Matteo didn't know how long he could keep it from Spade, it was eating at him everyday since he came back, and it wasn't just one thing he was keeping from Spade, it was two.

The thing that happened with Stefano and the letter he received which he hadn't opened yet, the same one that had the instructions that he was to read alone.

He really hated keeping secrets from Spade, but he'd been doing that lately and it all started when he met that goddamn Stefano. He sighed out as he watched Nate and Spade together

He liked what they had, never in his wildest dreams did he think he would see the day that someone would mean so much to Spade, and make him so happy.

He always thought the man would end up alone with how his life was going, but then Nate showed up and changed that and it made him more happier than ever.

Spade had always been looking out for him that the man barely had time for himself or something that made him happy asides the mafia, and now he had one.

He didn't know if he wanted that, what Spade currently had, he didn't know if he wanted it

He wasn't one of those people that would say they closed off their hearts from loving but he just hadn't found the right one yet, he doubted if there even was one for him.

When Spade first told him about his plans to ruin Greg's life, he never in his wildest dreams thought Spade would end up with his son, his daughter maybe but Nate, he didn't even think Spade liked men, he'd only ever seen him with women.

But seeing him now, he realized Spade was more happy than he'd been with any of those women.

"What's that"? Spade asked gesturing to the brown envelope with Matteo. He sighed out and looked down at it before opening it. He forgot he even came here to show Spade something.

"Well this is good news" he muttered watching as Spade's brows furrowed together "you remember the footage at the warehouse the day Lucas was killed"? He asked and Spade just nodded, placing his elbows lightly on Nate's thighs who had his legs spread apart on the table in front of Spade "I remember telling you that it was too bad I could only salvage Small unclear parts of it and it didn't really give me much, well check this out" he said before pulling two pieces of paper from the envelope and handing it to Spade.

The man took it and placed them side by side, Nate also peered into it, seeing a very unclear picture of two people leaving different building, wearing exactly same clothes Looking at it closely he realized they weren't two different but exactly the same person leaving two different buildings, and his face didn't show.

"That's the same person" he pointed out and Spade looked at him, so did Matteo He clicked his tongue

"At least one of you is quick" he muttered out and Spade just glared at him very hard, he shrugged. Spade looked at the pictures again, now realizing Nate was right And if they were the same person...

"Does this mean whoever killed Lucas was the same person seen leaving Greg's house"? He asked, this quickly caught Nate's attention as he looked at Spade sharply.

While Matteo just nodded, this didn't really put them anywhere but it was progress still, this could be their mystery man or someone close to him. "Did you just say my dad is involved in whatever this is"? Nate asked pointing to the pictures, and Spade just sighed out, forgetting he hadn't really explained much to Nate

He looked at him before he took his hand in his, hoping the young man didn't flip at this. "Nate, there's a lot going on that I want to tell you about but not here, maybe later okay" he asked, his eyes silently pleading with Nate not to burst out in anger, as much as Nate was less talky and quiet, he could also get very angry when he wanted to.

Nate looked at him for a while before he swallowed and nodded, but Spade could still see the questions in his eyes, and the way his whole mood changed from the relaxed one he has had on a evening. Spade didn't like it but he would explain to Nate as he promised.

He focused back on Matteo, his hand still holding Nate's hand, now he was drawing circles with his thumb on Nate's hand.

"...and" Matteo drawled out, sensing the tension between Spade and Nate suddenly, he didn't want to comment on it, so he isn't the only keeping secrets then. "The shooting at Liam's party, apparently Carlos found something at the police station, particularly the investigations table, they got something"

"What is it"? Spade asked as he watched Matteo now with keen interest, but his mind was still on Nate, he didn't like how he had suddenly become silent and his mood gone sullen. He wasn't even paying attention to their conversation either

"The people who shot at you guys at the party, were hired guns" Matteo started, he pulled out another picture from the envelope and dropped it on the table for Spade.

He took it and clenched his jaw when he saw who it was "Sullivan Steel, a professional hired assassin, he runs an academy for assassins" Matteo explained but he knew Slade already knew that, Sullivan was one of the people who didn't see eye to eye with Spade, so it wouldn't surprise him if Sullivan wanted him dead, or if he was paid to kill Spade

"His men did the shooting didn't they"? He asked and Matteo just nodded, he sighed out heavily At least he was getting somewhere with this crazy thing happening

He had new information that would be useful for him, unlike before. At least good news for once. He handed the pictures back to Matteo "Find out who this man is, check the police database, anything at all that could identify him" Spade muttered and Matteo nodded. "I know you have a lot going, with the whole Stefano shit" Spade saw the way Matteo's form shifted when he mentioned Stefano, he knew Matteo doesn't like that man, but his tense shoulders and face wasn't just from his lack of fondness for Stefano. "But if it's not too much problem, can you keep an eye on Sullivan, get me everything about him you can get your hands on" he asked and Matteo just nodded before he got up about to leave, he wanted to give Nate and Spade some space to clear things.

And he still had his little secret to worry about, sooner or later he'd have to tell Spade about it, even though he can't tell him about the shit that happened with Stefano, at least he should tell him about the letter he received when he was about leaving Italy.

He walked out of the office leaving Nate and Spade inside, the air was now tense, Nate pulled his hand away from Spade's hold before he hopped off the table. "Uhm.. I need to go back and get some things done" he mumbled before he tried to walk away, Spade pulled him back

"Hey, don't be like that okay" he whispered, seeing the way Nate was avoiding his eyes. "I was gonna explain everything to you eventually" he explained

Nate finally looked at him before he sighed out "What's going on with my father and whatever that was"? He asked and Spade sighed out before he tried to pull Nate to stand in front of him while he sat on the chair, but Nate refused.

"Someone's trying to kill me" he started and that definitely caught Nate's attention as he suddenly moved closer to the table, resting his back on it, he watched Spade, his eyes telling the man to keep talking. "And they've been messing with my business for a while, it started a few months ago, way before I even met you" he paused, studying Nate's expression but finding nothing "I don't know who they are or why they wanna kill me, but all I know is everyone who's had an encounter with them said they're someone close to me"

He paused again and sat down on the chair facing Nate, well mostly facing Nate's torso "Recently I found out they are somehow in corroboration with your father, he's like a middle man for them" he muttered "he either works for them or he works with them"

"How do you know all this"? Nate finally asked and Spade sighed out

"Someone they hired to kill me, told me" Spade said, and he watched as Nate's mood shifted from the slight sullen mood to a more concerned and interested one "I shouldn't be telling you this Nate, but I trust you and I know you wouldn't betray me" he sighed out after saying that.

Trust for Spade was something that he hardly ever just handed out to anyone, but he was ready to hand it to Nate. What's a relationship without trust? If he couldn't trust Nate he wouldn't be in a relationship with him, and something deep down was telling him the young man is nothing like his father

Nate sighed out shakily before he pulled himself off the table and stood directly in front of Spade "incase you haven't noticed, my father and I aren't really like conventional father and son" he let out, he didn't want to tell Spade everything just yet, but the bits and pieces he could let out, he made sure he did "If he's trying to kill you, my boyfriend, I won't stop you from doing what you have to do, but you have to promise me something" Nate muttered and Spade got up and pulled Nate flushed against him, looking down at him.

"Anything" he muttered

"That you're going to be careful, I don't think I can stand the thought of losing you" Nate whispered out, Spade was the only good thing he had in his life now, and he couldn't lose him, especially not to his father.

Spade chuckled before he pecked Nate's lips, a way to calm him down. "They call me the devil baby, I think anyone crossing me should be more careful" he muttered out and Nate just rolled his eyes at him before he kissed Spade back.

****

Matteo entered into the penthouse, he wished he didn't have to come home but he couldn't stay at the club, it was almost past 3 and he was just coming home.

Now he hated coming home because he ended up overthinking and then his head would end up hurting like a bitch.

Ever since that night of the auction it had been like this, now he wished Stefano hadn't gone with him, because then he wouldn't have to worry about what happened that night It was really weighing him down, even more than the strange letter he received.

He pulled off his jacket and dropped it on the couch, the letter was sitting pretty on his table as he stared at it. It was getting really hard to ignore it, especially since he needed a distraction from thinking about what happened the night of the auction.

He plopped down on the couch and sighed out, placing his hand on his head, he rested his face on his palm. Looking at the letter with the bold red seal on it.

He wondered what was inside and why the instructions had said he read it alone, he hoped it wasn't an offer for him to kill Spade. That was something that would never happen, ever.

His mind drifted again to the night of the auction, he didn't really remember much after Stefano gave him that shit. But he remembered bits and pieces and they weren't pleasant.

And what even made it worse was the way Stefano was acting so indifferent about the whole thing, like it didn't happen, more like he didn't care it happened.

Matteo almost groaned out. God he hated that he even took that shit from Stefano in the first place, he was such a fool. Now he couldn't even bring himself to tell Spade, how would he even explain something like that to him.

Not that Spade would be mad or angry at him, but he might be disappointed. Regardless of the fact that they'd both grown up and he was Spade's underboss, to Spade he'd always be that little Matteo he protected from their father.

He sighed out and picked up the damn letter from the table. If he was going to keep thinking about what happened the night of the auction, he might as well just distract himself from it.

He looked at it one more time before he peeled open the red seal and unfolded the letter

He started reading it, line by line. The more he read the more he got enraged, he felt his blood boil with anger, he wanted to rip the letter in shreds but he needed to get his answer first

He knew where this came from, and he knew they were only trying to turn Matteo against Spade, they must be joking if they thought an ordinary letter would shake his loyalty and trust in Spade.

He would talk to Spade about it the next morning, it was already too late to call him over something like that. He folded the letter and dropped it on the table again before he got up and headed for his bedroom. He needed sleep, and lots of it.

Hmmm 🤔🤔

What do you think is in the letter?

Well we'll find out tomorrow maddys 😁😁😁
