I yawned to myself as I sat up, cracking my neck and rubbing my eyes. I looked over to where Sophie was knelt on the ground, still charging and still in the maid outfit.
I got out of bed, wincing as I realized I was quite sore, especially in the back area. I grabbed some ibuprofen from the table, taking one to help alleviate the pain from my injuries.
I then grabbed myself some simple cereal, putting in the cereal and then the milk as I thought about last night. I'll either wait for Mother Wasp to send me another note or try going back to that address in a week.
But I have a feeling it'll be the former, with how I got the note for last night's job.
I grabbed the remote, sitting down with bowl of cereal. I turned on the small television in my apartment, going to the station I usually listened to. It's called Super Live, its a news station that is constantly giving updates, however big or small, about heroes and villains. It's useful for keeping up to date.
"-last night's attack on Killian Stromford's penthouse left zero casualties, as no one was there at the time." The reporter stated. "Authorities have yet to find any suspects for the case."
"With the Stromford North Facility bombing and now this assault on the CEO's residence, there is without a doubt someone with a vendetta against the company." The reporter continued. "Some believe this is the emergence of another new supervillain. The Hero Administration have yet to comment."
"In other news, the Hero of Hope, Stellar, went in a brawl with a new villain known as Wreckerball and successfully arrested the villain." The reporter explained. "And the Ice-Cold Hero, Frostbolt, successfully stopped another fire. The recent trend in fires over the past months have made some to believe that someone is intentionally starting them."
"Those are all of the major incidents so far today." The reporter nodded. "But in exciting news, the Mayor has announced the building of a statue in honor of The Rallying Hero, Miracle, in the middle of Champion Park."
"It has been almost a year since Miracle's disappearance." The reporter stated. "In that time, no progress has been made on his whereabouts. However, the effect of his disappearance is evident."
"Our heroes are working harder than ever, having taking down numerous villains." The reporter continued. "Let alone five major ones in the time since he's been gone. We all miss him, and pray that one day the truth may be shed on what happened to one of Champion City's greatest heroes."
"Master." I heard Sophie say from behind me.
I turned off the television, turning towards her. "Hey, you're awake." I smiled. "How are you feeling?"
"I am fine, Master." Sophie replied. "You are the injured one."
"Just a scratch." I chuckled.
"I do not believe imbedded glass shards count as scratches, Master." Sophie stated.
"You get the point." I replied. I stood back up, slowly stretching without hurting too much. "What time is it?"
"2:30." Sophie answered.
Damn, I slept in a little bit.
"Right, I should probably go see about this job from Davon." I stated.
"I shall come with, Master." Sophie added.
"I know. You never let me go anywhere alone." I smirked. "This must be what marriage feels like."
"We are married?" Sophie tilted her head.
"Just a joke." I replied. "You gotta work on your humor. Anyways, let's head out."
I reached for the doorknob, before pausing and turning around. "Hold on, you need to change out of that maid outfit first."
Sophie nodded, grabbing at the maid dress and starting to pull it over her head.
"Hey, I told you changing happens in the bathroom." I lightly pushed her in the direction of the bathroom. "Robot or not, those are the rules in this household."
She entered the bathroom, and less than a minute later appeared in a long sleeved black shirt with the picture of a giant skull covering half of it and some simple jeans.
"You have an interesting pick in clothes." I commented as I opened the door and we walked out of my apartment.
"Is it no good, Master?" Sophie asked.
"No, you look very cute." I replied. "Just not what I would've expected."
"I see." Sophie nodded. "Then I shall continue wearing them, Master."
"Whatever makes you happiest." I stated.
We walked all the way to Waverson Hotel, where I went through the same process of giving the secret code, then entering the elevator and pressing the button to floor 13. However, I had Sophie in tow for the first time.
The elevators door opened, revealing Club Champion. I walked over to where Davon always sat, sitting across from him as Sophie followed.
"Took you long enough, kid." He stated.
"It's not even three." I pointed out.
"Eh." He shrugged. "You want a drink?"
He pointed out a few different bottles on the side of the table next to the wall. There were also some empty glass cups to pour.
"Not after last night. Got water?" I asked.
"It's the one closest to you." Davon pointed.
"You know me too well." I smirked, pouring myself a cup of water.
"Yeah, yeah." Davon poured himself a drink of alcohol. "Whose the girl? Your sister?"
"No." Sophie stated.
"This is my precious partner in crime." I smirked, wrapping an arm around Sophie.
"Never thought I'd see the day you get hitched." Davon chuckled.
"Well, it's not like that." I replied. "Not looking for romance right now."
The sudden sound of glass shattering caused us to quickly look over at Sophie. Sophie opened her hand, shattered glass pieces falling onto the table. She stared at it for a moment, before looking back at us.
"I apologize." Sophie spoke. "I was examining the cup and used too much force. They are more fragile than I expected."
Davon glanced at her hand, seeing it was perfectly fine, before then glancing at me. I just gave him a shrug in response. Examining the glasses to make sure nothing is off about them? Thanks Sophie, you're the best. Just try not to break any more.
"It's fine." Davon shrugged. "Not my glass. Anyways, ready to hear about the job?"
"Yeah. Lay it on me." I nodded.
"The villain known as Shadow Raven sent out the request." Davon stated. "I'm warning you know, this is a public hit. You may not be the only one after Trevor Finkins."
"I understand the whole hitman power struggle." I replied. "The money from the job is just a bonus. Speaking of which, why does Shadow Raven want this Trevor dead?"
"He apparently scammed Shadow Raven on a deal." Davon replied.
"Idiot." I facepalmed. "Don't cross a supervillain so blatantly like that. What information can you give me on Trevor?"
Davon raised an eyebrow.
I pulled out a wad of cash, tossing it at him. He caught it, flipped through, then stashed it and grinned.
"He's hired a bodyguard." Davon stated. "Apparently superpowered. No one has seen what yet cause no one has tried killing Trevor yet. He's currently hiding out Wicky's. I say hiding, but it's more partying."
"Wicky's, huh?" I stated. "That's fairly near Champion City's Hero Administration skyscraper. He's banking on that to repel everyone away."
"Bingo." Davon nodded. "He apparently even has a special room there so he can stay a while. Only other info I have is that I've heard of three others planning on going after Trevor. And there will be more."
"How many of them got your info?" I asked.
"None." He stated. "Yet. So far you're the first, though I expect that to change fairly soon."
"Right." I nodded, standing up. "And can I see a photo of Trevor?"
Davon nodded. He pulled out his phone, did a little scrolling, then found a picture taken of the man. He was a plump guy with combed to the side brown hair and a bushy brown mustache.
"Time to head to Wicky's then. See you later." I winked.
"You're seriously going right away?" Davon raised an eyebrow.
"Wicky's is easy to get into. Besides, I already have a plan forming in my mind." I grinned. "Quicker I find Trevor, more likely I can get something out of him."
"Fair enough." Davon shrugged.
I exited the booth, Sophie following as we walked out of Club Champion and into the elevator to send us back down and out of Waverson Hotel.
"What is the plan, Master?" Sophie asked.
"We head straight to Wicky's. If this guy is such a party lover, then I might be able to challenge him to drinking contest." I stated. "Hopefully get him to lower his guard and spill something."
"What about me, Master?" Sophie wondered.
"Stay on standby. I may need you to distract the bodyguard, fight him, or whatever else." I replied. "And if my plan doesn't work, we resort to the second plan. Threatening."
We exited the elevator, walking out of the hotel and heading towards the location of Wicky's, a popular party bar.
"Do you have the ID I got made for you?" I whispered.
"Yes, Master." Sophie nodded.
"Perfect." I grinned. "Take this ski mask in case anything goes wrong."
I pulled one out of my pockets, handing it to Sophie. She stashed it in her own pockets. Something I have learned in my time as a henchman is to always have a ski mask prepared!
Of course, I also have my pistol hidden on me too. I don't leave the house without it much.
After a little bit of walking we arrived to the outside of Wicky's. After paying and showing the bouncer our fake ID cards, we were allowed entry.
We entered the bar, filled to the brim with people partying, drinking, and dancing under the colored lights. Usually there isn't this many people at this time, but I have a feeling this Trevor's presence has something to do with that.
"You see that scary guy over there?" I whispered.
In the distance, standing proud and tall was a large man in a suit. He had a scruffy beard, a buzz cut on the top of his head, and striking yellow eyes.
"I bet that's the bodyguard." I stated.
We walked closer, pushing through the various people around. And there, sitting at a table with a bunch of others was my target, Trevor Finkins.
"Once I get Trevor's attention, get everyone else's through a distraction." I whispered.
Sophie nodded.
I walked over to the table, slamming my hand onto it and making all of the people turn towards me with narrowed eyes.
"You look like a fun bunch." I grinned. "I'm looking to challenge someone to a drinking contest. Any takers?"
"Get lost, kid." Huffed one of the men.
"How about this?" I said, pulling out my second and final wad of cash. "All you have to do is out drink me, and this is all yours."
"Here, I'll put it right in the middle of the table." I said, placing it down. "So you know I'm not joking.
"All right then." Someone stated. I turned, smiling at the one who spoke.
Perfect. He took the bait.
"Nice to meet you." I smirked. "You choose."
"You'll regret that." Trevor chuckled. "No one has beaten me, ever."
I'm banking on the fact that you've already been drinking for who knows how long.
He grabbed a bottle, pouring both of us a drink. He slid the glass over to me. We looked at each other, before both taking a drink.
"Shit, that's strong." I laughed. "Hit me again."
We both took another shot. Then another. Then another. And then another.
"You're stronger than I thought." Trevor stated.
"You as well." I smirked.
"Holy shit! Some girl is beating Mr. Rick at arm wrestling!" One of the table people gasped.
The quickly got up, moving to watch what I could only assume was Sophie and her distraction. "Again." I said before Trevor could get distracted.
He nodded, and we both took another drink.
"This is some of strongest stuff I got." Trevor hiccuped. "You hold it well."
"You know how it is being the life of the party." I laughed.
"Yes, indeed." Trevor chuckled with me. "I like to party after a stressful day."
"What do you do?" I asked as we took another shot.
"Businessman." He stated. "Boring job, always making deals."
"I sorta understand. I do freelance." I replied. "So you have a lot of connections."
"So many. I'm one of the best there is." He grinned.
"Cool." I replied. "Do you know about someone named Vincent Vandercourt?"
He didn't respond. I glanced over, seeing that he had instantly sobered up, his sitting rigid and his eyes trained on me in absolute fear.
He opened his mouth, only for to quickly grab it with one hand, and with the other I quickly pulled out my gun and pointed it to his side. I got close to him, hopefully hiding the gun from view.
"If you scream, I will shoot." I whispered. "You're wanted by Shadow Raven, you know? There's at least three others who are coming here to kill you."
"But me?" I continued quietly. "All I want is information. You give me it, and I'll let you go. So you will answer my questions or this will be your final day. Do you understand?"
He nervously nodded.
"Now tell me what you know about him." I ordered, moving my hand off of his mouth.
"I-I can't." He whimpered.
"Why not?" I replied, making sure he felt the gun digging into his side. "You don't and you die here. Don't test me. It only takes two seconds for me to turn you into a bloody, leaky faucet of a human."
"H-He'll do worse if I say anything." Trevor quietly spoke. "Getting on his bad side is worse than death. Much, much worse."
"One last chance, buddy." I warned.
"Stop searching for him. For your own good." Trevor whispered. And then, with his hand on the other side of his body he suddenly pointed his own pistol to my forehead.
In an instant I pulled the trigger and ducked. He immediately gasped loudly in pain, his aim getting thrown off as he shot a bullet into the ceiling.
I grabbed him, throwing him over my shoulder and slamming him onto the table. He groaned in pain as drinks spilled, creating loud sounds of glass shattering for anyone who didn't hear the two gunshots earlier.
Things were silent for a moment, and then everyone panicked.
Turning straight towards me was the bodyguard, who was previously watching Sophie go against someone else in an arm wrestle. He glared at me and started taking steps forward.
And then the doors slammed open as the bouncer flew through them, three men in identical red suits walking in.
Oh for the love of-
