"Hey there Alexis, how'd you find that name...?" I awkwardly chuckled.
"I've been doing a little bit of searching, you know." She smiled at me. "Is Jason your real name? Or is it Will? What do I call you, dear?"
"Not dear, that's for sure!" I struggled once again, trying to kick at Alexis. However she stood right outside my reach, simply smiling with her hands behind my back. "That's a kind of animal!"
"As dense as ever..." She sighed into her hand. On it was a shining golden ring with a dazzling blue gem.
No, it was an act because you're damn scary.
Suddenly a hole was blasted through the roof of the warehouse as someone crashed through, landing down behind the men and their cars and creating cracks in the pavement.
Sophie stood up, clad in her maid outfit. She stared at the men in suits who quickly turned to start pointing their guns at her. Her arm morphed into a cannon as she pointed it at them.
"Release Master, at once." Ordered Sophie.
"...master?" Alexis questioned. "Oh, you got a servant! How wonderful! Please stand back, this is inbetween your master and I."
"I will not let you hurt Master." Sophie rebutted.
"Look..." Alexis sighed, before glaring at Sophie with a cold gaze. "...I'd be happy to talk with you later over tea. But back off. This is in-between wife and husband."
"Wife...?" Sophie questioned, her eyes darting to me.
"You're not my wife!" I argued. "There was no wedding!"
"Oh yes, because someone died." Alexis looked back at me. "But now you're alive! We can proceed with the wedding."
"Master...you had a fiancé?" Sophie looked towards us, a dangerous aura forming around her.
"Not exactly-" I nervously tried to calm her down, only to get cut off.
"Tut tut, don't lie." Alexis wagged her finger. "Lying to your servants sows seeds of distrust, honey. And besides, you're the one who proposed."
"Master...proposed?" Sophie took a step forwards, her heterochromia eyes empty, like an infinite void you could drown in.
"Please don't take any more steps forward." Alexis crossed her arms. "Or my men will be forced to fire. And I'd rather not kill my honey's servant."
Sophie took another step forwards, as if in defiance.
Before Alexis could even say anything the men fired their guns, spraying Sophie will bullets. They ripped through her maid outfit, leaving numerous holes. But instead of seeing a bunch of blood like expected, each and every bullet bounced off of her harmlessly.
"Well shit." Alexis raised her eyebrows in surprise.
Sophie blasted forwards, shooting her sonic cannon and sending a couple of the men flying. She picked one of the cars up, using it to smack more of the men and send them flying as well.
She then chucked the car into the wall, completely destroying it.
"You have quite the impressive servant, honey." Alexis nodded.
Sophie's other arm morphed into her laser, which she then pointed at Alexis.
"Let go of Master." Sophie demanded.
"Alright, alright." Alexis put her hands up with a smile, to my surprise. From what I remembered, she was never the type to back down from a confrontation.
I felt myself get lowered as the hand started to bring me back down. As I reached the ground Alexis leaned over, kissing me on the cheek as my feet hit the ground. She then slapped my back as I walked over to Sophie and stood next to the robot.
Sophie continued to stare at Alexis as the mobster stared back with a smile and her arms once more crossed behind her back.
"I look forward to our wedding, honey." She grinned, walking past us as and towards the cars. "And this time I hope you don't die before it, Will-shit. Jason. Damn it."
She muttered angrily to herself, stomping her foot on the ground before turning back towards us with another bright smile. "That never happened."
"All right, get yourselves up!" She turned back around and ordered her men. "We're leaving! I got what I wanted...for now."
I don't like many things about that sentence.
"You kissed him." Sophie finally stated, long after the fact of the occurrence.
"Yes. I did." Alexis replied as her men started to stand to their feet and get into the two remaining cars. "I don't know why you're freaking out, it's not the first time."
"...what?" Sophie's dangerous aura still hasn't left.
"Toodle-loo~!" She grinned, getting into the car. They came to life, driving out of a large open door in the back of the warehouse.
"Well, all's well that ends well-!" I nervously chuckled.
"You are answering for your crimes." I heard Sophie state from behind me.
I'm dead.
I was suddenly hoisted over her shoulder as we blasted out of the warehouse through the hole in the ceiling, flying back towards Mother Wasp's house.
Dear readers, if I dare say, I am royally fucked. Please pay me your respects.
It didn't take long until we got back to the apartment, luckily without running into any nightly patrolling heroes. I was promptly shoved onto the couch as Sophie and Mother Wasp stared at me, their arms crossed with a frightening aura.
"So..." I gulped. "...penny for your thoughts?"
"Explain. Now." Sophie ordered.
"Why the hell is Alexis Cromwell calling herself your wife?" Mother Wasp demanded. "You'll tell mama, won't you?"
Please never call yourself mama again.
"Okay, hold on..." I sighed. "I used to work for the Cromwell Mafia Family..."
And thus, I started to explain.
It had only been a month since I started my criminal journey, and two months since my first memory. My first boss was too cheap for the danger, and my second boss died within a week to my own hands.
I was desperate. I was low on money, the month was coming to an end, and if I didn't act soon Gabriel was going to be let go.
I knew that joining the Mafia was life-changing thing. They don't take too kindly to deserters. But at the same time, their income was much more steady and reliable than other forms of crime, and they had a renowned reputation.
So I took the risk after some research. I joined the Mafia, and quickly sought out to prove myself. I did my best in every job I was assigned, becoming a stand out amongst the newest members.
I guess I caught someone's attention, as I slowly started to climb the ladder in the organization. Later I was told that I was one of the quickest to do so, considering it was only a few months.
With the increasing payments I was able to properly keep Gabriel sustained, though I didn't live on much myself.
After four months I was approached by one of the highest ranking people in the mafia. The sole daughter of the Don himself. The head honcho's sole successor.
Alexis Cromwell.
She had quite the reputation. Cunning, vicious, and someone you didn't cross. But she was also highly respectable, polite, and trustworthy when treated the same.
Some people called her two faced. Others called her intelligent. I just called her boss.
Cause she invited me to become part of her personal guard. It was a promotion I couldn't refuse. More money was always a plus, and I also didn't want to get on her bad side. Didn't want to even chance becoming a missing person.
I may not care about what happens to me, but I certainly care about what happens to Gabriel.
So obviously, I accepted. And I became one of her special group. I got the tattoo on my back after that, a small, hidden symbol that only higher ups were given.
And I wasn't exactly sure how it happened, but Alexis started to talk more with me. She took some liking to me. I became one of her closest and most trusted men.
I learned a decent bit about her as well. She was a little odd, but was undeniably smart. She was everything that the rumors said and more.
And this is when things started to get weird. It had been a month and a half of working for her when I was given a special job. To go and receive a special ring from a man who had stolen it from the Cromwell's.
It was odd, I never got solo missions. But I listened to my orders. I snuck in only to be confronted by the guy. Had a short scuffle, did an interrogation, then snapped his neck. Wasn't pretty.
Anyways, I found the special ring. It was a shining golden ring with a dazzling blue gem. Quite pretty and seemed quite expensive.
So I properly brought it back to Alexis. Who then proceeded to tell me to place said ring on her fourth finger of the left hand. To be fair, I did not know that was supposed to signify engagement at the time. That wasn't exactly something I was worried about.
So when shortly after I had dinner with both Alexis and her father, to say I was flabbergasted was an understatement. Apparently that dinner was to decide my fate, and he decided I was worthy or something? I don't really know.
Honestly I was dying inside and was giving him honeyed words on the outside so I wouldn't get murdered in my sleep. It worked too well.
They set a wedding date a few months from then. I had accepted my fate. Honestly, while I was freaked out, it was good for me. As long as I continued to play my part I'd get enough money to support Gabriel for as long as he needed.
No, that situation wasn't the problem. The problem was that a target was put on my back. It didn't take long for it to become public knowledge that the Don's daughter was engaged.
Someone leaked my name, and enemies of the family went after Gabriel.
"Gabriel?" Mother Wasp questioned.
"He's my...brother." I stated. "He's been stuck in a coma for three years."
"What?" Mother Wasp gasped. "And you...didn't tell me?"
"Sorry..." I replied. "...I didn't trust you for a while. And then I just never got around to it."
"I...I understand." Mother Wasp grumpily muttered.
This...this was the job that went wrong.
"Damn it damn it damn it!" I dashed through the hospital's hallway.
"You never told me you had a brother!" Alexis called out from behind me.
"Not the time!" I yelled back. "I'll explain later!"
In the distance the door drew near, a man in a suit standing outside of it. He turned towards us, eyes widening as he reached for his earpiece.
A bullet rang out, the pistol in Alexis' hand smoking as the man fell. I bust through the door to a room full of men in suits, one of them with his gun pointed towards the laying form of my brother, finger over the trigger.
About to pull.
Time slowed down. Everything became muted. Everything except for that damn voice in my head.
"He's going to die because of me."
"It'll be my fault."
"Another one dead because of my failures."
"You can't save him."
"Let me."
"Give me control..."
I...I had always ignored it.
I wish I had continued to.
My vision went dark. And a second later, it returned. Alexis' face was what I was met with, tears streaming down her eyes. I was on top of her, her struggling to stop the knife that I was trying to implant into her skull. It was stabbed straight through her hand, only being stopped from plunging into her skull by the translucent hand which supported her wrist.
I quickly jumped off of her, staring in horror at the bloody knife. And then, I looked around the room. Every single one of them was dead. Mutilated. Some were stabbed into the wall. Others were in pieces. The white room was bathed in crimson red.
"Will..." Alexis weakly spoke, staring at me.
I freaked out. I stashed the knife, grabbing Gabriel and running away. I heard Alexis scream my fake name in the distance, but I could barely register it.
I came to my bearings shortly after in the hallways. I had just attempted to murder the daughter of the Cromwell Mafia Family. I had just made my greatest enemy.
There were still men entering the hospital. I took care of them and faked my death. I switched clothes with a blond one of a similar build, and then mutilated his face so that it was unrecognizable. To my knowledge, Cromwell didn't know my DNA. They had no way of knowing. The enemies had already taken care of the cameras too.
And then I escaped with Gabriel. Shortly after I got him into another hospital after a lot of covering tracks and other safety maneuvers to make sure they wouldn't find him. I didn't go with the Underground because of the Cromwell's influence.
But then Killian recognized me, so now I had to move him to the Underground. I've covered my tracks pretty well, put him under another name, so they shouldn't find him. I'll keep a close eye just in case, however.
"And...yeah." I shrugged. "That's what happened."
I told them the full story...mostly. I left out the part of that stupid voice and instead just told them that my vision went red with rage and I went into a frenzy.
It's much easier to explain.
Always taking the easy way out.
I'm not listening, asshole. I don't know what you are but I don't want to hear it. Inner demons or not, that was not cool.
Not going to answer, huh?
That's what I thought. Fuck you.
"So that's what happened..." Mother Wasp muttered. "...which means she's a rival."
What?
"I will not give Master away to her." Sophie declared. "It does not matter what delusions she holds."
Excuse me?
"Well, doesn't matter." Mother Wasp crossed her arms. "A mother is more important than a fiancé."
You're not my mother, though.
"Knives do not affect me." Sophie stated. "Obviously I am the better option."
I think you two are focusing on the wrong thing here...
...you're all crazy.
