And it ain't fun.
"Well, kidnapped is a strong word." Alexis smirked. "I prefer retrieval of the groom."
"Forceful retrieval of the groom, you mean." I replied.
"I suppose." Alexis shrugged. "Would you like to play a game of chess when we get back to our home?"
Our?
"What makes you think you'll even get me back there?" I questioned, pointing out the back window. "We have two incredibly overpowered, superpowered, individuals after us."
"A girl can dream." She replied, before scooting closer. "We need to talk, my beloved."
"About...what?" I wondered, waiting with bated breath.
Here it is. Time for the switch. Time for her to reveal how much she hates me for betraying her and trying to kill her.
"Why? Why do you run from me, my beloved?" She clasped my hands, looking into my eyes.
"Are you...are you serious?" I looked at her in surprise.
"I am." Alexis nodded. "We had something amazing, my beloved. Was it something I did? Something I said? I can make it right, I swear."
"You didn't..." My voice trailed off as she stared at me with her intense eyes.
"I need you, Jason." She declared. "I was ready to pledge my life to you, and I still am now."
"You're insane." I replied, pushing her back. "Do you hear yourself?"
"Why are you so opposed to this?" She sadly looked at me, before a dark look overtook her face. "Is it because of her? That stupid, busty blonde?"
"Alexis, no..." I sighed.
If things were to go back to how they were, I'd be abandoning Sophie and Mother Wasp.
And...
"Then why?" Alexis pleaded. "Tell me, my beloved. I'll solve any issue you have. Money isn't a problem, so we can get your brother the best treatment. I'll also, reluctantly, protect that woman and your servant too."
"That's not the issue, Alexis." I countered.
"Then what is?!" Alexis exclaimed. "I don't understand! I just want you to be happy! I just want you to be mine! Like before!"
"We can't be like before, Alexis!" I yelled. "Because if we do, then I might try to kill you again!"
I don't want another person that I love to die because of me.
Let alone to my own hands.
Alexis stared at me, quiet, as I finally spoke my main reason. I grasped my head in my hands, groaning into them.
"I...I don't understand why you'd want someone like me..." I replied, staring at my hands. With a blink, I was looking at the bloodied hands that had tried to murder her months ago. I blinked again and the blood was gone.
"I tried to murder you, Alexis. Do you not understand?" I looked towards her. "Bringing me back only endangers you."
"He has a point, my lady." The driver spoke with a voice I hadn't heard in months. "The same point I've been trying to tell you, surprisingly enough."
"Holy shit, is that you Hanson?" I called from the back of the seat.
He quickly turned the wheel as we speedily drifted around a corner. In the background Sophie smacked Stellar into a building, before continuing her pursuit. A few seconds later Stellar tackled her, sending them two of them flying into another building. The only reason neither of them had reached us yet.
"Yes, hello. It's been a while." Hanson greeted, eyes glued onto the road.
"I don't care about that." Alexis lightly touched my masked face, turning mine to look at hers once more. "I've become stronger, Jason. If it does somehow happen again it's not a problem."
"You're insane. I tried to kill you." I emphasized once more.
"That wasn't you, Jason. We both know that." Alexis argued.
"That's where you're wrong." I looked away. "That was me."
"You don't need to lie to me, my beloved." She continued. "You acted completely like someone else. Cold, indifferent. It reminds me of how you were when we first met. Before you started cracking jokes."
"And you're only proving my point, Alexis." I replied. "I'm sorry. You weren't supposed to find out I was alive. You were supposed to move on and find someone better."
"Beloved...how could I ever find someone better than you?" Alexis cupped my face one more, leaning in towards me. "Please, come with me. Bring the others, I don't care. I just need you."
I stared into her eyes. I seriously didn't understand. I had tried to lodge a knife into her skull. One of the people she trusted most had turned on her.
And yet, she wanted me back anyways? Knowing that at any moment I could try to murder her?
Hanson made another sharp turn, pushing Alexis into me and me into the wall. Her body pressed against mine, her head in my neck. She wrapped her arms around me, squeezing me tightly.
"Oh, how I've wished to be pressed this close to you..." She murmured.
I looked down at her, a numb feeling washed over me. I wanted to take her offer. But I couldn't take that risk. Maybe this was still all a trick.
And even if it wasn't, I didn't know the next time that would happen. I hope never.
But it eats away at me every day.
You're slipping.
You are the last fucking thing I want to hear from right now. You tried to murder her, didn't you?
She was in the way.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Oh, now you're staying silent.
"Just stay with me, my beloved..." Alexis held tighter onto me, looking up into my eyes. "Please..."
"Alexis..." I sighed.
"I don't want to hear it!" She cried out. "About how you tried to kill me! That wasn't you! I know it wasn't. As soon as you slaughtered them you turned the gun towards your own brother. I know you wouldn't do that!"
"...I...what?" I paused as her words sunk in.
And then Hanson slammed on the breaks.
"We have a problem, my lady!" He grit his teeth as we quickly came to a stop. Standing in front of the car and in the middle of the road was Stellar, her hair messed up and her breath heavy.
At this rate I'm not the only one going to prison...
I pushed Alexis off of me, quickly slamming my elbow through the glass of the window next to me. I grit in pain as the window shattered and glass embedded itself into my arm.
"Jason?!" Alexis exclaimed as I crawled out of the window and onto the roof of the car.
"Wow, am I that desirable, Stellar?" I smirked. "You came all this way for me-!"
I was cut off as she flew into me, grabbing me and zooming through the air with a hold on me. She held me in the air by the front of my hoodie.
"Finally..." Stellar panted. "...finally, I've caught you, my arch-nemesis."
Excuse me, your arch-what now?
"Let go of Master." Stellar's hair was yanked from behind as Sophie appeared, covered in dust and scratches. She grabbed me by the back of my hoodie as she kicked Stellar to the ground.
"Are you okay, Master?" Sophie asked, holding me in a princess carry as she started to fly away.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied. "Thanks for the save as always, Sophie."
Hopefully Mother Wasp is alright. We'll have to meet back up with her-
"Not THIS time!" I heard a yell before suddenly everything went sideways. Stellar slammed into Sophie and I, sending us flying into the side of a building. My head smashed through the window and my vision went dark.
I gasped, opening my eyes to see the mirror of my apartment in front of me. I looked all around, seeing I was back in that old bathroom. What was I doing here? Wasn't I just hurtling through the air?
What?
"Your time is running out." A voice spoke.
I turned, looking into the mirror at myself. I stared at my red eyes, my blond hair, the face that I could never forget. And the version of me in the mirror spoke, even when my mouth didn't move.
"You can't keep me suppressed forever." It stated once more.
"I'm not letting you out again." I growled.
"It's not your choice." It continued.
"Fuck you." I spat. "What do you want?"
"You know. Don't pretend you don't." It replied.
"This can't be real..." I grasped at my hair, pacing in place. "...I'm actually going insane."
Talking to a damn voice in my head!
"You're even less real than I am, J̶͙͆ă̴̧s̵͉͊ō̷̮n̴͕͒." The name was said with a vicious sneer. "You can run from it as much as you'd like, it changes nothing. I was the first."
"First shmirst, you're a damn bastard!" I cursed. "Why the hell would you try to kill Gabriel?!"
"I'm fulfilling his wish, unlike you." The man in the mirror spat. "You've done nothing but pray to false hope and frolic around with girls."
"What is wrong with you?! His wish wasn't for Gabriel's death!" I screamed.
"Gabriel is already dead!" The man slammed on the window. "Face it. His body may be alive, but he's been in a vegetative state for three years. He's gone. He isn't coming back. Ending him now instead of desperately clinging onto an impossible hope is mercy."
"The fuck?!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "You call that mercy?!"
"I do." It replied. "Your little girl got in the way. After her and Gabriel I was going to finish what's been started and kill that bastard Vincent."
My vision started to get blurry.
"Unfortunately, it seems you're waking up." It continued. "You've done nothing to fulfill his wish, so I'll be doing so."
"Not over my dead-" I growled.
I gasped awake, staring up at the sky. My head ached and my body was numb. There was something wet trickling down my face. I shakily brought my hands up, feeling the liquid and pulling away to crimson.
"It will be okay, Master." Sophie stated.
I was being princess carried once more. Stellar was no longer chasing us. It seemed like Sophie was able to lose her in the time of my unconsciousness.
"Sophie...you're seriously..." I slowly spoke. "...the best..."
"Thank you, Master." Sophie replied. "We are almost there, and then I will treat your wounds."
Sophie landed nearby the house, before quickly rushing in. She put me onto the couch, starting to treat my injuries.
"Is he alright?" A worried Mother Wasp spoke.
Since when was she here...?
Another figure was there too, but I couldn't properly see. My vision was going blurry once again. I can't focus. My head is killing me. I can't really feel my body.
I stared up at the ceiling as my vision waded once more. Thankfully, this time the man in the mirror wasn't waiting for me.
