"Do I...uh, do I know you?" I warily questioned, staring at the new arrival which stared back in pure shock.
"You're alive." She gasped.
"It's...not exactly as you think, Lisa." Siren interjected. "He's not Miracle."
"What? But he's right there!" The woman known as Lisa frantically pointed at me. "Sitting with-!"
She froze as she looked over everyone once more. "Is that Alexis Cromwell?! And Mother Wasp?! AND THE MAID?!"
She rapidly looked in between us and Siren as if repeatedly checking to make sure she was seeing things right. "Why are there criminals in your house, Julia?!"
"Aw, I didn't get recognized." Eleanor dramatically sighed.
"That's a good thing." Hikari rolled her eyes, flicking Eleanor on the forehead.
"Yeah, you should probably sit down." Siren lead Lisa to the kitchen table, sitting her down. "I have a little bit to explain."
"Am I going crazy? Everyone is acting as if this is normal..." Lisa muttered as she stared at all of us.
You'll get used to it.
"That Jason over there isn't Miracle. He's his clone." Siren stated, dropping a metaphorical bomb on the freaking-out woman.
"...what?" Lisa questioned in disbelief.
"Who is also named Jason." Siren added.
"Hey, what's up." I greeted with a wave.
"Why?!" Lisa exclaimed.
"He wasn't good at making names." I shrugged.
"Just like my daughter..." She sighed, before suddenly gasping. "My daughter! She's missing!" She shot upright, slamming her hands on the table.
"I saw on the television." Siren softly spoke, walking over and hugging Lisa. "It'll be okay Lisa. Your daughter is strong."
You saw it on the television...?
Oh shit!
Stellar's mom?!
Well, I guess that explains how she knows me. Sort of.
"I'm worried sick. She hasn't done this before." Lisa spoke. "And I can't help thinking about how Miracle still hasn't been found..."
Nor will he ever.
I felt my fists tighten. Was it because we knocked her out? Did someone arrive there before she woke up and then kidnapped her?
Will what happened to Miracle happen to her?
No.
I refuse to allow that to happen.
I will not be the death of another hero. Let alone the very one that Miracle told me Gabriel looked up so highly to.
"It's going to be okay, Lisa." Siren reassured her. "We'll-"
Before she could finish speaking a knock suddenly rang out on the door. We all turned towards the door in silence.
"I wasn't expecting anyone..." Siren muttered.
"Well, at least this person didn't barge in-" As soon as I spoke those words a fist slammed straight through the door as if it was as strong as a piece of paper.
Me and my big mouth-
"Jason..." Stellar's voice came from the door as her fist retracted. Her eye looked through the hole she made, analyzing the room as best as she could.
Fuck.
In one swift move she grabbed the hole and used it to rip the door off its hinges. She tossed it aside, walking into the room. She was no longer wearing her superhero suit, instead wearing a simple shirt and jeans.
"Sarah!" Lisa gasped. She took a step towards her daughter only for Siren to grab her by the wrist and hold her back.
Lisa looked back towards Siren in a mixture of confusion and betrayal, not understanding why she was being held back from embracing her own daughter.
"Hey Sarah..." I hopped over the couch while the others quickly got up to attention. "...please, just give me a moment to explain."
She stared hard at my face, before taking a step forwards. Her fists were clenched tightly and I had a good feeling she still wasn't in the mood for listening.
Siren immediately opened her mouth, her beautiful voice singing a lovely medley that washed over everyone. Immediately I could feel a small tug of tiredness in the back of my mind, which should've been much worse for Stellar.
But she stood there, uncaring. Unphased.
And that's when I realized she was wearing earplugs. Double fuck-
Everything immediately escalated as Sophie appeared in front of me. Her fist morphed into a gauntlet as she threw a punch towards Stellar only for it to be effortlessly stopped.
Eleanor appeared behind Stellar, the tip of her umbrella against Stellar's throat. "Get those damn earbuds!" Eleanor hissed.
As Sophie reached for her earbuds Stellar leaned her head forwards, the umbrella pressing into her neck. She then thrusted her head backwards, slamming it into Eleanor's and sending the assassin tumbling with a growl.
Sophie took this moment to send a devastating hit to Stellar's face. Stellar's face was sent to the side, but that was about it. She gripped Sophie by the neck before the robot could land another hit.
Stellar chokehold slammed Sophie onto the table, breaking it in half as sending Sophie crashing against the ground. She quickly recovered, springing herself forwards and kicking Stellar as the superhero blocked the attack.
"What is happening?" Lisa's eyes darted between everyone, looking as if she was losing her sanity.
The buzzing of bees started to emanate from outside as multiple bees started to fly into the room. Stellar noticed them, quickly adjusting her course.
She went from striking Sophie to juking her out and passing her, instead coming straight towards ME-?!
She slammed into me, arms wrapping around my waist as if she was tackling me. She blasted off into the sky and through the roof, which by the way, hurt!
"God damn it!" I reached for her earbuds from my awkward position. After a short struggle I successfully grabbed them and threw them away.
And then I was suddenly thrown onto the ground. Or better said, a nearby roof. I groaned as I stood up, facing Stellar who blankly stared at me.
"Could we, uh, stop with the kidnapping?" I nervously chuckled.
"Do you hate me, Jason?" She questioned, staring deeply into my eyes. "You were my best friend. My sparring partner. My rival. My first crush."
"And then you left me!" She growled. "I thought you were dead! And here I find you a year later, playing with a bunch of other girls."
"No matter what you do you're always on my mind!" She screamed, grabbing at her hair. "Whether it's as Miracle or Checkmate! You're driving me insane!"
She started to chuckle, before breaking into full blown laughter as she held her head in her hands. Tears dripped from her face as she broke down in a psychotic laughing fit.
God I hope this isn't a mistake.
I slowly approached her, wrapping my arms around her and slowly rubbing her back. She shuddered for a moment, but stayed within my grip.
"I'm sorry." I whispered. "I'm not the Jason you know. I'm not Miracle. I'm his clone. Genetically engineered from him."
"Miracle is dead. He was experimented on when he disappeared, and that experiment birthed me." I stated. "I'm sorry. I'm not him."
Her hands gripped at my collar as she turned her head upwards and glared at me. "You expect me to believe that-!"
And then she paused as she stared into my eyes. She continued to look into my eyes, an unreadable expression on her face as I inwardly prayed and crossed my fingers.
"Your eyes...they're red." She realized.
"Not colored contacts!" I added in.
She stared at me in shock, pushing me away. Clutching at her head, it looked almost as if she was writhing in pain as she twisted and turned, muttering something under her breath.
"Jason!" A voice cried out from somewhere down below.
Sophie landed inbetween Stellar and I, thrusting her hand out in a protective gesture. Everyone else was quickly approaching the base of the building, looking up at us from below. Eleanor and Hikari started to scale the side of the building at quite the impressive speed.
"Stay behind me, Master." Sophie ordered.
Stellar gave me one last look, one of sadness and betrayal. And then she shot into the sky, disappearing in a matter of seconds.
Well fuck, I ruined a superhero.
"Are you okay, Master?" Sophie turned towards me.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied, rubbing the back of my neck.
Physically at least.
I'm having a lot of mixed feelings about what's going on at the moment. I never expected to have to reveal myself as a clone two to three times in a few days.
But that's not the problem. The problem is the hurt on Stellar's face.
Gabriel's favorite superhero.
Miracle's favorite superhero.
"My favorite superhero?" Miracle looked at me with a grin. "Well, I like all of them. But my absolute favorite would be...Stellar."
"...Stellar?" I wondered.
"Yep!" Miracle grinned. "She's a huge inspiration for me. Not only is she about my age, but she's suuuuuper strong."
"And..." A sad, reminiscent smile appeared on his face. "...before Gabriel's accident, he was involved in another incident. But it was Stellar who saved him, despite only being new to the job."
"Ever since then Gabriel has admired Stellar." Miracle continued. "She's his favorite hero. And after Gabriel's accident when I became a hero, I finally met her."
"And she was as amazing as she seemed." A grin grew on his face. "So she's my favorite hero too. Oh, but you probably didn't want all that sappy crap, did you? You probably just wanted to hear her powers."
Miracle laughed to himself. Frankly, I didn't care what he told me. I just liked listening to him.
I still remember that decision I made oh so long ago now, back on that day I met Sophie for the first time.
The building seemed to finally settle, but at the end of it now was a half-buried Stellar, still determined to fight.
She grit her teeth, trying to crawl only to be stuck from the rubble. She looked at us, her eyes flickering as she fought her exhaustion, only for her head to drop.
"She is vulnerable, Master." Sophie stated. "I can take care of her."
Sophie took a step forwards, only for me to extend an arm and stop her. She turned towards me, tilting her head with an expressionless look once again.
"Get her out from under the rubble." I ordered.
I'm no saint. I'm no Miracle.
But I did that for him and Gabriel. Because how could I possibly face them if I caused the death of their favorite hero?
How could I possibly face Gabriel when he wakes up? And that's hoping he does wake up.
And as much as I would like to face Miracle, I know I won't get the chance. Upon his death he went to where all the good boys go. I know I'll be going the opposite way.
Even more so now, because of me...
Stellar gave me one last look, one of sadness and betrayal.
...fuck.
