"I want everything to be perfect" Nate muttered out and his sister just looked at him worriedly as she finally laughed

"And it will be Nate, just relax" she said putting her hand on his shoulder "we have the rooftop booked and I checked earlier today, the place has been decorated just like you asked, and the cake is ready, even Spade's outfit has been sent, it's in the bedroom" she explained to him and he just sighed out and placed his hand on his waist

He needed everything to go as planned, he wanted the night to be a memorable night for Spade, after everything they'd been through, Spade deserved this, he even made sure it was at the restaurant they had their first date as friends.

He had been stressing about this for weeks and now the day was finally here, he even avoided Spade just so he wouldn't make a mistake and slip up, he knew Spade was worried that they'd been drifting apart, but if only the man knew what Nate had planned for him.

He even got them both matching tuxedos, everything had been pre-planned, he couldn't give any room for mistakes, hence why he had asked Matteo to stall Spade for the whole day and keep him occupied until when it was time for Spade to come get dressed and meet them at the restaurant.

Of course he didn't tell Spade that he had planned a surprise birthday party for him, he just told him that he wanted them to go on a date, since they hadn't gone on one after that night they met Salvatore on their first date as a couple.

He could still remember it like it was yesterday, the date was kind of ruined and he wanted to make up for it, hence the surprise party, and now he was fucking nervous, what if Spade doesn't like it? what if the caterer made a mistake with the cake? or what if something happens to Spade? he quickly shook his head

Positive thoughts Nate, he thought to himself, he couldn't be having such thoughts now, not when they were only hours away from the biggest thing he'd ever had to do for anyone in his life.

After everything that happened to him, he didn't think he would come out alive, but he did and it was all thanks to Spade. He had successfully taken over his father's business, and he opened a fashion store for his sister, it had always been her dream.

He was building a sibling relationship with Matteo and his relationship with Spade only grew stronger with time.

About six months ago, if someone had told him that his life would turn out this perfect, he would have actually stoned them away, because then he had the most shittiest life one could imagine.

He was constantly being abused by his father, his sister had ran away leaving him at the mercy of Spade, and he had no one on his side, but one night was all it took for it all to change, and it changed for good.

He was finally free, free from his tormentor, free from the trauma he had gone through, and free from his own self loath.

"Come on, go get dressed, Bernie and I would pick you up on our way, Matteo just texted me, he said Spade would soon be on his way, we don't want him to still meet you here" Su's voice broke him out as he snapped and nodded

"Yeah you're right" he muttered before he rushed inside the bedroom and went into the bathroom to take a quick shower and shave everything that needed shaving, he smiled at his own crude thoughts

Since the last four months that Spade had being with Nate, there had never been a time when he was doubtful about Nate's feelings for him, but right now, he didn't really know what to think.

Nate had been distant towards him for the past few weeks and as much as he tried to play it cool, it had been bothering him, although they still spent time together, it wasn't like before, he felt as though Nate had drifted away from him and he didn't know why

Whenever he asked the young man, he would deny it and say he was just busy recently, but Spade knew there was more and it didn't help that he had a secret of his own that he was hiding, he had thought at one point that Nate had found out and that was why he was freaking out, perhaps he wasn't ready yet.

"You know, the purpose of coming out for coffee is to clear your head and not to dive more into thinking" Matteo's voice broke him out of his thinking as he stared at the blonde, who had changed greatly in the past two months

He sighed out and ran a tired hand down his face "I can't get it out of my head, I feel like he's hiding something" Spade muttered and Matteo just rolled his eyes, he'd heard this conversation a million times that he was starting to get tired, thank God after today it'll finally be over, cause he didn't think he could keep lying to Spade about what Nate was doing

"Here we go again with your theory that Nate is hiding something from you" he said sarcastically and Spade just clenched his jaw.

"It's not a theory okay, I'm sure of it, do you know he hasn't wished me happy birthday all day, not that I care but he's my boyfriend, he should be the first to wish me, but he's just been very distant today in particular" Spade grunted out, he was clearly tired of it all, but he didn't know what to do "do you think he knows"? He asked and Matteo just cocked his brows at Spade.

"You think if Nate knew you would propose to him today, he'd he so chill and calm about it"? He deadpanned and Spade let out an exasperated sigh "look Spade, you're just being paranoid okay, maybe he's just really busy" Matteo tried to explain as best as he could He was the one in the middle of all this, he had to keep secrets from both of his brothers.

From Nate, he had to hide the fact that Spade had been planning to propose to him for the past two months, and would actually do it today. And from Spade, he had to hide the fact that Nate was in fact organising a surprise birthday party for Spade

Spade thought of it for a while, maybe he was overreacting and nothing was happening, but still he would propose to Nate today, he had been planning it for two months now, and this little set back wasn't going to stop him.

He had thought long and hard about this and he had never been so sure about anything in his life as he was about this, he wanted to spend the rest of his waking morning with Nate.

He loved him with his all, and he would do just about anything for the young man "Okay, maybe you're right" he sighed out "I should get home, Nate and I are having dinner at Rory's" he muttered out and Matteo just nodded

"I'll just head down to Stefano's" Matteo muttered and Spade cocked his brows at the blonde, he'd noticed the sudden closeness between the two men and he wasn't one to pry, but it was getting a little much lately.

He had a hunch but he didn't want to say it out just yet, maybe he would just sit back and watch "What"? Matteo asked and Spade just shook his head.

"Nothing, you're just awfully close to Stefano these days, I thought you couldn't stand him"? He asked and the blonde just sighed and shook his head

"That was before" he muttered before he got up, typing away on his phone "I should get going" he rushed out before he walked out of the small coffee shop that he had managed to stall Spade in long enough for Nate and the others to go over to the restaurant, now all he had to do was take a quick shower, get a change of clothes and pick Stefano up, he had a plan of his in mind, he smiled when he stepped into his car.

Nate stood at the rooftop that was beautiful decorated, he couldn't help but sigh out in relief, it was exactly as he had instructed, everything was in place and Spade had texted that he would be on his way soon.

Nate couldn't help but feel nervous, he didn't know what Spade would think of this, if he would like it. He knew even if Spade didn't like it, he would say he did so Nate wouldn't feel bad, but Nate wanted Spade to genuinely like it, not because he spent a lot of time doing it, but because it came from a place of love, and he poured out every ounce of love he had for Spade into this surprise.

Even when Matteo and Stefano had showed up, he still didn't feel relaxed, because it would only take minutes before Spade would arrive too and just like he had expected, Spade showed up.

Taking Nate's breath away completely, he couldn't help but stare in awe and admiration at the man he called his, the two piece tux was perfect on him, Nate had personally picked it himself, even with the little gold piece that was hanging from his breast pocket to his shoulders, they were matching after all so he knew everything about the tux like the back of his hand.

He saw the confused look in Spade's eyes and he kind of panicked for a second before he gathered the courage to walk up to Spade, after all the man was his boyfriend, he took careful steps towards Spade "Babe, what's all this"? He asked the young man who had a smile on his face

Nate stopped in front of him before wrapping his hands around Spade's neck and kissed him tenderly, feeling himself relax with just that one kiss.

He pulled away and peered up at Spade "Happy birthday baby" he whispered and Spade smiled

"You did all these"? Spade asked and Nate just nodded, he shut his eyes and chuckled before he wrapped his arms around Nate's waist and pulled him in for another kiss, this one longer as he took his time to worship Nate's lips, using his tongue to suck and nib on Nate's mouth.

Clearing of throat broke them both out of it as Spade pulled away, Nate led him towards the table and Matteo was the first to wish him a happy birthday, he couldn't help but chuckle, so Matteo was in on this, even Stefano, and Bernie.

After everyone else had wished him, he sat on the chair close to Nate, he looked at the young man lovingly "when did you plan all this"? He asked leaning closer to Nate and he just shrugged

"About a month" he whispered shyly and Spade just chuckled, he had been worried for nothing

"Was this the reason why you'd been avoiding me"? He asked and Nate nodded again, smiling sadly at Spade

"I'm sorry I made you feel like you weren't doing enough, I just didn't want to slip up around you that was why" he whispered and Spade shook his head before he tilted Nate's chin up with his index finger, he placed his lips tenderly on Nate's and kissed him softly, he pulled away biting Nate's lower lip

"I love you so much and I'm not mad about all of this, I love it, it's beautiful" he whispered and Nate bit his lips and batted his lashes, he couldn't believe Spade loved his surprise, and Spade couldn't believe he'd been worried for nothing, he thought Nate was giving him space because he was having second thoughts about being together, but he was wrong, Nate was actually setting up a surprise for him, and he loved it.

They all ordered food and ate while making small talks among themselves, Spade looked around and he realized he had everything he never thought he would have, he always thought he'd end up alone, with the exception of Matteo of course, but now he had family, he had friends and it made a smile spread across his face

It was now time for the cake, it was wheeled out and it was very beautiful, Spade had never been one to admire things like this, but he couldn't help but admire the cake Nate had made for him, it was exactly the same dusty brown color of Nate's eyes

"Happy birthday to you" they all started singing and he groaned out and smiled

"Seriously guys, is the whole singing thing necessary"? He asked and Stefano just shrugged

"It's tradition Spade, you have to sing before you cut the cake" Stefano had told him and he sighed out and watched them all sing to him with smiles on their faces He had never really celebrated any of his birthdays before, so this was a first for him, well not exactly because he'd celebrated as a kid, right before his father had changed and became an abusive ass

The singing had stopped and everyone was now waiting for him to cut the cake. Nate leaned closer "you have to cut the cake babe" he whispered and Spade turned to look at him, his heart beating wildly in his chest, this was the moment, no better time than now to ask Nate an important question, a question he'd been practicing for the past one month.

He swallowed as he felt his palms clammy, he'd never been as nervous as he was right now, he was literally panicking and he didn't know why, well he was scared Nate would say no, but he had to do it, he couldn't keep hiding it and running away from it

He let out a deep breath as he saw the confusion on Nate's face, slowly but surely he slowly went on one knee and he heard gasps of everyone, but the one that was important to him was the young man standing in front of him, he pulled the box out and opened it, showing Nate the diamond encrusted ring that was customized specially for him.

"Nathan Miller, the first day I saw you, something about you drew me in, and at first I thought it was my survival instinct that was telling me that you were a threat, but deep down I knew it was my heart that was telling me that you'd be the one to save me.... save me from darkness, from loneliness, from my own demons" he paused as he saw the way Nate's eyes were beginning to gloss over, he was fighting his own emotions himself "I was a man that used to feel nothing, fear, love, joy, happiness, they were strange and far fetched from me, until I met, that was when I knew the real meaning of life and love, you brought peace into my life, you brought happiness, joy and light, and for that I love you so much and I would like to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me Nathan Miller?" he finished, the tears dropping from Nate's eyes were nothing compared to the one dropping from his eyes.

After his father changed and became a monster, he'd never cried for any reason, but tonight was different, special, and if crying was what it would take to make him feel light, then he was glad that he was crying.

Nate was choking on sobs, covering his mouth as he nodded, sniffling

"Yes, yes I will marry you" Nate rushed out, Spade let out a deep sigh of relief as he slipped the ring out of the box and slid it on Nate's finger, it fit perfectly well.

He got up and wrapped his hands around the young man's waist, staring down at his lips "I love you so fucking much" he croaked out and Nate chuckled amidst his tears.

"I love you too Gio" he whispered before Spade caught his lips in a sweet and beautiful kiss
