Arshia heard Draupadi scream in pain. The cry for pain cursed Arshia's ears as tears started forming in her eyes. She looked down and let her tears fall. She couldn't handle Draupadi's scream for pain.
"Only if you could have agreed with me"
.
Draupadi fell on the ground, screaming in pain. Dussahan removed his hair for his face and when he was about to grab onto Draupadi again,Karna stopped him.
"Dussahan! You were asked to call her not to drag her to the court!" Karna stood up and yelled. "She wasn't agreeing and this was the best option!" Dussahan replied back. "Mitr, sit do—"
"No Duryodhana! You have made her a dasi! You cannot drag her to the court in this manner! This is Adharm!" Karna made Duryodhana stop talking. Never had Duryodhana seen such rage in Karna's eyes. Karna walked up to Dussahan and ordered him to back away. When Dussahan looked at Duryodhana,he was disappointed that even he was nodding.
Draupadi stood up and looked at everyone in the court with shame and rage.
"Devi, please just go to the co—" Karna stopped when he realised what she was wearing. She wasn't adorned in royal attire, she was wearing the attire worn by women during menstruation. "It's your.." Karna removed his gaze from her and looked at his feet.
"Yes" Draupadi whispered.
"Devi,I am afraid I cannot do anything. Please just climb down and stand beside your husbands,or else Dussahan would harass you once again" Karna whispered, making way for Draupadi to pass by.
A disappointed expression crossed across Draupadi's face but she was a tiny bit glad that he atleast tried to protect her. She reached the end of the stairs and stared up at the court with tears clear in her eyes. She was bruised, from both inside and out.
"You did this?" Draupadi whispered. Yudhishthir knew she indicated at him and just bowed his head in shame.
"You lost everyone? You lost my husbands and you lost my Arshia?" Draupadi's whispers were starting to sound deadly.
"That woman supported you through everything! She supported you, knowing her husband was on the opposite side! And this is how you repay her?! I gave up my pride for you five and this is how you repay me?!" Draupadi screamed at her husbands.
"Quite down, dasi Draupadi." Duryodhana interupted. "Dasi?!How am I a dasi!I am a fire born!A woman who the gods themselves created! How can I be a dasi!" Draupadi rebuted. "Credits to your husbands deeds" Duryodhana sarcastically replied.
"Duryodhana, stop calling her a dasi" Karna said. "Bharta!Tie Angraj Karna and make him sit beside the Pandavas!" Dussahan glared at Karna. "Shut up, Dussahan. Mitr, why are you acting like this?"
"Maybe because she is my sister-in-law" Karna thought.
"She is a woman Duryodhana, she deserves respect"
"She is a dasi!" Dussahan interupted. "Bharta, tie him up! It's either him or me!" Dussahan warned. "Have you gone nuts, Dussahan!" Duryodhana screamed at him.
Karna extended his hands.
"Tie me." Duryodhana shook his head at Karna. "He is throwing childish tantrums, that's all"
"No,tie me up. I am against insulting women" Karna glared at Dusshasan. Duryodhana's eyes darkened at Karna's words as anger built for him in Duryodhana. "Tie him" His voice deepened.
Karna watched the servents tie him as he stood beside Pandavas,as ordered by the king.
"Bharta, let me go get Arshia. She was babbling too much and had the audacity to hurt me" He showed him his nasty cut.
"Don't you dare drag Arshia he—"
"Go,drag her by her hair and punish her. When we were asking nicely, she didn't make the effort to come here. Might as well by force. Go Dusshasan"
"Stop Dusshasan! You are making a huge mistake!" Karna screamed. "What will you do?! Attack?Your hands are tied!" Dusshasan smirked.
"I tell you this, Dusshasan! If Arshia gets humiliated in this very court, her rage and fire will burn you!You have already insulted the princess of Kampilya, you are in the verge of burning! Do not make such a wrong move!" Karna warned.
"A dasi? Burning me?" Dusshasan laughed. "Do not call her a dasi!" Karna defended.
"You told me you won't hurt Arshia!" Karna moved his gaze at Duryodhana and glared at him. "You are siding with the Pandavas,Karna!Your punishment will be given to Arshia" Duryodhana replied back.
Before Karna could defend Arshia and stop Dusshasan, Duryodhana turned to Bhishma and said
"Pitamah!Ask Angraj Karna to quiet down! Arshia is a mere dasi now"
Bhishma let his tears fall and stayed quiet. On the harsh orders of the king, Bhishma asked Karna to quite down. Karna stared at the court in disgust and took steps back. He watched Dusshasan smirk and walk out of the court to get Arshia.
"I am so sorry Arshia" Karna whispered to himself as tears fell from his eyes.
.
Arhsia had given up and she slumed to the ground. She felt weak and vurnarable. Her shawl didn't cover her,so her bare arms had multiple scratches indicating her failed attempts to escape.
The servents entered and walked to Arshia, who didn't even try to look up at them. They started to untie her and the only thing going on in her mind was that
"Did Dusshasan already snatch Draupadi's saree?"
"Look up dasi!" Dusshasan's voice made her look up. The minute she was released from the chains, Dusshasan grabbed onto her hair, making sure she doesn't stand up and attack him.
"Ahhh" Arshia screamed, grabbing her hair. "You attacked me,eh?Wrong move, let me tell you. Even Angraj Karna can't do anything for you. You are hopeless" He laughed crazily. Arshia couldn't understand half of his words, most of them drowned because of the pain she was experiencing.
"Watch me destroy you infront of every one in the court"
.
The scream of pain was heard from miles away and Karna was growing restless. Why did he quiet down when he was asked to?
"You can't side with the Pandavas,Mitr Karna. You have committed a crime and you shall get punished for it" Duryodhana said like a demon. Karna looked at his feet, helpless. What was this friendship?
The screams were very audible now. The flower vase, which was on the verge of falling, fell after being hit by Arshia's body.
"Arshia!" Both Karna and Draupadi screamed. Dusshasan didn't even let Arshia look up at them as he grabbed her neck and hair and dragged her down the stairs.
"Stop it!!" Her scream earned her pity and sadness from everyone. Bhishma,Vidur, Dronacharya,Karna, the other ministers and Draupadi burst out crying.
"Dusshasan!Stop! Please! Please don't do this to Arshia!" Karna screamed but all of it went to vain. Dusshasan ignored the man and kept on dragging him.
Arshia felt the roughness of the stairs that hit her when she was dragged down. She wanted it to end but it never did. She could hardly see anyone, the pain was blurring her vision. But what she did see was Draupadi standing beside the kneeled-down Pandavas and Karna's hands tied up. Seeing her treated in this manner, the Pandavas stood up in anger.
A small smile made up her face when she predicted that Karna might have stood up for Draupadi while she was being humiliated. But the smile didn't remain on her face when she felt Dusshasan throwing her to the ground. She lifted her self with the support of her arms but was yet again dragged by Dussahan. He grabbed onto her shoulder and hair. The screams didn't die down and minute by minute kept on increasing.
Dusshasan threw her to the middle of the court which only had the thing which held up the dice board. When Arshia looked at her left, she saw it lying far away. Must have been Draupadi, thought Arshia.
"Stop it Dusshasan! You will get cursed by the gods above if you even try to touch Arshia!" Karna walked forward and warned. "Silence, Angraj Karna! You don't get to protect a mere dasi—"
"She is my wife, Idiot Dusshasan!" Karna yelled, his tears not stopping. He moved his gaze at Arshia, who laid in the middle of the court. Her hair was set losse and her saree was a mess.
"Back down,Radheya Karna" Duryodhana gestured. Karna shook his head and walked forward. 10-20 brothers of Duryodhana held Karna back, struggling to hold him back that is. His strength was unmatched to 20 of their strengths added up. A huge pile of the Kauravas stood behind Karna, holding him back.
"They say when one's arrogance and pride is ripped off,it is showcased on their face. Show me her face, Dusshasan!" Duryodhana raged in anger. When Dussahan was about to grab on to her hair once again, she put up her hands and stopped him. She gazed up,her eyes red with tears. The first person she saw was the king of Hastinapur, clutching his throne.
She stood up and circled on her place. When she turned to look at Dusshasan,he smirked at her. She took a few steps back resulting her to bump into the stand which held the dice game board. The 100 Kauravas laughed at her clumsy-ness.
She grabbed the stand and threw it at Shakuni, the cemented stand breaking and it lied infront of Shakuni's feet. Everyone suddenly stopped laughing and looked at their uncle Shakuni in concern.
"Know your limits dasi!" Duryodhana warned.
"Wasn't Draupadi's rage enough that you too dragged me into his poisonous court!" Arshia screamed at him. "I said, know your limi—"
"Silence!" Arshia screamed, taking Duryodhana aback. He felt his heart beat faster as he gulped down the lump of saliva that had formed due to fear. Dussahan stepped back.
"Not a word!I will be the only one speaking here" Arshia said deadly.
She turned to the king and started
"This is your court, Maharaj!
This is your court!!This court is filled with poison! This court reeks adharm!" Dhritarashtra was taken aback and when he was about to utter words, she started.
"Wasn't it clear to you when I said I will be the only one speaking!" Dhritarashtra uncomfortably shifted on his seat. Arshia's waist long hair was left open and her churamani was barely hanging on. Her saree was loose and she looked like a mess.
"This is how you treat a king who has flourished one of your kingdoms and has won so many kingdoms for Hastinapur?! Wasn't Anga one of your most trusted ally, how can Anga's King be treated like this?!" Arshia still faced the king but was gesturing at Karna, who had just stopped struggling after hearing her words.
With Duryodhana's order, his brothers backed away but not much so that they could hold back Karna if he tried to go to his wife.
"Arshia—"
Arshia turned to Karna and shook her head, indicating him to stay where he was. When he tried to gesture at her,Arshia looked at him with a soft emotion in her eyes and that held Karna back.
Arshia turned her gaze at the five brothers.
"This is what you five have done. This is all your fault!" Arshia screamed at them. Nakul burst out crying and stepped forward. He went on his knees and shook his head. "I am sorry Arshia,I am sorry I let this happen. I am sorry for all this. Please, please forgive us"
A watery and sad smile broke out on Arshia's face.
"Forgive the five of you?I rather walk through fire than forgive the five of you! This isn't because of me,this is because of Draupadi!I gave you my consent but why wasn't she asked? Before she belonged to the five of you,she belongs to herself! She isn't an object!
She isn't the object that Indra-putra Arjun defined her as when he first got her!"
"This is what I get, don't I?I went against my better-half,the person who I married,to support you five for the sake of Dharm! This is your dharm? This is your dharm?!!When I am asking a question I am expected to be answered, PanduPutro!" Arshia yelled, forcing Yudhishthir to speak up.
"We didn't know Duryodhana would go to such an extent" Yudhishthir said in a tone which was barely above a whisper. "Then what do you know?!Sit ideally and let your brothers act sheild for you? Isn't that the only activity you are good at?" Yudhishthir bowed his head.
"Get up PanduPutra Nakul. Go stand beside your brothers quietly like you did when I was dragged here like an animal" Arshia said harshly. Nakul stood up and joined his hands at Arshia, making his way beside Sahadev.
"Dusshasan!Bring Draupadi to me! Don't listen to this dasi's words!" Dusshasan nodded at him and went across the six to grab Draupadi. "One more step and you will burn in hell, Dussahan!" Arshia turned her gaze at Dusshasan. They knew they weren't viewing at Arshia, they were viewing at a volcano that,if erupted, will destroy them and the world would forget that they even existed.
She walked to Draupadi and grabbed her hands. She glared at Dusshasan and took Draupadi to the centre of the court.
"What is happening here your Highness!" Draupadi started. "The activities that your sons are doing at the moment is bringing shame to you name!"
"A dasi must accept her master's orders" Dhritarashtra said in a shaky tone. Draupadi looked at Dhritarashtra unbelievably.
"Maid?!I am a maid?! How! I came here as Laxmi and now I being dragged like this to the court!" Draupadi raged. "Arshia is the queen of your most trusted ally! How can you let her get insulted! How can Duryodhana let Arhsia get insulted, even after knowing she is his best friend's wife!!"
"My question is still not answered by Aryaputra Yudhishthir! If he had lost himself in the game, how could he bet the both of us?! He had no rights on both of us!" Draupadi screamed.
Draupadi broke down and asked
"I will ask this to the whole court! What is this nonsense?!What is this adharm!" Draupadi stepped back and asked. "Why are you asking the court dasi! Ask that to your Aryaputra!Das Yudhishthir, answer her!" Duryodhana ordered.
"Answer me Arya!Did you use the same right that your used on your brothers while betting me and Arshia?!" Draupadi asked. Arshia diverted her mind from that answer and looked at Shakuni, who was smirking at the scene that was unfolding before his eyes. A sense of anger rushed through her as a knife slowly started to appear in her hands. She shook off the feeling and saw Draupadi turning to Vidur and asking him questions.
"When Arya Yudhishthir put all his property on stake,I had right over it too!"
"I trusted my husbands! Was that a crime?Answer me Pandavas!" Draupadi screamed. "Did all of you give Arya Yudhishthir permission to stake me?!Did you all make me a dasi!"
"For your family,I turned my life into penance! Why am I getting such a disgusting reward?!" Draupadi screamed.
"Why was Angraj Karna the only one who stood up when I was dragged to the court?!Why didn't you stand up for me? Because you are the servents of these disgusting men?!" She continued.
"Don't stay silent! Answer me!!"
Arjun joined his hands and said "Arshia, Panchali. We had to give in. Even if he asked us,we had to follow him that is our dharm. Bharta Yudhishthir had to obey Duryodhana,so he had no other choice"
"So you followed you dharm, your eldest brother wasn't adharmi either. Everyone followed the path of their dharm. So does dharm dishonour a woman?!Does dharm allow you men to exploit women?!" Arshia raged looking at the men present in the court.
"What was our fault that we were dragged like this to the court. Everyone thought about their dharm but no one thought about Panchali and Arshia's dharm, Panchali and Arshia's rights, Panchali and Arshia's respect and Panchali and Arshia's emotions. No one did" Draupadi and Arshia's faces where stained with tears as they looked at each other with pain.
"No,no one did because your husbands aren't man enough!" Duryodhana mocked. "Speak carefully, Duryodhana. You are talking about the only man who had your back through all your adharms" Arshia flickered her gaze at Duryodhana.
"I am talking to Panchali,Arshia" Duryodhana gritted his teeth. Turning his gaze at Draupadi and continued "Why are relying on that Dharm!" He laughed.
"Come, establish a relationship with me!" Duryodhana laughed and was followed by his brothers. "It will give me happiness and give you protection"
"Come dasi Draupadi, come sit on my thigh!"
"Duryodhana!" Bheem and Karna screamed. Both of them looked at each other and Bheem arrogantly turned away. "Duryodhana, don't commit such a mistake" Karna shook his head while he (Duryodhana) looked at him blankly.
"I will give you such a death that the world will tremble!I will break your this thigh and kill you! It's a promise!" Bheem raged.
"Maharaj Dhritarashtra!Do you realise what your son is uttering?!Or have you gone deaf!" Arshia turned to the king.
"And until I bury you all in mud,I shall eat with mud in my food!" Arjun promised in rage.
"Don't speak nonsense! Come, dasi Draupadi and accept my orders!"
"You cannot make me your slave because I don't accept this!" Draupadi raged.
"Maharaj Dhritarashtra! What is going on in this court? What is this adharm?Do you even realise what is going on?!Have you lost your hearing like you have lost your eyesight?!" Arshia raged. "Dasi Arshia!" Dusshasan warned. "Silence! Not a single word!" Arshia turned to Dusshasan.
"This is my Dharm! You all have to tolerate it" Arshia said turning to Vidur. "You were skeptical about all this, weren't you? Then why did you go and invite them here! Are you not the Mahamantri!are you just there to blindly follow the king's advise?!"
Arshia eyes Bhishma and said
"You know what's your problem, you are devoted to a person who has devoted himself to Adharm!"
Arhsia uttered. Everyone stared at her in shock, except Draupadi that is.
"Mind you words Arshia!" Dronacharya stood up. "Where were you when Draupadi was dragged to the court?!Where was this voice of yours! You don't have to speak up for me,I am a nobody to you,but she is like your daughter! How can you let this happen to her?!"
Dronacharya lost his voice and sat back on his throne, devastated. "Careful of the way you speak to my father, Arshia!" Ashwatthama warned. "I don't take orders PanchalRaj. I hope I don't have to repeat myself again, this is my Dharm and you all have to bare with it!"
"What dharm if it's insulting someone?" Shakuni questioned. "You all followed your dharm and watched us get insulted, you shall watch the same!"
When Shakuni was about to continue she pointed at Shakuni and shook her head.
"You don't get to speak"
Shakuni leaned back on his seat and mockingly shrugged at her.
"Me and Draupadi will not be accepting any orders because the last time I checked,we were queens not mere maids!"
Arshia looked at Draupadi and gestured her to walked away.
Both of them climbed down the stairs as Duryodhana complained to the king.
"Drupad Kanya and Arshia, stay were you are and accept your masters orders!" The both turned a blind eye to his order and continued walking.
"Let them leave, your highness. You have ignored so much, ignore this as well" Bhishma joined his hands and cried.
"Wasn't it proved that Draupadi and Arshia belonged to Duryodhana?" Dhritarashtra asked.
"Yes Maharaj,but—"
"There is no question then!"
"You are committing a crime, Maharaj! They are women! They should be treated with respect! Not insulted like this! Even dasis are respected more!" Karna yelled out, taking a few steps forward.
"She is my wife, Angrani Arshia! The face of Dharm! And she is Drupad Kanya, Panchali who came here as the KulVadu, how can you treat them like this?" Karna explained. Dhritarashtra scoffed at him and stopped him.
"They belong to Duryodhana and he gets to choose what he does with them. Dasi Draupadi and Dais Arshia, stop this moment!"
Dhritarashtra stopped.
Arshia and Draupadi paused at their places. Dhritarashtra started to speak about the incident from Ramayana when Shree Ram had ordered Maa Sita to go through Agni Pariksha after hearing the words of a mere dhobi.
"Dasi Draupadi and Dasi Arshia must agree to the words of their master Duryodhana"
The two women looked at each other and turned around.
"Independence lies within oneself, Duryodhana! It's not a cloth that one can snatch away"
Duryodhana beat his chest and said "Independence cannot be snatched but clothes can be a snatched"
"Dussahan, the way she took our weapons in the Indraprastha court, the same way disrobe her!"
"Duryodhana!I have warned you so many times! Don't do this! The Gods above will curse you!" Karna yelled. "Why do you care so much Karna?! Wasn't my respect and love for you enough that you had to go to the Pandavas!" Duryodhana questioned. "I am not siding the Pandavas, Duryodhana!I am siding a woman who is about to face the biggest insult in her life!"
"Stop."
Karna and Duryodhana turned their attention on Arshia.
"It's already wrong for men to even glance at a mensturating woman, leave alone the thought of scatching her clothes away"
"I shall receive the punishment in place of Draupadi jiji"
. . .
Thank you! (Again,I am extremely sorry that I can't communicate! There's a reason for it,I am sorry again.)
