Chapter 15

The monster Vorith the Devourer is on the east side of the forest.
Can I borrow your horse?โ I asked the nearest knight, my voice firm yet urgent. He flinched at the sudden request, his eyes wide with surprise, but he quickly nodded in agreement, his hesitation fleeting.
Without wasting a moment, I vaulted onto the horse, my movements swift and decisive. โWhat do you think youโre doing, my lady?โ Crown Prince Lumine demanded, his voice cold and authoritative. His brow furrowed, and a frown creased his usually composed face, clearly displeased with my rash behavior.
โI know where the monster is. Follow me,โ I replied, my tone unwavering as I avoided his piercing gaze. I could sense the doubt in his eyes, the way he scrutinized me as if trying to uncover some hidden truth. But I didnโt have time to convince him. If he didnโt follow, Iโd be risking my life aloneโand the odds of surviving that were slim.
โYou all felt that enormous power, right?โ I asked, sweeping my gaze over the group. They exchanged uneasy glances before nodding in reluctant agreement. โThen follow me.โ Their hesitation was palpable, and I couldnโt help but roll my eyes in frustration. If they didnโt believe me, so be itโIโd face this danger alone if I had to. My life was on the line, and I couldnโt afford to waste time.
With a swift motion, I urged the horse forward, galloping toward the eastern side of the forest. The path was clear of obstacles, only the skeletal remains of dead trees lining our way. The eerie silence hung in the air, a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing within me. No signs of lifeโonly us, racing toward an uncertain fate.
I glanced back briefly, relieved to see the others following closely behind. I quickly refocused my attention ahead. Meters away, the monster loomed into viewโexactly as the system had described.
โSystem, show me the data on Vorith the Devourer again,โ I whispered, bringing the horse to a halt as I dismounted.

Identifying the information about the monster Vorith the Devourer. Data analyzing...
A loading screen appeared before my eyes as I steadied myself on the ground. I noticed the others had also stopped, their expressions a mix of apprehension and curiosity.
Vorith the Devourer, character analysis:
Vorith the Devourer is a massive, nightmarish creature, standing at least twenty feet tall. Its body is a twisted mix of muscles covered in dark, greenish scales. Sharp spikes stick out from its back and shoulders, dripping a corrosive liquid. Its long arms end in razor-sharp claws that can cut through stone and steel.
Vorithโs head is its most terrifying feature. It has a mouth full of serrated teeth that can crush bones in one bite. Its eyes glow red, piercing the soul of anyone who looks at it. Its breath is a toxic fog that wilts plants and blisters skin on contact.
Vorith is surprisingly fast and agile for its size, making it a tough opponent in battle. It emits a low growl that shakes the ground, instilling fear in even the bravest warriors.
Weaknesses:
Eyes: Vorithโs eyes are vulnerable. Blinding it, even temporarily, can give you an advantage.
Underbelly: The scales on its underbelly are thinner and less protective.
Corrosive Spikes: The spikes on its back can be used against it if you break them off and throw them back at Vorith.
This is it. The monster towered above us, so enormous that I had to crane my neck just to take it all in. The strain was immediate, but I couldnโt afford to be distractedโnot when I needed to hide.
โWhat is that?โ Crown Prince Lumine murmured, his voice filled with awe as he stared up at the beast. โIโve never seen anything like it before.โ
He turned to me, his gaze sharp and questioning. โWhatโs your plan, my lady?โ
โWe need to defeat it,โ I replied, my eyes narrowing as I focused on its belly. Thatโs the source. โCan you take a closer look at its belly?โ I urged.
The Crown Princeโs eyes widened as he saw what I hadโmonsters, swarming and spilling out from its belly in droves. The system hadnโt mentioned this, but there it was, happening right before our eyes.
โMy lady,โ Sebastian whispered as he crouched beside me, his voice barely audible. โI know a way to bring this beast down.โ
I turned to him, my curiosity piqued. โGo on.โ
โWe need to blind it first, then strike at its belly,โ he explained, his tone serious. โThatโs where itโs most vulnerable.โ Yes, I already knows that.
โBut how do we deal with the endless wave of monsters?โ I asked, my mind racing. The sheer number of them was overwhelming.
โTheyโre just drudge-ranked monsters, my lady,โ Sebastian replied, his voice steady. โOur knights can handle them.โ
My brow furrowed at his confidence, but I couldnโt dismiss the possibility. Even so, the sheer number of monsters could easily overwhelm us.
โAre you doubting the knights of the Imperial and Ducal Palaces, my lady?โ Crown Prince Lumineโs voice was cold, his pride stung by my hesitation. He looked at me with a hint of reproach, as if my doubt was a personal insult.
I exhaled slowly, pushing my frustration aside. โMy apologies, Your Highness,โ I said, inclining my head in respect.
He accepted my apology with a nod, and we quickly gathered the knights, outlining our strategy in hushed tones. The Crown Prince took charge, his demeanor focused and authoritative.
โWe need to catch monsterโs attention and prevent it from producing more monsters,โ he began, drawing lines in the dirt to map out our approach. โWeโll separate the monsters from each other, attacking them in smaller groups to make them easier to defeat.โ
He looked up at the gathered knights and continued, โLady Cecelia and Lady Athena, youโll lead the charge against the swarming monsters with your knights. We need to thin their numbers as much as possible.โ
The Crown Prince then turned to Sebastian. โYou and I will take on the main beast. Weโll go for its eyes first, then strike at its belly.โ
My heart pounded in anticipation as I waited for him to assign my role in the battle. โAnd Lady Arthemiceโฆโ He paused, his gaze locking with mine. โYou stay here.โ
I blinked in disbelief, my frustration quickly turning into anger. Stay here? What on earth was he thinking?
Crown Prince Lumine stood, unsheathing his sword with a decisive motion. His tone was final. โWe canโt afford to risk you in direct combat.โ
My hands clenched at my sides. Is he seriously trying to sideline me in this battle? But before I could protest, the Crown Prince had already turned his attention back to the plan, leaving me fuming in silence.
โLetโs go, and please, stay safe,โ Crown Prince Lumine said softly, his hand lingering on Lady Ceceliaโs cheek as if to reassure her. His voice was filled with a mixture of resolve and tenderness. I couldnโt help but frown, feeling a wave of irritation wash over me. How cheesy. And annoying.
โYou too, Your Highness,โ Lady Cecelia replied, her tone soft and sweet, as if the whole world had vanished except for the two of them. Ugh, I felt my mood sour even more. Seriously? What about me, my lady?
My thoughts spiraled into mock despair. What about me? Hindi mo ba sasabihing, โBe safe, my lady?โ I sulked dramatically, puffing out my cheeks like a child denied candy. Aaaah!
โAre you alright, my lady?โ Sebastianโs voice snapped me out of my sulking, and I glanced up to see him barely suppressing a smirk. His eyes danced with amusement, clearly enjoying my little meltdown. Huh. Isa pa โto. Sarap niyang upakan.
โYes,โ I replied shortly, rolling my eyes so hard I was surprised they didnโt get stuck. Sebastian turned away, his shoulders shaking with barely contained laughter. Tsk.
The knights, meanwhile, had already begun moving into position, their faces set with determination. Each one knew their role, and the weight of the mission ahead was clear in their resolute expressions. Their armor clinked softly as they adjusted their grips on their weapons, eyes focused, ready to face the monstrous threat.
Lady Cecelia and Lady Athena exchanged a firm nod, their earlier softness replaced with steely resolve. Lady Ceceliaโs kindness had melted into determination, while Lady Athenaโs fiery spirit burned even brighter. They moved with purpose, taking command of their respective groups of knights, who followed them without hesitation.
Crown Prince Lumineโs demeanor shifted as well, from gentle to commanding. He gave a final glance toward the approaching threat, his jaw set in grim determination. โWeโll end this here,โ he muttered to himself, before turning to Sebastian. โLetโs move, Sir Kyle.โ
Sebastian nodded, the usual mischief in his eyes replaced by a sharp focus. His expression was serious, every step purposeful as he prepared for the battle ahead. But before he joined the Crown Prince, he couldnโt resist shooting me one last teasing grin. Huh. Asar.
As they all marched off, leaving me behind, I stood there, forcing a smile as if this was exactly what I wanted. โBe safe, everyone,โ I called out, my voice dripping with exaggerated cheer.
โIโll be watching from here, as the Crown Prince ordered,โ I added, making sure to emphasize the last part while glaring at Lumine. He glanced back at me, and though he tried to keep a straight face, the corner of his mouth twitched in a barely concealed smile. Tsk. Gago talaga.
โThen, we shall go now,โ the Crown Prince commanded, his voice slicing through the tension like a blade. The knights moved out with precision, their movements synchronized, as they followed their leaders into the fray. The air was thick with determination, each step taken with a clear purpose. The two ladies led their groups with confidence, their expressions hardening as they readied themselves for battle.
Sebastian and the Crown Prince disappeared into the treeline, their figures resolute, prepared to take on the monstrous Vorith head-on. The sight of them vanishing into the forest made my irritation flare anew.
As soon as they were out of sight, I dramatically flopped onto the nearest rock, crossing my arms and pouting like a child denied dessert.
Seriously, of all the possible roles, Iโm stuck here? I imagined Lady Ceceliaโs voice in my head... โBe safe, my lady.โ But noooo, she only says it to him. I rolled my eyes at my own theatrics, but it didnโt stop me from sulking. They better make it back aliveโif only so I can give them a piece of my mind!
But deep down, I knew my sulking wouldnโt last. The battle was far from over, and so was my part in it.
โSystem, what should I do?โ I asked, my eyes drifting toward the sky, as if searching for answers from above.
Their plan will fail. They will not catch Vorith the Devourer because the system created it specifically for you.
I read the systemโs response, and my eyes rolled in exasperation. Of course, the system has a plan to kill me.
However, the other squad will succeed in their plan, wiping out all of the swarming monsters that Vorith the Devourer created.
I nodded, feeling a small sense of relief. Thatโs good enough, I suppose.
โThen, if I succeed in taking down the monster as the predicament states, will the monsters stop bothering the South?โ I asked the system, hoping for some good news.
The monsters will not be wiped out, but the war will be over.
I slumped down, disheartened. Huh. The system wonโt get rid of all the monsters because that would mean the end of the predicament, right?
โIf I complete all the predicaments, will I be able to live a normal life again, without you, the system?โ I asked, my voice tinged with desperation.
We cannot disclose that kind of information for now, dear player.
As I expected. They wouldnโt answer that question. I let out a deep sigh, feeling the weight of uncertainty press down on me.
I waited, watching the monstrous scene unfold. Vorith remained in its position, with the grotesque creatures it spawned swarming around it.
Where are the others? Havenโt they started the plan yet?
The number of monsters spewing from Vorithโs belly was increasing by the minute. But, as the system mentioned, the others would eventually wipe out the remaining monsters, so I couldnโt afford to worry too much.
After what felt like an eternity, I finally saw movement. A group of knights had gathered, ready to draw the monstersโ attention. They charged in, their weapons gleaming, and succeeded in luring the beasts away from Vorith. Lady Cecelia acted swiftly, releasing her power to create an enormous trap, effectively separating Vorith from its horde of monsters. Though a few stragglers remained, I knew that Crown Prince Lumine and Sebastian would handle them.
The air was filled with the deafening roars of the monsters, a sound that reverberated through the forest, chilling and relentless. I covered my ears, the noise grating on my nerves.
The battle began in earnest. The knights fought with unwavering determination, their swords flashing as they cut down the swarming monsters one by one. Lady Cecelia, her face a mask of concentration, directed her powers with precision, ensnaring the beasts and ensuring they couldnโt overwhelm the squad.
Sebastian and the Crown Prince leaped into action, undeterred by Vorithโs seemingly impenetrable hide. They quickly adapted their strategy, targeting the monsterโs joints and aiming for the softer areas where their attacks could do more damage. With a fierce cry, the Crown Prince delivered a powerful strike that finally pierced through Vorithโs defenses, causing the beast to roar in pain and fury.
Sebastian moved in swiftly, his blade slicing through the air with deadly precision. Together, they pressed their advantage, forcing Vorith onto the defensive. The monster staggered, its massive form teetering under the relentless assault.
I rested my chin in my hand, watching them fight with a mixture of annoyance and admiration.
How dramatically annoying.
It was as if the main characters were having the climactic battle of their lives, each move perfectly choreographed, while I was stuck here, merely an observer, as if watching a scene from a TV show.
I glanced at the time.
Remaining time 49:12:02. Good luck!
I still have two days to finish my predicament. Will that be enough?
I walked over to the carriage and retrieved the twin daggers crafted by Lady Cecelia. With a flick of my wrist, I spun them around my fingers, the blades gleaming as they twirled effortlessly. Handling these daggers felt oddly satisfyingโlike a familiar game of darts, only far more dangerous.
โMy lady!โ Sebastianโs voice pierced the air, tinged with urgency and fear. I looked up, confused, only to see him sprinting toward me as if his life depended on it. Why is he running like that? Whatโs gotten into him?
โLady Loughsin! The monster!โ Crown Prince Lumineโs shout was even more desperate, his eyes wide with alarm. Waitโdonโt tell meโ
A deep, earth-shaking thud echoed through the ground, growing louder with each passing second. My heart lurched as I turned to see the monstrous Vorith barreling straight toward me. Its massive limbs pounded the ground with terrifying force, sending shockwaves through the earth. The beastโs eyes were locked on me, glowing with a predatory hunger, its maw twisted into a snarl that promised nothing but death. It was as if the ground itself trembled beneath its weight, each step bringing it closer, faster.
ALERT! Imminent danger approaching. Immediate action required to avoid fatal consequences!
The systemโs notification flashed urgently before my eyes. My pulse quickened as dread tightened its grip on me. I know thereโs dangerโIโm trying to get away!
Protective magic has been activated. A powerful ally is en route to assist you. Stay calm and prepare for teleportation.
A powerful ally? Teleportation? Panic and confusion swirled in my mind as I glanced around, trying to make sense of what was happening.
โLady!โ Crown Prince Lumineโs voice was raw with desperation as he sprinted toward me, his face contorted with fear. Sebastian was close behind, both men pushing their bodies to the limit, their eyes fixed on me in sheer terror. The monsterโs presence was suffocating, its breath hot against my skin. I could feel its shadow looming over me, freezing my legs in place. My breath hitched as I realized just how close it was.
Teleportation in progress. Hold on tight.
Teleportation? Now? My thoughts were a jumbled mess as I felt the air around me shift.
Success! You and Vorith the Devourer have been relocated to an isolated battleground. Prepare for combat.
My eyes widened in disbelief at the systemโs cold, clinical tone. An isolated battleground? With that thing?
Crown Prince Lumine has joined the predicament. Fight bravely!
Whoโwhat?!
fin.
