gave him an annoyed look, her brow furrowing at his illogical response. She could see his concern, but was he really that worried about something that happened a week ago, or was it something else. "That's your reason?"
"Is it good enough?"
"Aiden... You see me every day." Y/N let out a heavy sigh, feeling the urge to explain a better reason to him but decided not to waste her time. She knew he would probably question her too much about something he should already acknowledge. She moved away a bit when she saw the graveyard ahead and warned, "If you keep it up, you will not hear from me again."
What she meant was that he would be blocked. However, Y/N had other concerns weighing on her tonight.
While everyone else went to the graveyard, Ashlyn was asked to stay behind. She sat on the couch, looking at her phone and considering whether to call or text the twins who hadn't shown up yet. She leaned back, with her feet resting on the small table in the middle of the room, waiting for the final guests to arrive. Her green eyes roamed around the room as she thought about Y/N's unexpected appearance. She was happy that they were all together as a group, as this event would help distract them from the dangers they were about to face later that night.
Just as she was about to drift off in thought, the doorbell interrupted her, prompting her to stand up and break her train of thought. When she reached the door and opened it, she was met with a face she didn't recognize.
"Who are you?
_____
Y/N was initially thinking of wearing a casual summer dress to the outdoor event. However, she changed her mind at the last minute because she didn't want to bother with changing it later in the day.

I feel like this book in general makes no sense.
I had planned to do two chapters, but it took me a long time to finish just one. I appreciate your patience. Thank you for waiting. This week, I've been busy with school and working on this book. Don't worry, I take breaks too. I also want to apologize for accidentally publishing my chapters before they're ready. I see your comments and I understand. I can be clumsy sometimes.
