After that strange incident a whole week passed without hearing a single thing. Sophie seemed to calm down from the encounter with Mother Wasp, and we returned to our daily schedule of coffee-sipping and tv-watching.
Until on that day a full week later when a knock resounded on the door. Sophie stared at the door as I stood up and walked over, peeking through the eyehole to see that it was, in fact, the boss.
I opened the door with an uneasy grin. "Hey, come on in."
"Why thank you, dearie." Mother Wasp smiled, walking into the room. She seemed unbothered about Sophie's intense gaze. "I do hope your wounds have healed up nicely?"
"Yes, they have." I nodded.
"Perfect. Because it's time to finally make my official debut." Mother Wasp grinned. "All the preparations have been set, and you, my little worker wasp, get the honor of accompanying me."
"I...do?" I asked, worried about getting involved with a straight up villain debut. Especially considering that Mother Wasp has been prepping for this, I highly doubt she's a simple villain of the week.
"Why, yes." Mother Wasp smirked. "Have you heard of the annual Masquerade Ball? It's an event for those of the highest cache..."
She got close, slowly trailing one of her fingers down my arm. I felt myself involuntarily shiver from the light feeling.
"...and this year it is being held by Stromford Industries." She continued. "And even better, Mr. Killian Stromford will be there himself."
"What do you need me to do?" I asked.
"Isn't is obvious?" She smirked once more, leaning in close. "I need you to be my date."
"What?" I raised an eyebrow.
No, seriously, what is going on?
Times like these I wish you could pause real life.
"We're infiltrating the ball dear, keep up." She playfully smiled. "Or you could refuse my job. But that means you'd lose out on quite the amount of money..."
She leaned in, blowing into my ear. "...and another reward~"
She leaned back with a smirk as Sophie was now standing next to me, her arms wrapped around one of mine as she stared at Mother Wasp.
"Your little friend here would have to stay behind, however." Mother Wasp stated. "It's invite only, and I pulled quite the strings to get me and my 'partner' able to infiltrate."
This, this could be dangerous.
"I do not recommend taking the job, Master." Sophie stated, staring at Mother Wasp as she kept the protective grip around my arm.
"Don't get in the way, robot." Mother Wasp replied. "I only tolerate you because you're useful to my favorite henchman."
Sparks flew between the two of them as they stared at each other.
"Can I ask a few questions, boss?" I requested.
"Go ahead." Mother Wasp smiled.
"Respectfully, how much are we talking?" I asked. "I trust it's a good sum, but I'd still prefer to know around how much."
"Triple the amount of the Stromford North Facility job." Mother Wasp stated.
You're kidding. You're actually kidding.
She has to be tricking me. That much?! I'll be set for a good half of a year at least!
"Okay. One other question." I nodded. "Can we bring my partner here as backup? She could be on a nearby roof, and if things somehow go south, she could greatly help us."
Mother Wasp looked at Sophie.
"As long as she only comes if you call for her." Mother Wasp agreed. "And I trust you will only do that if things don't go according to plan."
"Then I accept." I nodded. "Thank you, boss."
"Good." Mother Wasp hummed. "Then let me go over the plan. We will infiltrate the party as guests. Specifically Richard and Millie Hittand, a rich but secluded married couple. They don't actually exist, but they don't know that."
"We'll wait until Killian Stromford is in the party to start." She stated. "You see, back when you did the distraction at the Stromford Facility, I stole some valuable information. I'll be putting it on display for everyone to see."
"And here is where you come in, my precious worker wasp." Mother Wasp continued. "I need you to keep an eye on Killian and inform me of anything important he does."
Mother Wasp pulled out a small earpiece, throwing it to me. I caught it in my hand, looking at it.
"It'll hide quite well in the ear." She stated. "Anything you need to report, start the sentence with the word honey and the earpiece will activate. I shall do the same."
"And that's everything?" I asked.
"Yes." She stated. "If all goes well, the public learns of his sins before I publicly execute him. Then we will escape."
This could be a very difficult job. If there's any high profile people there that...
But I've already accepted. And that money amount is incredible if she truly isn't lying. If this succeeds, I can keep him alive for over a whole half a year and pay for my own expenses in that time.
"I understand the plan." I nodded.
"Perfect. Now wait here just a second." She stated.
What do you mean wait here?
This is my apartment!
She walked back in a few seconds later, holding a bag in her hands. She handed it to me. I opened it, looking inside see a suit.
"This is your attire." She stated. "We'll meet at 27 Kyler Street at 7:00. We'll change into our attire there and then leave to arrive at the party around 8:00, when it starts."
"Don't be late~" She smirked as she turned and exited the apartment, this time for good.
"This is dangerous, Master." Sophie stated as soon as she was gone.
"I don't disagree." I replied. "Never thought I'd get involved with a villain debut. But that amount of money is too good to pass on."
"What if she is tricking you?" Sophie wondered.
"Then she'll get the end of my barrel." I crossed my arms. "But I don't think it'll come to that."
I turned to Sophie, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'll be counting on you to have my back. Are you alright with that?"
"I would rather not be backup, and instead in the party." Sophie stated. "I have your back, Master. Always."
"Thank you Sophie." I smiled. "And trust me, if it was up to me I'd have you with me at the party in a heartbeat."
"I understand." She nodded. The grip around my arm slightly tightened. Speaking of, she still holding onto me.
"Think you can connect yourself to this?" I asked, handing her the earpiece. She let go of me as she held it in her hands.
"Yes." She nodded.
"Good." I smirked. "Then you'll immediately know if I need help. Now just for a few more preparations..."
After a few hours later, I found myself entering 27 Kyler Street once more. Todd opened the door for me once again, before leading me to a bathroom that I could change in.
I looked at myself in the mirror, examining myself in the suit. Damn, do I look good. I shot myself some finger guns with a grin.
It was a black tuxedo with a white undershirt and a crimson red tie. It was simple, but it was also damn clean. I also combed my blonde hair to the side, giving it a more formal look than usual. It's been a while since I've been in a suit and looked so formal.
And now for the final piece. Included in the bag that Mother Wasp gave me was a masquerade mask. It was a simple red and black checkered design which fit over my eyes, matching well with their red gaze.
This is all a little restricting compared to the loose clothes I usually wear, but actually quite comfortable. The clothing size is somehow perfect.
Okay, earpiece in. Check. Hidden gun? Check. Hidden switchblade? Check. Looking absolutely fabulous? Check.
We're good to go.
I exited the bathroom, waiting at the table I sat at the last time I was here. I waited there for a little while until finally the sound of heels clicking sounded as someone descended the stairs.
Mother Wasp appeared into view, and-
Holy shit.
Her curly, blond hair was styled so that it covered her eyepatch eye and flowed completely on that side. Instead of her usually outfit she was wearing a stunningly beautiful red dress which showed off some cleavage and her long legs which were adorned with bright red heels. She wore a similarly red lipstick and some mascara that made her eyelashes darker and longer.
"Are you speechless?" Mother Wasp giggled. "Get used to it, my little worker wasp. Or I suppose I should say my husband~"
She interlocked her arms around mine, pressing herself against me. She led me outside of the building, where now there was a freaking limousine parked.
As we stepped in I could feel a strong gaze on my back. We sat down, the driver starting the limousine up and driving.
"Remember everything, Richard?" Mother Wasp smirked.
"Yes...Millie." I replied. "Or should I say Mrs. Hittand, the love of my life."
"Oh, what a flatterer you are." Mother Wasp giggled.
We rode to the party, Mother Wasp still hanging onto my arm for the whole ride there. We finally arrived outside of the building, where we got outside of the limousine.
Multiple other rich people in fancy clothing were arriving and walking into the building as well. We walked up to the bodyguards at the door, where Mother Wasp stated our fake identities and showed a fake id for 'Millie Hittand'.
We followed everyone else, entering a large ball room with gorgeous golden and black decorations. The room was slowly filling up with people as they talked and elegantly danced.
"Care to dance?" Mother Wasp smiled at me, holding out her hand. I grabbed her hand as we walked out onto the floor and started to dance the waltz.
"Who knew you could dance?" Smirked Mother Wasp. "Since when did you learn the waltz, my dear husband?"
"I have quite the few tricks under my sleeve." I grinned back. "You don't even know the half of it, my lovely wife."
"Well, I would love to learn more about it." Mother Wasp purred, leaning closer as we danced. "I'm sure you can teach me all sorts of tricks."
"Are you sure you could handle them?" I smirked.
"I'm sure I could." Mother Wasp whispered.
We stopped as the music changed, giving each other a short bow and courtesy. Mother Wasp leaned in, whispering into my ear.
"You know your job." She stated. "Remember the earpiece's code word. Good luck."
"To you as well." I nodded.
Mother Wasp smiled, before approaching a group of women and talking to them. I scanned the room, though I was pretty sure that Killian Stromford had yet to appear.
Are you serious, is that the leader of the Cromwell Mafia? Oh, great. Of course he'd be here. I don't think he'd recognize me, but let's just avoid him just in case.
In the meantime, let's play the part of an esteemed guest as I wait for Killian to show his pretty little face up.
I started dancing with various people, making sure to keep an eye out for Killian or anything else worth reporting.
And so far I couldn't see anything.
A finished dancing with a woman, giving her a bow as she curtsied back. She smiled as she walked away and I started to scan the room once again.
And then I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I turned around, eyes immediately widening as I recognized the person behind me. I had only met her once, but of course I would recognize her after what happened last time.
She was wearing a long, fancy black dress with black heels, black gloves, and a simple black choker. Her hair was that unmistakable half white and half black, and her stormy gray eyes could be seen through the masquerade mask she wore this time. One which was an extravagant black with a black feather attached.
Bloodwraith smirked at me, holding out her hand. "May I have this dance?"
